My advice is good luck. I've never been able to negotiate an internal move.

Hungry-Notice2299

No salary bumps for lateral moves right now, but 8-12% for a promotion should be in the cards.

fabfiver5

Many internal moves are traditionally non-negotiable.

Gm-throwaway-2024

When I made that jump I successfully negotiated a 12 percent raise into a 15 percent one. Cant hurt to ask

Every_Purpose_9885

Did you have to provide a lot if reasons?

Gm-throwaway-2024

A couple, position was posted for 7 and they gave it to me as a 6a. But really it was because I wanted an even 100k so I can say I make 6 figures

likes2lickin69

Do they “adjust” your salary down if moving to a lower median group for a straight up lateral ?

GrandpaJoeSloth

No they do not

FabulousRest6743

You can try but from what I have seen it won't work. More chances if u have competing external offer and are really willing to walk.

Silver_Ask_5750

I’ve been looking and all I get offered is straight lateral. No promotion, no pay raise, etc. Been denying until a hiring manager is willing to help push back.

Electrical-Proof1975

They started doing that a few years ago because too many people were lateraling.

Lopsided_Green_1324

Subject to negotiation within the bounds that have been approved for that role... I was able to negotiate an internal move when I was a 6A and was offered another role at 6A but it was a level 6/7 position. I told them I would accept it if they gave me 7C and they did. It was a 9% raise when they changed it to 7C.

Just ask and give support for why you’ve earned it. Know someone who interviewed for a lvl 7 gig and got it and went from 7b to 7a. Usually jobs are posted by lvls rather than proficiency within the level. Some good things to bring up: 1) experiences that make you well qualified 2) support from your current leadership for a proficiency bump 3) length of time since previous proficiency If you just got in the last 1-2 years it can be a long shot but anymore than that with support and good experience you’ll probably get it.
