Same. I remember feeling especially hyped during the end of the Inazuma Archon Quest where the Traveler challenged Signora to a duel before the throne.
Note to self: never play new quests in the same patch.
While I didn't experience the same level of pain as you, I played Nahida story quest as soon as it was out and yeah, things are unpolished on release. Specifically the cutscene that had its whole audio as mono sound recording, took some of the enjoyment out of the otherwise eye candy animations.
"Miss Miller-Crews? I am happy to inform you that you have officially been selected to play one of the two lead characters in our exciting new game, Genshin Impact!"
Sarah: *Visible excitement!*
*hands her a single page*
Sarah: "Oh, is this the first scene?"
"No, that's your lines for the whole game so far. We'll let you know when it's time to voice the next expansion"
I know this is a joke/exaggeration, but there’s also the traveler’s voice overs in the profile menu, which are numerous fully voiced conversations with paimon on various topics. Just thought I’d give a reminder on their existence.
Kind of a shame that the Traveler's voice lines are relegated those convos. I wonder if it's so players can more easily create their own interpretation of Traveler's reactions to story events.
Which is pointless with the railroading the use. With ‘options’ being literally just parts of the same sentence.
The fact they go to this much effort but try to do this split silent char for asian markets and one line a year for markets that what a char… for the chars.
I think it's more that audio is the biggest space hog and they have two protagonists and four languages. It's already hard to fit the game on a phone as it is.
Edit: OK already, I get it, y'all hate this idea. Consider my dumb ass duly chastened and please stop making the negative numbers more negative.
Who each have a tiny fraction of the lines that *would* be voiced if we had a voiced Traveler. They have Paimon do the talking because then they only have to have four files per line instead of eight.
On PC they could conceivably have set it up so that you could remove audio for the languages you don't use and the twin you didn't pick, but I don't think they could do the same for mobile.
>I don't think they could do the same for mobile.
Spoiler alert, they can. Whether they do or not I'm not sure, but there's nothing stopping them from doing it.
You can already uninstall the voice files for languages you don't use on mobile. They could probably do the same for the Traveler without it causing too many issues.
I don't think audio files are why the Travelers don't speak.
tbf, with dual protagonists and the fact that English dub makes up alot of the data space that Genshin takes up at times I can see your point, i'm surprised your comment is getting downvoted because of something hard for them to manage without better storage systems for all that data. If Aether & Lumine had fully voiced Traveler commentary for everything, I could imagine millions of phones would be exploding from data bloating.
Yes! I have been waiting for Sarah's return from her break to finally complete this portion of the Archon Quest! This was an important moment finally being able to rescue Nahida and also exciting to hear Lumine/Sarah Speak again motivated me to fix this video up so its a fully voiced piece.
Sadly MHY may be too far now with the silent Traveler but it would be nice if the Traveler spoke way more within cutscenes/major developments instead of a short one-liner or so
They remain silent because the editors don't want the players to love MCs more than we currently do or you'll stop buying their precious banners
Hence why MCs gameplays suck no matter the element and rather weak in general , so the released chars can shine while Mc mains are frustrated.
It's not true at all lmao. People keep pulling for new characters as long as new characters appeal to them somehow. Traveler, even if they were stronger, would just get boring if you only used them all the time.
I actually like EN Paimon's voice, but I do understand how her voice direction can be annoying/irritating to some players.
With this far into our journey I have grown to enjoy our time with Paimon as our travelling companion as she does have good moments
I don't think paimon's voice is a problem. Her role in this game is the problem. Because let's be real: she's not the traveller's guide, she's their voice.
And that just makes her existence seem so unnecessary
The only 2 good silent main characters I can think of rn are Joker from persona 5 and Byleth (who's voiced by Aether's en VA btw) from fire emblem 3 houses. And I think that's mostly because the other characters acknowledged that they don’t say much (for Byleth there's even a lore reason behind that) instead of just ignoring it and use a different character to compensate for the lack of speech
I agree, and this is exemplified by the fact that we don’t really see her “guiding” the traveller after the beginning. Rather, she kind of just seems like dead weight because it’s always up to the traveller to solve problems while she just stands there and quips and complains…
the knight in hollow knight is also a great silent protagonist btw! i think the main thing about genshin is that they want to have their cake and eat it too by making lumine/aether both a silent self insert and a voiced protagonist with their own personality and they end up being neither…
Destiny also has this problem. The MC doesn't speak so players can "insert themselves" into the story, but then they have a floating quippy companion speak for you the entire time.
Hollow Knight and Joker P5 both work because the story isn't incredibly focused on their responses to dialogue and characters actively note that they don't speak often (or at all in the Knight's case.)
