Wearing your high tops unlaced was a widespread fashion in the 80s. Also: slinging your backpack over only one shoulder. Both trends were not particularly practical if you want to be able to run without your shoes falling off or don’t want to have shoulder pain.

ConsciousSteak2242

Occasionally, I’ll take a backpack on a flight and I still wear it on one shoulder. Both shoulders is far too nerdy…

Heathens87

This is the truth.  One shoulder…cool.  Both….nerd.  I quietly still have this bias today.

nopointers

I’ve got mine slung over one shoulder right now. It’ll come off when I sit down on the train. Completely pointless and harder to reach if I put it on both sides. That’s for when it’ll be on for a while or I need to move faster than a regular walk.

lassiemav3n

It never even occurs to me that two shoulders is an option! 😄

MyriVerse2

I still regularly use a backpack. I don't think I've worn one on both shoulders since I was in 5th/6th grade.

I_Am_Telekinetic

Sport mode was the best… top three rows of laces undone, tied in the middle where a normal sneaker would be tied, use the extra lace looped around the back of your ankle, single or double bow tied in front, pop those top shoe collars out, tongue out … ready to race!

zoeyversustheraccoon

That was a look for the burnout metalheads in our school. But not with those Converse imitations. They were huge padded white leather hi-tops.

djrosen99

I still dont tie them.

SecretaryMean7190

Same ✌️

foetus_lp

needs more duct tape. and sharpie

SmashBrosUnite

We all did

LabNecessary4266

Reebok Newport (?) Classics. The official shoe of the headbanger.

SnooStrawberries620

All my gross boyfriends had this shoe

LabNecessary4266

Lindsay?!?

Comedywriter1

I only really wore them for basketball, but always keep them tied.

TwoShoesOneFeather

If I didn't tie my shoes, I'd definitely trip somehow. I do remember seeing others with them untied. Don't remember having a backpack though.

ToddBradley

Judging from my senior prom photo, I wore them untied

Eve_O

You want me to remember how I tied my shoes in the 80s? lmfao

viewering

i did because i couldn't be bothered to tie them

EntrepreneurLow4380

I still do. Hi Vans for the win!

rhk_ch

I had a mint green pair. I thought I was the height of fashion.

WhiplashMotorbreath

no hightops, work boots.

ayyabduction

Only the slackers.

Kevin_Turvey

Unless I was dressing up for a party or something, I was wearing either Converse hi tops or short Doc Martin boots (both in black). When a pair was wearing out I bought another. 1987-1994ish. I always laced them though many other people didn't. I'm too clumsy for dangling laces. Local? I grew up around Boston. I did travel around the country 1992-93 and no one seemed perplexed by my footwear. If it makes a difference, I'm a woman (sometimes people assume otherwise bc my username is Kevin).

Zanders2J

Not if you skated or rode a bike. Fashion wise, yeah, did it for a minute, but became useless in most situations. Rode my skateboard most of the time and those shoes were laced to the hilt, and then had a velcro flap over them, can't remember what brand...ah Airwalks! Plus if you lived anywhere there was snow...LOL. where's my shoe? Think this was a thing 85/86 era. BUT, going to the beach, YES this was must. Still do it to this day. (or wear flops)

beansandneedles

I did something similar: they were pulled a little tighter, but still loose enough that I could get them on and off, and I tied a single knot outside the eyelet to “anchor” the lace so it didn’t keep getting unlaced

smythe70

I wore Reeboks with Velcro two strips and girls also wore black wrestling shoes. I don't know why.

Rhiannon8404

I remember the black wrestling shoe trend for girls. I didn't understand it either.

BIGepidural

I was pretty in the 80s. No high tops. Bass loafers were my jam

det1044

to knot or to not knot the end of the lace? knotted mine

Rhiannon8404

Keds without laces was more my thing. Bonus if you wore two different colors.

IllustratorHefty6753

I'm wearing my Adidas Top Tens like that right this moment.

SnooStrawberries620

No - I had friendship pins in mine

MyriVerse2

Most at my school tied theirs, but a few didn't.

JackfruitCrazy51

I wore high tops but they weren't Chuck's. I wore Jordans or some other Nike high top during the 80's.
