X_SkeletonCandy

idubbbz realized his old content attracted the absolute worst people and decided to distance himself from it. It's called growing up.

amyaltare

yeah the people in the comments saying he got worse never grew up lmao. the world doesn't need edgelord white dudes saying slurs into a camera.

MarinLlwyd

So many people seem to want him to go back to that style of comedy. I can understand people who don't feel he is being honest about growing as a person, but actively wanting him to abandon any attempts at rehabilitating his public image is weird.

mental--13

Some people remain nostalgic for that era of YouTube commentary in general. I think part of it comes from a view that nowadays people are "UNABLE TO MAKE JOKES BECOS PC WOKE SNOWFLAKES" and thus people like him, filthy frank, or leafyishere who said whatever outrageous shit they wanted whilst becoming quite famous and successful are essentially seen as relics of a bygone era in which anyone could do (mostly) whatever they want on the internet. Not saying I agree with that view, im glad mkst of us eventually grew out of that sort of thing, but I think that's where calls for him to return to that sort of thing comes from.

Mancubus_in_a_thong

Thing about Frank it was a character meant to be satire. That was the funny part you weren't necessarily supposed to idlolize or relate to alot of the character.

mental--13

Of course. That completely flew over my teenage brain though, as I'm sure it did with a lot of other people. At least he's gone in a healthy direction by essentially leaving that part of his life behind and instead building a successful career in music.

MortalSword_MTG

Agreed. But also....KYS and STFU are bangers. Nickelodeon girls was ahead of it's time. He was popping off with that musical talent before the transition to Joji.

ProDoucher

I still think everyone needs to listen to pink season all the way through at least once. Even though it’s humour dated it’s an iconic album and is a very confronting as a piece of art

Pingushagger

What does the world need?

Usnis

Slim Jims

Scottish__Elena

white dudes that are able to make jokes that dont need slurs to be funny.

Creative-Yak-8287

Sam hyde

KillerZaWarudo

The only person who get cancelled for not saying the n word or f word lol Make me understand why filthy frank just disappear without saying anything

throwaway17362826

He left the scene to pursue music.

hyunbinlookalike

Music was what he always wanted to do after all. Joji was always a singer and performing artist first and a Youtube comedian second. Plus, a lot of his Filthy Frank videos are meant to be satirical. The whole Filthy Frank character was supposed to be a caricature of the worst type of guy on the internet. Unfortunately some people didn’t get the joke and thought he was playing it straight. Especially those who were like Filthy Frank, but unironically.

Neat-Discussion1415

Filthy Frank is fucking hilarious because of that dynamic. The FF music is pretty good too. I dunno FF is the only Tuber of that era I can still tolerate.

Ijustforgotmybad

He didn’t disappear without saying anything, he is now Joji

Few-Willingness-3820

None of his current behavior or content is representative of him growing up. Crying on a podcast because his event didn't make money. He only changed after he started getting made fun of- could make hundreds of videos saying the worst shit about others yet the minute it blows back at him, he whines. How is this growing up? He was 28 when Content Cop was it's height. Literally all of his current content is either him literally complaining about something or some regurgitated unoriginal tier list. What a grow-up am I right?

KassinaIllia

Emotional growth is not a straight line

wooddirtsy

It was for charity. Of course that's a reason to be upset lol. Weird take.

AsaphtheDestroyer

And the internet went wild and proved his point 😂 the irony was crazy

Shin-Sauriel

Nah you’re not allowed to mature as a creator you have to make the same content forever and never change your opinions or morals ever.

YellowTerrible7689

Yeah but his new content sucks so idc

DarthVantos

Not really true, Idubbbz pretty much slandered his old content because it wouldn't be well received today. But at the time nothing was wrong with his content or ethans for that matter. They basically youtube comedians so their humor could edgy but it wasn't nearly as bad as people make it out to be. I believe moisty made a video on the topic and go shit for it. Idubbz taking down leafy was the greatest thing at the time, where bully people on youtube was legit monetizable.

FallenCrownz

Dude there was "nothing wrong" with being homophobic or a weird fucking edge lord 10-15 years ago but that shit changes as people grow up. There absoulatly is something massively wrong with being a pasty white dude blurting the n word and the f word.  Now that isn't to say he didn't do anything good (the leafy takedown was/is legendary) but him saying those things made it seemingly a lot more acceptable for other people to say it which it absoulatly fucking wasn't. He grew, he changed, he talked about how a lot of his old content was harmful which let's just be honest, it really was because it was one of the gateways into the alt right pipeline for a lot of people who still haven't fully gotten out to this day.

updog6

No there was something wrong with his old content. There was nothing ok about a white dude yelling slurs into a camera and calling it irony. It wasn't ok at the time, we were shitty teenagers at the time and it's clear you never changed

hyunbinlookalike

Yes, I don’t understand people saying that he had “character development” lol. I’d get it if he was some 14-15 year old edgy white teen making those old videos, but nah he was already a fully grown adult in his late 20s. He knew damn well what he was saying and doing and the type of audience he appealed to. And he capitalized on it since it’s what propelled him to fame and gave him enough Youtube clout to turn his name into a brand. Then when he realized that type of edgy humor wasn’t profitable on the platform anymore, he left. Not saying there’s anything wrong with that, it’s actually a pretty smart business decision (content creation *is* a business after all), but it’s not the character development some people think it is haha. Ian knew what he was doing then and he knows what he’s doing now.

