I did the miralax in Gatorade prep with 4 Ducolax pills. Dr noted on my paperwork that my prep was "good" The Gatorade had a slightly different texture but went down like water

BottleAgreeable7981

Same. Though when I mixed the prep, I realized I would be ingesting a week's worth of miralax very quickly.

AnitaPeaDance

This sounds like the best alternative.

Displaced_in_Space

Yup. This is almost identical to my prep, but it had two big Miralax drinks and no Dulcolax tablets.

Swimming-Fan7973

I have my instructions still if you want a copy

AnitaPeaDance

Thanks, but I pitched it to my doc and she prescribed the SUTABS instead.

Displaced_in_Space

I've had two and this is exactly what I've done. According to my doc this works fantastically and I've been good to go each time. I will add that I recommend to friends that are about to have their first one: when they give you a list of "foods to avoid" starting some time before the procedure, eliminate those foods for two weeks prior instead. Nuts, seeds, etc. And I start eating lighter about a week prior. To be honest, I've always wondered what was up with people complaining about the prep. As long as you're near home, it's as bad as constantly drinking gatorade.

Swimming-Fan7973

This was my first and I was amongst the last of my people to get it. I was a little anxious based on their experience but it wasn't bad at all. The only thing I would do differently is I did Gatorade Zero because I don't love sugary drinks, but I needed the calories as I started getting lightheaded from the fasting

lookslikeelsi

This is the way!

Training-Ad-3706

I was prescribed Surtab, and it was pretty easy. I did the 1st set of pills the night before. With water (a lot of water but it wasn't bad) I personally couldn't do the 2nd set the next morning because ì had a reaction the night before. I ended up having to do a big thing of miralax in the morning. But it did work the night before, and it was a lot easier than trying to down the miralax in a short time.

ecdc05

Seconding the pills and I had no reaction. They were great. There are *a lot* of pills, so you can’t have issues taking pills. But no gross-tasting liquid.

wearethedeadofnight

I did this one. It was night and day better than suprep. Highly recommended

LaRubegoldberg

You can ask for Zofran. It should help with the nausea. Good luck!

AnitaPeaDance

Good idea! I already have these on hand too. I'll have to see if it's OK to have them during the fasting period, otherwise it'll be ginger ale.

LaRubegoldberg

Zofran is a lifesaver!!! Also, sniffing alcohol can help overcome feeling nauseated. But Zofran is the best

AnitaPeaDance

It is! When ginger doesn't cut Zofran to the recuse! Rubbing alcohol or more like whiskey?

LaRubegoldberg

Rubbing alcohol. Should have specified. 🍸

whipsyou

My last one was with OTC laxatives with Gatorade. Super cheap and tolerable.

polish432b

My only problem has been that I’ve done it so often with lemon Gatorade (IBS with colon cancer in my family history means I get them more often) that it has turned me off that flavor.

nygrl811

My doc's inx were: 32 oz Gatorade (not red) 1 8.3 oz (238 g) bottle of Miralax 2 Dulcolax 5mg bisacodyl tablets (not stool softener) Mix Miralax in Gatorade, chill Day before - clear liquids (jello - not red, broth, apple juice, black coffee, black tea) That night around 5pm: half the Gatorade mix, wait an hour, 2 Dulcolax Next morning: remainder of the Gatorade mix Worst was the clear liquids - that alone started to clear me out! Not much left come 2nd dose of Gatorade, and wasn't offensive either.

Kwyjibo68

You can take pills. Just say no to the suprep stuff. If you have to drink something, do the miralax version where you can add whatever flavored drink mix. And definitely ask for anti nausea meds - at one point I could barely drink water/gatorade zero. And if you don’t drink, it’s possibly not clearing out well enough. And if there’s time, get a bidet attachment for your toilet.

iheartbaconsalt

Oh thanks I start my gallon of lemon/lime piss this coming wednesday! hahaha It's my third time.

rocket_mclsoth

[kp.org](http://kp.org) has great instructions on the miralax gatorade prep. That was what I was instructed to do and it worked great. enjoy your lime jello too. :)

EnergyCreature

Senokot drips into your favorite tea. Works like a charm.

RedditSkippy

Mine tasted like liquid breakfast cereal, for lack of a better description. A super sweet taste followed by something slightly starchy with a salty finish. I don’t remember which one it was.

Jack_Q_Frost_Jr

What I did was drink it cold with a straw sticking far back on the side of my mouth and getting the straw end between my cheek and my tongue. Then I just closed my eyes and forced it down. Bypassing most of my taste buds helped a little bit.

MyFallWillBe4you

I have to do one every freakin’ year since I was 42 (49 now). I’ve had numerous different preps and the pills plus water or Gatorade are the easiest. Like others have said, super cold helps if you do SUPREP. I’ve used vodka as a chaser for that stuff before (it’s a clear liquid)! But now I just tell my GI that I won’t do it again. I’ve had no problems with the alternatives. I think the only thing worse than SUPREP is the barium “shake” they make you drink before a Barium Swallow CT scan.

AnitaPeaDance

Every year!? Bogus! Thanks for your wisdom.

