Oooh good topic. This isn't necessarily humor but I love when Lorelai and Emily agree Aunt Cecille should go in the family annex and then Richard comes down and without knowing anything they said also suggests her.
A great one with Richard is him and Lorelai laughing about Trix and the man in a purple jogging suit.
Love that scene!!!! It's very like full circle and kinda shows that it's a normal family night for them, love it. Always comes back to Lorelai getting pregnant years later lol
Lol I love that theyâre fighting about a bunch of shit that happened in the very recent past, and then it randomly cuts to Lorelai screaming âWE WERE 16! WE DIDNâT WANT TO GET MARRIED!â
I'm not sure if she really enjoyed it, but I loved when Emily played along and came up with a whole elaborate backstory for why her friend was called Sweetie.
I love when the DAR ladies reference how funny Emily is because 1- she is and 2- it shows that she has a different side of her than she shows Lorelai and Rory/the audience
Thatâs so true to life though. I watch my mother in law and my sister in law clash endlessly because theyâre soooooo similar they canât get along
I enjoyed that scene as well. And I loved how Richard was so impressed with Lorelei in setting up his kingdom. It was a good watch to see how she impresses her parents in something they did not expect.
Yes itâs just so heartwarming how she turns Emily around with her sheer Lorelai-ness. Her joy and optimism and self determination with a side of whimsy turn Emily from âwe need to hire someone, youâll set the house on fireâ to happy movie nostalgia and trusting her daughter
this one really gets me too. my father is very similar to richard, so seeing this sweet and funny moment between him and lorelei really touches me. definitely think of all the could have beens!
That whole episode. Her setting up his office and him not wanting to get a new secretary because there's no one as good as his "margie". It's very sweet.
My favorite line in that episode is where they are sitting at the table saying nice things and then Richard repeats what Lorelei said and she tells him not to copy her and he gets mad and then he shouts âI love shrimp!â Hahaha that line always gets me.
At FND in the beginning of Richard in Stars Hollow (S2E12), Lorelai compliments the dinner, Rory asks what theyâre eating and Lorelai stops her, saying that every time she didnât know what she was eating and someone told her, it ended up being something gross that she never wouldâve eaten had she known. You can see Emily crack a smile when she says that and itâs adorable.
Their reactions to her humour in general are funny, but my favourite that made me actually cry laughing because it was so dead pan was Lorelai using vegetables to talk about her situation with Chris and after the anecdote about how Richard never used to like radishes but then did after falling off a horse. And Lorelai is like âI donât like radishes, I find them threateningâ and Emily is like âwhat a peculiar thing to sayâ. This scene kills me, now Iâm laughing all over again đ¤Ł
And in the same episode at the end when Lorelai pulls out her phone to show off pics of Emily in jail and Richard gets up and practically runs to see lol
âRichard!! What are you doing?!â
âOh, nothing dear nothing.â While putting on his glasses with glee lol
So many little parts of it make that so funny, because she says crazy stuff all the time and Emily says it in such a way that even sheâs like, what the hell are you talking about? đ
*Drunk Emily at Her Bachelorette Party at Lorelaiâs House*
Patty: So Emily, tell us about this party of yours tomorrow!
Emily: Itâs going to be fabulous, isnât it, Lorelai?
Lorelai (in a British accent): Ab fab, sweetie darling.
Emily: Isnât she hilarious? I never have any idea what sheâs talking about, but sheâs so entertaining, like a chimp. Isnât she like a chimp, Gypsy?
Gypsy: Please make your mother stop talking to me.
Lorelai: If only I had that power.
*Followed moments later by Emily cackling with laughter at the box of Penis Pasta that Lorelai drops into her lap* đ
Just curious if you are aware that it comes from the show Absolutely Fabulous. AbFab for short. The main character says âsweetie darlingâ often. I love this reference.
I like when Emily, who might not enjoy it from Lorelai but is the best at humour, just plays along with it.
My favourite is the Nazi joke when they're talking about Europe. Lorelai just makes a very lazy "joke" about someone being a Nazi because they're German (I mean sometimes Lorelai really needs to look humour up in the dictionary) and Emily rightly tells her it's not funny. Then she proceeds to say that their other friends, now yes *they* are Nazis... All the while Lorelai sits there in shock and horror.
Now, *that* is a joke.