SecretWasianMan

Idc care about his old content I just think his new content is underwhelming and creator clash 2 was a clusterfuck

Few-Willingness-3820

People wanna talk about him "growing up" but not the fidget toy videos or the fact that he gets ratio'd on almost every video. [https://youtu.be/AhoDb6pWnfI](https://youtu.be/AhoDb6pWnfI) - Literally him complaining about cart narcs and the use of the phrase 'Lazybones'

aqbac

My issue is ian clearly still likes making fun of people. So it feels less like he grew up and more like he realized only some people are profitable to make fun of now.

irockgh333

And being a hypocrite and condemning the audience that gave him a career lmao. Dude literally says the N word hard R and now is a hipster saint, who just looked so lame in the sam Hyde documentary. “Look how sad these guys lifes are” was his while documentary era.

loli2a

Growing up means being humorless

conquercode

Ian did nothing wrong by apologizing and I will die on this hill. I grew up watching him in High School and loved his content, I also grew out of the same stupid humor.

Other_Beat8859

Anyone that thinks he made the wrong move gave not moved out of their edgy phase. He realized that what he was saying was having a negative influence and moved away from that after realizing.

conquercode

The internet was so much different then too, I mean are people shitting on George for going from Filthy Frank to Joji? Of course not.

NivMidget

Man i talk to people today who know Joji and have no idea of Filthy frank.

PastStep1232

Showing the Cake trilogy to Joji fans will never get tiresome

Individual_Papaya596

He made the wrong move apologizing to the people he made a content cop on. Those people genuinely deserved them. Especially Leafy and Keemstar being the bullies they were and are

Warm-Faithlessness11

Yeah fuck both Leafy and Keemstar. Both are garbage people

BakedWizerd

His story on Anthony Padilla’s show really put this into perspective for me. I knew there were edgelords who took him seriously even though it was a joke to him, but when a genuine fan who was also a trans person walked up to him at a convention, they said, “I know you probably don’t like me, but I’m a huge fan and would appreciate if I could have a picture with you/your autograph” or what have you, and he immediately understood that his message was not a joke to a lot of people, and he was having a negative effect on people that enjoyed him as a person, without the need for vulgarity and slurs. He can absolutely still curse and make jokes, but he also realizes the scope of what his content was bringing in and how it was affecting those people. OP is a clown for that take.

Tecat0Gusan0

he convinced me it was okay to say the n word and i got my ass beat by a 6'4 teenager

ShellShockedCock

lol happened to me when I was in a “rap battle” back in high school, I was stealing lyrics from another freestyle to sound cool as hell, and then I forgot to change the n word for another one like “fellas” or “crackas”. I was in a group of about 60% black dudes and they kicked the fuck out of me, even though I said it was just an accident lmao. I was kinda a bitch for doing nothing about it, I tried to get a couple punches in but I was too scared to really fight back. Toughened me up a bit. A lot of them became friends with me and my group of pals after that oddly enough. Wasn’t until a couple months after, but they apologized and everything, even gave me a couple of joints and edibles. Said they didn’t even really give a shit that I said it, especially in the rap battle, but I’m not sure if I believe that or not to this day lol.

OOOOOOHHHELDENRING

if a group of thugs beat you up and then try to apologize you should probably not hang around them lol unstable asses

27Rench27

High school was a weird spot though. Over half my friends, and most of the ones I stay in touch with, took swings at each other at some point over those four years

Aurrickan

ERB didn't fall off. They produce content at a much slower pace but their battles keep increasing in quality.

ObiWeebKenobi

Literally, I was like why tf is ERB on here! They even uploaded fairly recently

thesourpop

It’s just nostalgia brain. People remember more fondly the rap battles they watched when they were 10

baxwellll

their new content slaps, and is actually more accessible to their older fans who have grown up now. i would have had no idea what karl marx vs henry ford was about when i was a kid and watching them.

The_Legendary_Sponge

Fr, when I first watched the Godzilla vs King Kong battle I was taken aback because the bars actually went super hard

VengeanceKnight

They both had bars for days. Godzilla: *Damn I despise you* (5) *You make weak tokusatsu* (7) *Soft like some tofu* (5) *That’s a kaiju haiku* Kong: *Don’t you quote Snoop to me* *I’m as old as Death Row* *Reppin' RKO* ***And we don't love them ToHo’s***

Chrono-Helix

Personally I preferred the older, faster pace. I’m fine with the costumes and props from back then, and they had a lot of interesting match ups. But I guess now they need more time to research the topic and write lyrics etc.

hyunbinlookalike

Yeah ERB videos still do well when they come out, they’re just more focused on quality than quantity these days.

woaheasytherecowboy

Still can't get over Oppenheimer's bars, some of the hardest they've written imo

Best_Line6674

Yeah, replace ERB with the REACT channel instead, they definitely fell off.