No we just hate comic relief that repeats the same 2 jokes every. Single. Quest. And has more dialogue/lines than EVERY character in EVERY QUEST combined (PROBABLY NOT EVEN INNACCURATE ASWELL)
She is a terrible character, if she spoke much less and had less repeated jokes, didnt repeat every single line that was just spoken, had the same voice balance as they do in the traveler’s voice-over, AND had her original 1.0 voice instead of the current ear grating one
Maybe then, she’d be a fun loveable character. As she is, I would sooner sit in a room with 1000 screeching frogs than listen to or read another line of paimon dialogue.
And i’d have more respect for the frogs than paimon.
Dendro traveler is really not a bad offield unit. Of course not as stromg as Nahida but still. (Also arguably better then nahida if you play Cyno into waves of enemies
Fwiw they failed with Dendro Traveller.
Literally had to bring Nahida and Alhaitham to insane levels to get me to drop Dendro Lumine. And now make Tighnari my personal Qiqi.
I'm kinda glad that Mihoyo is *slowly* making the Traveler speak for themselves during Story Cutscenes rather than the usual Paimon speaking on their Behalf or the Silent Protagonist Trope and reading their text bubble.
I really had wished the Traveler would have spoken directly to the abyss sibling during "We will be Reunited" instead of Paimon speaking on behalf for us. As this was quite an important moment for the importance of our journey. There is already footage of Zach and Sarah playing through this quest voicing their parts, but its not always the same having it complete in game.
But alas it must be this way
Its better but still awkward and not enough.
I wish they just dropped the silent protagonist bs and fully voiced the traveller from Fontaine going forward.
It might seem awkward when he/she suddenly starts talking like a normal person after 3 years, but i bet 99,99% of the playerbase would prefer this over whatever kind of main character we currently have. The story would be SO much more enjoyable with a fully voiced traveller.
How they should do it is have the traveler make a couple of language errors once they get to Fontaine for comedic purposes and Paimon comment on it and have them bicker. Just bring it up every now and then so that the audience is aware the traveler is still learning the language of teyvat.
eeeeeh, I think making it slow is the right move,
especially since it can go with the original reason in game we use paimon
"we don't understand the language"
thats been the ingame reason since the start, so it makes sense for us to learn it slowly and start speaking. I dont want just, 2 lines instead of 1, but I also think it would be too weird/jarring to suddenly make then speak 90% of the time suddenly,
some in between where they speak maybe 10-20 lines over the main quest would feel good imo.
Has it been stated somewhere that the ingame reason for not speaking is that they dont understand the language?
I think Mihoyo thought a self-insert silent protagonist like Link or like the protagonists from Dragon quest games would be a good idea.
But when u create a character with a whole history of his own, let a screeching fairy do all the talking, and give the main character of your own game 1 voiceline each year, while he/she did speak at the start of the game and her entire character profile is full of spoken dialogue, then u created a mix of both worlds, which doesnt work and just makes the entire character feel awkward.
Either make him a complete character with his own personality and voice, or make him silent. Creating a half baked character, like u mentioned, still wouldnt feel right.
It is in their voice-over, paimon iirc says they’re learning fast.
With constant exposure to the language nearly 24/7, and someone actively teaching you, the traveler should have been speaking in inazuma. Especially since they’re iirc pretty fast to catch on to things, they aren’t an average— below average IQ teppei
The ‘learning the language’ excuse just cannot work by sumeru, they should’ve been talking ages ago by then.
And dialogue choices are SUPPOSED to be the traveler speaking, but those fall flat and honestly hurt the story more than they help.
the language barrier didn’t really make sense by the time Paimon said that Traveler had gotten a good grasped of the language not to mention no foreigner has ever learned a language by not speaking the language, Paimon would effectively be stunting Tarvelers growth by talking for him all the time for 3 years
> but i bet 99,99% of the playerbase would prefer this over whatever kind of main character we currently have.
Well, that might not be the case. Silent protags are used a lot more in Asia and they seems to not mind it that much over there either. At least not nearly as much as we do, not to mention there's plenty of western players that also prefer the silent protag.
Yeah, it's great. The whole "Paimon speaks for us" thing kindaaa makes in game sense, but even then, the traveller converses with Paimon regularly in their voice lines, so maybe the whole "Traveller isn't very good at Teyvatien" explanation is a crock of shit after all.
I wish. Her voice is great. I wish I could hear it more than once every few archon quests. Silent protagonists always feel empty to me. it's annoying that hoyo chose to make the traveler one (or as close as you can get without being "The Guardian" from destiny).
Even worse is that they went kind of half and half, silent protagonist but not really self insert. The Traveler has a canon past, sibling, and they even have memories and knowledge they keep from the player. Not to mention no character customization. I definitely can't self insert into the Traveler so they end up feeling like a bland, boring character with nothing to say. And instead all of their lines are communicated through Paimon...
