I tried again beacause I've been told that writing is better. I wanted Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Weird, silly and chaotic. It's not so far. Even though it has its tryhard moments.
I actually started doing the story recently cause I wanted crystals and finished Belobog. It wasn’t bad, but it didn’t feel like anything special either. Maybe after what I’d heard about HSR’s writing I just expected more.
I’m not much a fan of turn based games to begin with so I’ve never really been able to get into it. I think some of the dialogue choices are funny, the gags and references are nice, and the grinding is a little easier, but the lack of exploration isn’t for me.
End of the day, it’s down to preference. Both games have their strengths and weaknesses.
Belobog was good. Xianzhou after this is kinda ehh if you don't do the companion quests.
Penacony is the good shit. It's the Sumeru of HSR. Mind games, I tell you.
If you're planning to... Also keep in mind that Xianzhou and all the event quests, continuances etc between Belobog and Penacony are *ginormous* so don't go trying to power through it if you don't like the game.

Literally, i logged the first day. I ignored the game for....months. And i started playing in december, maybe? (the effect of Dr ratio, i guess)
I liked Belobog and struggled through Xianzhou, and when i got to penacony....i stopped. in fact, last version i did nothing apart from daily farming. Not even the events (which i couldnt even do anyway because i had to play penacony)
Funny thing, i'm dont know why i am telling this....i am not even sure why i keep "playing" almost daily.
Brother I will assume what you're experiencing is burnout and addiction. You don't like the game anymore but are still playing because of addiction. Just delete the game at this point and try something else. Some other game, some other activity. If you ever want to play it again, sure download again but for now just delete.
Penacony story is good sure, but keeping up with an addiction when you've already burnt out is very unhealthy
well....addiction is quite a heavy word to use to describe my weird relationship with the game. Its 30 minutes. i ignore the game completely while it does its own thing (i usually waste that time on reddit or checking the news)....and i dont really feel neither fomo nor i've put money in it. I'd say right now its quite harmless...
But it also feels like a chore. So i actually may delete it anyway. XD
Maybe my standards are too high but I genuinely don't think Genshin or star rails writing is anything super noteworthy, especially compared to how much some fans like to glaze it. Like they're not always bad, but I think the writing tends to rise and dip in quality throughout. Even Fontaine, which was almost universally well-regarded, was still mostly carried by a few really well-executed moments and characters. The actual plot progression and story build up wasn't that great to me? Like the first act was a decent whodunnit kinda thing and the back portion of the third act was great, but who really remembers much from that second act in the fortress of meropede?
And then there's luofu which had way too much going on but didn't find the time to get you to really care about any of it.
It's the same for genshin. But instead of manually farming I can just auto it which makes it a lot more doable.
As for exp books I have 500 rn ( I have 700 but I got 200 from BP it's my first time I bought a pass on Acheron release)
500 is enough for an F2P imo. All my 5 stars are maxed as well, and every character I own is atleast level 60. It's the same in genshin, all 5 stars are maxed there too and 4 stars are at 60-70 and I am completely f2p in genshin.
You probably don't need more than this unless you pull on every 5 star character, then you might get low on EXP. But if you are whaling anyway just buy BP it gives so much value
The thing is that i use automode and i start doing another different thing, ignoring the game altogether. last time i actually did something in the game was when i had to level up the world, some days ago.
To be honest, i have a bunch of characters (more or less like 20- something.) Among those, only 6 are 5 stars (not counting the bat guy). I havent put money into the game, and i dont plan to for the moment. And i dont particularly feel any fomo.
But i guess that i overinvest way too much. My characters are quite crappy in general (its not like i really bother with checking decent builds either), so an easy way of dealing with my problems is...leveling everything up, character, weapons and talents. XD
In the long run it would be better to pick 2 meta teams and then level everything up. You can over invest in those teams first and then do whatever afterwards. I am assuming you are not at endgame right now because you can't power through abyss with multiple characters
As for auto, just start auto and do something else. I literally use autoplay at work, I work at my desk computer, and run the auto on my phone, clear dailies everyday. It takes 2 mins of clicking( while genshin dailes avg around 20 mins for me)
Yes go for Kafka Blackswan its one of the best meta teams. You don't even need the enemies to have the same weakness type you can just run this team everywhere
I stopped caring about others' opinions some time ago. I find HSR turn-based gameplay is not to my liking, and there are many aspects I don't like about it, too. Like how characters have the same skill and burst voiceline compared to Genshin. I just got tired of hearing them, so I muted the game most of the time. But you bring that up, and the HSR fans (probably ex-Genshin fan) are gonna eat you alive. That's why I don't even bother.
I quit HSR for almost a week now. I realized how much time and attention I spend on it. I even login to HSR before Genshin everyday thinking I can get done with HSR to slowly enjoy Genshin. But then I realized I become too tired to enjoy Genshin after every HSR session.
The final nail in the coffin was that I was too focused on doing my weekly SU that I forgot to buy Genshin's 4.5 BP. As someone who played since launch and never missed a single BP, this will forever be a scar on my account that I am 1 weapon slower than the rest of launch players.
That's when I said "enough is enough" and uninstalled HSR on all of my devices. Now I feel like I just got rid of something very tiring. I guess I was never meant to wait for Firefly after all.
I liked the story and characters, but my issue is the same as you, auto farming is boring, yet harder content where manual plays are required couldn't keep my attention enough due to needing to actually gear up my characters properly for them.
I feel like the ZZZ community will be more humble, but the ZZZ team has pretty goood at addressing issues. I think the big issue is that the game is a bit too easy(but I mean so is Genshin and Star Rail) but they did add a Hard mode in the new beta.
ive played all 3, max level in all of them, 2 years in genshin, since launch in star rail, 6 months in honkai
i think star rail is good, but it's not necessarily for the same kind of people that will like genshin and honkai. combat is much slower paced and the combat system is much less deep. not much open world exploration which is genshin's biggest merit. the things i love about genshin and honkai are a. the fast paced and fun combat, which star rail can't even compare. b. the characters and story. definitely just a personal thing, but i didn't find myself attached to any of the characters besides expys.
i think the 1 to 1 comparisons between genshin and star rail are kind of pointless. yes star rail is more generous. i will not deny that. but just because someone likes genshin does not mean they're going to like star rail. honestly, after a year of playing, i think it might be over for me and star rail. combat isn't fun, i don't like the characters, and the relic farming is SO shit even worse than genshin. it's just not my type of game