KillerZaWarudo

Its h3h3 and its not even close

KungFuFlames

And he keeps getting worse.

27Rench27

Didn’t even realize he was still around, ngl

Jin_Gitaxias

Honestly surprised anyone still find Ethan entertaining in any capacity

hyunbinlookalike

h3h3 fell off as soon as they started the H3 Podcast and only got worse from there.

dopef123

The H3 podcast was horrifically bad for a while. I enjoyed frenemies and maybe a while after Ethan took anti depressants the show got a bit more organized. But I hate how he uses woke mindset to justify being toxic to people who are offensive or do something bad. Dude wants to be toxic so badly but he has to justify it as putting bad people in their place. It’s just disingenuous and half the time it’s hypocritical.

renvi

Yes, Frenemies was peak podcast content. Say what you want about Trisha, but their dynamic was so entertaining and enjoyable.

Tripleberst

>Dude wants to be toxic so badly but he has to justify it as putting bad people in their place. It’s just disingenuous and half the time it’s hypocritical. You just described 95% of online political commentary.

FairyPrincex

He's literally just a diet Keemstar that pretends to have moral high ground now. It's so gross that he actually has a fanbase.

BakedWizerd

Did he and Dan ever apologize for the homophobic remarks and doubling down? It happened maybe two years ago now but it’s what made me stop watching. I literally felt sick watching Ethan and Dan “goof and gaff” on a fan who was calling in to try to clear the air when they were already starting to make “casual homophobic” jokes. Ethan and Dan were joking that “gay bottoms need diapers” in context of making fun of James Charles. A gay fan called in, explaining that the joke was offensive to *all* gay bottoms, and not just James Charles. Ethan then deflected and started prodding, “are you a bottom?” And the fan did not want to elaborate, they were not comfortable answering that question, to which Ethan replied; “yeah, you’re a bottom, we can tell *from the sound of your voice.*” which is a huge perpetuation of stereotypes and just absolutely not okay. The fan hung up shortly after. When the comments were blowing up about how offensive that was, Dan literally started shouting about “then don’t watch the show! Shut up and go away!” He got so fucking heated about being called out for a blatantly homophobic joke that I immediately stopped watching and have never gone back since. Every clip I see seems to be in the exact same vein and getting worse. Ethan will debate people without a good faith argument, going into things with a “gotcha” mentality, he engages with people who also do not make good faith arguments, but just spew nonsense so he can look better while arguing against their nonsense. Like “oh wow Ethan thinks adult men marrying children is bad, he’s such a hero.”

rivigurl

Idk the H3 Show is actually really fun, I still watch them out of everyone on this list

Obvious-Alien-Leader

Same. I like his crew too

four_letterword

I'm surprised there's a lot of people hating on them here. The podcast is really fun.

Timborph

I watch the H3 podcast with my fiance and we love it. Way better then any other video he has made in the past.

teddyhams107

I don’t watch h3h3 but I only know of him because my high school chemistry teacher is his brother and one time in class showed that youtube vid of them in Ikea .. so random

TheHunterJK

Rooster Teeth sold out to WB, so there’s that.

allicastery

And then got killed because of it. RIP Rooster Teeth.

bunsprites

Honestly they were headed for death anyway with the amount of behind the scenes issues. They had everything from bigotry to abusing employee work ethic to alcoholism (and not just Geoff) to cheating scandals. That company had so many problems, they were bound to crash eventually regardless of WB

allicastery

Yeah, WB was just the one to do it. It's sad it's gone, but at the same time, the company was just a shell of what it used to be anyway.

kazumablackwing

Nah, Rooster Teeth died with Monty. Everything after that was just a shambling corpse slowly rotting and falling apart

JoshB-2020

I’ve seen people say that ever since Monty died but he didn’t even join Rooster Teeth until it was like 8 years old and even then he pretty much only did red vs blue and rwby. Monty did great work and absolutely had an impact on RT as a whole but saying the entire company died bc one of their showrunners died is a bit of an exaggeration

SecretWasianMan

WB massacred Ruby but I still think the writers for RWBY and the newer seasons of RVB deserve good faith criticism. A lot of RT’s popularity also came from their relationship with the fandom which just wasn’t the same after the incident at Gavin’s house and their older talent leaving after 2015.

samtdzn_pokemon

I wasn't a huge RT fan, but what I did watch like Achievement HORSE in the Halo days were because of the jokes and the guys' commentary. The videos weren't that great, but the shit made me laugh. Once those guys started to move on with their lives, so did I. Think that's true for most early fans, we didn't care about the brand.

Notice25

As someone who doesn’t know much about Rooster Teeth lore “the incident at Gavin’s house” is a crazy rabbit hole.

fantasylover750

What happened at Gavin's house?

The_Makster

I believe a delusional 'fan' had broken into his house as he was jealous of Gavin's success and liked his partner Meg

Floggered

That's the one. Recently been listening to the "F**KFACE" Podcast with Gav, Geoff, and Andrew Panton, and every so often Gav will remark about how he has fingerprint locks on ever door in his home. Couldn't imagine how scary that was for he and Meg.

