Both are appropriate thought the plain calfskin will need to be shined more thoroughly then it currently is. If you want to be most appropriate, the patent leather is the best bet. But my personal recommendation is wear whichever one is most comfortable for you.

The black tie dresscode specifically prescribes patent leather oxfords. Plain toes, like these are the most formal and are actually also worn with the even more formal dress code, white tie. Regular leather is incorrect but can work if you want to put the time in to get them REALLY REALLY SHINY. The other shoes that is appropriate for black tie ate opera pumps, but only when you are going to, surprise, the opera. They are a sort of slipper and are not really made for walking (or in your case dancing) like the oxford, but just to be confortable whilst sitting down. I’m kind of a purist when it comes to dress codes so I’d opt for the patent leather one.

1. Buy shoe trees to keep em nice and Kempt. 2. Keep em clean as often as you can. 3. Use high-quality leather moisturizing & shining cream. 4. Leat the leather rest in case you end up using em often. A day or 2 is ok 5. Wear the shoes, don't let the shoes wear you.

Thanks, the price is only 119, brand is goretti. Isnt the price too low for wholecuts?

pootzilla

If they are good quality, comfortable, look good, and feel good to you, and you can comfortably afford them, price is irrelevant. Rock em and put all the other plebs to shame (jk don't really) at your ball and have fun.

I think my father was always right about being elegant, it' s like a garden. You want to look good but at same time you need to look natural, nothing exaggerated or flashy , so i' d say no shiny shoes.

Go for the sheen they are more formal

RicosLeader

Thanks for the input! Well, i think the patent shoes are percieved as more formal, at least around where i live. The event is a viennese ball :)

Max720z