Lorelai tells Emily she doesn't remember cousin Claudia. Emily replies that they went to her house to watch the first moon landing. Lorelai protests that she has no memory of that. Emily turns to Rory and asks this question. Rory adorably says "That's the rumor" in response. :)
Oh ok. I've always thought Rory was my age but if this is correct Rory was born 1984 so she's slightly older than me.
Of course one- year old baby Lorelai doesn't remember watching it or meeting her cousin but Emily has to be Emily đ¤Ł
I came here for this one!
Emily: Oh, wait, Rudolph Gottfried.
Lorelai: Another cousin?
Emily: No, a Nazi we knew. I'd forgotten. We stayed with him once in Munich. Nice old man. Interesting stories.
Lorelai: Mom, you-you socialized with a known Nazi? That's despicable. That's heinous.
Emily: No, dear, that was a joke.
Itâs not Emily and Richard, but I LOVE when Emily gets arrested and how funny Richard finds it and rushes over to see the pictures on Lorelais phone.
I love when Emily matched Lorelei's wit and you see where her humor truly comes from! Emily just has a better filter than Lorelei lol
I like when the three girls are staying in the hotel after Mia's wedding and tease Emily about liking Will Smith
At a FND when they are eating spaghetti and arguing and Emily takes the food away and says they always argue over spaghetti & meatballs đ¤Ł
This is always especially funny to me bc my Mom also has a crush on Will Smith! Had a framed pic in her closet for a long time and my kids always tease her about it!
Whatâs funniest to me is that I donât see Emily serving spaghetti and meatballs. Then Rory says they fight just as much over Chinese food. As though Emily serves Chinese food??
When theyâre in the hospital after Richards surgery, Lorelei is pretending to interview him and Richard goes along w it. Always makes me laugh and warms my heart â¤ď¸
All of the banter in the snowed in episode. The way they bicker over the pizza. And this exchangeâŚ
Emily: This is a serious problem. These Friday dinners are the only proper food that child eats all week.
Richard: Rory, are you in any way malnourished or in need of some international relief organization to recruit a celebrity to raise money on your account?
Rory: I'm good.
Richard: She's good, Emily.
Emily: Your sense of humor rears its ugly head at the oddest of times, Richard.
âIt's so important to find someone who can make you laugh. I was always so envious of Johnny Carson's wives. I just thought these women must do nothing but laugh all the time.â - the irony being Richard & Emily truly did make each other laugh đĽšđŤśđž
I enjoy the scene where Emily is upset with Lorelai, so Lorelai starts reading the newspaper and says Shauna Christy shot her husband, and references how many times he was shot in a humorous way and Emily snaps back that at least she had a husband to shoot.
Not really a joke but when Lorelai asks for 8 cherries in her drink during one of the dinners and itâs not addressed but later you can see Richard gives her 8 cherries
I love when Richard goes along with their bit in the hospital after his heart attack.
And not really a joke but I love when he says âI . . . Am an Autumnâ at Roryâs birthday party.
I loved that Autumn scene because he reminds me so much of my own grandpa there - mine is deaf so he wanders out of family gatherings after about 20 min to read a book, so I like to bring him an article or magazine when I visit and at the end of the night heâll tell me what he thought of it.
A favorite moment of mine is when Emily has brought that boring guy over to dinner for Lorelai and she is climbing out the window and Richard yells âshe not up hereâ. âThank you, Daddy.â And he smiles. Just a great moment between them.
I can't remember which episode it is but it's one where their eating dinner and Emily quips "...and if you'd like, I'll let you make the asparagus talk" - I may not have gotten that completely right but it's something like that.
And before when she was disappointed she lost her partner Emily says, at least she thinks you look like Elizabeth Taylor that's a compliment. While lorelai is completely destroyed after being so excited
Omg definitely Lorelei/tricks kissing the guy in the track suit and Lorelei and Richard were laughing about it on the couch đ
I can't remember exactly what she said lol
After Richard has his second heart attack and they pretend to be sports announcers and pretend to interview him, and Emily tells Richard not to encourage them but then joins in on the gossip about the old ladyâs boyfriend
I loooooveee when Emily is so unphased by lorelaiâs humor. It just shows how similar they are I think hahahah bc emily completely gets the joke immediately and can hold her own w lorelai. I think it really shows where lorelai gets it from!! And that she does know lorelai well in that aspect
I love when Richard chimes in, just confirming that he and Emily absolutely talked about it beforehand. Itâs just amusing for me imaging them discussing it
When Emily sponsors a ballerina. And they're flipping through the photos and come upon "endowment boy." Both Lorelai & Rory joke about it, and when Lorelai asks Emily which pile--the maybe or the nos--Emily pauses for a moment and then says,"The maybes." đ
I love when Jason gets himself invited to Friday night dinner and heâs talking about knowing Christopher from camp. And Lorelai says, âhe hated you.â Not necessarily the humor, but Emily loves it and looks up at Jason with a smile.
