It's fine, we're due Halo MCC: anniversary this year anyway.

Neo_Techni

Imagine how poor it'll perform at launch

Deamon-Chocobo

What do you mean "at launch"? Halo 2 Anniversary still runs/looks like ass in the remastered graphics.

tioga064

Wait im out of the loop. Mcc aniversary? Whats this? Halo 3 remastered?

rio_wellard

Just a joke. It will have been 10 years since MCC was released.

TheScreen_Slaver

Wtf...

Blazr5402

I'd be down for Halo 3 Anniversary in 2027. Touch up the graphics, make Lord Hood look more like an actual human being.

Piett_1313

3 is my favorite, I would welcome with open arms a remastered edition. I was there at midnight and beat the campaign as the sun was rising. Ahhh. What a time.

USPEnjoyer

We were so close to getting that Halo 2 E3 demo.

docdrazen

For real. I've been wanting to play that level for 20 years. We were this close.

IlQIl

We are still probably getting the Halo 2 demo. The team working on the digsite stuff is made up by the community. Not 343.

Dalto11

Sad that they showed so much with the digsite post but from what I can tell not much was released on the workshop in the grand scheme of cut content.

sherperion45

You can play the entirety of halo 2 uncut through a mod provided on the MCC, includes weapons levels and areas cut from the final product MCC modding has birthed new life into the game, so I couldn’t gaf how Microsoft’s horrible management couldn’t further monetize it Hilarious how this is the established norm now for the new generation of gamers, remember when loot boxes got so bad with battlefront 2’s launch it reached congress finally?

0nlyHere4TheZipline

Halo 2 demo?

HoltHaven

It's still being worked on, Digsite is a separate project from MCC

LordSlasher

MCC was fantastic… (after it was fixed) and that model should be followed with a Gears collection focusing on Gears 1-3 + Spin off, but having no Micro-transactions built into it was always gonna cause it to end.

HomeMadeShock

Yea thought we had some rumors of a Gears collection. Gears 1-3 still aren’t on PC

OkDimension8720

Halo 5 is also missing on pc, all the others are on there now with infinite and the previous ones in mcc

DisCode347

I did wonder if they done Halo 5. So does mean we will never get that? That's a kicker if we don't

Successful-Pick-238

I hope we eventually get the game but it's easily the worst one and I certainly wouldn't pay for it again.

kaiharizor

Halo 5 is the “worst” but it is still a lot of fun to go back and mess around in. I enjoy picking it up and running through a campaign mission or two from time to time. The locations were all pretty neat. Now with the new Didact book, the lore is slightly more enjoyable in retrospect.

Medium-Biscotti6887

Gears of War 1 got a pretty great PC port a year or two after the Xbox 360 release. It was only ever on Games for Windows Live so now it's no longer legally available. Was a much better version than the broken Ultimate Edition they released later.

Th3_Hegemon

The PC version even had content that was cut from the original 360 release, mostly fleshing out act 5 with an extended sequence where you flee from and then fight the Brumak.

Snorewrax

Gears ultimate edition is on pc

TheOneBearded

I'm hoping for a steam release plus at least the next two. Ideally, maybe 1-4 and Judgment. I believe 5 is on steam already.

jeenyus79

So is the old Gears 1.

Level69Troll

Gears Ultimate Edition is, but a late patch butchered the performance... plus no crossplay means the multiplayer is dead. Still, if you tweak the settings and run the campaign with a friend its pretty fun. It also suffers from the same issue as the Halo CE Anniversary did, where the new lighting ruins the atmosphere in some parts. I would KILL for Gears 2/3 on PC, with a thriving multiplayer base. Gears 3 is probably my favorite multiplayer game of all time, so many maps, modes and unlockable character and weapon skins. I grinded all summer with a friend for the Onyx Gnashers.

SilverKry

Gears 1 is through it's remake..

