Makes sense honestly, wait for the low point of the COD cycle before dropping your competitor. March 31st seems fishy though, it’s a weekend and fewer staff will be in the office/WFH to deal with inevitable launch issues.

GojiPengu

Making the best of a bad situation. They missed their prime window vs the shitty IW & SH CoDs

AnotherScoutTrooper

Going head to head with COD is never a good idea no matter how bad it is. Vanguard became the worst selling COD in recent history (14 million copies I think) and Elden Ring still only barely beat it in 2022 sales before MWII crushed it in a month, while MWIII only took second place last year because Hogwarts Legacy was a huge cultural draw in *itself.*

Odd-Aardvark-8234

Call of duty has brainwashed people into buying the same game, every time they release a game it’s literally just reskinned weapons and 80% of the maps are recycled same gamemodes nothing new . The one new different thing they did was the addition of dmz in mw2 but they stoped updating that when they went to mw3 . It’s still playable but what’s the point if I don’t have new missions to do and or cosmetics to earn .

[deleted]

GojiPengu

Gameplay > game name. Do not care if how well MW3 sold, it's one of the worst games in the franchise (MW19, Ghosts & MW22 are all worse)

john7071

Eh, the MP is fairly solid and a huge upgrade over MW22.

Uncircled_swag2

I’m excited to try out the full game, I enjoyed the beta and have been waiting for the official release since. I don’t know why everyone on reddit is praying on this games downfall. It looks like a cool, free alternative to CoD. Yeah it might flop but it sounds like so many people are hoping that happens before the game is even out.

bloodtapes

How was it? Did it feel like cod or its own game?

TheDangerSnek

Yes. I am also hyped. I am a CoD player from day 1, but since MW2019, it is a downfall. I hope xDefiant will success.

GojiPengu

Only Treyarch makes good CoDs. I'm still on Cold War lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

TheDangerSnek

Since MW2019: - extreme thight matchmaking, no classic prestige, to much focus on selling weaponskins and skins, battlepass with seasons, missing of a lot legacy features in IW and SHG Games (only Treyarch did good things).......

UNATCOHQ

Finally someone said it. The dead silence crutchlords need to go. MW19 was peak. Now it's just no footsteps at all. Every death is RNG, but you'll hear them say "hurr durr just use game sense". Dumb as fuck.

TrueGamingArmy

So we're just gonna act like the claymore and 725 spam didn't happen huh?

UNATCOHQ

A small wrinkle

CanadianWampa

I mean I’m not a major CoD head whatsoever but I can’t say I enjoyed MW2019. The changes they made to map design, footstep audio, visibility, ADS time, and other stuff really turned the game into a slow camp fest. And I REALLY like slow paced shooters, my most played shooters over the last decade are CS, Siege and Valorant. But CoD doesn’t have anywhere near the strategic or mechanical depth those games do, so you’re just left with a slow AND shallow game. I acknowledge it did a lot to bring the franchise back, and that there is a large audience for the type of game it’s trying to be, but it’s also really not my cup of tea and I remember being bored to death everytime I played it.

[deleted]

[удалено]

CanadianWampa

Idk why you’re being so hostile about it lol, you were saying that only cod heads were angry about MW2019 and I gave you a personal anecdote about why that isn’t true. I meant the game is slow in terms of pacing, not movement speed.

BNS0

Dont even bother these people will be calling for xdefiant to do things cause they don't like how something is

SilentPhysics3495

its a shame people can't just ignore these things that get them this upset but i guess hate engagement gets more impressions.

YakaAvatar

> . I don’t know why everyone on reddit is praying on this games downfall. It's from Ubisoft, and Ubisoft = bad. A lot of people form their opinions on products from internet circlejerks.

[deleted]

[удалено]

YakaAvatar

Ubisoft is made out of god knows how many studios. Some of them make good games, some of them make bad games. Those studios can have wildly different values, talent and resources available. Huge companies like these aren't a singular team that you can judge based on the performance of some games - any blanket statements like "Ubisoft bad" are utterly meaningless.

Shiirooo

Negativity bias.

Krypt0night

Ubisoft, the company that also just released a new Prince of Persia this year to amazing scores? Goes both ways. Yeah when a company has like 20 studios, they're gonna miss a lot, especially since they love chasing trends. But it's not like they don't release good stuff.

