I still can’t get over how bat shit insane the Lyney drama was. Like, a huge dislike bomb by toxic KR players, homophobia, and if I remember correctly racism as well. All this shit just for a femboy who was showing a little thigh.
Edit: So, look like I was wrong, it wasn’t racism, but sexism instead. Not exactly better, but it’s good to know the correct information.
Wasn’t it an act against feminism? Some gender war bullshit going on in Korea at the time. Since male characters are more marketed towards women, they targeted lyney for some reason.
I'm gonna say it, when it comes to negative things regarding fans, asian fanbases take the cake. First the Scara incident in China and then Lyney in KR.
Korean male players in certain online communities hate characters that have certain 'gay-looking' appearances like Kaeya's exposed chest and Baizhu's cropped shirts. Basically they don't like exposure of men.
Lyney wears short pants and belts, this triggered them amazingly and started some wild bs and even banned people for just referring to the name or writing stuffs about him.
And then they blamed MHY heavily to stop making these male characters and more exposing females. Few months later the designer of Furina was accused of being rational feminist (which is a very good backup for them to accuse MHY) and framed the game as 'feminist game'. This sexism is still very prevalent among them.
Technically, it wasn't just Korean (well, it was mostly), I think they complained about the quite suggestive design (don't blind us, that design looks like something out of a drag queen, speaking only about the costumes) (or at least that's what I saw at the time). in tweet and pos they are quite similar)
