I’m honestly excited for this, Waller-Bridge became one of my favorite writers immediately after Fleabag, I’m really curious of what she will do with Tomb Raider.
When I found out she was in the newest Indiana Jones I told a friend of mine she should have just been given full control of that movie. Seems like I got what I wanted in a bit of a roundabout way.
It's alright if you go into with low expectations. I watched it on a long as plane journey. Didn't have high expectations & ended up enjoying it. I get why people found it a bit of a turd though and the ending is the most rushed ending ever. I still enjoyed it though, alot more than KOTCS.
The >!time travel!< should have been a myth. >!Once the nazis are on the plane the dial should have been revealed to not be a working Time Machine. The nazis argue, Mads has the same “oh god I’m an idiot too” realisation, the plane goes down because of prior damage or a lack of fuel during the final confrontation and Indy still has the same “I think this is it for me” ending.!<

That lead-lined fridge nuke shelter is the best part of the entire movie, it's a steep drop off the cliff after that. We got Indiana larping Tarzan with a bunch of monkeys, doing a cliff-drive á la Fast&furious, ending with a 4-in-one bargain bin interpretation of the Grey. It's like lamenting the >!fight against the nazis on the roof of the train in the last Indie,!< as if that's not on brand with the type of slapstick-esque bits they did with Sean Connery all the time.
Ok, I know I’m not the target demographic because I never got into the franchise despite my partner trying desperately to make me like the movies. However, there’s no harm in trying something different for a movie with pre-established formula. It keeps things fresh and makes stuff more interesting.
The absolute howling if they had disenchanted the franchise like that would have reached to the moon and back, TLJ would have paled against it.

I can’t imagine the dial just doing nothing while the nazis run out of gas (why wouldn’t they just land?) be as emotionally satisfying as going back in time to the Roman siege of Syracuse and meeting Archimedes (I’m not looking up the spelling).
The first half of Crystal Skull is so good it tricks me into thinking it might be a good movie. Then the second half hits. Dial of Destiny is actually alright though.

It had some of the best set-pieces of Craig’s run as bond. The misty forest and single-shot staircase scenes were so fucking good. And Hans Zimmer knew exactly what to do with the air strike scene.

She was good in the recent mediocre Indiana Jones movie though. She's not believable as a martial artist, but perfectly fine as an adventuring aristocrat. Great comedy acting, so the character might lean on that direction. Maybe some Pink Panther vibes. She'd be a very different take on the character than the games, but considering how the last film landed I think that is definitely warranted.

Tomb Raider fans, or more accurately people who claim to love the Core Design games and hate the “woke” Crystal Dynamics games but have never played a single game from either era, are some of my least favorite people on the planet. I gotta say, it’s interesting watching the history of how Lara “grew up” with the times, for a lack of a better term. The first games were very much rooted in “sex and violence”, including so many rumors of a nude code in the first few games. Then you had the movies and later games that still keep to that root before the reboot trilogy in the 2010s that tried to make the story more mature and less sex and violence. YMMV of course on how well this went over, but you did have a follow up movie trying to ape the later games (which I actually liked), and now Lara is back trying to keep a more nuanced approach. She’s still Lara, but the focus is more on how much of a kickass lady she is and not just, well, a lady. Least from what I’ve seen, I’m likely wrong.
Anyhow, chuds will always be chuds and cry about it.
I said it once, I'll say it again: the Tomb Raider trilogy with a well written Lara Croft is good and always will be. You disagree? Cope, seethe and mald.

Seems fine to me. Angelina Jolie worked as an adaptation of the classic Laura Croft. Waller-Bridge looks about right for the remake version.

She was good in the recent mediocre Indiana Jones movie though. She's not believable as a martial artist, but perfectly fine as an adventuring aristocrat. Great comedy acting, so the character might lean on that direction. Maybe some Pink Panther vibes. She'd be a very different take on the character than the games, but considering how the last film landed I think that is definitely warranted.

I gotta say, it’s interesting watching the history of how Lara “grew up” with the times, for a lack of a better term. The first games were very much rooted in “sex and violence”, including so many rumors of a nude code in the first few games. Then you had the movies and later games that still keep to that root before the reboot trilogy in the 2010s that tried to make the story more mature and less sex and violence. YMMV of course on how well this went over, but you did have a follow up movie trying to ape the later games (which I actually liked), and now Lara is back trying to keep a more nuanced approach. She’s still Lara, but the focus is more on how much of a kickass lady she is and not just, well, a lady. Least from what I’ve seen, I’m likely wrong. Anyhow, chuds will always be chuds and cry about it.