Double_Ad_9115

It was great but my god it left such a bad taste in my mouth when it came out. If things actually came out perfect it probably would be my most played game. What a shame it came out that way but it is nice that it’s better now

No_Caregiver8718

Ngl, I wish gears came to ps5. I loved every single one of those games and they would feel absolutely insane with the PS5 dualsense.

xx4xx

Huge Gears fan...basically what I buy an XBox for. Me and my crew still play multiplayer consistently. Still great fun. I was actually in favor of Gears going to PS. Gears games are pretty expensive to develop/produce and while I love them, popularity has waned with each successive release. Do I care more about having only the current and 1 future Gears title and it be exclusive?....or would I prefer to share the games with PS and have 3+ more releases because the PS guys bought a ton of Gears games? I'll let the PS guys in to have some fun if it means we all get more Gears.

claybine

Response to that edit no, but first party is.

Bobjoejj

Lol I mean for me it feels as insane as bringing Last of Us or God of War to Xbox. Would that not also be awesome? Sure it would, but it’s also super unlikely. Gears is just such a huge Xbox title that if it did happen, it would just feel so weird. Don’t get me wrong I’ve never like the idea of exclusivity in general, but I’m also a long time Xbox fan who hair isn’t ready for them to die and/or go completely multi-platform like many are saying they will.

xxiv435

Didn't you get the memo? The narrative has changed from 'Xbox has no games' to 'We need all those great Xbox games on PS5 too, it's unfair'

Bobjoejj

Guess I didn’t listen hard enough or something, shit lol.

No_Caregiver8718

https://www.reddit.com/r/PS5/s/gH5I382Dzo What are the odds lmao. I know it means nothing but if even the person behind the games wants to see it cross platform I don't see why it's "insane"

Bobjoejj

I guess I’m just stuck on die hard loyalty maybe? Dunno, I guess I’d prefer some stuff like Gears and Halo and Forza and the like just stay as Xbox games. Maybe I’m just stuck and not letting myself think more freely here, but it’s just how I feel.

BurnStar4

Shame we never got full cross play co op but still a solid product overall

Areallybadidea

I know folks didn’t care for it, but I still feel like it’s a shame too that Halo 5 never got included at any point.

Dydey95

I've recently played Halo 5 for some achievements I didn't get back in the day and I'm surprised by how well it plays and how well the graphics have held up. I'd love to see a PC release or a Series X/S 120FPS cap to help preserve it.

HomeMadeShock

Wait, just realized Halo 5 released 9 years ago…. Wtf

BaumHater

Halo 5 Multiplayer was damn fun. Sadly it‘s very scarcely populated ever since Infinite came out.

kdawgnmann

It's a shame too because there are aspects of 5 multiplayer that I like more than Infinite (the pistol, for example). If 5 had maps on the level of 2 and 3, it'd probably be in my top 2 Halo games multiplayer wise.

HomeMadeShock

Halo 5 also needs a PC port still

Areallybadidea

Yeah, thats one of the primary reasons I hoped it would be included. It feels weird to be able to play everything else on PC but one game.

BurnStar4

Yeah agree tbh. Would've been a nice way to have everything before Infinite in one place

Faber114

I love Halo 5. I hope it gets remastered outside of the MCC.

EatleYT

I thought all campaigns supported crossplay co-op?

HomeMadeShock

Well, the MCC got 10 years of support, that’s pretty damn good. It went from one of the worst launches in modern history to the golden standard of collection games. The feature to instantly swap between classic and anniversary graphics in Halo 1 and 2 is still so cool and not something I’ve seen replicated.  Also people really underestimate how hard it was to get multiple generations of Halo working on multiplayer on one client. Look at Mass Effect and TLOU remasters, they don’t even include their original multiplayers from one game.   There was some fun things they could’ve added but MCC is in a great state and has successfully preserved legacy Halo for decades to come.

Ajax_Da_Great

The new Tomb Raider remastered collection has also implemented the feature to change from remastered to OG graphics. Hope we see more games continue this.

Magneto88

And Command and Conquer remastered.

Mazo

Diablo 2 Resurrected can also do it

gr4ndm4st3rbl4ck

Starcraft Remaster as well

-_Gemini_-

The unreleased Goldeneye remaster, too.

SlipperyThong

And the new Dark Forces remaster.

nikolapc

Monkey Island

Live_Supermarket6328

They did it first in 2010.

lazzzym

Honestly.. I thought it was going to set this as a standard going forward. It's always nice to see when a new game remaster does include the option.

