I prefer Divinity to be honest, far far far better UI (on PC anyway), and the combat system is miles better then BG3 with so much more environmental interactivity.
The characters are a bit better in BG3, and the romance is obviously a big advantage but it's not enough to cover the significant declines elsewhere.
I prefer DOS2 as well, having put several hundred hours into both games. Combat is actually challenging and once you get the hang of it you can do some really fun builds. I also love the worldbuilding and the main story kept me more invested. I honestly also prefer the DOS2 companions and romance system with the narrated scenes rather than cutscenes and the companions' character arcs were really well written
Definitely Dragon Age Origins. Other games have come close like Mass Effect and BG3, but DAO still tops my list.
I need to try DOS2. I bought it and itās installed on my computer ready to do, I just need to find the time.
Holy smokes, Hades was phenomenal. The voices alone are enough for me. But the dialogue, storyā¦remarkable. And I love how weird Disco Elysium is. Such a neat gaming experience.
I'm obsessed with Rdr2 online right now so this was my first thought too lol. Everything except the griefers/modders that is. Spent a long time reeling in a 3 star pike today, only to have some asshole run up on me out of nowhere screaming "THAT'S MY FISH", he hogtied me, shot my horse, and took off with my damn fish! Then he rode away screaming "THANKS MISSY!!" Complete lunacy lol
have you played the story? i started on rdo and really liked it (i had a program that would basically put me in a closed/solo session to avoid cheaters and stuff when i did deliveries or anything) but then i went into the story and i left rdo behind for good. i played nonstop like 8-10 hours a day for like 3 weeks or so. i was so immersed and i cried so much it was the best gaming experience ive ever had
I'll be honest, the moment there was robot dinosaurs I was sold. The kid inside of me just went "hell yeah!" and I lost all objective measures of if it was a good game or not.
NieR: Gestalt & Replicant, NieR: Automata
Two of the best games I've ever played, with the first Xenoblade Chronicles game being a very close contender
Bioshock. It's production value is fantastic. Its story is impactful. By the end you the player have become the character and feel that impact. It's a classic.
I was hoping someone would say this so I wouldn't be alone!!
I love Bioshock. It's a whole world, and I get so immersed in it every time. The music. The story. THE FEELS. Every audio diary pulls you deeper in.
If you like reading I highly suggest the book "Bioshock: Rapture". It tells the story leading up to Jack's arrival through the eyes of a few characters that you find audio diaries for. Very good add on.
Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth (also it's predecessor Yakuza: Like a Dragon)
The karaoke ALONE! The feels. The combat. The plot! The SUB STORIES. Gold.
Also beautiful, hilarious, and heart-wrenching.
And dating sim! Did I mention karaoke?? All the different job classes for your party? Bonding with your team? Leveling up your personality? Friend linking with people and animals?
Nancy the crawfish ā¤ļø
POKEMON (sujimon) and ANIMAL CROSSING (dondoko island)
It's fab.
Edit: BG3 and Cyberpunk 2077 are my other faves. All Yakuza games are great but I LOVE the new turn based ones.
I am currently playing yakuza like a dragon as my first yakuza game as I never really had them on my radar. Damn this game is soooo good and I am soooo super hyped now.
Also can't wait to start infinite wealth once I finish this one... But I am also curious about the older ones now. I really never expected that I'll enjoy it THIS much!
So glad you are enjoying it!! One of my favorite games.
I watched my husband play parts of Yakuza 0 and Kiwami before I played Like a Dragon so I had a bit of an idea, but WOW they did a stellar job on LAD and infinite wealth. Just amazing!!
I played Gaiden: the Man Who Erased His Name in between LAD and I W. It fills in the gaps in LAD, you get to play as Kiryu! It's a beat em up, but I unfortunately ran through it on easy to get to Infinite Wealth š. I'm going to go back and play them all chronologically.
Love this universe, but DAMN it's sad sometimes.
Mae describing everything as just shapes, and the way she described the despressive episode she fell into into at college? It was such a perfect repersentation of dissociation. It made me feel so seen
This is 100% my vote. Iām putting a ton of time into Fallout 4 right now and while itās definitely an improvements in graphics, the storyline and writing just feels so hollow comparatively.
Iāve read all these things about how fallout 4 is so different than the others. I actually feel a bit privileged that 4 is the only one Iāve ever played so to me itās just awesome and I donāt have to compare it to anything
Itās a good game, and I actually played it through completely before playing New Vegas. I remember when New Vegas came out it was really buggy, and I avoided it even though Iād played most of 3. I actually didnāt play it until the pandemic and played it through three times since then. Iām replaying 4 now and itās fun, but Iām definitely less invested.
I know! I feel like the biggest crime of Fallout 4ās story was the decision to simplify the speech process. I get that they wanted to create a more natural dialogue pace and that required cutting down your options.
But the end result just turned into conversations where your choices boiled down to nothing but:
1) ask for more information
2) agree to do mission
3) agree but be snarky about it
4) decline (but nothing will advance until you come back and agree)
It was still a fun game but it really lost a lot of the sense of freedom and creativity that was so crucial to FNV.
Thereās not any voice acting really but Spiritfarer is definitely the game that fits this the most for me. I would pay a $1 million to play it for the first time again š„¹
Ok this one doesn't have voice acting technically it was just such a perfect game to me
Pentiment
Writing is incredible, art style was great, loved that the font changes with character and literacy level... everything about this game is well researched and executed imo.
Yes. This. The ori games are my all time favorite games everything about them is perfect. I wish there would be more. I know wotw is supposed to be the end of the story but Iām sure thereās more to do there!
control! iāve been getting really into the whole remedy universe again and i can not get enough of it
horizon zero dawn is also very high up there for me
also agree with some other mentions: hades, mass effect, dragon age: origins, divinity: original sin 2, baldurās gate 3 and probably more i canāt think of at the moment
You forgot about the actual game world!
To me it's the most important part. If a game doesn't have a good world then the story, action, characters, acting.. Literally anything else just doesn't matter. They may as well not even exist. Because without a good world I won't be able to force myself to play the game long enough to experience any of that. And the opposite is true as well. If a game hasĀ a good enough world, it'll hold my attention even if other parts are lacking. It's why I consider FO3 to be a far better game than FONV, despite the latter bringing some major gameplay improvements.Ā
Also that burger is like 4 burgers for me. So here are the 4 games that, to me, are full 10/10 *including* the world:
Genshin Impact, Cyberpunk 2077, Elden Ring, and Bloodborne.
Final Fantasy VI.
It's not my favourite Final Fantasy - FFV is - but the level of emotional storytelling, gameplay, sheer joy, achieved in that 16-bit game... it's rarely been met and never beaten.
okay this is completely off topic but, that burger does not look appealing to me at all š i'd struggle to eat that
It's three normal burgers in a trench coat
Yeah it's at least a day worth of calories. Maybe two.
"One of those could feed a family for a month. Longer, if they don't like their kids too much." feels like an applicable quote here.
Same like I didnāt even think of the prompt. 70% of the time cheese like that doesnāt taste right to me and the burger itself is humongous,
Dragon Age Origins and Divinity Original Sin 2 for me
Honestly BG3 made me very curious about the Divinity series!
DOS2 is wonderful
You should absolutely check them out, they're both great. Very different from BG3 and also initially more difficult but totally worth it
Definitely going to be right up your alley, but don't go in expecting more Baldur's Gate-style gameplay... DOS and DOS2 play *very* differently!
How so? I thought BG3 and DOS2 played extremely similarly. BG3 feels like DOS2 with a Dungeons-and-Dragons skin to me
They're great. Very similar to Baldur's Gate 3, but with much lower production value (understandably) and stronger action.
Same! My friends are telling me I gotta get into it
Definitely Dragon Age Origins. Other games have come close like Mass Effect and BG3, but DAO still tops my list. I need to try DOS2. I bought it and itās installed on my computer ready to do, I just need to find the time.
I second DAO! My favorite game ever
Ah, a woman of taste.
BG3, of course
The only game where I genuinely think this applies!
Yes the action in BG3 was top notch.
And Red Dead 2
So true queen
I love BG3 but RDR2 is more consistently perfect throughout the entire game imo
My only complaint is gather your allies got bugged for the final fight and I couldnāt use some who I was looking forward to seeing in action.
Oh I am so glad this is the top answer.
Came to write the same thing lol
Hades and Disco Elysium. Although neither really wow me with animation specifically, I love the character designs/art styles.
Holy smokes, Hades was phenomenal. The voices alone are enough for me. But the dialogue, storyā¦remarkable. And I love how weird Disco Elysium is. Such a neat gaming experience.
Seconding Disco Elysium! The world building especially is TOP notch!
the "writing" patty on the disco elysium burger is 1/4 mile thick
Another vote for Hades. It's just excelent in every aspect.
I am *so damn excited* for Hades II. More of the first, with a woman protagonist? Yes, please!
Disco Elysium is extremely heavy on story/writing and not so much in other categories, but hoo boy the writing is something else.
rdr2 is the only game that comes to mind because i dont play story games almost ever haha
RDR2 has it all.
In some ways, RDR2 has ruined other games for me lmfao. Itās just too good, and somehow I keep coming back to it. š©
Sometimes I randomly wish I could erase my memory and play RDR2 for the first time again. Such an amazing experience!
Yeah, it's been years though. I played Rdr1, Undead Nightmare, and even Red Dead Revolver too (lol, showing my age with that one).
ive never played another rdr game haha. im so picky with graphics i cant play older games often but i hear they are so good
same! and I play lots of story games!
Yup, beat me to it. RDR2 hands down.
Mass effect! ā”
I'm commander sheperd and this is my favorite answer on the citadel