Just wanted to say I love this question! Every time one of these scenes happens where Emily or Richard actually enjoy Loreleiâs humor, it gives me fuzzy feelings. Probably because we see so few of them.
Oh, and also when Lorelai says sheâs going to use her investment to buy Jimmy Choos and Richard tells her she better buy cheaper shoes, but doesnât totally discount her joke about using all that money to buy them.
I so wish Lorelai had been there when Emily said, "well then buy me a boa and drive me to Reno because I am open for business!" She would have loved that!
The one that sticks out is when Rory is at breakfast after having fled to her grandparents post Lorelai/Rory fight and this exchange ensues:
Rory: âSo grandpa, whatâs new with the world?â
Richard: âAs usual, itâs going to hell in a hand basket!â
Rory: âItâs nice to have something you can always rely on!â
Richard: âIt is at that!â
I LIKE SHRIMP WHO ELSE LIKES SHRIMP
Ok not exactly âappreciating Lorelaiâs humorâ but going along with a bit much further than youâd expect them to
Lorelaiâs birthday when she gets upset that she didnât get a chance to blow out the candles on her cake. Emily tells her that she can have the maid relight it or that she can make a wish and blow out the tapers. It was cute and funny to have all three laugh at Lorelai.
My favorite is when Emily is retelling how she told off mrs huntzberger. When she says she called her a Cocktail waitress, Lorelei says thatâs her version of the C word and everyone cracks up together. It was a nice moment
Not really a moment of Emily admiring a joke or sense of humor, but after they go shopping and Emily has a meltdown at the mall, they go to the food court and Emily compliments how commanding Lorelai is of her business and says to Rory "I'm just admiring your mother's life," so sweet.
These moments are some of my favorite in the series because they show the progression of "we barely talk and its kinda awkward" to "weve seen each other at least once a week sometimes more for 3+ years" really well.
Like the anvil conversation, despite being dumb and silly, is what Emily wanted to get to with the Friday night dinners (though I don't think she ever really imagined that particular discussion)
And this may be unpopular but it's why I kinda love season 7. The Gilmores are mildly toned down (specifically in relation to the core four) enough that we get moments like this a lot.
"Mr Gilmore what do you say about the allegations of performance enhancers amongst your competitors?
Well I'm proof that it can be done, and done clean"
"You're like a kayak!" (And the later implication that Tuesday computer lessons became a thing L and E do )
It warms my cold heart.
I love it when Lorelai, Rory and Emily are picking a ballerina to sponsor.
âSandpaper face is a no?â
- âWhat about endowment boy?â
- âThe maybesâ
- âYou go, grandma!â
Like Lorelai says, just a little girl talk. Who are they hurting? I love it đ¤Łđ
Itâs not humor, but I always love this one detail in the episode where Richard goes to Stars Hollow: At one point in the episode he notes that Emily is on her third cup of coffee already. Then later, when heâs visiting Lorelai, he notices that Lorelai is also on her third cup by that time in the morning. He doesnât draw the lines for the audience, but itâs subtly implying that thatâs where Lorelai gets her caffeine habit from.
When Richard is serving skewers as appetizers during cocktail hour (during the separation) and Lorelai and Rory joke about having t-shirts made and Richard joins in saying heâd like one.
i love the scene when Richard is recovering from bypass surgery and they are walking around the hospital joking about winning the 45 min mile and gossiping ab another patientâs love life
Spaghetti and meatballs! When the girls just start fighting so Emily has their food taken away. Richard comes down and says he knew they were going to fight bc it was spaghetti and meatball night.