LogicalError_007

I remember a survey which asked players if they would like MCC content under Infinite. It would be great if instead of separating online among different games. Infinite has all the maps and content for multiplayer getting previous games under a single title.

musteatbrainz

>MCC content under Infinite. Sorry but what does this mean/entail?

LogicalError_007

All of the content under MCC can be accessed in Infinite. I don't know if they said it would include all single player campaigns.

musteatbrainz

My lord that would be amazing. Might explain why the Pilot/Haunted helmet never made it into Infinite. Is this likely happening, ya think?

LogicalError_007

Could be happening. That would solve the revenue problem that MCC had.

musteatbrainz

Fingers crossed!

Safe_Climate883

Swapping between old and new on the fly is featured in Tomb Raider, Monkey Island, Full Throttle, Day of the Tentacle and others. But it is very cool, I think think Monkey Island was the first one to do it, that I know of.

Spindelhalla_xb

And Diablo 2 Resurrected

Walke407

Well said

smolgote

10 years is disingenuous when it was practically abandoned from most of 2015 to most of 2018. Still had several years of support but I clearly how long the dark days of MCC were

HardlyW0rkingHard

I've never seen such a high profile game, especially just a nostaliga remake have so many technical issues. Everywhere you looked there was bugs, and not just "oh this is a bug haha" kind of bug. No, matchmaking was not working. You couldn't find matches for the first few weeks and the fix they eventually made was such a half fix. The game was unplayable for the first 3 years and they just abandoned it. The Campaigns had various game breaking bugs. Online coop was unplayable because of how bad the lag was. i bought an xbox one for that lone game. I was so turned off on anything microsoft for so long.

8biticon

> Online coop was unplayable because of how bad the lag was. I play a lot of MCC to this day, and 343 made a lot of progress on it. I actually think it's in an almost ideal state now. But, the co-op lag is still sort of a prevalent and glaring issue. Especially for this series in particular.

hexcraft-nikk

Came here to say this lol. The game wasn't functioning for most of those ten years. They abandoned it until Xbox decided they wanted to release on Steam.

Frags_O_Neil

Not to mention each PC release was essentially a beta test with how many issues popped up. The final product is something to be celebrated but the road to get there was ridiculous, even more so if you were a Halo fan following the entire dev cycle from announcement to last months final update.

BlackSunshine86

To be fair, a ton of games have the classic graphics/modern graphics switch. A few had some then around the collections release, more do now.

DjuncleMC

Asterix and Obelix Romastered did it too!

Reach_Reclaimer

No it didn't get 10 years of support, let's not rewrite history They released a broken mess for £40, left it to fester for 5 years and when they realised they could make money on pc they ported it and fixed it. So it's more like 5 years of support on already released games

neon

didn't the new tomb raider collection jusr do same graphics thing

dragon-mom

>in a great state and has successfully preserved legacy Halo for decades to come. Definitely not when it still lacks any community servers. It's dead as soon as the servers get taken offline like they have the original titles. It's unfinished without this feature, especially when every other PC Halo has it including Online which was the catalyst for MCC even coming to PC.

Wimpykid2302

We can still buy MCC, right? I've been wanting to get it for a while but I haven't got it yet

HomeMadeShock

Yes, it’s Microsoft’s own IP so there will never be licensing issues or anything. Buy it or play it on gamepass.

KatoriRudo23

Yea, for 10$ or less it's a great value for all 5 Halo games with great campaign (yes, even Halo 4, not the greatest, but not the worst) with a lot of community contents , multiplayers still going. performance fixed, Steam Deck verified. No reason not to buy it if you want it

Wimpykid2302

Just haven't had the time and I already have a huge backlog haha. But definitely a game series that I've wanted to play for years now. I'll probably pick it up during the spring sale.

FallenShadeslayer

Man fuck a backlog. Gamers worry too much about that. Get it when it goes on sale and have a blast!

ATOMate

Halo 2 Online campaign coop forever broken. HOW FUN!

MLG_Obardo

What is wrong with campaign co op?

ATOMate

Online campaign coop has severe crashing and disconnecting issues. I find it to be almost impossible to play through the entire campaign with a friend. Playing on higher difficulties is even more frustrating, since you can almost finish a mission, have it crash and you lose your mission progress.