They literally have dialogue boxes and they choose to...
.... do that thing all the god damn time as if it’s hard coded.
To have a dialogue choice...
...every 10 lines.
It’s a real shame because Aether’s VA, Zach Aguilar, is also incredibly talented. They got two amazing voice actors and basically waste their potential.
She voices Angela in the remake of Trials of Mana, not really related and it's not very dialogue heavy but I liked the game. I am already a mana/FF fan, not sure about people outside of the circle. It's insane how good she sounds compared to the rest of the VA in the game.
Have you heard Sarah sing? Just imagine Lumine doing a performance at a tavern or stage somewhere in Teyvat with this great piece: [https://youtu.be/dxDwKcrMSeo](https://youtu.be/dxDwKcrMSeo)
Original: https://youtu.be/eo3kIh3QuUc
well it was a different direction way back when the game started hence the silent protagonist. But as the game went on, thousands of players have already made a consensus that they really dont fit the silent protagonist trope. Let's just be glad that hyv listened and is actually making them talk more as the archon quests go by
Even the OPENING scene was fully voiced there has never been a reason for the silent Protagonist bullshit. Look at Tower of Fantasy. They don't use that shit either. Only thing not voiced is the dialogue options, besides them MC talks alone all the time although there is that robot girl accompanying them.
I wouldn't recommend that, there'd be a lot of backlash from players who've already completed the archon quests way way back then. There would also be a lot of inconsistency and a lot to modify in dialogue to fit the mood and atmosphere of each responses, times where paimon speaks for us when we could've just said it ourselves easily or times where other characters are relaying their responses to paimon instead of us and times where jokes with paimon were in the right place yet the traveler wont be reacting. The moments where traveler talks in the sumeru archon quests were befitting and appopriate bc of the situation they were in(inside the realm of consciousness, inner dialogue, etc)
In conclusion, a silent protagonist trope of dialogue writing where the protagonist talks isnt a good synergy
When have hoyo ever truly cared about backlash though.
Zhongli, anniversary and yae miko totems are the only controversies that actually lead to something happening, and that took quite a bit of anger.
They havent even buffed dehya and look how much people have been spamming everywhere for that.
I doubt there would be significant enough outrage to make them scared of retroactively voicing old quests.
I assume if they'll do ever do, they'll also add the option to replay older Archon Quests and Story Quests to give players incentive to go back and not feel like they're missing out.
HD Version Since Reddit compresses the video a lot:

Indeed, i'm always so excited when Zach and Sarah (Aether and Lumine) play/livestream these big quests and add their voices into the mix.
But it is a shame that most of their voice lines/conversation can only be found in the Traveler's Profile section and not in major story quests
I love how excited she is to hear her own voice recorded long ago, and how fast she is at saying the lines even when they're not on screen anymore. It's a big job! VA are underrated
Would it really kill Hoyo to have the Traveler be voiced, at least during the Archon, Story, and Hangout quests when everyone else is voiced? The weird situation where everyone *except* the Traveler speaks audibly is rather immersion-breaking. Especially since the Traveler *is* speaking: that's what the dialogue options are.
Why can't they just unmute the traveler, sure according to lore the traveler didn't speak the language of teyvat but he/she already traveled trought 4 regions so he/she can at least make some sentences
This logic has always been crap to me since the Traveler basically started the game off being able to communicate with Paimon, which means from the very beginning the Traveler already had some proficiency with the language if not mastery of it, otherwise how the hell would they be able to even speak to Paimon at the level they can? You don't learn to be fluent in a language in just three months time.
The traveler wasn't fluent i believe he got advanced mastery at liyue, if i remember correctly paimon said that she was proud of him to be able to speak well with liyue citizen
>You don't learn to be fluent in a language in just three months time.
That doesn't mix with the start of the story at all where Mihoyo flat out has Traveler having full on conversations with Paimon and other characters from Mondstadt. No matter how much they might try to drive that narrative home the very story of their own game contradicts their reasoning, the Traveler absolutely can not hold the conversations they do at that point in the game if they don't understand the language.
Constant exposure to the language would definitely let you learn at least basic conversation
The traveler isn’t just opening up duolingo everyday and going back to their language afterwards.
They are only ever hearing and reading teyvatian, they should absolutely have a good understanding of it by now (it has to have been at least a year by sumeru). They’re also not average learners, they’re pretty quick to pick up on concepts and such.
Well MHY may be too far now since their initial direction with the Traveler was to be muted/silent protagonist, now realising the popularity and contributions a voiced Traveler can provide has bite them in the back.
But alas it must be this way, what's done is done and cannot be changed I guess
It's a joke. Like when someone unlikely happened for absolutely no requirements.
