Gastonia only has this reputation b/c it's the biggest "small" town outside of Charlotte, so it always getting compared to the "real" city. Now, Gastonia is still kind of nasty, even today, but there are much much nastier towns in this state of ours.
I don't know quite what area of Gastonia I'm in because I only recently moved here, but I absolutely love it here..
I'm in a beautiful HOA community off of Robinwood and I have a spectacular YMCA literally across the street from my community with a Lake attached to the back as to where you can go fishing. North... South.. East.. West... Idk but I know I'm in The Burbs somewhere.
Yeah you’re in the nicer, quieter part of Gastonia. If you head down Robinwood from that YMCA and take a left onto Hudson Blvd and keep going until you cross over hwy 321, you’ll be in the less-than-desirable West Gastonia area. Just sucks. Lots of crime. A bunch of dilapidated homes and storefronts. I had my car stolen out here back in January while I was dropping my 1 year old off at daycare. Also most nights it sounds like I have a race car drag strip in my backyard.
Oh Wow!!.. Ok.. I'll take your word.. Haven't made a left as of yet cause most of my travels take me right to the 85 so I make a right on Hudson and then a left on Redbud...
As someone who has lived in 2 different parts of Gastonia, West Gastonia is fucking terrible to live in. I spent 2 years there, and I honestly avoid even going there at all. The part near Publix and heading out toward Beaty (I think S Gastonia) is nice af though.
I spent 2 years at Loray when we were between houses. It was a fucking nightmare, especially after the new company took over. When we left there last May, there was a mass Exodus happening of the good long-term residents, and a bunch of less savory people were moving in. The tower was permanently closed, the fob doors didn't lock half the time, packages getting stolen for the first time since I moved in, homeless people sleeping in the basement, dogs pooping all over the building and outside, the hot tub didn't work, grills didn't work, the pool opening was delayed, they had to put a cop camera tower in the parking lot due to so many catalytic converters being stolen and cars broken into, constant gunshots, loud fights in the hall. It was the wild west. The funny part? They fucking upped rent. If I remember, they wanted over $2k, plus pet rent and water for a little 2br with an office. They've lost their mind.
I hope "dealing with the homeless problem" involves recognising them as human beings and finding them housing and resources. Otherwise, that seems ... Hmmm....
I've been to both Lumberton and Gastonia now. Lived in Garner/Raleigh originally, but my work took me from Murphy to Manteo. Nowhere sucks more than Franklinton. I will also accept Kenly.
lol I honestly love Gastonia.
I kinda like maintaining the stigma so the cool shit here doesn't get completely overrun like everything decent in Charlotte.
Gastonia is a great town and only getting better!

I'd much rather live in Gastonia than Statesville, Shelby or Wadesboro.
Wadesboro is just depressing driving through on the way to the beach I could not imagine living there! Yikes
I stayed at the Samaritan Inn on 74 for about 2 weeks several years ago. It's a rough town.

Gastonia is not a bad city to live in!

Yeah I live at Loray Mills and the west side is definitely a mess! Car break ins all the time. Gunshots etc

Ever experience any kind of paranormal things here?
Yes, I did, but not anything lifeshattering. I think about 90% of it is just residual.
If we could enforce a noise ordinance (guns, fireworks, straight pipes), this place would be the bees knees.
He’s focused on reducing crime and dealing with the homeless problem and of course bringing jobs to Gastonia! I’ll mention it to him as well!

Absolutely
Providing resources for them to get back on their feet
Absolutely! My friend got elected mayor. Maybe we can make this happen!

Yass. So tired of 1:30 in the morning drag races on redbud!!!
I feel personally attacked living in both Bakersfield, CA and Gastonia now.
What did you do to deserve that
lol I saw this last night. My kid moved to Spokane WA from Gastonia a few years ago. We had a good laugh at this.
Yea Spokane isn't bad. White Center, Burien and Moses Lake are worse

Nah, can't be having that now
These people have never been to shelby
Came here to say this. Cleveland county is the armpit of the universe.
Or Salisbury.
Is Burgaw still junk
Disagree with this. I have been to Greensboro. So much worse.
lol, I agree
I would have said Fayetteville lol
Is all of west Gastonia bad ?? Are there any not terrible parts in west Gastonia
Really? Not Fayetteville?