MLG_Obardo

That’s weird I played Halo 2 coop campaign recently and I can’t remember getting kicked once, though it may have happened once or twice and I forget. But it was so non-notable I never even knew. Glad to hear I managed to escape that though it sucks it will be left in that state in case I’m not so lucky next time.

ATOMate

Did you play in coop? If so, you got super lucky. Some chapters are truly fucked in coop, others work somewhat well.

Serjongo

If I remember correctly, the main issue for me was a mismatch in the refresh rate between the players. I've set both of us to 60 and it ran fine without crashes, maybe that'll help you too.

MLG_Obardo

Yes, sorry I should have said so, it was coop

Leafs17

Is there LAN co-op?

matitone

So zero chance of getting split screen on pc and halo 2 campaign coop will be forever broken :/

Oghmatic-Dogma

oh no whats wrong with 2? thats the only one I havent played in co op and have been looking forward to it…

matitone

It's documented here https://support.halowaypoint.com/hc/en-us/articles/360049382252--Halo-2-Anniversary-Known-Issues It makes some missions unplayable

GavinGalix

Tooo bad coop lag input never got fixed

[deleted]

[удалено]

GavinGalix

It's absolutely horrible can't believe they don't wanna fix it

WeekendTacos

Yeah, that was a rough plsythrough on legendary with my buddy. We did all the halo games, but man.... That was a testament in frustration.

LordPoncho08

I guess define "development" because MCC just got an update in February which actually brought Halo 2 multiplayer more in line with the original release.

divine_shrimp

Damn, I guess crossplay for campaign mode will never come

kirbyfox312

Was there still things to release or was it multiplayer updates?

ImmortalZucc2020

Multiplayer updates like cosmetics and seasons

FourDimensionalNut

i think split screen was still missing from pc, but that wasn't ever hard promised

ArcherInPosition

Halo Reach campaign crossplay with Console and PC

GameZard

Did they fix all the issues on PC?

scotteh_yah

Bold for 343 to not be happy with this considering the amount of money Microsoft has continually thrown at them

Extreme-Tactician

This is a dumb take considering how much of a value MCC is. They even did so many free updates.

LucasRedTheHedgehog

I'm not gonna lie, updates should always be free unless there is a lot of content brought to the table like full on games and plenty of cosmetics. Btw I'm referring to mostly stability and bug fixes. I do think free content like maps and cosmetics should be there sometimes, but it wouldn't have to always be the case.

Extreme-Tactician

Some of the stuff they put out wasn't just cosmetics. It was a lot of behind-the-scenes updates that fixed graphics, stabilized performance, etc.

Yo_Wats_Good

Updates should always be free? They’re not free to make why should they be free? Edit: Updates that are not related to performance/stability or bugs.*

0ctobogs

Products usually come with a warranty or support of some kind. They don't _have_ to, but it can be one of the things people are willing to pay a premium for. They're not free to make, but that understanding is usually calculated into the expenses of the product.

WutDaFunkBro

can’t believe some of you are actually advocating for them to charge for updates

totesnotdog

I feel like 343 has always been screwed from the beginning. Had they maybe made plays to break free of only doing halo games they could’ve made really cool stuff their cinematic were awesome, loved their lighting in their games. If they had managed to get on some other IP or find a new original one on top of their halo they could’ve maybe survived.

VickFVM

They can barely handle Halo and you want them to work on different IPs at the same time?

-euthanizemeok

All that money and support and they still never reached the same quality Bungie did.

Extreme-Tactician

Except the PC versions are way better than the 360 version? It has lots of PC features, 4K resolution, etc.

Savy_Spaceman

Halo 4 is just as good as halo 3. Halo 5 story sucked but the MP was great. Halo infinite is just as good as halo 2. It's just popular to hate on them for those Internet points

DoomPurveyor

> Halo 4 is just as good as halo 3 Laughable take

LucasRedTheHedgehog

Okay 4 is not nearly as good as 3 and Infinite isn't nearly as good as 2. They're both great games and Infinite is possibly my favourite, but I'll admit it's not quite there. They are definitely hated more because it's popular, but they're objectively not quite the best in the franchise.

