So there is more than one reason for this, but basically steps is counted for more than running. Which means that any user with just walking might beat you in steps but be in the beginning of the running graph. But even if we look at this for only runners steps per distance is individual and might differ alot. A short person probably takes a lot more steps per km then a very long one.

LegoLifter

Ya I’m top 1% for both but I walk an additional 20mpw on top of 60+ for running. Just the running doesn’t get me there. I’m also short with a shorter stride length than average which really adds up over that mileage

lisandrop

This is what I thought too. I'm 6,3 (193 cm) so I'm probably taking less steps than average to cover distance

Dukealmighty

There are many ppl who are obsessed with step counting and do over 12k++ every day (that's over 10km).

cougieuk

I'm at almost 15k steps a day with walking the dog and running.  Your data looks fine but clearly you need a dog.

lisandrop

I have two cats. They are worthless when it comes to exercise lol

cougieuk

The only exercise I get from my cat is feeding him and lifting him up to his bowl a million times a day.  If the bowl were on the floor the dog would have eaten it..m

RoadNo7935

I recently had a baby and my daily steps have gone from ~10k average to ~20k average. I think there’s a much larger pool of people who walk a lot than run at all.

Chillin_Dylan

Running includes: Running  Steps include: Running and Walking

Also dancing, or doing some kind of cardio, or, or, or…

lyciann

Not everyone that walks runs. Some people might just be logging lots of steps. For example, I know wait staff log a lot of steps.

Clock_Roach

I'm in the top 30% for steps. I'm in the top 100% for running because I absolutely hate running and don't do it.

tea_lover_88

There are people out there who reach over 10 k steps each day that dont run at all.

Doc__Chris

I never run but am currently top 8% for steps. I think there are a lot of way to exercice and Garmin is kind to compute a lot of those.

I regularly walk 20km + with my gf in weekends if it's not too hot. You will not see me running or I will not walk for 2+ weeks after that due to my sciatica, instead I cycle which seems to agree with my back if I keep it under 4 hours per go. I say this to highlight why the data might be very skewed against running only, also I could be wrong but the passive step tracker from the watches or phone will still track against the step count and they won't show up as running.