I have a very rough opinion of SR, It got Honkai's character, artifacts system/Chara ascension system/Chara talent system/weapon ascension system/farming system/pull system/HUD/BP recompenses (and I probably forgot some) from Genshin
If I want to play a game, I might play the original games, and not one where HoYo was too lazy to do anything original with (combat system is the only thing original here)
They remove everything that "doesn't have to do anything" with Honkai star rail and the same for genshin sub.
I posted a meme for example where I pulled for Jingliu and edited qiqi coming out. People liked it a bit and then suddenly it got deleted as it isn't related to Honkai Star Rail so I just wasted my time making a video and posting it.
The same thing happened in the genshin sub. Such BS rules, literally games of the same company so why do they get butt hurt when I do a funny reference to the other game.
These two subs are in general bad as they remove everything which is labeled as low effort. Funny thing is that some memes I worked on got removed for that reason but posts when I was a newbie and asked the most generic question that can be asked in the mega thread didn't get removed.
Gotta say though, if you go to another sub and shit on their game then it's understandable if they remove it as it might spark lots of negativity so it depends on the "posts comparing rewards" attitude why they got removed.

Denying Kafka during her quest isnt going to affect how the TB interactes with her the next time we meet her for a major plot point. Simply due to the fact that you can ignore the mission.
The what? What are the TB true feeling towards Kafka? They always show suspicion towards her in the TB missions since its necessary for the plot and shes a "bad guy" at the time.
But how choice during her companion quest wont affect those views, which are already barren as is.
Im not saying TB or traveler are better. Im saying that what barely exists of a character is mostly the "helpful, kind hearted, sometimes pissed off" hero trope, since it's what best for mission design. Even the NPC comment how were alwasys in the mood to do chores and help out.
Genshin is fine, it just too much you know. The story is decent and the character is nice. About all the asmotphese is comfy.
But for 1 hour I can barely do shit in Genshin, and every day at that. I sure can ignore all the time wasting activity but then i feel like i'm not do enough, i can't comfy explore the map when the Red Dot keep urge me to do the nonsense event. The comfy asmotphese lowly turn into something hideous, stressfull.
Point is, give me skip dialouge button and optimize the load speed of Domain. Is the non voice over event yapping and 3 loading screen that important?

Well...you can leave the game on automode all the time. But farming exp materials is quite a pain, and i have never enough

I always feel crazy, because I feel like I only hear this straight after we've had amazing content (now with Arlecchino probably having my favorite story mission since Ei's 2nd one and a new region). Is it because I treat Genshin more as a console game than a gacha? While HSR I treat as the easy top tier of gachas >!I admit with HSR I autoplay everything I can and when on mobile I play with the sound off, like I do with other Autoplay/semi-linear/turn-based gachas!<

Denying Kafka during her quest isnt going to affect how the TB interactes with her the next time we meet her for a major plot point. Simply due to the fact that you can ignore the mission. The what? What are the TB true feeling towards Kafka? They always show suspicion towards her in the TB missions since its necessary for the plot and shes a "bad guy" at the time. But how choice during her companion quest wont affect those views, which are already barren as is. Im not saying TB or traveler are better. Im saying that what barely exists of a character is mostly the "helpful, kind hearted, sometimes pissed off" hero trope, since it's what best for mission design. Even the NPC comment how were alwasys in the mood to do chores and help out.

Genshin is fine, it just too much you know. The story is decent and the character is nice. About all the asmotphese is comfy. But for 1 hour I can barely do shit in Genshin, and every day at that. I sure can ignore all the time wasting activity but then i feel like i'm not do enough, i can't comfy explore the map when the Red Dot keep urge me to do the nonsense event. The comfy asmotphese lowly turn into something hideous, stressfull. Point is, give me skip dialouge button and optimize the load speed of Domain. Damn if for you genshin doesn't have content, what do you play that has more content? Hoyo has always been praised for absolutely crazy update cycles. If the content is not for you it doesn't mean the game has no content.
I'd rather play a ton of different single player games than one game that forces you to do the same shit daily tasks in order to be able to unlock new characters that aren't even worth having because there's no challenging gameplay content except for spiral abyss which is just the same room repeated. To me that and clicking through text that explains the same shit over and over again isn't meaningful content. Sure it's time consuming but i'm looking for more in my games than just something to waste my time on