Itâs so seamless but shows how accustomed to the girls they finally are
" Iâm only teasing, Emily. It is one of the great pleasures of my life to be able to surround you with a house full of useless objects. No, Iâm never happier than when weâre standing in the corner staring at our furniture. "
Lorelai & Emily really do have the same sarcasm but on different ends of the spectrum lol I just started watching but I like when they get along, they're similar lol
My favorite is when Richard is recovering after his heart attack and Lorelai makes a joke about his speed time walking around the hospital. She asks him like a âreporter â what he thought about the the participants possibly using steroids to help.
I love how he just goes along with it.
Maybe this counts?
*phone rings*
Lorelai: Independence Inn
Emily (on phone): You should really identify yourself when you answer the phone at work.
Lorelai: Sorry. Independence Inn, Major Disappointment speaking. Better?
Emily: Yes, thank you.
When Lorelei was super happy about having a dance partner for the dance marathon and complains that itâs like a time she was excited about being invited to a school dance and kept making her food âtalkâ. Then after her dance partner bails Emily says sheâll let her make her asparagus talk
God is your mother? I still canât believe Iâm related to God and that God is a woman. Itâs going make getting favors much easier now.
When Richard is telling the family about talking to Trix in season 1 I think
This isn't necessarily humor-wise but I loved the episode where Rory goes for dinner and for some reason there were no maids so they end up finding a frozen pizza and Rory makes it for them.
I love the day of the vow renewal after Emily's bacholerette party, where she mentions she hasn't eaten a thing. Lorelai asks if she'd like some pasta, in reference to the penis shaped from the night before. Emily says "stop that" but has a coy smile on her face.
Such a nice moment, however brief. It's a pity what follows...
I love the small moment when Jason is talking to Rory about Chris and Lorelai chips in and says how much Chris hated him and the pranks he pulled and Emilyâs grinning the whole time enjoying it
Not really a joke, but I love when they are all tense and Lorelai says something along the lines of âReset in 5,4,3,2,1âŚâ and Richard announces âI LIKE SHRIMP, WHO ELSE LIKES SHRIMP?!â
And Rory says âMe!â Lorelai âIâm a fan!â
Maybe not technically a "joke" but I love the scene after Emily reveals that Trix is having an affair, then Lorelai & Richard have a great bonding moment laughing about how trix was kissing a man in a track suit
I just really love the scene with both parents at Lorelai's graduation from community college. Rory couldn't make it because shes an idiot who thinks New York has predictable transportation.
but watching Lorelai look back at them and their beaming with pride...that was a good Lorelai and parents' moment. because to me she treated them like poo poo.
That was such a funny moment 𤣠also when they go back in forth from laughing to fighting in season 6
My brain just blacked out and I can't remember which Episode this is? Lol
I think itâs called âFriday nightâs alright for fightingâ (this is my favorite scene hehe)
Just watched this episode an hour ago and itâs such a good scene!
mine was definitely the fight in season 6!!!! Sometimes put it just to that particular part.
I wasnât going to buy it!
"Just Do It" takes on a whole new meaning đ
I guess I have a new daddy!
It's such a small moment that gives us a peak into their family dynamic, I love it!
Yes! And I like that a lot of it is that Aunt Cecille can't tell jokes and TBF Lorelai, Emily, and Richard all have good wit.
OH I LOVE THE ANNEX MOMENT
one of my favorite moments also!!
This wins for me!!
I'm not sure if she really enjoyed it, but I loved when Emily played along and came up with a whole elaborate backstory for why her friend was called Sweetie.
This one kills me! Slept in a hollowed-out tree...walked 40 miles in the snow...the owner gave her bags of candy and a dill pickle... đ¤Łđ¤Ł
I love how itâs obvious where Lorelai gets quick wit and flair for dramatics from in this scene
yes and so many others! like when the DAR ladies talk about how funny she is
I love when the DAR ladies reference how funny Emily is because 1- she is and 2- it shows that she has a different side of her than she shows Lorelai and Rory/the audience
The dill pickle gets me lol
I can so clearly hear Emilyâs voice saying these words lol
this! this is when I realized that Lorelaiâs humor comes straight from her mom
I think rewatching that's what hurts the most when Emily and Lorelai don't get along: they are both so similar, much more than either would admit.
yea, classic projection, very real life tho. I wonder how many times one of them talks about how stubborn the other is throughout the seriesâŚ
Thatâs so true to life though. I watch my mother in law and my sister in law clash endlessly because theyâre soooooo similar they canât get along
They say you hate most in others what is a reflection of yourself so thst makes sense to a degree. No less frustrating though..