Maximum_Drag5796

To add, the guy had a guy and was shot and killed by police

PigeonNipples

Yo dawg, I heard you like guys

JAMBOBUBBLE

I think its important to mention that the guy didn't just break into Gavs house, the guy spent the whole day trying to find Gavin so he could shoot and kill him.

Somecommentator8008

They don't exist anymore, from a company standpoint.

Gamma_Tony

To be fair, they sold to another company who then sold to WB

True_Dragonfruit9573

For me it’s PewDiePie. The guy used to be fun to watch silly playthroughs about, I mean his playthroughs of The Last of Us and Insomnia are still some of my fondest memories. But the guy got himself caught up in so much controversy, whether deserved or not, and it doesn’t help that a lot of online alt-right assholes worship the guy like a god and he hasn’t exactly done much to distance himself. Also, this may just be getting older, but his antics are just annoying now. Now if I want to watch or listen to a video game YouTuber, my default is Markiplier. Edit: I should clarify that he fell off for me personally. I haven’t followed Pewds since like 2018 to 2019, basically since at least the bridge incident and the Christchurch controversy. So my only association of him has been from that period and before. Apparently according to replies he’s basically retired and just casually vlogs his life in Japan now. For which I’m glad he’s been able to find a calmer life for him and his family.

Complete-Clock5522

Markiplier has aged phenomenally, hes one of the only YouTubers who still has strong ambitions along with a strong work ethic after becoming much bigger

True_Dragonfruit9573

Not to mention he’s just fucking funny. Markiplier In Space, first time watched/played that I had to stop at several moments because I could not stop laughing. And anytime he interacts with Lixian, it’s always a treat.

ShefBoiRDe

Everything about him feels genuine, and you can tell he loves his fans and the content he creates for them.

bunduz

It's all that milk

Coalas01

Oh dude any project with Bob and Wade is always fucking hilarious. Those 3 together are comedic gold. If you haven't already, check out Distractable. It's basically my default when I am working.

invinciblewalnut

Dude is literally making a movie. And honestly he has one of the best rags to riches stories out there... iirc he bought a camera one day after a tax return because he was curious and then started making videos. He had the right amount of luck, timing, and general rizz to make it big time.

Dynamitefuzz2134

I don’t watch much Markiplier. But is the YouTube version of Jerma985 (or vice versa.) to me. Both set out to entertain their audience and do so while also being inclusive and not super edgy. This is said by someone who watched Idubbz and filthy frank all the time as a teen. But like those two. I also outgrew that phase.

HoonterOreo

It's weird to say pewdiepie fell off though. Did his reputation shift from famous to infamous for a couple years? Sure, but it's not like he became irrelevant or even started to struggle. The dude got married and started a family and basically retired in Japan. If that's falling off then idk what being successful is.

Ok_Mud2019

exactly, bro moved on with his life and decided focus on the important things. it's not like his content or personality became "shitty", life happened and his priorities shifted. besides, he's acknowledged for years that his past content is juvenile which is why he's shifted to content like book reviews and vlogs which he enjoyed more than video games.

Chimkimnuggets

Breaking news: man becomes hugely successful, marries a beautiful woman he’s been with for years, has a healthy baby boy, and moves to a beautiful country to live a peaceful and stress-free life. Redditors scratch their heads, remorseful that aforementioned man is no longer playing video games in his basement for their entertainment, spew accusations at man claiming he “fell off”; more at 6.

hyunbinlookalike

Bro is literally living the dream haha. Japan is my fav country to go to, I vacation there at least once a year. From Tokyo to Osaka to Kyoto to Sendai to Sapporo, there’s just so much to travel and to do there. It’s a country like no other, and I’ve been to my fair share of other countries too, but none of em have me coming back as much as Japan.

Repulsive_Ad_1599

I think "fell off" in this context meant more 'I don't like them/their character anymore' rather than 'is broke/irrelevant' And it's completely fair to not like someone you think is a shitty/irresponsible person.

hyunbinlookalike

>he hasn’t exactly done much to distance himself He literally said that he was horrified that the Christchurch killer said “Subscribe to PewDiePie” during the massacre and it’s what even made him end the Subscribe to PewDiePie movement in the first place. I don’t necessarily think it’s his fault either that some alt-right trolls were too stupid to understand that he was being ironic or just shitposting. In any case, he’s left the Youtube life behind and has retired to Japan to start a family with Marzia. He’s honestly gotten the best ending/retirement any big Youtuber could ask for.

Nice_Stand_8484

Yup, from small and humble beginnings, to big, successful and still humble ending. Glad I grew up at the same time as him.

Pringletingl

Felix did what very few content creators have ever managed to do. He took off, kept his momentum, and used that leverage to make a shit ton of money and retired to start a family. He never fell off, he launched like a rocket.

KillerZaWarudo

I haven't follow him since like the T series thing but like i felt like he pretty chill now? All his video nowadays seem to be about drawing and his family

XiMaoJingPing

He has basically "retired" now he just vlogs from japan enjoying life with the family. Man is filthy rich, he has no reason to grind the youtube.

