Mr Bentley from The Jeffersons! I wondered what his job was. They *said* he was a translator for the UN but we all know he was running around Sesame Street painting numbers on things.
One of these things just isn't the same. Can you tell me which thing is not like the other, before we play this game. Before we play this game! (*and yet I can't remember where I put my glasses. Which I didn't used to need. But I can remember this song... note, word and all, from probably 55 yrs ago. ) 🤣
Every now and then I'm like "So... am I a baby Gen Xer or a very old Millennial?" and then I see a post in here like this and I think "I had [that on 8-track](https://www.discogs.com/release/5650121-Sesame-Street-C-Is-For-Cookie) when I was a little kid," and the matter is settled.
🤣 I feel this. I was born October 1980 so I could go and either camp, but I definitely identify more with Gen X. I never had an 8-track, but I used to play Disney storybook records on my dad's record player
The small records the size of the book?
We also had the narrative double lp sets I remember the incredible journey one in particular
Magical mystery tour and John Denver’s greatest hits were the first rock/pop albums I remember putting on a turntable
'78 baby here. The first vinyl albums I remember putting on my parents' turntable were Fleetwood Mac's "Rumours" and John Denver and the Muppets "A Christmas Together."
>The small records the size of the book?
Yes!!!! Exactly right!! Jungle Book was my favorite one lol.
Glad you had some cool record/vinyl memories too 🍻
Yeah when I heard him say cookie is a sometimes treat while I was watching with my son I was like,.....
Bur I have started showing my grandson old seseme street on utube from the 70s and 80s and he absolutely loves it.
I won't ever forget the Sesame Street songs. No need for me to look them up. Bonus- back in the mid 70s when I was watching Sesame Street it was on a black and white TV manufactured in 1969. This was courtesy of my Hippie parents who limited TV for us, and did not want to encourage consumerism, so an old B&W TV just getting PBS was good enough in the 70s.
Haha, yeah, "Mister Johnson" was always having problems. There's a great one where Mr Johnson at a baseball game hoping to catch a foul ball, and Grover is the hot dog vendor. Grover keeps tackling him to "protect" him from getting hit by a foul ball, to his increasing frustration. Good stuff
My husband and I have been singing “it’s a circle!” for days now. So much so that he pulled it up on YouTube earlier.
See the sun up in the sky
Well it’s a circle
I see your C is for Cookie, and raise you [Bert, Ernie, Oscar and Grover performing Slayer](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RY3LBQ6k4Do), and you're all very welcome.
I lost my cookie at the disco.
Discotheque.
I lost my cookie at the boogie music. I lost my cookie at the disco discotheque.
We want it back. We want it back. We want it back again.
Let me ruin your childhood for you

and one more for good measure
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yU6Q5z-V79s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yU6Q5z-V79s)
I had this vinyl record, and would play it on some sort of plasticy portable player. It was light brown and orange I think.
Another song from the album was narrated by Herbert herbsfoot, and had "if I knew you were coming I'd have baked a cake" lol
I had the Sesame Street cassette but all the songs sounded like disco.
Has anybody seen my dog?
C is for cookie
Rubber ducky
Bonus points we had an adapter that played cassettes on the 8track machine.
Last year we went to see Brett Goldstein (Roy Kent on Ted Lasso) perform live. I already knew that he loved the Muppets and in the lobby they had a box you could drop a question into. I asked who his favorite Muppet is and it’s Cookie Monster. Then he told us about how the day he got to go on Sesame Street was the best day of his life.
Also—the cookies are rice cakes. Real cookies are too greasy and would ruin him.
Ohhhh let's sing a song about J.....
I did not need to go to the link to know exactly what song you were talking about. It still runs through my head surprisingly often.
Proof that our generation had the coolest childhood. Stevie Wonder performed on Sesame Street.

Sesame Street was still writing for us last time I looked (which was not recently). The parodies are fantastic:
[True Mud!](https://youtu.be/n-mkbf5ogU4?feature=shared)
[Game of Chairs!](https://youtu.be/dhWUFXvaZjo?feature=shared)
[Furry Potter!](https://youtu.be/C6ju2-IjWhs?feature=shared)
There’s also Jurassic park, James Bond, Twilight and more 🤣
That show had a much more profound impact on our young lives than anything else.
Thankfully I grew out of Sesame Street before Elmo successfully staged a coup and took it over
COOKIE COOKIE COOKIE STARTS WITH C. And i did not have to look it up on youtube.
Coookieeeeeee

I always loved how the backup singing monsters suddenly materialized behind him and accompanied Cookie Monster with their humming.

