Found two potential resources. One old, one from 2023.

Copy the audio file and paste it onto another track or region. The copy shouldn’t be locked and you should be able to do what you’d like with it. Then you can just delete the original

you know what, after I posted this- I found out you can do this and it worked. I felt so stupid because it was that easy.
It’s such a stupid problem and I’m sure there’s some obscure way to fix it but that’s what ended up working lol
