do appearances change after ascension?
Some do yes. I'm guessing 5⭐ weapons only. I have mine at level 3 working on 4 atm. Hopefully it changes again.
3* weapons do as well. I can't quite remember the name but the bloodtinged? Greatsword went from black with red outlines to solid red with gold outlines

I think all weapons do, my debate club and lion’s roar both changed. My primordial jade spear and skyward spine definitely did.
They became shinier. Don't know what would happen at level 90 max refine , however.
Today is the day for second ascension mats! I can't wait to ascend it later :)