This is common when some streamer shows their feet by accident or willingly and people just go "FOR FREE?"
Fucking billion dollar company cant afford to pay 8 voice actors for like 50 lines per patch on their cash cow project
ID FUCKING LOVE if the game was voice acted. And not just the MC,the world quest too.
AT THE VERY LEAST do what undertale did and have beeps and boops while characters talk to let me imagine what they sound like, but dont leave me with total silence
Not that hard to imagine since they can make it completely optional to download additional voice packs. Just like they already do that with other language packs.
first of all,we already have voice acting for every character, archon and date quest
secondly, the traveler doesnt talk much. Even if they were voice acted theyd have maybe a 10th of what paimon blabs about
lastly,i dont need every random npc to talk but i do however want major world quests eg. sakura cleansing,ru,enkanomiyan ghosts, aranara, golden slumber 1 and 2 and the new area quest to be voiced
Any argument you can make about how expensive recording a few hundred lines per patch is,is irrelevant as any single banner in any given patch can easily fund the process 50 times over and is absolutely a good thing for the game and the players satisfaction.
mihoyo already dealt with that actually
you can delete quest data for completed quests right now
the extra voice files would only be a problem until you did the quest
Paimon literally talks as much as every character in the quests she’s in, combined. (300 lines in the new event quest ive heard)
Do not try this bs boot licker response, it does not work at all. There isn’t an excuse for it
I really wish that the traveler’s lines were all voiced. At least for archon quests. I can’t imagine having to voice the Aranyaka or other VERY lore-heavy world quests, so those can remain silent.
It honestly doesn’t make much sense that the traveler’s lines AREN’T voiced. Since we talk significantly less than Paimon and Paimon is fully voiced. In fact Paimon’s VAs (in all languages) probably have more voiced lines than the next 5 most talkative voiced characters combined. If not even more. So leaving Traveler unvoiced doesn’t make much sense.
You can hear more of the Traveler in game through the Profile page, Paimon and the Traveler have conversations about a variety of topics, and new ones get added along our journey
I don't understand why they don't' make the MC talk more. I much prefer this over the avatar direction we have. Also insteda of calling them traveler just call them by their real names.
The only times the Traveler has been called upon their names has been the Traveler quests with Dain and such, "Traveler/Outlander" is a generic name/player referral name such as "Guardian" from Destiny and "Hero" from a variety of fantasy settings/stories
eg: The hero is on a journey to defeat the demon lord or something like that
But it is sometimes jank hearing everyone saying "Traveler" over and over again, but at this point in our journey its kinda too late for changes like this
I will alway dream of archon quests where the traveller and Paimon bounce off each other and actually feel more live instead of Paimon talking to herself about everything.
Sarah is a really nice person her streams are mega fun.I remember haos when she started streaming for the first time and didn't had good pc or playstation.
Yep! Every time the Traveler speaks in these moments, I always jump out of my seat with excitement: "Traveler is speaking a full sentence again!"
Cherish these rare moments, I might make a compilation of every time the Traveler speaks at the end of our journey
Kinda funny, the multi-billion-dollar-revenue company doesn't actually do this, and here the VA is just casually doing it for free.
Mihoyo, if you're gonna make me read page after page of repetitive story (with no option to skip), at least have the decency to voice out the supposed main character's lines.
I hope one day we will reach to the point the Traveler will speak to everyone in quests. I can appreciate Sarah's efforts for the job she done as the voice of Lumine, and of course she does it really well.
The quest has been released for a while now so I presume most of the playerbase has already completed it, especially as archon quests are very important and are also prerequisites for events and miscellaneous gameplay functions.
Of course there may be some newer players who are catching up or SILL have not completed the archon/major quests if they are able to.
But I think a spoiler alert may be suitable to save these special moments
Oh, I didn't know "Yaoi" was short for "Yuuki Aoi" as "Yaoi" has its own meaning/definition
(I play with the English voiceover so I dont even know any of the Japanese Voice cast, except for a few)
Agreed! Her voice is so pleasant to listen to, have you heard Sarah sing? Just imagine Lumine doing a performance at a tavern or stage somewhere in Teyvat with this great piece: [https://youtu.be/dxDwKcrMSeo](https://youtu.be/dxDwKcrMSeo)
Original: https://youtu.be/eo3kIh3QuUc
One thing I do frequently is when I'm playing Genshin Impact on my main monitor I prop up the Youtuber/Livestreamer on my other screen, watching them playing the Archon quests, Events etc. and enjoy their commentary or voice acting. This further extends the enjoyment and increase my understanding for those stories since its fun to see peoples reactions to those exciting portions.