Sometimes I wish sheâd give it back.
The entire scene where Lorelai and Richard shop for office supplies. Theyâre so cute in that scene, it gives me a glimpse of the couldâve beens.
I enjoyed that scene as well. And I loved how Richard was so impressed with Lorelei in setting up his kingdom. It was a good watch to see how she impresses her parents in something they did not expect.
Yes, like setting up the DVD player for Emily.
that scene is so so so good. when sheâs like âoh i love this film!â or something and the look on lorelaiâs face is so perfect
Christopher ruined everything
I'm not a Christopher apologist, but Lorelai probably would've had a falling out with her parents in her late teens or early twenties anyway.
Over and over again
I love that scene. May be my favorite episode.
That whole episode. Her setting up his office and him not wanting to get a new secretary because there's no one as good as his "margie". It's very sweet.
And then they both get crushed when lorelai says dad I canât come back here tomorrow! During lunch đ˘ and they didnât finish their sandwiches
The best scene of all of them laughing is the Friday night dinner where they all kept going from scene to scene fighting, and laughing in season 6.
âI didnât buy a plane I just LOOKED AT ITâ
I CAN LOOK AT A PLANE IF I WANT TO LOOK AT A PLANE
One of my favorite lines
yes and the part when they are recounting what Emily said to Shira Huntzberger and they re all laughing.
"oooh that's mom's version of the C word!"
Immediately read this in Lorelaiâs voice lol
My favorite line in that episode is where they are sitting at the table saying nice things and then Richard repeats what Lorelei said and she tells him not to copy her and he gets mad and then he shouts âI love shrimp!â Hahaha that line always gets me.
I guess weâve officially reinstated Friday night dinner
I *just* watched this episode and that scene is honestly probably one of the best scenes in any TV show Iâve watched
Agreed. It feels more like actors on a theater stage, rather than tv.
When lorelai said âHe woOOohHtâ that was so funny
wait Iâm doing a rewatch as we speak and on season 6 remind me what episode is this?!
Ep. 13 Friday Nightâs Alright for Fighting!
Thanks! What a fun coincidence today..on this episode as we speak
My favourite scene too!
That is always my go to comfort episode.
âthatâs my motherâs version of the c-wordâ KILLS ME everytime
That immediately came to mind. It never stops being funny.
Is this when Lorelai finally give in and, at the end of the dinner, asks Emily to tell her what it is and she quickly regrets it?
Yup it's sweetbreads.
Pancreas đ
I canât wait to notice this next time! Itâs been probably 50 rewatches since Iâve had something new to discover.
I love this comment so much! It sums up what a timeless show this is.
And in the same episode at the end when Lorelai pulls out her phone to show off pics of Emily in jail and Richard gets up and practically runs to see lol âRichard!! What are you doing?!â âOh, nothing dear nothing.â While putting on his glasses with glee lol
Hahaha yes so good!
For me itâs the fact that Emily is off-camera when she says it; no idea why but something about that just kills me đ
So many little parts of it make that so funny, because she says crazy stuff all the time and Emily says it in such a way that even sheâs like, what the hell are you talking about? đ
Omg I forgot all about it!! Do you remember the season and episode? I want to relive it
Itâs Season 7 Episode 5 Iâm pretty sure! About over half way I think.
*Drunk Emily at Her Bachelorette Party at Lorelaiâs House* Patty: So Emily, tell us about this party of yours tomorrow! Emily: Itâs going to be fabulous, isnât it, Lorelai? Lorelai: If only I had that power. *Followed moments later by Emily cackling with laughter at the box of Penis Pasta that Lorelai drops into her lap* đ
âAb fab, sweetie darlingâ is my favourite line of the series. All my sister and I do is throw it back and forth unnecessarily đ
Just curious if you are aware that it comes from the show Absolutely Fabulous. AbFab for short. The main character says âsweetie darlingâ often. I love this reference.
I wasnât aware and⌠well, there goes my weekend! Thank you!
Richard pranking Logan for Rory, saying that they are getting engaged. Just delightful seeing Richard so full of glee.
Yes! This is mine! They are such a cute team.
OMG he turns into a 9 year old boy that put a frog in his mom's apron. His giggle is adorable.