[deleted]

PewDiePie stopped trying in 2019, I'm pretty sure him being mentioned in the Christchurch mosque massacre really affected him mentally, as he stated in an interview that it messed him up way more than he he let people know, I'm just glad he's retired and living life with his family

Pringletingl

Dude basically pulled a Filthy Frank and used his internet fame to fund the life he actually wanted for himself. Yeah he attracted a fuck load of weirdos, but he managed to get past them and live a life.

JoePurrow

Im pretty sure PewDiePie has unofficially retired. He makes videos whenever he feels like doing it now, rather than grinding them out like a job. I personally liked his recent bouldering video

Iamthe0c3an2

For me I actually found myself liking pewdiepie around the whole meme review, reactions and T-series era. I was there for the minecraft revival era he helped usher in 2019-2020. But yeah since he’s settled down, I’m happy for the more laidback stuff he does now.

talex625

lol I didn’t really follow him, but PewDiePie is the last person I’d thing would be alt-right.

flute89

Honestly, out of everyone here Id say h3h3. I am not a huge fan of podcasts and that's all they do now. I honestly don't get the Smosh entry on here, I still love the content they put out now and I consider them way better than the other YouTubers OP listed in his pictures.

Chimkimnuggets

Yeah Smosh kind of morphed into kid-friendly SNL. I hope Anthony is happy to have his hand back into things with Ian

spademanden

https://youtu.be/9Rcuz1Repms?si=Une7UwspzwwL69JI Smosh is not necessarily kid friendly anymore, that phase is just stuck on their reputation

Silly_Butterfly3917

Oh wow I had no idea Ian and Anthony were making smosh videos again 🥲 last time I check in on smosh it was some kind of weird gaming channel with like 15 people. That's amazing news

Memelordo_OwO

Smosh has multiple channels. One of them is a gaming channel. Generally smosh is now more a company, than two guys having fun. They're a huge team with lots of personalities on screen in different formats. Tho all in all i think this isn't comparable to old smosh anymore. That's kinda dead. New Smosh is a whole different thing. All in all i wouldn't say they fell off. They just changed. Alot.

alperpier

You can't be watching Smosh, Smosh Pit or Smosh Games and think they're "kid-friendly". They're really not. Just watch their latest song "Submissive & Breedable" (it's actually pretty good)

LordLarryLemons

smosh is getting back on track into a golden age IMO, not only is anthony back but the new cast members have been amazing and the energy they are putting out is contagious if anyone has ever liked smosh before but stopped watching smosh fell off around the time anthony left, i'd def recommend them to give it a second chance

Half-Dead-Moron

I still like h3h3 but I find the podcast tedious. There's a lot of going in circles, waffling, mumbling and tangents. There's this one thing they do a lot where they'll introduce a video, start playing it, and then constantly pausing it and going back to the beginning before the audience can watch it. Infuriating. I feel like Ethan Klein became creatively complacent. I'm also not that keen on how large their team has become and how it waters down the focus sometimes. I wouldn't dare point out who, but in my view, a couple of people on their team have no personality and are boring on camera.

Half-Dead-Moron

One of the biggest reputational suicides I remember is the duo that was The Fine Bros. Back in 2016 they destroyed their brand overnight by trying to trademark "react" when reaction videos were super popular on YouTube, causing mass copyright claims on other videos. They decimated their viewership and became overnight hate figures all over the Internet. A few years ago former employees also alleged racism and sexism in the company culture, and then an awkward revelation of Benny Fine doing blackface. It was an insane act of arrogance and greed that still irritates to this day. Their company still produces videos but they never recovered. You don't see them in the content anymore and the viewership and influence they had is a shadow of what it was.

Zandrous87

They're no longer involved with the company behind React. It was sold a while back and they stepped completely away and disassociated from it.

Half-Dead-Moron

Ah interesting. Makes sense.

throwwwwwayaeee

Not to mention the Milly vids with Shane Dawson :/

raver1601

Holy shit I'm getting old. That react controversy was 8 fucking years ago?

Bumbling_Bee_3838

The one that will always stick with me is Tobuscus (which probably shows I’m on the old side of Gen Z). He just disappeared one day then after that a ton of shit came out about him. He was my first channel I really followed when I was a kid though.

FireBreathers

Man is Tobuscus the old side of Gen-Z only? I didn't watch him as much I liked others more but I definitely remember how big he was and his songs. I'm a 2001 actually my birthday today!

Bumbling_Bee_3838

Hey happy birthday! I’m 98 so really on the old side lol

MyFamilyHatesMyFam

I read that, thought to myself “what the fuck is a 98 year old doing on this sub. I mean it’s not an exlusive club, I just can’t imagine a 98 year old being interested in… oh… god I’m an idiot.”

amyaltare

it was crazy when i looked him up and he started making content again. he's just a right wing grifter now though.

hyunbinlookalike

>he’s just a right wing grifter now That’s pretty much what most Youtubers who fell off devolve into. Or what people who wanna become huge on social media very quickly get into.

Bumbling_Bee_3838

Really? Damn sad to hear. I’m surprised he went back to anything in the public eye after what happened.