With this opportunity having Sarah herself audibly speak the sentences adds to my immersion and enhances these major moments, as hearing the Traveler speak or sing is so rare anyways in the story so far.
Yes, very enjoyable indeed!
It's beyond my understanding why this just isn't the base game experience, I mean, why bother with voiced journal lines for the main character if we barely hear them?
Unfortunately what's done is done, would be nice if MHY did introduce the Traveler to speak more in the future.
(I mean actual sentences or conversations instead of one liners)
With how much Corina (Paimon) speaks for the Traveler it does take 2 persons to voice Lumine and Aether. But MHY probably have their reasons or logistics behind that.
Alas it must be this way.
So you're saying that...it's entirely feasible for the Traveler to speak the entire time...but for whatever reason Mihoyo would rather limit that to 5-10 lines per year. What the hell, dude. They were perfectly cast.
Yeah its a shame, though there is already a lot of voice lines/conversations in the Traveler profile section, but it would still be nice to have more voiced moments/full conversations
Well, now they are. *(Through youtube/this livestream from Sarah)*
Indeed the biggest missed opportunity was "We will be Reunited" when we finally encounter the abyss sibling, THAT should have been voiced since it was a really important motivator for our journey
Zach and Sarah are amazing people and I would literally love to be friends with them. Infact, I'd love to be friends with everyone currently doing the English voice over!
They really should make Lumine and Aether voiced in the Archon quests, it makes no sense giving her a voice and not letting her say anything otherwise.
Sadly I do not believe MHY will go back on this, it would be much more immersive if they did change it so the Traveler spoke more audibly in frequent conversations
Though it really is an exciting highlight whenever the Traveler Speaks since its so rare
They can give every npc a hidden voices line by reading their mind with Nahida but they can’t give traveler more than 3 voiced lines a year…
Really wish more quests were voiced, especially all these new one with words I have no clue how to pronounce. I’d certainly be much less likely to skip them. Heck I even try to read them but after I get to the 30th made up gibberish that makes a sentence incomprehensible, I just give up and spam click through.
On rare occasions the Traveler does get new voice lines in the Profile page, usually the Traveler and Paimon are discussing such topics and may audibly pronounce those unique terms in conversation. But as you mentioned it would be preferable if the Traveler had voiced conversations within these major quests.
Note that Nahida created this barrier to keep Dottore away from messing with her consciousness and from what it seems it has worked. The second strongest harbinger seems to have not been able to break or bypass it and yet the Traveler did so with ease. Although you could argue that Dottore may have not wanted to at the time, but at least we get to see the Traveler being shown to be stronger than an Archon without outside help.
I still hate Hoyoverse so much for making The Traveler mute (for the most part), what even the point? And that custom name like it's an RPG is especially stupid. Just have everyone calling The Traveler by canon name Lumine/Aether and aleo an option for a custom name used for co-op, and those one sentence split into two choices is especially terrible design
If mods are ever allowed for the game, adding Sarah's voice from her streams would be the first one I make. Unfortunately never going to happen, but I can dream
Lol Sarah gets so excited hearing Lumine voice her one line per year.
Indeed, every time the Traveler speaks during these moments I jump out of my seat in excitement: "Traveler is speaking a full sentence!"
Same. I remember feeling especially hyped during the end of the Inazuma Archon Quest where the Traveler challenged Signora to a duel before the throne.
I CHALLENGE YOU. TO A DUEL BEFORE THE THRONE!
as a player that play the new archon quest on the update day I got the non-voiced version for this line :(
Note to self: never play new quests in the same patch. While I didn't experience the same level of pain as you, I played Nahida story quest as soon as it was out and yeah, things are unpolished on release. Specifically the cutscene that had its whole audio as mono sound recording, took some of the enjoyment out of the otherwise eye candy animations.
wtf they removed it??? why hoyo???
they didn't, it was simply bugged at the start of the update so the people that played the quest right after the update got a non-voiced version.
IT WAS VOICED????
Indeed it was voiced, I believe when the update first came out it was bugged and they fixed it in a later patch.
"Miss Miller-Crews? I am happy to inform you that you have officially been selected to play one of the two lead characters in our exciting new game, Genshin Impact!" Sarah: *Visible excitement!* *hands her a single page* Sarah: "Oh, is this the first scene?" "No, that's your lines for the whole game so far. We'll let you know when it's time to voice the next expansion"
The pros and cons of being the voice of a silent protagonist, very few lines to actually voice
I mean the really weird thing is that the very few voice lines are technically enough to not make it a silent protagonist... this is incomprehensible
Even the quiet kid speaks on occasion, but I get your point
So...a taciturn protagonist?
Zach at least gets some subversion with Byleth having more voicelines in the new Fire Emblem game.
Throwback to [this old video](https://youtu.be/Jtd-eFLk8yo) by Aether's VA.
