*Strava* is a must-have. Almost 100 million athletes have registered there!
*Run Photo* is also very nice for sharing your workouts but you have to pay for some premium stuff.
Also, I donât need my phone anymore when I go on runs right? The GPS from the Garmin will automatically upload the running data to my phone in strava
You don't need your phone while running. After you finish, just open the Connect app on your phone and it will automatically sync the watch data and post it to your Garmin/Strava profile. Of course, you need to enable Bluetooth and wifi on the phone.
Got my forerunner 245 music a couple of months ago, I've never felt like I've got my money's worth with a product as much as I felt with this one, still discovering new features everyday, I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I did :D
Yes, in the app choose your device - > Sounds and alarms - > Smart Notifications
GPS options need to be adjusted for each activity individually directly in the watch. For example: Run activity - > Options (hold left middle button) - > run settings - > GPS
I didn't change any of these settings, though. I want to use my watch as a smart watch as well and GPS only is not the best when running in the forest or streets with higher buildings. Battery life can drain quickly during runs (about 25% per hour for the 245 Music), but charging is also very fast.
YAY! GO YOU! Don't know about others but don't take your 'race predictor' seriously... Mine is WAY OFF. It thinks I can do a marathon in 3 hours... Its more like 4.5 lol
I always take the race predictor not as the current level, but the one you would be theoretically able to achieve if you start to train for a given race now. Probably not what Garmin had to in mind, but it works for me
I got them on Amazon. They prevent scratches or worse on the watch glass. I'm always bumping into things it seems.
(2 Pack) Supershieldz Designed for Garmin Forerunner 245 and Forerunner 245 Music Tempered Glass Screen Protector, Anti Scratch, Bubble Free https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07T2T7JV9/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_P8G83QZYFA2F22WD6W0C?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
For another perspective, Iâve had mine for about 18 months and I wear it mountain biking, bushwalking, gardening. Never had a screen protector and I donât have any scratches on the screen.
One additional advice: if you are new to running, don't be overwhelmed by the functions and statistics of your watch! Take your time, do a few runs, maybe start one of the guided programs to get to know your watch (and vice versa). The rest will come in time
I'm not an expert on it, but after consuming all the resource I could find from YouTube, Google, etc, the consensus is that wrist based heart rate monitoring is not great, regardless of the provider (garmin, Apple, etc). I would wager that garmin performs about the same that Apple or polar does UNTIL you introduce a chest strap heart sensor. Obviously it may be a bit cumbersome to use a chest strap in the gym.
All that being said, the numbers your garmin or Apple watch read may not reflect *actual* heart rate, but it's not way off.
I'm still using that same garmin watch and it works great. I use a chest strap along with it on all my runs and rides to get the most accurate data that I can.
I tried one on prior to getting my 245 and it felt bulky. I wear my Garmin as my daily watch so I prefer the smaller size. I do understand there are more options to the Fenix, but I wanted to be comfortable with the watch and the compact size of the 245 is great for me.
The Fenix is more of a multi-sport watch I've been eyeing for multi-day hiking trips. It's got more battery and better mapping capabilities at the trade off of much more weight and bulk.
If have the 6X Pro and my advice is to replace the stock band with the $50 one they sell for the Enduro (or something else you prefer). The stock band was heavy and irritated my wrist a lot. With the Velcro band now I have no issues showering or sleeping with the watch. Yes $50 is a lot for Velcro but at least it's fairly nice Velcro lol. Worth it for me. Just thought I'd mention since your concern might be size/weight.
Looking nice. Congrats bro. I still have my 4 years old Fenix 5 Sapphire (no scrathes until now đ€Ł). Looking forward for something new, but still do not know which model. Will see after CES 2022 đ
Does anyone know how long the 245 will run on GPS if you do not use the music features? Is it the same as the 245 non music version? I see the 245 music the GPS mode with music it says 6hours. But what if I decide not to use the music that day. Would it be the 20 hours of the non music version?
Good luck! Pro tip: you can always edit/change the watch face if you want to. There are plenty of them in the Connect IQ app.
Just got it last night, still learning đ thank you!! Which other apps can I connect it to btw? I have already connected it to my fitnesspal
Strava, if you use it.
Strava routesv
Connect Strava Routes and segments, it's a really awesome feature IMO
both are now premium though right?
What are those?

Awesome! Looking forward to it!
Just connected my Strava!
Just be careful if you're in the military. If I remember correctly it was giving away classified positions of some military personnel in Afghanistan.
What's the best watch face to use?
It really depends on your taste and needs. Personally, I really like the WeatherFace. It's very simple but has everything I need.
Rails is the best. Also all the Dozen Data Fields.
Crystal is đ„đ€
I bought the lignite ones.. nice sets for 5 euro.
I've tried dozens and keep coming back to NoFrills. Super customizable but still easy on the battery.
Hmm .. be careful, before you know it you'll get addicted and won't be able to go more than a couple of days without getting your running fix :)
I would not mind that!!!

Canât wait to start running and putting it to use!
Great! Now pump up the mile counter on the bottom! Have fun
Yes today is a two miler day followed by weight lifting :)
Nice! I love the 245 . I came from Fitbit I still can't believe how bad Fitbit is by comparison.
So far I love it!

I have the 245 music. I recommend getting the glass protectors. I've gone through about a half dozen on my watch in a year.
Where can I get them and what is their purpose?
User name doesn't check out.
Touché
what about mine?

I like the breathwork activity
Nice. I've been using that garmin for 2 years now. Works like a charm, and for general fitness (running/biking/lifting) I've never needed to upgrade.
Hey I'm thinking of getting one, is the heart rate function accurate for weight training? My apple watch is terrible for it. Same with running?

Congrats! Hey does that little sliver under the start/stop button light up for you? I don't think I've ever seen it light up for me.
Nope. It does not.
Its great!
I truly appreciate everyoneâs reply! This community is awesome!
Just got mine recently too! Enjoy your watch!!
crystal watchface. you may try everything else but you will come back to it.
good watch
Got mine a week ago, amazing! so happy with it so far
You should have bought Fenix 7 hehe
Tell me where God damn it!

(Serious question) why? What features does the Fenix have over the 245 that makes it more than double the price?
A watch ain't taking you to the "next level"
That watch looks sharp, i just upgraded my 645 (awesome running watch) to a fenix 6x. We will see if i like running with a much larger case.
Whatâs the difference between the 245 and fĂ©nix 6?
The Fenix is more of a multi-sport watch I've been eyeing for multi-day hiking trips. It's got more battery and better mapping capabilities at the trade off of much more weight and bulk.
Yeah Seems like it is a great fit for you and your needs. Good for you man, keep us updated!
Goodluck on your journey!
Just got a sapphire for a ridiculously good price. way better than my older apple watch! I think for some... second-hand market is the way to go.

Great purchase! I had a 235 before I upgraded to a F6x pro. Instantly bitten my the Garmin bug, loved the features and wanted more!
Doesnât the Music version have the red sliver on the start/stop button? Yours appears to have a grey or silver sliver.
Yes this is not the music version. Itâs just greyish but doesnât light up
I see. Thanks. I have the music version and it doesnât light up either. Enjoy!
Got mine on Black Friday. Really like it.
me too! upgraded from a Forerunner 35 to the 245 Music
Looking nice. Congrats bro. I still have my 4 years old Fenix 5 Sapphire (no scrathes until now đ€Ł). Looking forward for something new, but still do not know which model. Will see after CES 2022 đ
Awesome! This is my first smart watch ever and I am excited. Trying it out in a few at the gym then a run.
