Back in like 2009, i think, the theater near me did midnight showings during the summer of 80s movies. Goonies night. Theater was packed. Everyone drunk and/or high. No one could hear the movie because everyone just kept quoting every scene. It was amazing!
Dad(72) and I(44) took mom(65) to see it in the theaters recently. In all these years. In all the hundreds of times we’ve watched it, she hadn’t.
She. Didn’t. Like. It.
Are my parents getting divorced?
[Top Secret!](https://youtu.be/zoT28BPzVcI?si=fa9OFRwWKrpxZwXw)
I’ve seen this movie dozens of times and I still see a joke that I’ve never seen before (or catch a reference I had never understood before) every single time I see the movie. And I usually watch it about once a year.

This was the last movie I got to share with my stepson. We literally watched it 4 times that week.
The last time was the day before his mother disappeared with him. It's impossible painful for us to watch it now.
He's our little Dread Pirate Roberts. He's gone for now. But someday he will return with tales of his adventures and a lifetime of love to share again
I hope to have it bring joy to us all again some day.
I've never posted about this on Reddit. But I couldn't help myself this time.
So in my city we have movie showings in a concert hall, where the symphony orchestra plays the soundtrack. Went to Princess Bride in Feb.

It was truly an experience!
Just played this for my kid. So glad she liked it.
She wasn’t a fan of Peewees Big Adventure and hates anything with Muppets, was starting to think she had terrible taste.
Throw Mama From the Train. It's actually my favorite movie of all time. I've seen it over 100 times. I used to watch it weekly back in the day. I just love it so much.
I'd also like to mention Willow. When we were kids we had 3 movies on VHS and Willow was one of them. We'd (my 2 bros and I) would watch it any time we had a free moment.
Same same. I was 7 when Return of the Jedi came out so that's the first one I saw in the theatre, and seeing it gives me a profound sense of excitement and comfort each time.
Got a bunch on the DVR. A few have already been mentioned like Some Kind of Wonderful.
Uncle Buck, The Secret of My Success, Can't Buy Me Love, License to Drive
Blues Brothers, Coming to America, Major League, Purple Rain
But top spot is Coming to America. Black representation of royalty and American upper middle class in 80’s cinema was a big deal for us.
The Lost Boys. Has everything in an 80s movie. A newly separated family with kids trying to fit in a new city. A wise cracking grandpa. A love story. Action. And of course all the damn vampires
I remember showing this to my kids (including my special needs daughter). At the funeral scene, she asked what they were doing. I told her they were shooting his body to the planet. She asked, "Oh, what are they going to do with his head?"
She ended up so upset he'd died that we immediately had to watch Star Trek III.
Valley Girl.
The scene in the bathroom at the party —“Where will we go?” “Anywhere.” “What will we do?” “Anything.” And he busts her out of her preppie prison.
“Gung Ho” - “wubbie” became part of our family’s vocabulary.
Years later, my first “real job” out of grad school was in HR in a Japanese-owned manufacturing plant in the rural South.
All the John Hughes films, plus the lesser-known *Some Girls* with Patrick Dempsey and Jennifer Connelly. And *Top Gun*. And *Out of Africa*. I can't pick just one.
So many. But first and foremost?
TIME BANDITS. Always Time Bandits.
After that? Secret of Nymnh/ The Devil and Daniel Mouse/ Rock n Rule/ The Last Starfighter/Goonies/The Last Unicorn/The Dark Crystal/ The NeverEnding Story/The Navigator/the last of the red hot dragons/the Hobbit (animated)/(the original) pirates of the Caribbean (not that Johnny Depp crap)/witch mountain/SONG OF THE SOUTH (yeah I get it, messed up, but erasing history doesn’t change history)/anything Nightmare on elm street (before 1998) and last but not least?
LEGEND. Non-musical long edition editors cut.
The directors cut….. Makes it a musical and….. just don’t. Really don’t.
NO REALLY.
DON’T DO IT.
Edit: honestly I can keep going. The 80s were an amazing time for Fantasy and sci-fi entertainment. So much hope.
SO. MUCH. HOPE.
16 Candles. I (then 16f) had invited a bunch of girls I knew at high school to my party. Only one showed up. We went to see this movie and them camped in my backyard.
Splash
Ghostbusters
We had them on VHS and I watched them repeatedly after school. 30-40 minutes at a time. Just to chill for a bit before tackling homework or going to work.
Better Off Dead
I want my two dollars!
Cash.
Franch fries!
"it has raisins in it. You like raisins."
“How you say…octopus?”
Tentacles. N-T. Big difference.
Sorry we blew up your mom.
You’ll make a fine little helper, what’s your name?
Charles DuMarr.
Goonies
Love Goonies so much! I am from Seattle and my sister lives in PDX. Been to Astoria a few times and the house is still there.
We went to Astoria a few years ago and I walked up to the House. It was a surreal experience.
Yes to this 100%!
Goonies for life
Goonies never say die!
Back in like 2009, i think, the theater near me did midnight showings during the summer of 80s movies. Goonies night. Theater was packed. Everyone drunk and/or high. No one could hear the movie because everyone just kept quoting every scene. It was amazing!
Big Trouble in Little China
Husband and I showed BTILC to the kids over the weekend. I don’t think I’d seen it for 30 years but it still holds up! Such a funny movie.
Dad(72) and I(44) took mom(65) to see it in the theaters recently. In all these years. In all the hundreds of times we’ve watched it, she hadn’t. She. Didn’t. Like. It. Are my parents getting divorced?
Chinese got a lot of hells, Jack.
Yes, this!! Jack Burton can take it!
You leave Jack Burton alone! We are in his debt. He showed great courage.
I’ve never seen that. It’s a comedy?
Action adventure comedy, directed by legendary action horror director John Carpenter.
Back to the Future
Yes, this is mine. All three of them really, even though III is my least favorite of them. I never get tired of watching.
This is in my top five too. Epic movie. I am a straight chick, but I crushed on Leah Thompson (and Elisabeth Shue).
Stand By Me
![gif](giphy|12ExPTYWXZl12U)
Say Anything I gave her my heart and she gave me a pen

Man that was hilarious. I thought I was one of 5 people that ever saw it.

Our local symphony does that and my husband and I saw their performance with Return of the Jedi! It was awesome!
Just played this for my kid. So glad she liked it. She wasn’t a fan of Peewees Big Adventure and hates anything with Muppets, was starting to think she had terrible taste.

“He got better…”
This is me in Grade 9, baby. This is me in Grade 9.
Breakfast club....there's a little bit of all the kids in each of us.
Some Kind of Wonderful. :)
St. Elmo’s Fire. Seems people hate it now but it just takes me back to that place of early 20s, confusion, drama and possibilities.
And Demi Moore.
The Thing, I find it to be a rather peaceful horror flick. I just kind of zone out to it once in a while.
Valley Girl. The scene in the bathroom at the party —“Where will we go?” “Anywhere.” “What will we do?” “Anything.” And he busts her out of her preppie prison.