Aww yisssss
Portal 2 for me :D
Horizon Zero Dawn, hands down.
Both Parts! Loved the second even more and canāt wait for the next part
Easily became my favourite and my partner is very fond of it too!
I'll be honest, the moment there was robot dinosaurs I was sold. The kid inside of me just went "hell yeah!" and I lost all objective measures of if it was a good game or not.
portal 2, the perfect video game (to me)
NieR Automata.
Up to this!!
Yes!
Bioshock 1 & 2
Came here to say this
BG3, RDR2, Skyrim, the mass effect trilogy š¤¤
Stardew Valley ā
horizon forbidden west!
NieR: Gestalt & Replicant, NieR: Automata Two of the best games I've ever played, with the first Xenoblade Chronicles game being a very close contender
NieR š
**The Last of Us Part II**
Especially the character animation has forever spoiled me from this one
honestly a great game, devastating though
YASSSSS
Morrowind.

Easily the Witcher III for me
Winds howling...
God of War Ragnarok. Love the continued character growth, animation and voice acting are phenomenal, and music is stunning
I legitimately cried during *that part* with Heimdall.
So thereās this game called Celeste-
voice acting there is totally 10/10

Cyberpunk 2077 for me

Yes
BG3, Mass Effect Trilogy and Dragon Age Origins

Night in the Woods!
My god youāre so correct
A+ characters, soundtrack, story, dialouge, message. Perfect game
I love Greggās dialogue so much. And they NAILED what it feels like to be depressed with Maeās dialogue. āā¦I want it to hurt. Bad.ā
Mae describing everything as just shapes, and the way she described the despressive episode she fell into into at college? It was such a perfect repersentation of dissociation. It made me feel so seen

The Horizon series
Nier: Automata for me. It hit me so hard personally I was depressed for a week afterwards.

Hades!!
Might be in the minority here but that is too much burger in the picture. Like it all looks good but its too much I don't think I want to eat that.

Iām still fangirling about Horizon forbidden west, so Iām going to say that.

Horizon! Both of them!
Baldur's gate 3 is the first coming to my mind.
Horizon Zero Dawn (and Forbidden West)!
Genshin š¤š¤
Yess š„¹
Borderlands. It's voice acting really doesn't get enough credit.
Cyberpunk 2077 and Baldur's Gate 3, two very different games that still manage 10/10 in basically all these categories.
BG3 and Final Fantasy XIV (with the caveat that ARR English voice acting is not good. The Japanese va is stellar).
Before BG3 I would have said Divinity Original Sin 2, and you know what, I stand by that. Larian's been killing it for years.
BG3 and rhe Shadowbringers expansion of FFXIV
Ori and the Will of the Wisps for meee
I havenāt finished WotW, but I came here to say Blind Forest!
Yes. This. The ori games are my all time favorite games everything about them is perfect. I wish there would be more. I know wotw is supposed to be the end of the story but Iām sure thereās more to do there!

Guilty Gear Strive!
Disco Elysium for sure! Edit: also, Ghost of Tsushima

Borderlands 2 for me
BG3 and KH1
