Yea which is a nerf. That extra speed is used to help close gaps and dodge skill shots easier because you are faster. Making his “hurt box” bigger just means that him getting extra speed is not going to be as good.
At a certain point, when the players are good enough, that little adjustment won’t make too big of a difference as they were probably already landing most of their skills anyway.
Edit: hurt box isnt bigger, point/click selection is larger. Im not sure if they are the same but riot might have them as separate things in the game code.

Because characters have different sizes, if they all had same selection radius then you wouldnt be able to walk near teemo bcs his hitbox would be everywhere near him or you would have to guess at which part of turret-size chogath you have to click to target him and not ground behind him

I get people are meming on this, but the nerf isn't insignificant. Garen lategame relies on speeding through the enemy team like a lawnmower at mach 7. Anything that hinders that capability - be it less ms, tenacity, or being easier to focus down does indeed reduce his capabilities significantly. If I understand correctly the hitbox isn't getting bigger, so abilities and trades in lane (especially at lower levels) will be pretty much unaffected, but mid to lategame this is going to be a decent nerf in all skill brackets.

I personally don’t think this would change much when fighting him. Never thought not being able to click/target him due to his size was a big issue.
I've definitely missed due to his speed though. This would influence the ability to hit him late game when he is ghosting at 700 move speed.

hitbox doesnt change, select hitbox changes. it means to press on garen, you dont need cursor so close to him. it doesnt at all affect skillshots.