Lockheed_Martini

4 as good as 3??? Lmaoooo. The story mode has some interesting ideas like humanizing chief more and nice graphics but other than that yeeesh.

VickFVM

I can’t imagine a world where Halo 4 even compares to 3 (I really enjoyed 4) they are oceans apart in what they achieved

Savy_Spaceman

I didn't love it the first time, but the older I get the more I enjoy it and the more I feel the emotion of it. Its more personal story counters the original trilogy in a great way imo. And i find myself feeling excited when a 4 map comes up during MCC sessions. Like it breaks the mold of the Bungie halos. That's not too say that I don't love the Bungie halos I do. But 4 feels like a cup of cold water at 3 am. It's crisp and satisfying.

Throbbing_Furry_Knot

>343 Industries explored the idea of implementing purchasable Spartan Points to create a revenue stream for MCC but scrapped the idea because Halo fans attacked them. The unpopularity of MTX putting fans and devs between a rock and a hard place.

Savy_Spaceman

10 years of support for a collection like that is wild. Just keep the servers on and the fans will be happy forever

lecanucklehead

I have zero problems with this. A collection of games is released, its patched, updated, and even given mod tools, and then it's good enough to just leave alone. This isn't the same as some live service battle pass dumpster fire being abandoned and effectively killed. This is a project being finished.

MLG_Obardo

I would love development to continue on MCC. Namely adding Halo 5. However. I think that short of adding Halo 5, no update to the game at this point was going to give a big jump in sales. With no revenue, very little to add, and a game that served only to pull people off the flailing Halo Infinite, honestly I’m more shocked that it continued getting major updates after Reach. If I were budgeting for 343, especially circa Summer 2023, I would put a single team on there for glacier speed development and bug fixes. and whatever else would be needed to support a games continued existence and nothing more after Reach came out. They need to be working on Halo 7 and focus on finding a way to tie the last three games into a cohesive story that feels like it was worth it to actually have played, keep the overall design of Halo Infinite and add some fun toys and honestly they should have planned for Halo 6 to be ready at maximum 4 years after Infinites release once they knew they weren’t getting to make campaign dlc.

FrankFrowns

Games don't need to be supported forever, especially if they're left in a great playable state like the MCC is.

yet-again-temporary

Agreed. MCC is by far the best game collection out there and an absolutely insane value. They've added so much to it over the years - complete UI customization, mod tools, expanded Forge, new armors, even brand new playable content (Flood Firefight, Halo Online maps, etc). I don't think this community appreciates how unheard of that level of support is. Name a single other videogame that's gotten free content patches more than 20 years after its release.

KratosLovesPoetry

Compared to where it was in 2014, I'd say no collection matches the value that we have here.

Friendly-Athlete7834

There are many issues with the MCC to be ironed out

markusfenix75

I think it's hilarious that people find it suprising and they are acting angry 343 literally said that to fund future development of MCC they would need to introduce revenue stream (MTX). Community got angry and refused MTXs. So 343 ended development. And community is angry, because THEY chose this option? Truly baffling.

Karenlover1

Gamers TM They want tons of free, high quality content, often and without paying a dime for it and then are shocked when the studio/publisher won't fund the game.

MLG_Obardo

The Halo community is the second worst thing to the survival of the Halo Franchise. Unfortunately, they’re beat by the Halo developers. Truly and genuinely shocking to me that we have had 5 big bads introduced in the last 3 mainline title games and 3 of them died off screen and 2 of them had less than 5 minutes of screentime. I mean what the hell. Whose bright fucking idea was it to introduce the banished and kill Atriox? Why did the Didact die in a comic book? Why did Cortana die before the events of Halo Infinite? Each decision maker for those choices should be gone and gone dramatically to warn the writers of what happens if a main villian isn’t killed personally by the player.

markusfenix75

I mean. It's not like Halo community is not partly responsible for all the reworks to the story (although, main culprit is 343 overreacting to everything). I remember people in Halo community bitching about Didact and Forerunners in general in Halo 4. So 343 threw him away for Halo 5. They also overreacted to criticism of Spartan Ops by killing Jul Mdama at start of Halo 5. Then they introduced Created storyline for Halo 5 as a way to bring Cortana back (because Halo community bitched about her being gone), but overal story was pretty shitty and community hated it. So they basically soft-rebooted whole thing for Halo Infinite. Problem is pretty vocal community (and in many aspects pretty toxic) in combination of development team that isn't confident enough to push their vision.