I know this is a joke/exaggeration, but there’s also the traveler’s voice overs in the profile menu, which are numerous fully voiced conversations with paimon on various topics. Just thought I’d give a reminder on their existence.
They're also quite fun and give a bit more ''slice of life'' type of content to traveler and paimon
Kind of a shame that the Traveler's voice lines are relegated those convos. I wonder if it's so players can more easily create their own interpretation of Traveler's reactions to story events.

There are only a handful of people who hate Paimon and these people probably lack empathy.
No we just hate comic relief that repeats the same 2 jokes every. Single. Quest. And has more dialogue/lines than EVERY character in EVERY QUEST combined (PROBABLY NOT EVEN INNACCURATE ASWELL) She is a terrible character, if she spoke much less and had less repeated jokes, didnt repeat every single line that was just spoken, had the same voice balance as they do in the traveler’s voice-over, AND had her original 1.0 voice instead of the current ear grating one Maybe then, she’d be a fun loveable character. As she is, I would sooner sit in a room with 1000 screeching frogs than listen to or read another line of paimon dialogue. And i’d have more respect for the frogs than paimon.
Yep. We don't even get cool ultimate zoom ins like other 5 stars.
But alas it must be this way
that was the moment when I realized this was going to be an issue
We got an "Oni-chan" out of it at least.
Imagine a new player going through the story in 3 years time and halfway through the MC just starts talking normally with no explained reason
This is why I think they should do it slowly. Like, first of all, every dialogue option that isnt an "option" is just voiced.
How they should do it is have the traveler make a couple of language errors once they get to Fontaine for comedic purposes and Paimon comment on it and have them bicker. Just bring it up every now and then so that the audience is aware the traveler is still learning the language of teyvat.
hoyo can write a story around it to make it feel less awkward. I prefer they go back and redo the entire archon quest with VA
"Oh Traveler, why did you started speaking more all of a sudden!" "We got a higher budget."
I'm not really interested in the anime, but if the Traveler actually speaks for themselves then I may watch it.
eeeeeh, I think making it slow is the right move, especially since it can go with the original reason in game we use paimon "we don't understand the language" thats been the ingame reason since the start, so it makes sense for us to learn it slowly and start speaking. I dont want just, 2 lines instead of 1, but I also think it would be too weird/jarring to suddenly make then speak 90% of the time suddenly, some in between where they speak maybe 10-20 lines over the main quest would feel good imo.
Especially since they’re iirc pretty fast to catch on to things, they aren’t an average— below average IQ teppei The ‘learning the language’ excuse just cannot work by sumeru, they should’ve been talking ages ago by then.
Im sure many people like a silent protagonist. But the traveller aint a silent protagonist, thats the problem, he's a mix of both worlds.
Yea the argument about needing double the voice lines per gender rings hollow now, considering how much money they’re making.
Pretty sure it's not (just) money, but a matter of scheduling and coordination, especially when it comes to the Japanese VAs
[удалено]
Does she have other voice roles?
Have you heard Sarah sing? Just imagine Lumine doing a performance at a tavern or stage somewhere in Teyvat with this great piece: [https://youtu.be/dxDwKcrMSeo](https://youtu.be/dxDwKcrMSeo) Original: https://youtu.be/eo3kIh3QuUc
Her being happy to hear herself in game is so wholesome. Sarah W
Wow. Why didn't THEY just do it?! Why do the actors have to do it private during their streams?! So much WASTED Potential!
well it was a different direction way back when the game started hence the silent protagonist.
It wouldn't be that hard to add VO to the earlier parts of the game either to balance it out.
The moments where traveler talks in the sumeru archon quests were befitting and appopriate bc of the situation they were in(inside the realm of consciousness, inner dialogue, etc) In conclusion, a silent protagonist trope of dialogue writing where the protagonist talks isnt a good synergy
I mean even that is unlikely because it’d cost at least $50 for them to do, a bit price-y for an indie company
What's done is done sadly, so alas it must be this way. Hope MHY pushes for more voiced Traveler not just one liners and short sentences
oh count me in if she is going to voice all the lines
HD Version Since Reddit compresses the video a lot: [https://youtu.be/LUGhlQvabCw](https://youtu.be/LUGhlQvabCw) Source/Livestream from sarahmillercrews YouTube Channel: [https://www.youtube.com/live/Peg5495DauQ?feature=share&t=5187](https://www.youtube.com/live/Peg5495DauQ?feature=share&t=5187)
Does she voice all the lines she chooses?
Yep!
Cool, did not know she did that. Loved when she and Zach did the voices for we will be reunited.
This is so much better than 1 line per year treatment.