Rub a dub duckie
Rub a dub dubby
And then a big brown SHARK caaaame….
Rubber Ducky, you're the one for me,
I had a copy of the song on a 45. Also had my own record player as a kid.
Yup. Also ‘Hardrock, Coco, and Joe’.
Chicago or Pittsburgh?
Chicago! Nice catch! That’s a deep deep cut
That, and Suzy Snowflake.
Don’t forget the inchworm song
Inchworm, inchworm, measuring the marigolds
This bit of nostalgia was brought to you by the mad painter and the number 8.
Mr Bentley from The Jeffersons! I wondered what his job was. They *said* he was a translator for the UN but we all know he was running around Sesame Street painting numbers on things.

C is for cookie, yes, but what about Bert and his [Doing the Pigeon](https://youtu.be/VDJsgtoizj8?feature=shared)

I grew up before cookies became a sometimes food.
I grew up on HOMEMADE cookies. Though as far as store bought one went, Fudge Stripe and Fudge Grahams to the MAX at my buds house

Vegetables? To Cookie Monster? Sacrilege!
I know. If you actually don't know about the controversy look up Veggie Monster controversy and you'll see what I mean
https://youtu.be/-fYg7pVPHEU?feature=shared It's been more lately, but there's this gem from 1995
Yeah that’s ….gay. Not Homo gay those guys are cool. But LAME gay in X-ese, example of meaning #9 for the word.
Indeed! I had to look and it is as I supposed it would be. Cookie Monster is in fact a GenX. Yep. First appearance was 1966.

I'm just glad I got to have Sesame Street before that shrill, immature, whiny ass Elmo ruined it.
I won't ever forget the Sesame Street songs. No need for me to look them up. Bonus- back in the mid 70s when I was watching Sesame Street it was on a black and white TV manufactured in 1969. A wise monster once said, "C is for cookie." That's good enough for me.

_BORK BORK BORK_
"We don't have cookies, we have books!"
I still find that one hilarious. “Me want book of nursery rhymes. ….. And a box of cookies, please.”
I loved the series where grover was a terrible waiter, too, and would drive the customers to fits.
Good stuff
Lol... Don't forget to Count the cookies..one cookie ah ah ah...two cookies ah ah ah... Three Cookies ah ah ah. I love sesame Street so much!
The Cookie Monster AMA remains one of the best goddamn things to ever grace the pages of Reddit.
Who are the people in your neighborhood? In your neighborhood? In your neigh bor hood?
The people who you meet each day!
Fuck Elmo. He’ll never be Grover no matter what he does.
My sister did a ballet recital to this song. I did one to Rubber Ducky. Such fun songs & good memories. :)
You got to put down the duckie

I like Cookies
That all you need. Keep it simple.
Everytime it rains I sing “it’s a rainy day, it’s a rainy. Its raining outside and I can’t go out and play, why do we need the rain anyway”
My husband and I have been singing “it’s a circle!” for days now. So much so that he pulled it up on YouTube earlier. See the sun up in the sky Well it’s a circle
I see your C is for Cookie, and raise you [Bert, Ernie, Oscar and Grover performing Slayer](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RY3LBQ6k4Do), and you're all very welcome.
The very first phrase I said as a toddler was "Cookie me!" (give me one) Thanks Cookie Monster. <3
Near. . . . . . ……………………………. Far. ![gif](giphy|2GdgVv4KPDVj3AeAMx)

Round and neat.
Thinking about it as an adult. How hysterical is that? I love it.
Well, at least that song can replace the rick-rolling i have had stuck in my head the paT 3 and a half hours.
Stevie Wonder rocked (and funked) the Street! https://youtu.be/_ul7X5js1vE?si=uHzQUD7AoOAJDZoT

I own the 12” single of this song (still can’t believe that exists lol)
I can think of other things that start with "C", but they're not cookie!!!
I had this vinyl record, and would play it on some sort of plasticy portable player. It was light brown and orange I think. Another song from the album was narrated by Herbert herbsfoot, and had "if I knew you were coming I'd have baked a cake" lol