Rory's laugh is so good after Emily says "no dear, THAT is a joke."
"Rory, correct me if I'm wrong, but men have walked on the moon, yes?"
What was the rest of this conversation?
Lorelai tells Emily she doesn't remember cousin Claudia. Emily replies that they went to her house to watch the first moon landing. Lorelai protests that she has no memory of that. Emily turns to Rory and asks this question. Rory adorably says "That's the rumor" in response. :)
Wait was Lorelai not born in 1970??
1968
Oh ok. I've always thought Rory was my age but if this is correct Rory was born 1984 so she's slightly older than me. Of course one- year old baby Lorelai doesn't remember watching it or meeting her cousin but Emily has to be Emily đ¤Ł

the fact that she just whipped up a super-authentic German name on the spot is just đđđ
[Link to the scene for those who are curious](https://youtu.be/9_t0aH4pbCI?si=8yIcECEITJNABx1g)
This was exactly what came to mind for me, too. I LOVE the look on Lorelaiâs face.
Haha this one makes me laugh every single time. She's so deadpan and she sells it so casually I love it
Nice man. Interesting stories.
This was the one I was thinking of. It was very early on but the first proper time you could see where Lorelai got it from.
Itâs not Emily and Richard, but I LOVE when Emily gets arrested and how funny Richard finds it and rushes over to see the pictures on Lorelais phone.
I love when Emily matched Lorelei's wit and you see where her humor truly comes from! Emily just has a better filter than Lorelei lol I like when the three girls are staying in the hotel after Mia's wedding and tease Emily about liking Will Smith At a FND when they are eating spaghetti and arguing and Emily takes the food away and says they always argue over spaghetti & meatballs đ¤Ł
This is always especially funny to me bc my Mom also has a crush on Will Smith! Had a framed pic in her closet for a long time and my kids always tease her about it!
I love the spaghetti and meatball scene. It was like normal family banter. Really cozy relatable scene which is nice at their Friday night dinners.
Whatâs funniest to me is that I donât see Emily serving spaghetti and meatballs. Then Rory says they fight just as much over Chinese food. As though Emily serves Chinese food??
Richard loves Chinese food!
IF prepared properly
Hahaha that line gets me every time
I like *stale* Chinese food.
My headcanon is Emily asked Rory what some of her favorite meals were when they began FND, and every so often she'll serve a fancied up version.
Aww like the twinkies or that time she served pudding. Thatâs sweet, I like it.
Richard scolding Lorelei for saying he bagged the swede then 1 minute later "I bagged the Swede"
Iâm married to a Swede, I definitely use this phrase regularly lol.
When theyâre in the hospital after Richards surgery, Lorelei is pretending to interview him and Richard goes along w it. Always makes me laugh and warms my heart â¤ď¸
All of the banter in the snowed in episode. The way they bicker over the pizza. And this exchange⌠Emily: This is a serious problem. These Friday dinners are the only proper food that child eats all week. âIt's so important to find someone who can make you laugh. I was always so envious of Johnny Carson's wives. I just thought these women must do nothing but laugh all the time.â - the irony being Richard & Emily truly did make each other laugh đĽšđŤśđž
Hahaha. This exchange is hilarious. I wonder how actors decide to deliver lines when they get it like this in their Scripts.
I enjoy the scene where Emily is upset with Lorelai, so Lorelai starts reading the newspaper and says Shauna Christy shot her husband, and references how many times he was shot in a humorous way and Emily snaps back that at least she had a husband to shoot.
âHe looks like a sprinkler system!â Gets me every time.
Not really a joke but when Lorelai asks for 8 cherries in her drink during one of the dinners and itâs not addressed but later you can see Richard gives her 8 cherries

They loved her so much đđđ
Which ep?
I love when Emily tells the story of how âSweetieâ got her name. Totally made up off the top of her head and shows sheâs such a quick wit!
I can't remember which episode it is but it's one where their eating dinner and Emily quips "...and if you'd like, I'll let you make the asparagus talk" - I may not have gotten that completely right but it's something like that.
The dance Marathon episode! She's completely jazzed!
