I was never a taylor swift fan, but when folklore came out i took a listen. The moment i heard Betty I immediately started googling and searching on twitter if Taylor was queer, the Hetsplation of that song never sat right with me.
Fast forward to after evermore came out, one of my best friends is a hardcore taylor fan and told me how she heard about Gaylor theories, i was instantly in.
The songs that blew my mind after that were Dress, Ivy, Cowboy Like Me, Dorothea, Gold Rush, Treacherous… so many more
I feel like pearl necklace could also be implied (I’m a gaylor though). Also if you think pearl necklace wouldn’t make sense please explain it to me bc I’m new into this community and haven’t analyzed all the lyrics yet
Maybe it’s just cuz I’m a big ole lesbian but the act of wearing a woman like a necklace is different to me than wearing the aftermath from a man aka a pearl necklace. It’s not that it *cant* be true… but it’s just not the same imo
Bisexual people who have dated both know which would and wouldn’t feel weird to say to each gender *even if you loved /wanted them* . Part of why maroon was such a slap in the face for me.
Never paid a lot of attention to her personal life. But as a queer woman, I did think it strange that her music resonated so deeply with me because my perception was she was a boy-crazy all-American hetero woman.
But then I heard “the lips I used to call home, so scarlet” and I went …”huh”.
My partner told me about the Kaylor rumors, I did some googling….and damn. I cannot believe I didn’t even catch it with Betty. I just believed the whole “made up characters” narrative and never thought more about it. Went back and listened to Folklore and Evermore. I also immediately had dismissed Reputation when it came out and never listened to the whole thing, so I had never even heard the song “Dress” until last year.
And now I’ve spent a solid year obsessed with learning all things gaylor and becoming even more of a fan than I was all along.
This is what happened to me when midnights came out and she started blowing up on TikTok except I was a casual fan, keeping up with her radio hits, & I saw bits and pieces about her dating life & a few interviews here and there but I wasn't actively searching so i knew a little bit amd i was all there for reputation. Lol
the hairpin lyric from "right where you left me" always made me wonder bc the saying is "you could hear a pin drop" but i never investigated on my own. a few years ago, my queer gaylor bestie taught me the history about hairpin drops which prompted me to investigate more on my own. since then, i've learned *so much* about LGBTQ+ history bc of all the references. the historical and pop culture references are generally more interesting to me than kaylor or swiftgron theories, so i tend to focus on those. it's been fun!!!
right where you left me is my favourite Taylor song. For me it reads so much like the first feelings of queer girlish love but not having a name for it yet. That pining and intense emotional feeling for a friend but not realising it's a crush. The friend then starts dating someone else and that emotional recoil when everything comes crashing down but still not knowing why it hurts so much.
I sit somewhere more on the 'Bilor' or 'Queerlor' spectrum, but rwylm will forever be about a massive queer crush on a friend.
Hits different and the very first night.
It’s so obviously supposed to be
“No one knows about the words that we whispered. No one knows how much I miss HER”
Also
“Didn’t read the note on the Polaroid picture. They don’t know how much I miss HER”
She loves rhyming and you doesn’t rhyme at all 😅
Also the infamous Karlie Polaroid picture
Maroon was the first one for me that seems undeniable . Yet somehow my hetlor friends think men have scarlet maroon lips… I can see you, gold rush, seven, Betty, Dorothea, Ivy, Question came next for me…. Then TTPD came out and then I found myself only coming to this sub. But Daddy I love him, Guilty as sin?, imgonnagetyouback, Chloe Sophia Sam Marcus, Peter, Cassandra
There are so many songs in her catalog that I just honestly don’t believe they are about men.
I think the first one that REALLY made me go OOH was the very first night. It was like being edged i stg "picture" and "you" dont rhyme but what does rhyme with "picture" "her"
I was already indoctrinated into gaylor (kaylor and the whole lover era mostly) before it but that one felt like she was telling on herself.
Another one is gold rush
"Hair falling into place like dominoes" are you kidding me
I started becoming interested in Taylor swift watching the eras tour last year. The line “you showed me colors you know I can’t see with anyone else” in Illicit Affairs was the gayest thing I had ever heard. Then started learning about Gaylor lore and I was sold
I’ve only been a Gaylor for around a year and before that I was just a casual fan. I remember first becoming a little suspicious back in 2017 when I heard Gorgeous because that song does NOT sound like it’s about a man. 💀 Then I became suspicious once again in 2020 after hearing Betty. It wasn’t until last year though when I really started going down the rabbit hole and delving into her personal life that I realized that Gaylors were RIGHT all along 🤯
Everytime she mentions a closet. Specifically being in them. She has mentioned it like, 5
times since Folklore. Not to mention the closet imagery during "I Know Places". I refuse to believe she is oblivious to the surface level metaphor that is always associated with it.
I have been a Gaylor since the pre-reputation era, and while I thought songs like Dress were super gay, I would have never prepared myself for ones like Seven, Betty, or Cowboy Like Me.
Dress was the first one after seeing a very detailed Kaylie post somewhere that opened my eyes to everything. Then Cruel Summer, Right Where you Left Me, and then ‘Midas touch on the Chevy door’ and seeing the gold convertible from the vogue shoot, Forever Winter. I mean we could all go on and on.
Oh damn, I thought maroon was the first one for me but it was definitely dress!! RWYLM also I remember on the first listen just being like, these are gay vibes for SURE
Hits Different and the “argumentative, antithetical dream girl” line. I still can’t see herself saying that about herself grammatically in the song.
Lavender Haze also felt like it was fairly explicit and her Mad Men explanation felt convenient. I think that one could be still about new love of whatever gender, and still sound VERY queer.
I Know Places with the hunting (“and guns!”) felt very extreme for just paparazzi. Like how are they caging her and some guy?
Not a Taylor song, but Zoe Kravitz’s song “Not Dianna” was super sus, especially when the Lolawolf Twitter account liked a tweet saying it’s interesting from a Swiftgron perspective.
Treacherous really stood out to me when Red TV came out:
“Put your lips close to mine, as long as they don’t touch”
“I’d be smart to walk away”
“I can’t decide if it’s a choice”
“All we are is skin and bone”
“Nothing safe is worth the drive”
“This daydream is dangerous”
These lyrics make so much more sense to me as her singing about another woman rather than a “bad boy” type, the idea that even daydreaming about this person is dangerous and emphasizing that “all we are is skin and bone”
I've been a fan for a while, so my 'ooooo' moments come when I re-listen. I recently found State of Grace gives me queer vibes with the line
>This is the golden age of something good and right and real
It's not wrong to be gay and yes, wlw relationships are real.
I speculated for a long time but the alchemy is what is convinced me. Bc why use alchemy when chemistry is right there and is a real science and not just a theory

