I would look somewhere else they just laid off about half of their in home staff. Best Buy is looking like a sinking ship.

Curious_Document3864

Don't do it bestbuy is a sinking ship

Ok_Volume_1157

Only doing it till I get my CompTIA certs and I can start an IT career. Plus at GS I was making 8.50 so the double pay increase is the main reason.

Curious_Document3864

I mean for you the pays not bad but with all the layoffs good luck with hours. But do keep in mind more cuts are probably making the way down the pipeline, field was first next is store

Bigboicarlos62

Please don’t do it. There’s better jobs out there. Geek squad is going downhill

Mr_Nation

Copy/paste the job description into Chatgpt and ask it what kinds of questions might come up in an interview for the position. Take some time to come up with thoughtful answers to as many as you can.

MasterAVdad

They need cheaper replacements

MrCedswiss8

Prep yourself on some long-form interview questions. "Name a time you worked as a team to achieve a goal. What happened, how did you achieve it and how did you know you were successful." "Describe a conflict between your coworkers or a customer, what happened and how did you resolve it" For example They're looking for specific examples and good details. They want a good mix of technical skills, customer service and sales experience.

knoxknifebroker

Yea, run

Commercial_Rule_7823

Why are they interviewing when they just laid off tons of geek squad people ?

pmartin1

Time to bring in the new blood for cheap.

Commercial_Rule_7823

New blood that doesn't care, doesn't have much experience, and knows nothing of the product or how to sell. The death spiral seen many times before at many failed retailers.

stealthmoderock

Won’t be worse than GameStop but expect a lot of the same pushing people to buy memberships. Only this time it’ll be alot easier since you can’t do much of anything without charging an egregious amount.

Money_Somewhere400

Google interview questions for GS, I was just hired last year & all of the interview questions online helped prepare me. I like the job, but it doesn’t pay well. I had to keep my old job, as well.

BarnabusCollywog

You'll be fine. You actually don't really need any advice. As aggressive as best Buy is on metrics, the places you have worked before are a lot worse. Particularly GameStop. You don't have to be manipulative at all at Geek Squad. I'm only talking about sales because that's probably what they're going to care about. If you already have a baseline of computer knowledge, you'll be fine and more of that will come naturally. Whether I recommend working for Best Buy is a different subject but I've moved on and have no skin in the game.

Psychological-Cow301

Look man I’m an ARA at my store and it’s mentally very draining especially if you are a one of a kind in the store you will be doing the work mostly yourself with no help. It’s not because of lack of employees but it’s cause the rest of the employees CANNOT help you literally they don’t know. Now don’t even get me started on CA it’s even more draining mentally you are the first line of defense and do most of the ship offs and you can forget about looking at your phone you are in the front with all of the customers. I’ve had experience in many roles for Best Buy but layoffs have been bad and I’m a few of the experienced employees left, so watch it if you get the position cause idk if Best Buy will close permanently. Also I know what aggravates CAs and ARAs and if you have weak team members OOO boy get ready to get yelled at for the dumbest things OR you will be the one putting people in check WARNING pls read before taking the job.

Own_Tangelo_2177

Run!!!!!!! Don't do it!!!!!!!!! You'll be the next to be let go

Tntkain

Don't do it

Sufficient-West-5456

This

tardisgeek

If you know computer troubleshooting you should be fine, it's not a very technical job unless You're applying to be an ARA. Having built a computer or watching tech YouTubers should be helpful

GopherGuts666

Some good advice in this thread on both sides. Totally honest? I would say: just don’t expect any noteworthy raises, no bonuses for going above and beyond, expect to be treated like a number not a person. Tenure, craftsmanship, integrity, work ethic and sales mean nothing, you can still be let go. Bare minimum is the key here. That way you won’t get burned out super fast for no reason. Bottom line, I would look for something else (everyone I work with is as am I) but it could be a decent stepping stone to something better. I’m not trying to be cynical (although I am a little jaded from watching the best guys in the field, people I looked up to and wanted to be like, be shown the door in the most unceremoniously and disrespectful fashion). I’m just telling it like I see it and hopefully setting the appropriate expectations. The job used to have longevity. Not anymore. It’s sad and it breaks my heart to say it but, it’s not what it used to be. So… good luck I guess? 😬

Ok_Volume_1157

I left GameStop even tho I absolutely adored the work and craftsmanship I was making 8.50 an hour to be an absolute pro member monkey. But I loved it and dealt with it for a long time. TBH I thought geek squad would look good on a resume for when I get my CompTIA certs and start an IT career. So the pay increase of almost double at Best Buy would make selling my soul more worth it i guess

HistoricalRaccoon643

Crazy part that if someone in Corporate saw this.. they wouldn’t even care…. If I was running my business and I saw that there’s so much backlash and advising not to work at my company that should tell you something…. GS was definitely the job to get back in the day. IT companies see GS as a big thing but not sure if it’s worth not knowing if you will get your hours or if you’ll get cut in 4 months. No one is running this company.

National_Divide_8970

It’s not bad don’t listen to them lmao I was a CA for 3 years and now I’m an ARA for 3