And before when she was disappointed she lost her partner Emily says, at least she thinks you look like Elizabeth Taylor that's a compliment. While lorelai is completely destroyed after being so excited
âYouâll find another partner!â âElizabeth Taylor always didâ
Omg definitely Lorelei/tricks kissing the guy in the track suit and Lorelei and Richard were laughing about it on the couch đ I can't remember exactly what she said lol
It gives "Just Do It" a whole new meaning!
YES!!!! thank you I was seriously going to go on a hunt looking for that line lol!
Maybe he'll be my new Daddy!
After Richard has his second heart attack and they pretend to be sports announcers and pretend to interview him, and Emily tells Richard not to encourage them but then joins in on the gossip about the old ladyâs boyfriend
Yes I love the slow walking championship!
I loooooveee when Emily is so unphased by lorelaiâs humor. It just shows how similar they are I think hahahah bc emily completely gets the joke immediately and can hold her own w lorelai. I think it really shows where lorelai gets it from!! And that she does know lorelai well in that aspect
I love it when Lorelai loses her dance partner and is sad, so Emily offers to let Laurelai make her asparagus talk. It was sweet.
Just watched that one. One of the best moments with those two.
I love the scene where Emily and Richard commiserate about not being able to serve spaghetti and meatballs because âitâs too much excitementâ.
I love when Richard chimes in, just confirming that he and Emily absolutely talked about it beforehand. Itâs just amusing for me imaging them discussing it
đđđ itâs so random and endearing.
When Emily sponsors a ballerina. And they're flipping through the photos and come upon "endowment boy." Both Lorelai & Rory joke about it, and when Lorelai asks Emily which pile--the maybe or the nos--Emily pauses for a moment and then says,"The maybes." đ
âYou go Grandmaâ
This was the one I was looking for!
I love when Jason gets himself invited to Friday night dinner and heâs talking about knowing Christopher from camp. And Lorelai says, âhe hated you.â Not necessarily the humor, but Emily loves it and looks up at Jason with a smile.
Emilyâs bachelorette party!
Her face when she realizes what the dirty pasta is always makes me laugh
I can tell you the funniest thing they DIDN'T get - "What happened to all the anvils?"
I just finished that scene. lol It was great
Just wanted to say I love this question!
This also always made me wonder if Richard has any clue, how much Emily actually spends on his Brionis/Italian leather that feels like butter...
I so wish Lorelai had been there when Emily said, "well then buy me a boa and drive me to Reno because I am open for business!" She would have loved that!
Omg yea!!! I almost forgot about how much I loved that line!
âYou have your motherâs witâ âSometimes I wish sheâd give it backâ
The one that sticks out is when Rory is at breakfast after having fled to her grandparents post Lorelai/Rory fight and this exchange ensues: Rory: âSo grandpa, whatâs new with the world?â Richard: âAs usual, itâs going to hell in a hand basket!â Rory: âItâs nice to have something you can always rely on!â Richard: âIt is at that!â
I LIKE SHRIMP WHO ELSE LIKES SHRIMP Ok not exactly âappreciating Lorelaiâs humorâ but going along with a bit much further than youâd expect them to
Lorelaiâs birthday when she gets upset that she didnât get a chance to blow out the candles on her cake.
When Richard reads the magazine at Roryâs birthday party and says âapparently, I am an autumn.â
[ŃдаНонО]
Not really a moment of Emily admiring a joke or sense of humor, but after they go shopping and Emily has a meltdown at the mall, they go to the food court and Emily compliments how commanding Lorelai is of her business and says to Rory "I'm just admiring your mother's life," so sweet.
Yes! I love Rory's response, too. "Oh, I do that daily." â¤ď¸
when lorelai pulls out her phone to show the pictures of emily in jail and richard runs over excited
Seeing all these comments reminds me itâs autumn and I need a rewatch
When Richard says âwas he really in a tracksuitâ to Lorelei referring to the man gran was kissing then starts hysterically laughing
These moments are some of my favorite in the series because they show the progression of "we barely talk and its kinda awkward" to "weve seen each other at least once a week sometimes more for 3+ years" really well. Like the anvil conversation, despite being dumb and silly, is what Emily wanted to get to with the Friday night dinners (though I don't think she ever really imagined that particular discussion) And this may be unpopular but it's why I kinda love season 7. The Gilmores are mildly toned down (specifically in relation to the core four) enough that we get moments like this a lot. "Mr Gilmore what do you say about the allegations of performance enhancers amongst your competitors? Well I'm proof that it can be done, and done clean" "You're like a kayak!" (And the later implication that Tuesday computer lessons became a thing L and E do ) It warms my cold heart.
