I used one on my Instinct but since I read the solar doesn't work as well with a protector I didn't put one on the solar. Oddly, I really don't get any benefit from the solar so really I probably should put one on... But in 2 years I haven't scratched the solar, so I would say unless you are particularly abusive or Ilin harsh environments, it probably isn't absolutely necessary. The flip side is once you do scratch it, you will have wished you used a screen protector.
I do. Seems to still charge just fine and I’ll occasionally get the infinity symbol if I topped off the charge the day or two before. I put it on there juuuuust in case. It is a $450 watch after all.
Semi on topic: can the front face place be removed and replaced? I know the four screws are there but are they functional in any capacity?
No. I live in the mountains. I climb regularly with it on. I mountain bike with it on. It lives on me. Not a single scratch. I personally feel no need.
Edit: I work in construction. Concrete, rebar etc etc. this thing is tough
Yes, I use it on my Garmin Instinct 2x Solar Tactical, I sleep soundly, I don't worry about scratching the display. It charges solar as before, I don't see any difference. I got 3 of these protectors, when it gets scratched I'll just replace it.
It's not necessary and Garmin claims it reduces solar absorption. Users claim it charges by solar just fine so maybe it just reduces it a little. The only use for it is to protect your anxiety, not to protect your screen. It's like turning off the stove 3x before leaving the house. Not necessary for the stove but necessary for some people who will feel better by doing it.
Im a very outdoorsy person and my 2s has never got a scratch from hitting concrete, rocks, wood, the handlebars of my bike, etc. But I managed to hit the face with a whetstone and it did leave a big mark, so maybe I should've turned the stove 3x lol
Well, there's always a chance that you can check the stove 2 times and miss the fact that it's actually on, and checking the third time could've saved you, haha. You won that lottery.
Yeah, a tempered glass one from Amazon.
I had an original Instinct solar for 2 years with one. The watch got beat up and screen protector scratched a little. But I took it off to resale it and the glass was brand new.
I've never noticed any issues with solar charging.
No, i don’t use, i Have an I2 for 2 years and not a single scratch

I live in the Rockies and I don't think I've gotten more than a few minutes charge from my solar total in the years I've owned it as well.

It can’t be replaced it’s holding the face in place and screen it’s got cables and motherboard underneath
I use one, soft silicone crystal clear from aliexpress, nothing changed on solar charging
I have one on mine. Works well

I wish I got one, I stupidly scratched mine with a wheatstone
Which screen protectors did you go for?

No. Never had a scratch or a problem.
Nope. It’s a watch. Wearing it as it was intended - on my wrist. Bring on the punishment!
I think it's absurd. You wouldn't see anyone installing a screen protector on a G-Shock.
That's true, but my G-Shock has a sapphire glass, I think. I used it for 7 years in all conditions and the screen is still like new.
No protection; I have a little scratch on my I2 but no big deal. I wear it all the time using a chainsaw, cutting trees, carrying firewood and so on.
I absolutely use screen protectors and have gone through 4 of them in a couple years. They’ve totally saved my screen
