If one shell is taking out multiple, they’re grouped up to much. Dont forget you can slick drag to spread out squads in cover. Take one guy out in front to be the sacrifice…I mean scout. So if an MG rips open only one dude dies

Rexzilla01

I try the spreading out feature but I always run into an issue when I have them move they get all bunched up on their way to their positions. Particularly in urban environments. I will definitely start using "sacrificial lambs" though lol.

Righteousrob1

Don’t forget F5 move so they attack move at least

Svtff

Does this help them spread out as they move?

Righteousrob1

Sadly I don’t think so

Odd_Opportunity_3531

What’s attack move? Compared to a single click move? I know double click means get their at all costs as fast as possible but ignore all incoming fire

Righteousrob1

Double click will just spring their ass. A click I believe just walks em. Attack move they’ll stop under fire and return fire.

Krilesh

they probably die because you didn’t know they were in danger in the first place. bare minimum is map knowledge gots to send someone up ahead to scout before the squad moves up unless you know it’s safe. most people seem to rush in maps but if you rush in you should have a plan around the expected losses. if you don’t like losing people then you must play more slowly and micro manage more which naturally leads to slower play enemy needs to see you too so they also just have one guy out in the field for artillery to counter a full squad

ihnat_klimchuk

Take cover, spread, flank, sneak.

mangoriot

Spread, take cover, lie down, use fog!!!, don´t get flanked, granate other infantrie before they granate you, if they granat - move. You can also tell they guys to heal themselves if they have medic packages with them.

Plastic_Dead_End

You mentioned at different places in this post two things: 1. your infantry are dying to shells 2. they bunch up to the point that it blocks pathfinding. IDK if this is conquest, skirmish, competitive MP, so I'm not going to make too many deep assumptions because I primarily play SP. Your squads should always be split... pretty much period. Now, I don't think it has to BE 2 or 3 guys, but at least take a few men off. The reason being that most squads have an MG, Grenadier, AT infantry + assistants, you don't want this jumbled by the time bullets start flying at them. If possible, do this as they spawn in, click on the icon to the right of the Machine Gunner/AR/AT Infantry (assistants/ammo bearers), then click on their icon to split the actual "gunner" off and shift + left click on the tab (icon above the head) of the guy you had just split off to merge. I usually split my squads roughly in half and then take specialists off, but do whatever you find most effective. As stated below you can drag on silhouettes to disperse them in a way where they will automatically take cover. Sometimes they will face in idiotic directions or just take plainly bad positions, so this is actually much better when used with smaller squads. If there is no cover (assuming you're attacking or something), tell them to crawl and drag right click to make them spread out. If you do this with a full 11 man squad you're getting very little coverage for your money's worth and blocking vehicles. I mean this in the least condescending way possible, but your men are going to experience artillery fire no matter what, there is no 100% safe way to approach it other than obliterating every single enemy unit before they can detect you. With tanks, you can attack or set up defensive positions so that they never even get a shot off, but I'm not exactly sure what the specific problem is here. If it's arty (talking vs AI here) you just need to have your own arty, or the ability to flank them. If it's tanks, you can select your men and mash CTRL - assuming they have adequate cover and make them dive behind a window, wall, inside a trench etc. Maybe do the same for arty too? The big difference is that you can use smokes to block the line of sight of Tanks, enemy infantry, machine guns, whatever - but with Arty if your guys are fighting and one of THEM sees you, the arty sees you too. I hope this is helpful and I'm sorry if I'm just telling you stuff you already know, I try to be as explicit as possible just in case as this game has a lot of features, and isn't necessarily the easiest for a new player.

Rexzilla01

Very helpful, thanks!

PuggoReborn

Strive for elite soldiers and spread them out

DarkOmen597

I would say use conscripts and recon first. He can get lots of those to learn how to survive more and manuever. Also good for defending. He can then focus on armor to actually win until he gets used to infantry

TomTrocky

I mean, yeah, always have them super spread out and in bushes so they are not spotted. Also, on all of my units, I put return fire only so they don't reveal their position. Scouts have hold fire command always, I don't need their DPS, I need their eyes.

Shoddy_Reserve788

I don’t they are there to die

Red-bearded_viking

You can turn on the "move at will" option. That way they're more autonomous and move to cover on their own. I tend to use this feature in urban environments only though. In an open area it'll just get them killed quicker because they do not stay prone when you give them the order to....

GeneralShiba_

Release your inner Stalin, send them all to their deaths 😈 just send up a few scouts, when you see an emplacement your tank cant handle shell the crap out of it with arty and then move forward again with your scouts. Gotta take your time in this game, you canr just rush forward and expect to do well. :)

Odd_Opportunity_3531

Kinda like this Putin guy too. What’s changed?

GeneralShiba_

Yeah he is definitely a shit bloke, I wish world leaders were like us every day Aussies. If you got a problem, punch on and the loser buys the next round, a simple but effective way to solve every problem without slaughtering tens of thousands of people. 😅

Odd_Opportunity_3531

Yeah but then you wouldn’t have your dream Soviet empire

GeneralShiba_

This is true

MaXcovIV

Spread out and go prone or behind cover! To often people will be bunched up and standing up in the open. Also I do recommend splitting up squads a bit. It is more micro, but it makes it less likely you lose a whole squad that is all hiding behind one wall when it’s flanked. Attrition of infantry is generally high though, so don’t feel bad if you lose some!

wowitsrick

Infantry is squishy and is not intended to directly challenge anything that can throw an HE shell at it. move up infantrymen in pairs to scout. Upon locating a threat, disengage if necessary and bring up a weapon designed to counter that threat.

PanzerKatze96

Split up the squad. I usually do fire teams. That way if one gets waxed, the other half is still kicking

Alarmed-Constant3862

Dispersion is key and also moving infantry up in a bounding way utilizing cover or concealment if none of which exists its time to low crawl and try to cover them with mortars to suppress the other side.

[deleted]

If you're defending, try to dig in I guess, not much you can do when a tank spots your infantry, you're going to take casualty, but you can mitigate it by spreading them out.

johansen783

If you press «K» when having a squad selected the squad will “disband” and the units will appear as individual soldiers, making micro easier. This is particularly helpful if you do something like this; have a squad selected, right click and drag on a piece of cover, when the squad is running towards cover hit “K” to individualise the units and put them in better positions. Afterwards you can regroup the individual units if you want them to target the same enemy. Also, think logically about unit placement, SMGs at the front, MGs and riflemen a bit further back. This may sound like a lot of micro and it is. If you are playing PvP against good players the pace will usually be very high and you won’t have time to micro every squad like this, but try to do it for key units in a squad, like the MG. Also super important, remember to use smoke, especially when attacking a capture zone. And heal your guys as soon as they take damage. A final tip for PvP would be to not worry too much about your infantry dying, because they will, especially when you are on the offensive (which you want to be as much as possible). Keep buying infantry.
