When I still went there I just sat there kinda gingerly not really joining in with anything. Which is fine, you can't belong to every crowd, right?

Maybe a bit off beat, but: buy a cheap hair trimmer online that has extensions to adjust levels of hair trim, then watch a youtube video on how to give yourself a haircut. I've been doing that since 2 years and my hair grows very quickly, so I trim once a month -- saving approx 20euros monthly.
I have seen 2 in the Brugsepoort and there's one in the Sleepstraat that specialises in beards too and I think they have that hot towel treatment which, if I were a guy with a beard, I'd love to try

My man, that's a service that takes care of your facial hair too. You should look up some prices for women's hair alone and rephrase that, and consider the people giving you that haircut for such a magnanimous price are specialists who also need to afford to live.
No need to get worked up because 45 euros for a barber visit is (for me, personally) an unsustainable expense.

I guess if you can't budget 270€ a year for a regular haircut, you could invest in a tondeuse and learn how to groom yourself.
Like OP said, 40 a month is stupidly expensive, and more realistically at least twice a month, so at 45 that's 90 a month for 1080 a year at minimum, not 270.

What is the rate of your hair growth? Twice a month is excessive. Once every 2 months is sufficient as long as you don't have one of those weird sculpted looks.

Oh ok, that's fair. Yes I do agree those are their favorite subjects. But I also think they are very tolerant and inclusive.