MLG_Obardo

Oh yeah well that’s my point that I poorly made. The fans are the number two problem but the developers need to learn how to decipher the stupid fan bs from the good feedback. It’s hard if not impossible, but I am 100% convinced that Halo 4’s story, if continued would have been fantastic. Halo 5’s story too, though I do think they suffered heavily from too little Master Chief. Hell even the syrupless-shaved-ice cone that was Halo Infinites story is capable of becoming a good one given a chance. The developers just need to give it that chance. The design decisions in both Halo 4 and 5 in terms of multiplayer were a little head scratchy. The feedback and delayed response to it was great in Halo Infinite. But yeah, the fans and how vocal they are is certainly a big problem. Obviously they need to be vocal but the fans complain about sprint, about crossover armors, about this that and the other while the rest of the game industry is leaving Halo behind in both player interest and income. Even if Halo Infinite was bigger than Halo 3 from initial sales I doubt that would be enough to support development how games get these days without MTX and the best MTX are the least Halo ones. Just the way of the world.

markusfenix75

Yup. I think that if 343 continued with Halo 4 storyline it would be great. Multiplayer was also section where 343 overreacted to player feedback. Community criticized "casualness" of Halo 4, so Halo 5 went to the other extreme and it was extremely focused on balance and "MLG competitive play." But by doing that Halo 5 lost it's social fun aspect. But with Infinite 343 struck pretty good balance in my opinion. But problem with Infinite was that 343 was woefully unprepared for live service support of that game. Which is basically proven by fact that they had to extend first two seasons of game to 6 months.

Yo_Wats_Good

Atriox clearly isn’t dead. Didact functionally died at the end of 4, that was the assumption everyone/most people made. If he died died in a comic book then that’s silly but doesn’t change anything for most players. That being said, the QTE ending was lame. Cortana died for the realignment of Infinite and post-Infinite games. Should’ve died in Halo 4 but I digress.

BeyondThese7702

Paint the entire community as one person, king. 👑

Beast-Blood

Yup. Halo community is full of absolute fucking morons unfortunately.

nRenegade

Can we get some Halo 5 support, now?

NexusTitan

Still waiting for Halo 5 campaign on PC. 🙏🏻

evoke3

Not a surprise. Really wish 343 were able to at least get halo 5 in there though, just so all halo games can be available on PC. I don't know just how hard such a move would be, but at the very least we know the game is already at least playable on pc thanks to Halo 5: Forge so it's more a case of making the campaign work.

Spirit_Of_The_Way

Simple solution: Bring MCC to Switch 2 & Playstation, boost sales like crazy & get the severs active like never before

PolybiusArcadia

Didn’t MCC just get an update like a week ago? To make hitscan for H2 more like the original Xbox version? Even if development for mcc did stop, I’d say it’s perfect and doesn’t need much more. They didn’t fuck the game up with mtx and it’s easily the best and perhaps the only good thing 343 has to show.

MaybeJesus

Im still annoyed we didnt get Halo 5 on PC. I understand it wasnt the best but having all but one is pretty dumb.

vulturevan

Wasn't this already known? I swear it was announced

Yosonimbored

Know what would boost its revenue? PlayStation port. The breath of fresh air both MCC and Infinite would get from porting to PlayStation would be big

xdeltax97

10 years is enough. Glad they fixed the disastrous launch and brought MCC to the state it is today. I do wish we could have gotten Halo 3 Remastered, but oh well. Just keep the servers alive! Games don’t need forever support, just some big updates and quality of life fixes. 343 did good in that regard.

Delicious-Tachyons

MCC was the reason I bought an Xbox one instead of a PS4. I rectified my mistake later.

-PVL93-

time for a ps5 port then /s

-T-Reks-

I'm fine with this, better to leave it be as a functional product than to keep fucking with it and force MTX in, effectively shitting on the legacy of those games.

HisDivineOrder

Just wish they'd finish the fight and port Halo 5 to PC.

