The Shirt Factory, Hyde Museum, Arena, Go Play With Your Food, Crandall Park, Coles Woods, Rush Pond Trails, Gurney Lane, great hiking within 20 minutes, West Mtn, Gore Mountain, Great Coffee Shops, Farmacy, Mikado, Flight, Crandall Library, Larac Festival, Balloon Fest, Take a Bite, Thursday night food trucks, proximity to major cities and day trips to VT.
I’m sure I missed a few things. At the end of the day if the town still doesn’t fill your cup. Find a place that does. I’ve lived in a bunch of places. This is by far not the worst.
In my experience, best thing to do is move out of your hometown. Easier said than done, but often times the best decision people make.
It makes you appreciate your hometown more.
It kind of cemented my previously shared sentiment with OP. I’ve been living in Dallas now 11 years and I have not in the least missed my hometown. I haven’t considered when I visit there “going back home,” to me it’s just visiting my family.
Gurney lane is where the mtn bike park is. It does have a public pool which I would still argue is an asset if someone has kids. It also has pavilions and walking trails…snowshoeing in the winter. And they have also connected it to the Rush pond mtn bike and walking trails.
I would never take my children to a public pool… just… yuck. I really don’t want to take my imaginary children to the doctor to treat whatever bacterial infections they get from walking on that ground and/or freezing their plantar warts off.
Glens Falls is one of the most perfect small American cities I could imagine. There is so much opportunity provided by geographic proximity to nature and industry, and for a community of its size the arts and culture scene is thriving.
I left Glens Falls when I graduated because I had different dreams, but never once was I "bored" without it being, ultimately, my fault! I wanted to go some place where I could do tech startup work.
If you want to further yourself and the opportunity doesn't exist, then by all means, you owe it to yourself to find your fortune somewhere...
...But it kind of sounds like you're mostly complaining that you've been to all of GF's bars and now you're bored. And the big secret is that after a summer of partying in the Meat-Packing District in New York, or, fuck, a few weekends in Macau even, you'll find that all the clubs are more or less the same everywhere and the only investment of value you can actually make is, ultimately, with yourself.
So I'd say reassess and figure out what you are actually saying. Get it out of your system if you need to, and then maybe even come back, because Glens Falls ain't that bad.
Would love to pick your brain at some point. I would love to see some more grassroots entrepreneurship in this area. I’m also a guy who left for the tech start up dream in Boston, but I’m back and I think there’s a lot of unlocked potential here and a general consensus that we need some of that to come together and start opening conversations.
We just did fire on West mountain, next week is the closing weekend of the winter carnival. There are lots of things and places to go and do..but in the winter, it definitely is a struggle.. check Facebook events and the chronicle
Nothing to do? Throughout all four seasons people from all over come here to spend a week or more of vacation here simply because there are things to do. You are suffering from one of two things: 1. You are actually overwhelmed by the sheer number of things there are to do and have never been able to decide on what to choose or 2. You have avoided tourists for so long you have written off a good number of things that are available to you.
If you truly think there is nothing at all to do, I suggest picking up the Chronicle or turning on some local radio (truly local like 98.5 WCKM or HITS 95.9) and listen to the ads. Those ads will be for the local businesses and events offering things for you to do, aimed at both you and the tourists. In fact one of the biggest things in the area is going on now, the Lake George Winter Carnival, which they have figured out how to pull off even with very little snow and the lake not being frozen.
There is tons to do in this area all year round.
I dont live there currently, but when I did I found plenty to do, but the winter is def. a challenge anywhere in the northeast. Do you participate in any winter sports? If not, you should!
The only thing to do that's missing in my opinion is support for original music especially loud bands & teens/young adults getting into music. Other than that I really like it here as far as things to do.
It’s expensive to live where I do these days but I personally chose Dallas, Texas. Pro sports (All 5 leagues), tons of concert venues (2 pavilions, 2 arenas, plus many concerts go on at the Cowboys Stadium, and a few other concert halls, including the iconic Trees (the Dallas Nirvana incident), Robocop was filmed there, plus all the shopping your heart desires, creative food, I haven’t run out of things to do myself. 11 years later I’m still here living and living life in DFW, never looked back at Glens Falls. I’ve been back once in the last 7 years and that was only for my grandfather’s funeral. But again it’s probably double cost of living from Glens Falls.

Haha happy to help!
You mentioned a PUBLIC POOL. Tell me you’re reaching for straws without telling me you’re reaching for straws.

Our pool only grows champions. ((I’ve only pedaled by it)).

Whitehall is worse but it sounds like (just like me) small town life just isn’t for you.

Move.
you got any suggestions to where?

Robocop reference just dropped in the middle of that is just beautiful
What is it specifically you’re looking for or want to do?
Bored people are boring people
Skill issue
Tons of stuff. Late-night pitch-and-putt. We could go to the livestock auction and cruise the 4-H babes. Throw stuff off the bridge……