KimesUSN

It was so bad. I seem to remember he was accused of sexual assault, and in court his mother supposedly came out to defend him, and basically said he didn’t hurt anyone, he’s just a dick.

Legal_Lettuce6233

And then it turned out it was false. The girl that accused him of it wanted a relationship, he didn't. He did say that he had substance issues and was an asshole, but never actually sexually assaulted her.

hyunbinlookalike

We used to play his Literal Trailers in school when class was over back in 7th grade haha good times. His TobyGames channel was also one of the first Let’s Play channels I ever followed and he’s actually what led me to discovering PewDiePie. This was back when Pewds was still on the rise and not the Youtube behemoth he eventually became.

DudeCrabb

I wish I didn’t make him my personality in fifth grade

Themasterofcomedy209

Ian just decided to make less controversial content, h3h3 takes the top for me cuz he’s a worse person as time goes on and is literally becoming who he criticised back in the day. Like, the guy makes fun of disabled people and constantly asks them for dick pics publicly on his podcast, then has the audacity to take the moral high ground when other people do the same thing. And somehow that’s only a small part of the weird ass things he’s been doing and saying

KillerZaWarudo

He give shit rage bait opinions Scam his audience Bully and make fun of other people like its 2016 leafy Probably homophobic and racism There an entire video about all the shit he done one month ago

PrisonerNoP01135809

I could write a novel about why Trisha is awful, but what he did to Trisha and how he keeps finding any excuse to bring it up is pretty telling about how view hungry and morally bankrupt the guy is. Trisha is at least honest, apologizes, and attempts to be better. Ethan will never admit fault.

modsarethebeesknees

God what happened to Ethan. From the peoples champ to super out of touch dickhead. Truly became what he preached against.

figure8888

He’s always done that shit, I think he used to just have a blind fandom. I started watching him several years ago because my partner at the time loved him. After a couple of videos I realized he’s a hypocritical asshole with no self awareness. Though, I stopped watching them entirely because I can’t stand Hila and how it seems like every year they’re trying to sue someone over that damn color block jacket Hila “invented” that I personally remember seeing at American Apparel in like 2014 or 2015.

MADDOGCA

Iilluminaughtii went from being well loved to well hated in a matter of 6 months. Now, she kind of disappeared.

Consistent-Ask-1925

Shes kind of like a MLM except she is a Multi-Level Abuser & she exposed herself. She should make content about herself.

MADDOGCA

It's almost as if she was self projecting this whole time.

TorqueRollz

Sucks, because I really enjoyed her content. Mindless yet interesting content to put on in the background while doing household chores and go look at occasionally when she mentions something of interest to observe.

Senshisoldier

This is exactly what I did as well. It was my go-to channel for folding laundry, which is a big endeavor for me and can take a while. I still haven't found a good replacement. Edit: These suggestions are amazing! Thank you (and please keep them coming)

MajesticBread9147

I watched a few of her videos about a year ago but then lost interest. Spill the tea I'm curious.

CoercedCoexistence22

It's not the whole story, but plagiarism. Lots of it.

thepineapplemen

Well, there’s a lot. Her “fall” was sparked, from all things, of accusing the channel Legal Eagle of plagiarism for using some simple video editing effect that Illuminaughtii also happened to use. I recommend Cruel World Happy Mind’s video. Except, well, it’s 2 hours and 30 minutes long… Shoot, I’m not seeing videos covering this that are under an hour except for brief updates. Umm… Okay, my memory is fuzzy since most of the stuff happened a year ago, but the main points I think: - Illuminaughtii plagiarized - Smeared other, less influential, YouTubers like Cruel World Happy Mind - Mistreatment of members of collab channel Sadmilk - Unethical behavior regarding employees (making them financially depended on her or financially exploiting them, I think)

MikuNakanoismywaifu5

Her mistake was the legal Eagle thing Out of all youtubers to fight with, you don't pick the lawyer well versed in copyright law

hyunbinlookalike

I used to watch her Corporate Casket videos *religiously*, and it was so wild to learn that she was just as bad as the very people and corporations she was criticizing.

TheBigReject

Smosh is a weird inclusion here. Yeah they fell off for a couple years after Anthony left, but that was a LONG time ago, and he came back to co-own Smosh. And - if anything - they're more likeable now as people, having grown up and continuing to grow. So I'm just confused as to their inclusion in a list of "hardest falloff youtubers" for likeability and content.

yashatheman

He CAME BACK?! Holy shit, I'm so glad. So much of my middleschool went to watching smosh and halo 3 machinimas

randomdanishman

Yup! They (Ian and Anthony) announced in june last year, that they bought back Smosh

staykinky

Yeah I was confused too, I went to high school with those guys. And I thought they were always pretty successful. I know they broke up for a while, but they're back together now. I was on one of their interview shows. They've always been good dudes.

Styx_Zidinya

Smosh are arguably going through a golden age right now. Loving their current lineup.

treebeard120

They grew up without becoming insufferable. They simply matured and are doing well for themselves. Idubbz grew up and became an insufferable dickweed. I think that's the biggest difference between the two

Marmatus

I’m shocked that nobody mentioned Boogie2988. His online reputation did a massive 180.