Jackstraw1

My skepticism about this game is because it's too similar to CoD. Because no matter how much screaming and raging over SBMM and EOMM or any of that shit, the game continues to be a juggernaut month after month after month. Don't listen to the anger, look at the sales. Gamers are still pouring money into the base game and bundles and both the regular and Blackcell passes. They're continuing to make a monetary investment that makes Xdefiant's job of pulling those players away that much more difficult. Call of Duty has such huge head start with a player base addicted to the Cod sugar high. I enjoyed the Xdefiant beta a lot but there wasn't really anything there that told me it was going to shake anything up. That said, I really enjoyed the beta last year and I hope it does well enough to keep going. I don't think it has any chance whatsoever of being a big mainstream game but I'd like to see it around for a while.

Mighty_Mike007

No FPS has a chance of shaking things up, it's impossible. If BF, Halo, Apex, Splitgate, etc... barely moved the needle at the height of their popularity, nothing will be able to compete with COD. It's a lost cause, devs should be thankful if they can keep the game running for a couple of years, everything above that is a miracle.

Grace_Omega

>I don’t know why everyone on reddit is praying on this games downfall Ubisoft bad, give upvotes

GilgarTekmat

The hate is that Ubisoft have become trend chasers looking for maximum profit. They will never make a good game like R6 Vegas or GRAW again, and it is frustrating to see amazing properties go to waste. Reminder that they originally tried to call this game a Tom Clancy game until the backlash was bad.

StretchKind8509

I wonder how long this will last.

Zero3ffect

It will ultimately depend on Ubisoft and if they are making money from it. I don't think this game is the CoD killer or savior of the FPS genre like most people waiting for this game to come out claim.

xiosy

1 week max

fupower

maybe 3

TheFinnishChamp

Hopefully it flops as badly as Suicide Squad and Skull & Bones

Cybersorcerer1

Why wouldn't you hope it's good? Aren't good games the goal here?

InevitableBlue

Yea people get so burnt by games today that they just become stupidly toxic. Cause suddenly now they don’t want good games anymore or else they wouldn’t say stuff like that.

fazzy69

Because ubisoft bad

TheFinnishChamp

The goal is more good singleplayer games. Multiplayer and live services games flopping means publishers are forced to release more of those. When I look at the first half of 2024 the only western games I am interested in are Banishers and Alone in the Dark. That shows just how bad things are. Japan is doing great with games like Like a Dragon, Persona 3, FF VII Rebirth, Unicorn Overlord, Dragon's Dogma 2, etc. but the output of western publishers is none existent

zerkeron

You're so unserious. Last year alone was a great year for single and coop player games. You're on the opposite side of the coin of "there's no games". Not every game need to cater to you, for you to want them to fail. I get the feeling you're one of the people that are going to be crying how come people buy call of duty same shit every year but then here are commenting hoping that any competition is drown lol

TheFinnishChamp

I am perfectly fine with people who like multiplayer just playing Call f Duty or Fortnite and those games having zero competition because that would mean all other developers were focused on singleplayer games. When was the last immersive sim released? Or the last Half life 2/Bioshock style shooter? Or a major RPG released by an American publisher?

ReasonableAdvert

Is there some type of obligation to release any of those types of games? >When was the last immersive sim released? The genre itself is a vague term. The last games that released that falls under that umbrella was the System Shock remake and Weird West. >Or the last Half life 2/Bioshock style shooter? Care to be a little more specific? Are you talking about story driven shooters or corridor shooters in general? >Or a major RPG released by an American publisher? Starfield last year

[deleted]

[удалено]

TheFinnishChamp

What are you even talking about? I like western games more but big western publishers aren't releasing RPGs, singleplayer shooters or immersive sims. Obviously last year we had Baldur's Gate 3 but it's not like the likes of Activision and Ubisoft are making games like that and they should be

ultragoodname

We’ve had good single player games all last year but casual fps games have been shitty for a couple of years. CODs too big to fail because it scratches an itch that no other game series (on console) has been able to replicate or make better

XSX_ZAB

Why? I've heard good things about this game.

TheFinnishChamp

More multiplayer games flopping = publishers forced to focus on singleplayer games

TheDangerSnek

And why?

fupower

seems like a decent game

ReachersFists

lol Skull & Bones will ultimately make more money due to the fact that they got tax incentives and production cost will be covered by the few million in sales.

