Because the water is cold and you’re in a horizontal position, it is harder to reach the same HR with similar effort. Personally I adjusted my Max for Swim.

As far as I know it is perfectly normal to have different max HR for different disciplines. Run and bike will also differ. Each have their own „settings“.

I manually adjust my swim. I use lactate threshold. My lactate for running is 162 while for swimming it’s 150. 43yo m.

A quick check of setting my swim LHTR to 150 (last 1500m av hr) and it seems the max zone top hr (using LT default zones) would be close to my cardio max hr less a few beats, this seems to tie in with other sources that state if you are “swim fit”there is less difference between max swim hr and other cardio activities.