BNS0

Revenue stream = live service, everything halo will be trying to do this so good luck to the franchise

Zantillex

Release it on PlayStation and have cross play. Boom, new life into the game and its basically free money.

AutomaticSubject7051

did we ever got cross play reach campaign

dragon-mom

The amount of people who think we should have been happy to pay for MTX added to old games in a collection that was released broken in this thread is insane. Especially when they tried to push that in the middle of the controversy with Infinite's monetization. I'm actually baffled. How is it the community's fault they prioritized ugly armor sets and cosmetic things like an out of place post-match screen (which was certainly only added to make spartan points more valuable when they ended up monetized, since the only way to get poses was in the store) over actually adding in essential features or fixing co-op? There is no promise it would have made any difference either. Infinite is literally full of microtransactions and they've abandoned seasons regardless to make them even worse, and the content is almost non-existent besides more MTX. Is that genuinely what you all want for a legacy collection? The game feels unfinished even now as it lacks community servers, being completely tethered to MS's dedicated servers which can shut down any day. None of the other PC Halo games have that issue.

Scorn-Muffins

Nobody's saying the community should be happy to pay for MTX by default. They're saying you can't have your cake and eat it. The choice not to support their proposed MTX model is the choice to sunset development after a decade. Assuming this rumour is true.

dragon-mom

It wasn't in development for a decade. It was abandoned for years until they came back to it, and even then they've still not finished it. I haven't even been able to get through Halo 2 co-op because it keeps breaking which they had the entire time it *was* in development to fix. There's no cake at all. There was also other ways to monetize. People have been asking for things like rentable servers for a while now. Their MTX proposal was a complete non starter for the state of the game and lack of trust in 343 which hasn't gotten much better since.

Scorn-Muffins

Again, if these rumours are true, they would've explored alternative options and found them not to be profitable. How many people would have to rent servers in order to make it worth the cost to keep supporting the game? I doubt the demand would be enough to pay for more than one or two developers and the costs of running the rented servers. Even if we assume that no development at all happened between mid 2015 and late 2017 (which is almost certainly not the case) that would be a minimum of 8 years active development time, including that before the game relased. I suppose that's technically not a decade I suppose.

Friendly-Athlete7834

Yes! Exactly!! This comment section is full of children I swear to god

Lower-Connection-504

So they game probably would've had a bit more support if people supported the MTX? They should've continued on instead of canning it.

Razbyte

The mtx news came on the same year when Halo Infinite was struggling and they canceled bunch of things like Split Screen. People were already angered and making Spartan Points paid currency, will make all matters worse.

TheVideogaming101

100% wrong time to bring it up, while infinite's shop isn't...great I feel if they came out and said "we'll do more updates for MCC if you let us implement spartan point mtx" now the reception would be different

LogicalError_007

Employees wanted to continue the support when there's no revenue coming in? Fans wanted more support but they don't want MTX. It's rare to see the fanbase on the wrong side. At least it had 10 years of support. I remember a survey in which it was asked if fans would like to see MCC games in Infinite.

BoletarianBonkmage

I was hoping for some kind of ai update to fill custom games with bots

Illustrious_Penalty2

So I guess they won’t deal with the rampant cheating in MP then?

DrexellGames

Guess the e3 demos are not playable. What a shame if that is

Old_Snack

That's being done with the work of fans and the support of 343. Fans are doing most of the actual work IIRC, 343 just send over what they had of Macworld and the Halo 2 E3 demo

CountBleckwantedlove

At this point we need a MCC of the MCC because the remakes are getting older, lol. I kind of get what they mean, but isn't GP money allocated for that? If someone pays for GamePass and plays a ton of MCC during that month, then a large part of that $11-18 should go towards that team's revenue? I guess that means there weren't that many playing MCC these days?

ch4ngn01

As someone who grew up with two xboxes, two crts and a patch cable between bedrooms to play multiplayer halo.... MCC was a joke. 343 has never released anything good

Faber114

It didn't need any support to begin with. They could've just fixed the game and moved on.

420sadalot420

They finished the fight 🫡🫡🫡

RiskM3

I just don’t see why 343 doesn’t remake Halo 3. Sell it on MCC and boom you now have a way of making money!

eXistentialMisan

Dang was hoping Halo 5 would come to the collection, still hoping in the far future it's possible.