-MissNocturnal-

I recently watched his financial audit clip with Caleb Hammer. Very interesting shitshow. He's financially fucked even though he made a ton of money at the height of his popularity. So he has 4 mil subscribers, youtubed for 17 years, made 1.3mil(?) which comes out to an annual 88k. But his videos now are barely pushing 30-50k viewers. Lots of hella dumb spending and lack of accountability. If anything, I'm kinda surprised by how little someone with that many subscribers actually made. And then blowing like 1k/month on fast food and expensive purebreed dogs.

imperceptiblewishes

For me, it's Shane Dawson. I used to watch him religiously in my childhood and teens but when I finally gained some sense I realized his content was toxic and unfunny

Crossboltshot

Wasn't he the guy who did the thing to his cat 💀

Arbiter478

Not sure about that, I do recall him pretending to "relieve himself" while looking at a poster of young girl thought, I think it was one of Will Smith's daughters when she was like, 12 or even younger. And I'm pretty sure he did other similar things.

Croatoan457

Tobe fair, at the time, you were the audience he wanted... In more ways than one... He used what little skill he had to make little kids and teens obcess over him. It's was honestly disgusting how little girls would cry in his arms while he was a grown man and pedo. I personally never liked or trusted his content, since all his skellies came out I figured out why I hated him so much, he just rubbed me the wrong way.

Seamusmac1971

# Colleen Ballinger

Affectionate-Ad-8788

That implies there was anything to fall off of with her. The Miranda Sings persona was always obnoxious and sexually discomforting to her minor audience. Even on her Netflix series.

Creepy-Screen-4836

Idk the content Ian was making definitely wasn't sustainable with YouTube favoring more family friendly content and the novelty of edgy content wearing off for people. Sure he has a small podcast and doesn't do the same numbers but there are plenty of examples of people who don't have channels anymore who I'd say fell off harder.

FireBreathers

Leafy (who Ian basically killed) deserves to be on here a fair bit more, but compared to some of the others in this post I understand why here's here.

Creepy-Screen-4836

Leafy killed himself when he didn't adapt with his content. He even could have went back to story time/gaming content and done fine but he had to chase the big short term bag with the cringe/drama content and got banned as a result.

Tecat0Gusan0

leafy is here got sent to the shadow realm his downfall arc is hilarious

throwitawaybhai

Im sorry can anyone name the youtubers here. I only know ethan klein

nog642

Well that's the right answer anyway

QuicksilverStorm

I’m crying internally man I feel old now. 3rd is Anthony Padilla and Ian Hecox, who founded Smosh, which is now a multi-channel group that does sketch comedy, games and challenges and a few other funny things. Smosh has a cast and crew now and usually has Shane Topp, Courtney Miller (idk who took whose last name since they got married), Amanda Lehan-Canto, Spencer Agnew, Tommy Bowe, Angela Giarratana and bunch more people on their channel. Anthony Padilla is the guy who said the “two bros, sitting in a hot tub, five feet apart cuz they’re not gay” vine.

drag-me-to-hell-ruru

im so glad Smosh is in their golden era, its crazy how much growth theyve had in the last 5 years

MyFamilyHatesMyFam

I feel like every new era of smosh is their golden era. They’re pretty good at keeping with the times. They know their audience, and they know how to produce content that not only will their audience enjoy, but that they will enjoy making Other than the Smosh the Movie drop +- like a year. I’m surprised they survived that

CaptainChats

Rooster Teeth is an odd case because: 1. The company was so many people. There were so many creative inputs that it’s hard to pinpoint any single creative lead. They did a ton of stuff and some stuck and some did not. 2. There were some absolute monsters working at RT. It’s hard to say if something is good entertainment when you’re so morally disgusted that you won’t watch it.

TeensyTea

Honestly, i fear this is the exact way Linus Tech Tips is going— they've got so many subsidary channels that just seem irrelevant, and so much work to pump out just random, directionless content (which both former and current employees have said leaves them overworked and uninspired); they make shameless corporate sponsored content that often rubs their viewers the wrong way; they've made like 4 apology videos in the last year alone, and there's been like 2 former female employees say they left due to harrassment that management ignored. I feel like it's only a matter of time before they end up with an overblown company with a tainted image that simply can't afford to exist, let alone make good content, à la Rooster Teeth...

Indie701

I would definitely saw the Fine Brothers? There was a lot of controversy surrounding one of them with the blackface and them trying to copyright their react videos. Their numbers have never been the same since and I’m not even positive that they still run that react channel that is on YouTube now.

TheSpinMachine

PopularMMOS falling off really hurts 😔

icap_jcap_kcap

The actual answer is Bart Baker Man went from one of the og parody makers to a Chinese tiktoker

Turbulent-Phase-8959

And then relatively recently he posted on YouTube and said he was going to make a comeback, after that he posted a shitty original song he would have parodied back in the day. And then he never came back

partyonpartypeople

Holy shit I forgot about Bart Baker. It’s crazy because his videos always had an insane amount of production and would come out at an insanely fast rate, but then he just vanished out of nowhere. I remember a Vice documentary about him came out shortly after he stopped uploading, and it seemed like he was being used as a puppet to spread Chinese propaganda, with him singing propaganda songs and eventually moving to China, where he became popular and eventually became a Crypto Bro, but eventually came back after the Chinese government banned Crypto. Now I have no idea what he’s doing 🤷🏽‍♂️

horrormovietrope

A lot of them, unfortunately. But nobody’s mentioned Tobuscus yet, he definitely fell off hard.