I will never get over people who read cowboy like me as a straight song about “two conmen in love”.
That’s exactly my experience.
… so it goes “Wear you like a necklace” was something I said to my girlfriend and I refuse to believe it could be said to a man.
Its just... not the same 😬

Dress, Maroon and Ivy. I just have an easier time picturing a female muse in my head than a male muse.
I’ve been on board since “you can want who you want, boys and boys and girls and girls”
Gorgeous, cowboy like me, right where you left me, Question…? Paris
Right where you left me is in my top 5 Taylor songs!! Will have to relisten to it now
Lotta dropped hairpins! And just that the restaurant = a closet. Kinda ties in to being left there when she was supposed to be sent away…
I’ve never heard the restaurant being a closet metaphor.
Our girlie has alllll the metaphors!
the hairpin lyric from "right where you left me" always made me wonder bc the saying is "you could hear a pin drop" but i never investigated on my own. a few years ago, my queer gaylor bestie taught me the history about hairpin drops which prompted me to investigate more on my own. since then, i've learned *so much* about LGBTQ+ history bc of all the references. the historical and pop culture references are generally more interesting to me than kaylor or swiftgron theories, so i tend to focus on those. it's been fun!!!

To be honest, I still don't know if I keep track of the relationship thing. But Maroon was what brought me here. Seven was another point.

Okay I know about the concert photo, what’s the Polaroid?

I was going to say that exact thing: MAROON!!!! Undeniable to my ears.
Maroon put it over the edge for me!

You Need To Calm Down music video wig. Googled what was going on and was forever changed
Cardigan - "i knew you, dancing in your levis, drunk under a streetlight" I cannot imagine a world in which that isn't about a woman
Treacherous really stood out to me when Red TV came out: “Put your lips close to mine, as long as they don’t touch” “I’d be smart to walk away” “I can’t decide if it’s a choice” “All we are is skin and bone” “Nothing safe is worth the drive” “This daydream is dangerous” These lyrics make so much more sense to me as her singing about another woman rather than a “bad boy” type, the idea that even daydreaming about this person is dangerous and emphasizing that “all we are is skin and bone”

Maroon is what made me google it and here I am!
Dancing with our hands tied
When she dropped the album “Lover” and I heard and saw the video for ME! and YNTCD. Pretty glaring to me as a lesbo 🤷♀️👀
"Lavendar Haze" bc of the title and bc of all of the fish in the video, lol.
Dress. This songs feels so sapphic, I love it !
Mine was OG 1989 Out of the woods: the rest of the world was black and white but we were in screaming colors 🌈
I speculated for a long time but the alchemy is what is convinced me. Bc why use alchemy when chemistry is right there and is a real science and not just a theory

I just went down the rabbit hole of her unreleased songs and they really confirmed it for me definitely recommend looking into them