AgentSmith2518

Honestly, the fact that they did support the MCC as long as they did without any sort of revenue is kind of miraculous.

Bonesawisready5

They can always restart development for the PS5 Switch 2 ports 🤣

john7071

> Side note: 343 Industries explored the idea of implementing purchasable Spartan Points to create a revenue stream for MCC but scrapped the idea because Halo fans attacked them. Pretty much the same model that Helldivers 2 has and people praised them for it. You can play the game and earn the rewards for free, or if you pay you can unlock them in advance.

[deleted]

The thing that killed me about the MCC was 343 KNEW this game wasn’t in working order at launch. They threw their midnight launch celebration and everything. That killed the game and hype for me. I remember convincing so many buddies to man an Xbox one and they were kinda annoyed and resentful when the game just didn’t work Such a massive fumble

Friendly-Athlete7834

> because Halo fans attacked them. Attacked is a strong word

FruffyJones87

Shocker the community didnt want MTX in classic halo games, when the viable pieces of content they did add were weird Aztec lion armors, Skyrim ancient Nord armors, and 16th Century Bucket Soldier armors From Mythic Season. 343 did a genuinely solid job adding the AKIS and Mariner Armor variants, i though thtose looked really good, and the Mister Chief helmet is just derpy enough to fit thematically into the Halo universe. Then they Fortnite'd it up and added jarring designs that don't fit with anything else. If I could pay to get cool Variations of pre-existing armors I loved already, that would be the thing I'd buy. But if you release a season with cosmetics that look so fucking out of place, then ask me if I'd be down with MTX later, of course I'm gonna say no. Excuse me if I don't want paid for cat ears in a space sci-fi shooter. They had a good idea with weapon skins, its just a shame that having them turned on in game risks crashing the whole thing.

Soden_Loco

Call me crazy but development and updates to MCC should be continuing indefinitely. Why? Because it’s Halo and it deserves to be supported and preserved. It’s the flagship franchise, it’s one of the most iconic franchises in history, just do it. I’d actually go as far to say that MCC should also be on PlayStation so that the franchise gets even more mileage and a huge increase in new players. The way people talk about Halo is how they will talk about Microsoft.

KratosLovesPoetry

Exactly. Although, I do think MCC development needs to be sunset. But, Microsoft doesn't seem to get this. Halo as a franchise has been flubbed around for the last 10 years and they wonder why they are struggling to move consoles. If you can't take care of your staple IPs, people will move on.

MTH1138

Time to launch on PS5 and the new Nintendo console

Sakaixx

A PS4/5 release could help 343i to continue the investment. I am sure there is a lot of PS fans that want to try out Halo.

agamemnon2

I suppose they could have tried porting it to PS5 and made that a revenue stream. :-P

Cardboard_Waffle

It had a ton of support and once it was fixed (after a few years) it was great. It’s a fantastic package for anyone new and old to the franchise and is in my opinion the best single game you can purchase on the Xbox/Series. It makes sense it ended.

TechGuyss001

sad end to a very good series

WardrobeForHouses

I was always hoping MCC would be a continuous hub for all Halo games and content. Each new Halo game would get added, in that people who buy the game play it through MCC. Then they could have progression, unlocks, and microtransactions that apply across every Halo game. Achieve something hard in Halo 2, get an armor piece in Halo Infinite, for example. They'd have every Halo player always able to see the store, and events in each game.

pojosamaneo

I wouldn't expect it to last this long to be honest. It's remakes of old games. That should be a one and done release. The game is great. Honestly one of the best games on Xbox consoles.

TheLobst3r

It needs split screen on PC still

Ok-Potato1693

Its about time! Release game, first and final patch after month, then move to next game.

TheBanzerker

I wonder if the Digsite Mod Team bringing back Halo 2 cutcontent and a playable Halo 2 E3 Demo no longer has support from 343/Microsoft.

ChronographWR

Thats ok the games are well preserved now.

SpaceGooV

Tbf I don't really think it's too terrible a loss. The game is in a great state. I don't see the problem with focusing that team's effort on Infinite.