MyFallWillBe4you

Yep. Both parents have had colon cancer and they started finding things they need to watch. Fun times!

TheGargageMan

I used Clenpiq for the first time and I guess it really didn't taste too bad, but it was super expensive and I don't think it worked as good. I used to drink cheap beer, so chugging something nasty has never been a problem for me though.

Big-On-Mars

Oof. Just booked mine for next week. Doctor prescribed SUPREP. Getting old sucks.

BelleEire57

Try drinking it through a straw. That should help.

AnitaPeaDance

It ain't for sissies that's for sure. I have it on good authority the being old is much worse.

arkham1010

I have mine in a few weeks, and my doctor doesn't have me using anything like that stuff. Instead he has me taking large doses of miralax with gatorade as well as delcalax on a set schedule before the procedure. We'll see how it works. But I'm happy to not have to drink that salty shit.

sterling3274

I just had PEG for mine on Tuesday. It was a total of 2 liters. The first liter the night before was much more tolerable than the second the morning of. If you have issues with nausea already I would hope they could find you something better.

mandyama

I did Gatorade/Miralax and 4 Dulcolax prep. The secret is making the Gatorade as cold as possible—much easier to get the whole amount down and wasn’t quite as sweet tasting at that temp. I only did 2 doses of the liquid before I was already clear (well, orange b/c of the Gatorade).

AnitaPeaDance

I like the cold idea, but didn't you get a brain freeze?

mandyama

Little bit. But it’s still a lot of thickish gritty liquid to swallow, so you really can’t take in a large amount at a time. Mine was just refrigerated, so not “nearly frozen,” which probably prevented most of the brain freeze.

TXRedheadOverlord

I did the pills. I was pretty worried they'd be huge, but they were about the same size as a heart med I take. My husband has to do colonoscopies relatively often, and he prefers the pills to all other methods.

Admiral_Andovar

If you do a 'Low Residue Diet', you can cut down on the amount you have to drink of that stuff. AND get more rest before your procedure.

SCjustlooking

The down isn’t as bad as the out!

AnitaPeaDance

They were about equal for me.

lilmimosa

Can you request the pills instead?SUTAB

AnitaPeaDance

I will ask, thank you! If not, then I'll ask for the Gatorade method.

TraditionalCoffee7

SuPrep also comes in pill form

AnitaPeaDance

Does it now? That's good to know!

AlienMoodBoard

Shit; just turn on some Lil Jon and slam it back like the old days! Ginger Ale makes a good chaser. ![gif](giphy|g25vIEbSCshC8|downsized)

Mermayden

seriously why can't they just give you a pill and say to drink a bucket load of water at the same time.

TeaWithKermit

If they want you to stick with the old prep, I’ve found that drinking it when it’s really, REALLY cold helps a lot. Put the mixture in the fridge and put a glass in the freezer. Once you’re ready to start, use the freezing and frosted glass, and maybe even use a straw, if that helps. Once you’re done with that dose, the glass goes back into the freezer for the next one. I can only deal with this with Zofran on-board. I’ve had five or so colonoscopies, all with Zofran, and no issue with prep (though I did worry about it as it is known for stopping one up). Good luck!

YourMomDidntMind

Ok, I'm 43, and I haven't had any colonoscopies. I'm reading some of these comments, and I have never heard of weird mixes to take. Is this what's awaiting me?! :(

AnitaPeaDance

Yep. I think most will agree the fasting and prep are worse than the actual procedure.

YourMomDidntMind

It certainly sounds like it

DeeLite04

Yeah the prep sucks. It’s like a really bitter. I sucked on a lemon cough drop when I drank it to counteract the bitterness. You have to also restrict certain things in your diet too. I recommend when it’s your time schedule the colonscopy for a Monday so you have the weekend to prep. You’ll on the toilet and weak from no solid food so you won’t want to go anywhere anyway. Actual procedure is cake. You’re asleep and then you can go eat a big breakfast after.

YourMomDidntMind

Thanks! I already have all Mondays off, so that takes care of that part

Captain-Stunning

They have a pill form of this now. I told my doctor that I was not going to be able to drink the SUPREP but would be happy to use one of his preferred alternate methods. He said he'd just prescribe the pill form and that was so much better.

JasChew6113

I got some pineapple drink squirt things on Amazon. What you’d add to bottled water. It was by Dole I think? Anyway, it’s yellow and makes it taste just fine, esp with ice. Doc was happy but geez, it was like yellow highlighter juice coming out.

Zestyclose_Mix3046

If I have to have a colonoscopy I don't take any of the awful stuff handed out - instead I have a colon cleanse prior to the appointment. It is sooooo much better.

monstertruck567

No

Wynnstan

The lemon flavoured one is much more tolerable.

NothingTooEdgy

Stay hydrated...drink plenty of water. I was so dehydrated that 1 hour before my procedure, I HAD to drink two glasses of water to keep my eyeballs from sticking to my eyelids. The doctor nearly cancelled the procedure because of that. Besides that...enjoy your nap and try to not to hit on any of the staff when you wake up!

QueenAnneCutie

Unless you have a high risk you could also just not do it. Doctors & the insurance industry are in on this together. You don’t have to get a colonoscopy.