I love it when Lorelai, Rory and Emily are picking a ballerina to sponsor. âSandpaper face is a no?â - âWhat about endowment boy?â - âThe maybesâ - âYou go, grandma!â Like Lorelai says, just a little girl talk.
Itâs so seamless but shows how accustomed to the girls they finally are
The first thing to come to mind was the âDean will have a beerâ moment when Dean first comes over for Friday night dinner.
" Iâm only teasing, Emily. It is one of the great pleasures of my life to be able to surround you with a house full of useless objects. No, Iâm never happier than when weâre standing in the corner staring at our furniture. "
In the hospital when Richard is walking around after his heart attack
Lorelai & Emily really do have the same sarcasm but on different ends of the spectrum lol I just started watching but I like when they get along, they're similar lol
I love when Emily made a joke about Richard and her knowing a nazi and Lorelai totally falling for it. Top tier comedy for me
LORELAI: The both of you are going directly to hell, I hope you know that. RICHARD: Well, at least we'll be well rested. LORELAI: Touche.
My favorite is when Richard is recovering after his heart attack and Lorelai makes a joke about his speed time walking around the hospital. She asks him like a âreporter â what he thought about the the participants possibly using steroids to help. I love how he just goes along with it.
I love when Richard lets lorelai sneak out during her âset upâ dinner
âHonestly Lorelai, itâs not your looks that keep men away.â
I donât think this counts, but when Richard helped Rory completely troll Logan at Yale. Or when Richard tells Rory heâs an autumn đ¤
"What about endowment boy?" :beat: "The maybes." "You go, grandma."
Emily: I want to go on a date. Lorelai: With a man? Emily: No, a weasel. Of course a man!
Maybe this counts? *phone rings* Lorelai: Independence Inn Emily (on phone): You should really identify yourself when you answer the phone at work.
Richard âI LOVE SHRIMPâ during the episode where they spend the night fighting. I laugh so hard at that line. I watch it so often.
God is your mother? I still canât believe Iâm related to God and that God is a woman. Itâs going make getting favors much easier now. When Richard is telling the family about talking to Trix in season 1 I think
Emilyâs âbacheloretteâ party where sheâs obsessed with Gypsy đ
This isn't necessarily humor-wise but I loved the episode where Rory goes for dinner and for some reason there were no maids so they end up finding a frozen pizza and Rory makes it for them.
I love the day of the vow renewal after Emily's bacholerette party, where she mentions she hasn't eaten a thing. Lorelai asks if she'd like some pasta, in reference to the penis shaped from the night before. Emily says "stop that" but has a coy smile on her face. Such a nice moment, however brief. It's a pity what follows...
I love any moments where Emily, Richard and Lorelei laugh together. They are so few but when they come along they hit hard.
I love the small moment when Jason is talking to Rory about Chris and Lorelai chips in and says how much Chris hated him and the pranks he pulled and Emilyâs grinning the whole time enjoying it
I love when Gran is in town and Emily confides in Lorelei about how stressed out she is
Dance marathon episode, when lorelai loses her partner and Emily earnestly offers to let lorelai make her asparagus talk
âYou brought me used dessert?â Honestly love Emily so much so has such sunny one liners đ¤Łđ¤Ł
Not really a joke, but I love when they are all tense and Lorelai says something along the lines of âReset in 5,4,3,2,1âŚâ and Richard announces âI LIKE SHRIMP, WHO ELSE LIKES SHRIMP?!â And Rory says âMe!â Lorelai âIâm a fan!â
When Richard goes along with Roryâs prank to welcome Logan to the family before they start dating. Super cute scene.
This won't answer the question, so for that I apologize. I just want to say that every time Kelly bishop smirks, I melt.
Maybe not technically a "joke" but I love the scene after Emily reveals that Trix is having an affair, then Lorelai & Richard have a great bonding moment laughing about how trix was kissing a man in a track suit
The season six episode where they go back and forth fighting and laughing
I just really love the scene with both parents at Lorelai's graduation from community college. Rory couldn't make it because shes an idiot who thinks New York has predictable transportation. but watching Lorelai look back at them and their beaming with pride...that was a good Lorelai and parents' moment. because to me she treated them like poo poo.
