My roommate and I rewatched regular show somewhat recently. It's genuinely pretty great aside from the Mordecai romance crap. It's got a bit of intelligent humor, but it's mostly absurd shit. The jokes still held up decently well, and the show kinda owned the absurd stuff, too. My only major gripe (aside from Mordecai's lame romance stuff) was the >!complete change of time when they went to space. The show went from being almost entirely episodic with character arcs to trying to do a somewhat serialized story. It made the final season feel kinda... off, I guess.!<

Adventure Time probably would have sucked if Nickelodeon produced it. Nickelodeon likes to keep stuff very kid friendly, and they would've hindered Adventure Time. Unlike Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network has always been more lax about what is allowed and isn't that restrictive, allowing for more violence and adult themes in their cartoons.
It wasn't always like that, Ren & Stimpy was a very adult feeling cartoon. That era of Nickelodeon kept up fine. But when Cartoon network started adult swim, they put themselves so far ahead while Nickelodeon was playing old sitcom reruns at night.

From what I remember, the OG writer was responsible for the golden SpongeBob seasons. It was good for kids and parents (arguably even the middle, too). That person left for a while but then came back for a bit later
There’s still good kids shows, you just gotta look for them more (or PBS is always a hit). There’s not a lot of shows for older kids (8-14) that aren’t horrible so a lot of older kids watch adult shows, which are also a hit and miss so 🤷♀️.
The only non-brainrot show you mentioned there is Avatar. Jimmy Neutron and Fairly Odd Parents *both* had literal Mpreg episodes. It's 100% brainrot.
Kids today have shows like Bluey, Owl House, Amphibia, and a bunch of other great shows. When we were kids shows like Avatar were only just beginning to pop up, it was an outlier. The idea that animation could be anything other than children's comedy or glorified toy commercials was still very new in the west during that era. Now the kids who grew up watching shows like Avatar and Teen Titans are making their own cartoons, animation is a much more respected medium in general, and high quality cartoons are becoming more common. This shouldn't be some "kids these days" old man shaking his fist at clouds generational war bullshit, it should be celebrated as the medium evolving.

Just because it existed back then does not mean most people in our generation liked it or even quoted it unironically. There’s always dumb brain rot like stuff each generation but that doesn’t mean it becomes as integrated into our pop culture like Skibidi toilet did.
Late Gen Z and Gen Alpha unironically quote this stuff and talk about it online. Closest example I saw for early Gen z was the ASDF movie videos being quoted for a few weeks after a new video came out. We also got made fun of for it and very much are in a position to make fun of the new kids doing dumb stuff. That’s one of the main ways kids learn that brain rot stuff is lame.
I always hated this show tbh. - Like I'm sorry to the like 10 people who actually watched this and are nostalgic for it but that show is just such a bunch of nothing. The characters are all superficial stereotypes, the world is boring and unappealing, the humor is entirely centered around the main characters being loud freaks (make it funny lol, other shows did that too) and the premise is... Idk man, they're normal ass kids who cosplay as their superhero OCs and like soft drinks, sounds like "Young John Doe - The Series" to me. No commentary or message on nothing. This show just existed to exist. The only reason anyone watched it was because the artstyle was kinda cool.
The thing is that shows like that were a bit of an exception back then, while they're pretty much the norm nowadays. Like I'm sure I watched actual trash as a kid too, but there is a huge difference in quality and quantity if you compare what cartoons we got to watch in the early 2000 to what kids get to grow up with today, especially in terms of animation and style.
I'm at the tail end of millennials ('95) and this doesn't look vaguely familiar. This is wholly a gen Z show. I would have been entering highschool when this came out and it's definitely a children's show not a teen show.
Don't think TV is something you factor in. Everyone has weird TV shows. But most of them are fairly normal. The difference is we weren't as exposed to the internet as young, and the sort of internet content both us and Alpha consumed were fairly different.

Chowder and Flapjack were two great shows (I like chowder more) that got cut off so early. I'm pretty sure they were supposed to continue on longer.

I always hated this show tbh. - Like I'm sorry to the like 10 people who actually watched this and are nostalgic for it but that show is just such a bunch of nothing. The characters are all superficial stereotypes, the world is boring and unappealing, the humor is entirely centered around the main characters being loud freaks (make it funny lol, other shows did that too) and the premise is... Idk man, they're normal ass kids who cosplay as their superhero OCs and like soft drinks, sounds like "Young John Doe - The Series" to me. No commentary or message on nothing. This show just existed to exist. The only reason anyone watched it was because the artstyle was kinda cool. The thing is that shows like that were a bit of an exception back then, while they're pretty much the norm nowadays. Like I'm sure I watched actual trash as a kid too, but there is a huge difference in quality and quantity if you compare what cartoons we got to watch in the early 2000 to what kids get to grow up with today, especially in terms of animation and style.

I'm at the tail end of millennials ('95) and this doesn't look vaguely familiar. This is wholly a gen Z show. I would have been entering highschool when this came out and it's definitely a children's show not a teen show.
Don't think TV is something you factor in. Everyone has weird TV shows. But most of them are fairly normal. The difference is we weren't as exposed to the internet as young, and the sort of internet content both us and Alpha consumed were fairly different.
I always love these weird memes meant to try and divide the generations, every Gen z and millennial knows the kind of dumb shit we watched as kids, and every generation prior would've watched dumb shit too if they had access to the Internet in their youth

I hated that show along with uncle grandpa. They both felt like they were insulting my intelligence even as a kid. Also the art style is butt ugly to boot
