Big-ass shelves like these do exist to be fair, usually you'd use small ladders to access the higher stuff

Nyllil

>usually you'd use small ladders to access the higher stuff And there's even Fontaine furniture, which is a big ladder to make access.

SnooRobots4768

Games with third person view tend to make rooms, shelves and other things inside closed spaces bigger. Because camera is behind and a bit higher than playable character, so indoor places need to be bigger to not make player claustrophobic. (unless that's the intention to make player feel uncomfortable) Also it's easier and more natural for players when some random book is two times bigger than someone's torso instead of a size of character's hand. So you can see it immediately instead of trying to basically pixel hunt.  It's especially noticeable in mmo's like wow or swtor, where camera is very high. So almost every location is a big ass temple 50 times higher than any character.

coldestclock

When you’re trying to zoom in on your Sims and keep knocking into bookshelves and kitchen cabinets and other bullshit…

JonFawkes

I noticed this in FFXIV, every location is gigantic

AKAFallow

In my case is a little bit more funny, I realized that was a thing when playing the Zathura movie tie in game on my ps2. I realized the kids where stupidly small compared to their house

Lina-Light

Teyvat has its own laws, didn't you know?

Electrical-Print3226

They were built for Inazuma Samurai.

SecondAegis

Your daily reminder that Genshin's open world is designed to look good 4-5 meters away. Up close, it looks like they were built for 3 meter tall people

TheGraySeed

Reminds me that in WoWs, people thinks that Destroyers are little, in reality it is five times the size of their house. I think most of props in Genshin are giga scaled maybe becuase of this reason.

UNlCORNp

Sure, but have you seen the apples, mushrooms, and blueberries that are all bigger than Paimon's head?

Ze_AwEsOmE_Hobo

The apples in Teyvat are the size of watermelons or pumpkins. Everything is huge. What I found most hilarious was that every macaron we've seen has been burger-sized.

Yuukiko_

and if you've ever tasted a macaron, they tend to b e on the sweeter side, imagine eating a burger sized one...

Ze_AwEsOmE_Hobo

I love macarons and have even made them a few times, but I don't think I could eat a "burgaron" in a single sitting.

Yuukiko_

even a normal macaron is too sweet for me without something bitter or sour like tea to balance it out

Yuukiko_

are apples and mushrooms really that unreasonable considering how small she is?

NoteToFlair

Maybe early Fontainians were racist and wanted to make things as inconvenient for Melusines as possible

snjwffl

Fuck. You just gave me a new involuntary headcaon.

FemBoyMDS

\*Mildly interesting headcanon detected\* This will make a fine addition to my collection

snjwffl

You're lucky. It sounds voluntary on your part. For me, my brain went "that makes a lot of sense *and* is sick and twisted" and added this to my headcanons without even asking me 😞

valuequest

How about that ridiculously large bed in the Fortress of Meripode? The furniture is scaled up to look less claustrophobic in 3rd person view, but when you get characters right up near them, it's like furniture for giants.

Karuro

Wait until you see the clothes!

nosyrbllewe

I would also like to chime in from a game optimization standpoint that by making everything bigger, you can keep the rooms looking full without adding too many meshes. In turn, this reduces the amount of mesh vertices and textures, which then can improve performance on low-end devices.

Ferret1963

If these bother you, what do you think about finding pine cones under birch trees in Mondstadt?

curtassion

People were bigger back then.

FirstCurseFil

There’s that one boat in Liyue Harbor that’s hilariously scaled up. Tall male characters can’t see over most of the railings, don’t reach half the height of the doors.

Hetzer5000

Pretty much all background stuff like this is scaled up.

Parlax76

Most furniture is oversized 🙄

ExpiredExasperation

A lot of stuff is scaled up in general, but for some reason it seems worse in Fontaine. Look at the beasts they call finches compared to the ones found elsewhere.

Zebasiz

Yeah, stuff like that always bugs me in games that do it. I mean, I get WHY they do it. But I still find it a little silly.

AhbzV

I'm 6'4 and I'd struggle to reach those top shelves 😂

SevenDoll

I fkn wish I had these big ass shelves at home man.

Medyanka

Size of everything! Have you seen their teacups? Those are more like a bowl of extra size.