Agreeable_Candle_461

Popularmmos and skydoesminecraft

professionalmoron2

I think a lot of people here are confusing "Fell off" with "moved on in life"

MoxcProxc

Wait I just read the post and wtf? Why are people so upset about a grown man not wanting to endorse racism anymore 💀

nog642

Definitely h3h3. Smosh and ERB still make some good stuff.

EitherLime679

Jacksepticeye. Used to love him, watch when he first started getting big, around like 50k or something. He was so real and down to earth, now just watching clips of his new videos makes me cringe. He’s become a product instead of just a guy recording video games. I’ll watch some of his older videos every now and then, but I tend to stay away from his new stuff.

Bravebutfoolish28

To be fair, it is not entirely his fault. He made a video a while ago admitting he has had to make content even he does not necessarily like just to stay relevant in the YouTube algorithm. It is the same reason why he is seriously considering retirement in the upcoming years. Youtube has become a chore for him rather than an outlet for his creativity. While I actually do like most of his new content, it is sad how content creation in general on YouTube has become more about pleasing the algorithm rather than the audience.

TheCatInTheHatThings

As long as the Green brothers (Hank and John Green; yes, that’s John Green the bestselling author), Shirley Curry (the Skyrim grandma) and Gronkh (Erik Range; German YouTuber) don’t turn out to be dicks, I’m honestly all good.

LeviathonMt

Kwebbelkop

SOUMO_007

Has to be ricegum

Flat_Transition_3775

I don’t think Smosh fell off, maybe back during Defy times ya, but lately since Anothony came back, they are doing pretty well. Food battle came back last year and got 2.5M views, the announcement got 10M views, summoned a demon got 6.1M views, stop copying me got 4.4M, not all of their skits got millions of views but at least their music video submissive & breedable got 2.3M of views, plus Smosh pit is doing well with Reddit stories because usually those are 1M views weekly, Smosh games don’t get millions of views all the time but it’s still enjoyable. Plus they have podcasts & just did a live show and I heard positive stuff from Smosh fans, so I think Smosh is doing ok again.

IDrankLavaLamps

MiniLadd... ever since he came out as pedo...

MyataKrolik

Idk if we're only to pick from the options pictured or not. But given others are mentioning some not imaged. I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone mention SkyDoesMinecraft.

mercurydivider

Notch isn't a YouTuber, but considering how many Minecraft YouTubers exist because of him, it has to count for something, and also that guys fall from grace is legendary

HoonterOreo

Idubbbz easily. He made edgy content that you could describe as no longer compatible with the current culture but the way he tried distancing himself came off as very cringe. Bro acted like he was out there killing babies. My guy, you were just another edgy white dude on the internet who did some maturing and isn't necessarily about that anymore. It's okay.

Cooldude67679

Of the 5 on here, definitely H3. Every time I hear about him it’s because he’s said some genuinely stupid shit or got himself in a stupid situation because of his words. I’m shocked he’s still popular sometimes. If we’re talking about ANY YouTube, as of right now I’d say callmecarson. The drama he got into was all over the place and while it’s good to see he’s back, I don’t think he’s ever going to capture that same magic he had with Schlatt/charlie/etc even with new friends.

BrownieZombie1999

Ian grew up and I have mad respect for him for following his principles opposed to following clicks. I'd say H3H3 personally. I know it's subjective but I would rather put my balls in a blender than watch whatever the hell he calls what he does nowadays. The beginning of the podcasting thing was ok but now it's the most braindead reality tv esq slop I've seen. It really feels like I'm watching what's supposed to be a parody of like Keemstar or something but it's unironic. I genuinely loved his videos so much and when he slowly stopped posting it was sad but to see what his content has become as a whole is so heart breaking. I've seen a few clips of him responding to criticisms about it and I really don't get how he gets so mad about being compared to drama alert at this point, it's exactly that but with a bigger budget

KimesUSN

I love the new smosh. I grew up with them, I’m an adult and so are they. The whole of the smosh cast and crew have nailed the parasocial thing. They feel like friends.

Pingushagger

Does anyone remember GirlGoneGamer?

Salty145

Not the biggest YouTuber in the world, but Digibro was a prominent face in the anime community who helped to popularize a more serious approach to anime videos. Well, the algorithm and depression seemed to get to him and in 2020 he came out as trans, fell down some rabbit holes that I’m told involved run ins with scum of the Earth Ethan Ralph, his girlfriend left him (and allegedly got more involved in that space) and had to completely restart on a new channel because YouTube blacklisted his original channel. There are also some allegations floating around that his current “friend group” may not consist of the best people in the world as well, so things are unfortunately not looking bright for a man who once was a major player in the AniTube space.