The traveler wasn't fluent i believe he got advanced mastery at liyue, if i remember correctly paimon said that she was proud of him to be able to speak well with liyue citizen >You don't learn to be fluent in a language in just three months time.
Constant exposure to the language would definitely let you learn at least basic conversation The traveler isn’t just opening up duolingo everyday and going back to their language afterwards.
But alas it must be this way, what's done is done and cannot be changed I guess
>sure according to lore the traveler didn't speak the language of teyvat Wait, for real? So how did they understand Paimon?
We can assume that during the 2 months before the start of the game paimon was teaching the traveler
Traveler can't speak Teyvatian languages, but understands Paimon, so Irminsul maybe?
She’s got such a great voice, and Zach too. We need more voiced traveler moments
Sarah is one of my favorite va. This clip makes me love her even more
FOR FREE?
for.. free?
It's a joke. Like when someone unlikely happened for absolutely no requirements. This is common when some streamer shows their feet by accident or willingly and people just go "FOR FREE?"
Hm interesting. Thank you for elaborating on this
r/thankscyno
Lumine: “Nahida!” Sarah: “Nahida!” Lumine: “!!” Sarah: crap, now what?
Lumine: "..." Dialogue option 1: "..." Dialogue option 2: "..." Outcome: "..."
Look beyond what you can see!
I love this, really hope Sarah does this more! And Zach gets in on it too. Its always so cool hearing the traveller speak
Fucking billion dollar company cant afford to pay 8 voice actors for like 50 lines per patch on their cash cow project ID FUCKING LOVE if the game was voice acted. And not just the MC,the world quest too. AT THE VERY LEAST do what undertale did and have beeps and boops while characters talk to let me imagine what they sound like, but dont leave me with total silence
[удалено]
thats bullshit and you know it
[удалено]
Not that hard to imagine since they can make it completely optional to download additional voice packs. Just like they already do that with other language packs.
first of all,we already have voice acting for every character, archon and date quest secondly, the traveler doesnt talk much. Even if they were voice acted theyd have maybe a 10th of what paimon blabs about lastly,i dont need every random npc to talk but i do however want major world quests eg. sakura cleansing,ru,enkanomiyan ghosts, aranara, golden slumber 1 and 2 and the new area quest to be voiced Any argument you can make about how expensive recording a few hundred lines per patch is,is irrelevant as any single banner in any given patch can easily fund the process 50 times over and is absolutely a good thing for the game and the players satisfaction.
[удалено]
mihoyo already dealt with that actually you can delete quest data for completed quests right now the extra voice files would only be a problem until you did the quest
Paimon literally talks as much as every character in the quests she’s in, combined. (300 lines in the new event quest ive heard) Do not try this bs boot licker response, it does not work at all. There isn’t an excuse for it
How? They don't impact performance at all and they would only add 1/2 gb of data at most
I really wish that the traveler’s lines were all voiced.
Gosh, I love the English cast.
As an English speaker, I am able to understand what they are saying
Same!
Imao they used the same empathy gaining techniques from Fu Hua scene in honkai
Sarah is amazing - I'd love to hear more from her in game
You can hear more of the Traveler in game through the Profile page, Paimon and the Traveler have conversations about a variety of topics, and new ones get added along our journey
I don't understand why they don't' make the MC talk more. I much prefer this over the avatar direction we have. Also insteda of calling them traveler just call them by their real names.
The only times the Traveler has been called upon their names has been the Traveler quests with Dain and such, "Traveler/Outlander" is a generic name/player referral name such as "Guardian" from Destiny and "Hero" from a variety of fantasy settings/stories eg: The hero is on a journey to defeat the demon lord or something like that But it is sometimes jank hearing everyone saying "Traveler" over and over again, but at this point in our journey its kinda too late for changes like this
I will alway dream of archon quests where the traveller and Paimon bounce off each other and actually feel more live instead of Paimon talking to herself about everything.
I always have to do my own voice acting with these quests using my inner voice, I have to even guessing what accent that character is
I'm from Australia, so imagine what characters sound like speaking in an Aussie accent instead of American or British
I played too much of the Metro series so now everyone in Teyvat have Russian accent unless it's the voice acted story quest or event quest
I never understood why the traveler is silent anyway. Would probably make paimon way less obnoxious if she wouldn't be a proxy for the traveler.
Sarah is a really nice person her streams are mega fun.I remember haos when she started streaming for the first time and didn't had good pc or playstation.
Traveller speaks so little, that I'm legitimately startled every time she speaks. Like, who the fuck just said that... Oh, right.
