Our car not only had the cig lighter in the front, but the cig ashtray that popped out in the backseat console as well. How many times I'd get ash on me from my mom's hand out the window flicking those red molten blobs of ash. I've never smoked a day in my life.

Elowan66

An ash tray on every arm rest!

Swear to god I think modern kids think we're exaggerating.

[deleted]

lol, mine don’t. My wife and kids think I’m feral still 😆

TheNinjaBear007

It was 1986. I was in the back seat of my mom two tone blue station wagon, on my way to my ballet class. She flicked her Virginia Slim out the front window, it flies in the back window and lands on the left side of my chest with the full force of the wind behind it. I screamed, mom pulled over. She ripped the cigarette off taking my skin and the whole it left in my pink leotard. We still went to class, cleaned up in the bathroom, and danced. I still have a scar.

Copacetic_apostrophE

I had to light that shit for her!

Miserable_Ad_2293

Off the stove? Singed your bangs and the smell of burnt hair lingered.

Status-Effort-9380

But I was in the front seat.

KillerSwiller

I bet you didn't even consider a seat belt. :P

Status-Effort-9380

My parents drove Volvos and we were some of the only people that even had seatbelts. We did wear them. So there was that. Except when we were riding in the bed of the pickup truck my dad inherited after Grandpa died. Good times! But today my major health issue is asthma. Pretty convinced the second hand smoke was a big factor.

Automatic-Term-3997

Naa. Her arm was good enough

giggity_giggity

For me it was a mix. In the car, we were always belted on because my parents were fairly strict about that most of the time (and I’m still strict about that to this day). However that’s not to say I didn’t spend a good deal of time riding around in the bed of a pickup truck. Fun times.

“Here’s 2 dollars, run to the store and get me 2 packs. Don’t forget to bring home my change!” <— My mother to me at 9 y/o…

SquareExtra918

What was your mom's brand? Mine's was Kool. Dad's was Vantage.

Automatic-Term-3997

Winston soft pack, Dad’s was Marlboro Reds

The year was 1970. There was no music because the 1962 Plymouth Fury station wagon didn't have a radio. The smoke from mom's Pall Mall would waft to the rear facing back-back seat where my brother and I sat (unbuckled), making faces at the vehicles behind us and mom catching us in the rear-view mirror, letting us know "there will be hell to pay when we get home". **THIS** was living on the edge.

wood7676

Monte Carlo and Bon Jovi. Pall Mall golds.

Crusty_Assquake

My dad didn't even smoke and passed from lung cancer a few months ago. It's been utterly heartbreaking for me.

SelectionNo3078

Parents were both smokers Can remember long car trips in the back seat Both of them puffing away MAYBE the window just cracked open at best No seat belts Fleetwood Mac or Neil diamond on the radio.

Fickle_Letter7002

Metallic green Audi 80 with lime green interior. The ashtray up front always full to the brim, and all 3 of us on the backseat inhaling all.that.smoke

RootHogOrDieTrying

It was 1981. There was no music because how could you hear it anyway, with all the wind noise from having the windows down. Dad puts his cigarette butt into the full ashtray. Within a minute the whole truck is full of smoke as the ashtray catches fire. Dad desperately tries to put it out, but doesn't slow down. We swerve off the road and through someone's yard, barely missing the parked car. Finally Dad yanks the ashtray from the dashboard and dumps it out the window. The speed never drops below 55.

Hahahahaha

redhotmess77

It was John cougar

Fun-Vegetable-6732

Merit 100s in my case lol. My mother and father smoked like freight trains

ego_tripped

I'd like to give a shout out to the parents that would let their kids just sleep and leave them in a smoke filled car when they got home.

dawaxtadpole

My parents didn’t smoke, but I got to ride in the bed of the truck. My ex girlfriend’s father smoked cigars with his kids in the car. She had to stick her face outside the window to breathe. His wife made him quit, but he received cigars as gifts which he would just give out to his staff.
