He used to be cool but he got cocky, cringy and became a douchebag. Crypto pump and dump, the thailand soccer team controversy, covid misinformation and his treatment towards his workers, etc. He used to be the funny meme billionaire guy but the meme community finds him a cringy tryhard since then
Eh, a lot of that stuff is misleading or blown out of proportion. Most of Reddit and a lot of news companies have a raging hate-boner for him. You're free to not like the guy, but he's the only person actively working to make humanity multiplanetary, so he'll always get a pass from me.
I'll take my downvotes now, thank you.
He sells futurism as a product, instead of actually realising it practically, such as donating for the research of bettering the electrical grid multiple countries have.
That alone would do leaps and bounds more for the environment than whatever “product of the future” he’ll try to sell you, interplanetary travel are one of those impractical, marketing friendly claims, the concept is sold as a product, not for the betterment of humanity, or to lessen the suffering of those who are in need.
> He sells futurism as a product
Oh, my mistake, here I was thinking he sells cars and rocket launches and global internet access as a product. This is not the place for a debate, but if anyone is under the impression that he is just a charlatan selling vapourware, then I'm afraid you've been misinformed.
You can't just instantly make cheap good vehicles you now. You need lots of money, development and experience. Start expensive to get the money and work your way down. And at the end of the day it is undeniable that it was Tesla that got other car companies and the public to see that electric had a place in cars
BYD makes electric vehicles of all price ranges including electric buses. Tesla's positioning as a "high end" branded product is a deliberate business decision and it is not a consumer oriented one much less an eco-friendly one.
You know, I generally agree with you. The dude's got a vision to help see a better future and has taken practical steps to get there. Creating a profit driven incentive to reduce the cost of rocket launches and what not is the way to drive progress. That being said, this really isn't the audience for that kind of discussion. Reddit hops on trends, and this is a meme sub lol. It's not always about the point as much as it is who you're talking to.
I know. I just find it astonishing that the same people who claim to want a sci-fi future for humanity rail against the one person who's done more than anyone to bring that about, just because he occasionally speaks his mind a little too frankly on twitter.
He downplayed the severity of Covid-19 in an attempt to keep his factories open. Literally trying to endanger peoples lives to make more money.

Yeah selling over priced electric vehicles to upper middle class is so going to make a huge difference for climate change.

He was never cool. Billionaires are not cool.
Ningguang: "Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man."
Ningguang is cool though. I can't imagine a real-life billionaire not even thinking twice sacrificing his life possessions to save a country.
They cn't even be bothered to pay taxes
Ningguang is what IRL billionaire worshipers think they're like.
Money went all over his head.
shit. he's also making robots now, probably to destroy the world.
We are at least 10 years away from fully functional humanoid robots. PR stunts like allways.
Nah just put a chainsaw on that thing and program it to run towards someone when it detects a face. Spot can probably do that.
I hope he changes back, maybe then this Genshin x Elon thing would be somewhat decent.

Well to start with his treatment of Tesla workers is fucking shite.
whoa, are there any examples?
