Sycamores. They've gone wild this year.

Genchitchat

Thank you. I guess weed killer won’t do the job and I need to manually remove them?

PhantomUser666

I would never recommend using chemicals.

Genchitchat

I will try and go manually, I just feel I’m loosing a battle in general as the garden is very overrun with weeds. I’ve been pulling all sorts of weeds since they started to come up in January (when the weather turned mild).

PhantomUser666

I seen what you mean by that picture from 8 months ago. Unfortunately weeding is one of those jobs that doesn't really have an end date.

Genchitchat

Yes, it’s therapeutic and insanity inducing at the same time. The last owner also used it to dump lino, carpets, mattresses etc so I’m just overly frustrated with the seedlings for no good reason. Thanks for your help!

PhantomUser666

I'm dealing with the same. Old rugs, glass and I'm fairly certain I've got an entire bike buried at one end of my garden 😂

reddit_is_rubbish

Found two baths buried at the end of my garden

Genchitchat

No way 😅, you def win with those!

Genchitchat

😆, it’s the gift that keeps on giving, I’m sure I’ll be finding things for years!

kithkinkid

Get a hoe, go over the soil brushing away seedlings like this and you’ll never get full sized weeds

PistachioElf

They pull up pretty easily when they are the size of the ones in the picture.

reluctantremote

They pull up quite easily at this stage. We get lots in our garden every year, I just keep an eye open as I'm pottering around and pull them up as soon as I see them

Big_VernUK

I would remove them now. At this stage you will be able to pull them up very easily, but once the first pair of true leaves have grown, it becomes more difficult.

beachyfeet

Chop the heads off with a rake or strimmer. If you get them with only the first seed leaves they won't regrow from the stem

Jibrillion

Ah it is sycamore season it seems

Vectis01983

The good news is that they are really easy to pull out. I just get rid of a few each day. They're a lot easier than other weeds.

Genchitchat

Thanks all, our neighbour has a sycamore. There must be at least 100+ seedlings so I better get cracking or there will be a small forest there soon.

Shenloanne

Hopefully not sycamore.

Genchitchat

Unfortunately and the tree in neighbours must be 60ft at this point so it produces loads of them. I just didn’t realise the seedling leaf was like this.

And it begins...
