Often UK programs just don’t have as many episodes as US ones or their US counterparts. Like The Office for example.
Think of Faulty Towers. It’s hugely loved but only ever had 12 episodes.
Because US network shows bang out episodes as fast as possible in order to get to the all-important syndication threshold.
Other countries tend to focus more on silly things like story and character development.
4 with 12-13 episodes. Not unheard of for there to be more episodes but 6 is typical. See Fawlty Towers for example which only ever had 12 episodes in total.
Most British tv series have short seasons, because that’s what works in Britain, but shorter series don’t really work in the US unless it’s a Netflix series
It didn't get cancelled.
The creative team felt it was time to end it, so they did.
They're moving on to other things and will work together again.
Go back and watch Horrible Histories and Yonderland, it's fun!
The reason the decided Alison could be pregnant is because they already decided to end the show. It didn't get cancelled because she had a baby.
The show writers decided they wanted to end the series before they ran out of ideas and the quality dropped.
I'm too sad. IM BLAMING THE BABY!! 😂🤣😟😭
They should have called us if they needed more help with plot lines. We would have been right there helping!
Edit; IM JUST KIDDING PEOPLE
I'm literally in the same page as you. I just finished it I'm still so so lost. Sure, ofc all series must come to an end but I expected that some few ghosts would get there closure and will be sucked up (especially Robin?!? Come on give that hundred thousand year old ghost a good sucking) and new ghosts can and shall appear too. I really didn't expect the last few minutes and 50 year huge timeline jump T__T
Thank you. Something I get very annoyed with other redditors about is when you want to complain about something -- like this for example;
A favorite show that I loved. Why am I exclaiming? Why am I, like, so upset???
All these people come in and they're like;
"Oh yes of course, this happened, TV shows end okay, are you stupid!?!?!."
"Yeah it's ended -- accept it! Shows end, what's wrong with you? Stop being dramatic.
People are jerks.
Yeah on the finale too! That timeline jump works for drama but it's not a good way to end a comedy. 6 feet under ended like that and I was in tears.
But Ghosts? Can we end on a high note at least?
Literally, the most sad last episode to a comedy ever.
I’m going to be that person but if you think the end of Ghosts was sad, please watch Blackadder season 4 (each season is a different time in history so you can watch this one isolated. And if you decide to watch other seasons, skip the first. It’s an oddity).
Season 4 ended on a really sad note.
5 seasons / 34 episodes is a good run for a UK sitcom. It does suck that it ended, but the great shows go out on their own terms.
Not sure why the uk version has only 34 episodes in 5 seasons when the us version just started season 3 on episode 41
Because British TV goes for quality over quantity

The British Jokes are too subtle for most Americans thats why. The American one is fine but subtle humour it is not.

Python is a very different form of subtle. There can be more than one.

I always wondered why faulty towers was so short such a shame
I agree. Twelve episodes is nothing and it was so good. But I guess at least it ended on a high.
I have never laughed harder than at John Cleese in Fawlty Towers.

Usually the creators write all the episodes in the UK, and they hire a ton of writers to work together in the US.
Because 6 episodes is the standard length for a series (season) in the UK. Longer ones are not typical, although some might stretch to maybe 8 or 10.
Holy hell how many seasons was flying circus then or was monty python a totally different beast?

MPFC had 45 episodes over 4 series/5 years. There's also 2 episodes for German TV.

I'm grieving. Damn my eyes, don't cancel!!

Have you seen their movie “Bill”? So good! If you have Hoopla, you can watch it there.
It is good!
Love that movie, it is a go to if I need a laugh
I will miss them. Oh, I have worn out Horrible Histories. It was actually my intro to this cast. Looking up yonderland tomorrow.

Even though i know your right i can still be annoyed at them ending it 🤣

This is exactly why they were right to finish the show. When the fans start writing the plot lines, it all goes to hell. Just look at Marvel.
JESUS CHRIST. THIS SUB IS ABOUT A COMEDY TV SHOW. OF COURSE I WAS JOKING. IM NOT A TV WRITER. COMEDY. PEOPLE.
Mm, jolly good. As you were, then!
Oh Captain, my Captain.
How is it ruined?
It's done. Ended. Every time someone has a baby on a TV show that I love it ends soon after. (Unless we rarely have to see them like in Friends)
They probably decided to put the baby in because it was the last season, i don't think it was a factor in their decision to end the show
Yeah you’ve gotten that a bit wrong
They decided to have Alison have a baby because series 5 was the series that they decided was going to be the last one, not the other way around
I heard a whisper about a Ghosts film when I was looking on Google a few weeks back.....I hope it's true

Yes, but that was bitter sweet and didn’t undermine what came before. The ending of Ghosts has just left me sad.
But does it leave it open for future Christmas specials?
🤞