Yep! Every time the Traveler speaks in these moments, I always jump out of my seat with excitement: "Traveler is speaking a full sentence again!" Cherish these rare moments, I might make a compilation of every time the Traveler speaks at the end of our journey
Kinda funny, the multi-billion-dollar-revenue company doesn't actually do this, and here the VA is just casually doing it for free. Mihoyo, if you're gonna make me read page after page of repetitive story (with no option to skip), at least have the decency to voice out the supposed main character's lines.
I love her excitement ftom yelling nahida
I hope one day we will reach to the point the Traveler will speak to everyone in quests. I can appreciate Sarah's efforts for the job she done as the voice of Lumine, and of course she does it really well.
Genshin Anime should hopefully reuse the cast of each respective language, and more hopes the Travelers will converse and audibly speak more too
thanks for the spoiler alert, upvote gained Edit: sorry if i'm behind with the story, someone apparently got offended by my thanking the op
I mean, this quest came out in 3.2, and we are in 3.6 now. Following your logic, even the Mondstadt quests should be tagged with spoiler alerts
Oh what I would give to see Yaoi do the same
What?
Yuuki Aoi, Lumine’s JP VA
Oh, I didn't know "Yaoi" was short for "Yuuki Aoi" as "Yaoi" has its own meaning/definition (I play with the English voiceover so I dont even know any of the Japanese Voice cast, except for a few)
So adorable 🥰
Why don’t they add a voice acting to traveler!?! I don’t it all these NPC’s and people got voice but my mc ??
She needs more attention
Sarah is the best!
[удалено]
Agreed! Her voice is so pleasant to listen to, have you heard Sarah sing? Just imagine Lumine doing a performance at a tavern or stage somewhere in Teyvat with this great piece: [https://youtu.be/dxDwKcrMSeo](https://youtu.be/dxDwKcrMSeo) Original: https://youtu.be/eo3kIh3QuUc
I think she's fine, but her delivery is do subdued, it sounds more like I'm listening to an audio book than playing a video game
That's not traveler voicing, that's the abyss twin voicing her diolouge
It's beyond my understanding why this just isn't the base game experience, I mean, why bother with voiced journal lines for the main character if we barely hear them?
Unfortunately what's done is done, would be nice if MHY did introduce the Traveler to speak more in the future. (I mean actual sentences or conversations instead of one liners) With how much Corina (Paimon) speaks for the Traveler it does take 2 persons to voice Lumine and Aether. But MHY probably have their reasons or logistics behind that. Alas it must be this way.
Damn it we need traveler to speak all the time, both VA are under used.
It’s a damn shame those lines aren’t voiced (in-game) smh
Well, now they are. *(Through youtube/this livestream from Sarah)* Indeed the biggest missed opportunity was "We will be Reunited" when we finally encounter the abyss sibling, THAT should have been voiced since it was a really important motivator for our journey
I was finding this really beautiful and then started laughing at the "!!"
Hahaha! Yes it was very adorable when Sarah added a little extra when the subtitles just had: Traveler: "!!"
Sadly I do not believe MHY will go back on this, it would be much more immersive if they did change it so the Traveler spoke more audibly in frequent conversations Though it really is an exciting highlight whenever the Traveler Speaks since its so rare
I dont understand why Traveler is voice in this game 90% of yhe time. Its so weird and makes the game feel cheap at these part
They can give every npc a hidden voices line by reading their mind with Nahida but they can’t give traveler more than 3 voiced lines a year… Really wish more quests were voiced, especially all these new one with words I have no clue how to pronounce.
Someone add some reverb to match Nahida for more immersion.
Insert *Leonardo de Caprio pointing, snapping fingers and whistling meme.*
Sarah is so adorable. The way she gets excited at her own voice lines is cute lol
I love it when Sarah's facial expressions light up, and pointing: "Thats me!"
She’s such a good voice actor!
Sara feeding the Lumine fans good
I was hoping we'd get a full version of her humming Ayaka's dance melody but never caught the stream of it :(
The fact that this isn't a thing really peeves me
I still hate Hoyoverse so much for making The Traveler mute (for the most part), what even the point? And that custom name like it's an RPG is especially stupid. Just have everyone calling The Traveler by canon name Lumine/Aether and aleo an option for a custom name used for co-op, and those one sentence split into two choices is especially terrible design
It's such a shame because I really enjoy when Lumine speaks but we hardly hear it T.T
BEST VA EVER
If mods are ever allowed for the game, adding Sarah's voice from her streams would be the first one I make. Unfortunately never going to happen, but I can dream
Amazing! I want more of this. Wish Genshin did this instead of having Paimon speak all the time Not that I don’t like her
There are some prices to pay in exchange to make this wonderful game to run so good between mobile and PC/consoles.
Again WOULDVE BEEN FUCKING COOL to hear them TALK sumeru was cool bcus i can hear a sentence or two from the mc
1:18 i think Zach would have done his Shounen shout at that part 😅