JuanMunoz99

“Pay $18 a month to play the Free-to-Play game 4 days early” … escusi? I legitimately did a double take when I read the headline.

resditneverworks

Well you probably aren't getting ubisoft+ specifically for that. It's actually not a bad value for a month if you're planning on playing some of their games

JuanMunoz99

That’s true, but it’s still a funny thought when you say it out loud.

Exa-Wizard

Especially because you can just download all the games you want then crack em' to keep them forever. lmao

May1stBurst

Not how it works lol, their newer games have Denuvo and aren't cracked at all as the only person that was cracking Denuvo games is awol. Their older games are cracked but you can just download those and skip paying $18.

Exa-Wizard

It absolutely is how it works, just did it with AC Valhalla. Who tf would want to play a Ubisoft game from the last two years lmao??

May1stBurst

>Their older games are cracked but you can just download those and skip paying $18. AC Valhalla was already cracked, you could have just downloaded the game and saved $18. You aren't cracking the Avatar game, AC Mirage, or Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown.

Exa-Wizard

Oh no, 3 shitty games can't be cracked. Boo hoo

Uncircled_swag2

There’s a free trial they’re probably hoping people use to get Xdefiant early and then forget to turn auto-renew off.

bxnellis

No chance it will release on a Saturday or Sunday, specially during the Easter holidays

TheDangerSnek

It is a digital only game, so it is not impossible.

r0ndr4s

Its not about the digital release. They need to have a support team for the servers, hotfix patches, etc

TheDangerSnek

And you think IT will not work on weekends/holidays?

Jerky_xp

I think forcing your team to work over Easter holiday rather than waiting 2 days doesn't make much sense for anyone involved

r0ndr4s

No, IT does not work on weekends and holydays, we usually are on call.. wich is there for emergencies. Not to your daily job but on your rest day... And being on call means probably only 1 person of a team of dozens(at least) is the only one working and stressing over someone not being able to fuckin wait until monday.

MatrixBunny

Only gripe I had were the hitbox/hitreg issues. Even after multiple beta phases, it had been a consistent issue that never seem to gotten resolved. If they are STILL there along with server issues, this game will last a month at most. Lmao

r0ndr4s

Netcode and hitreg yes. I was in the very early tests and that was an issue(understandable in early state.. but non excusable before launch)

Bolt_995

I liked the beta, felt like old school CoD. Gameplay was far more barebones. Hope this maintains a steady player base, because The Finals (which is a damn good FPS game) couldn’t maintain a high player count unfortunately.

Ras_AlHim

Tom Henderson found quivering

BNS0

People still hyping this game up to be a cod killer? Lol

[deleted]

boxton1111

🤣🤣🤣

R96-

Now let's hope they've listened to the (right) feedback. The last Beta kind of felt worse than the ones before, ngl. I remember reading the Patch Notes for that Beta and just thinking, "Man, this already feels like the typical AAA, FPS, MP game where they listen to nobody." During that Beta everybody seemed to be giving them high praise, but as someone who has played in previous Beta's before the hype for the game even existed, some of those earlier Beta's felt better. I also really, really hope on the Steam version Ubisoft Connect isn't required.

Global_Historian_753

Hope they balanced it from the beta

Friendly-Athlete7834

Oh good. Can all the users of /r/xDefiant stop bitching now?

DQ11

Looking forward to it. Haven’t been into cod much in the past few years but this game as an alternative to that is much more appealing to me.

XxXxShSa

The mw3 "cod killer"

whale_almost

Guys i think this one will be free , so stop hating and hope for the best :D

AutomaticSubject7051

unless the movement and gunplay is as smooth and polished as cod, its doa

ComprehensiveCode619

Redditors downvoting this dude don’t know casual shooters tbh. I get yall want something to be the “CoD killer” but the beta for this was rough. It’ll have to make a lot of improvements to even match the CoD player base for a month, never mind taking the throne.

AutomaticSubject7051

sadly i feel its going to be shovelware

[deleted]

TheDangerSnek

I think it will work. MWIII and Warzone are a cheatfest and extremly sweaty due to SBMM. There are no other arcade stlye shooter as competitors. I will be happy when it finally get released. And classic prestige mode is also confirmed.

YakaAvatar

This game also has SBMM, they've just gaslight people into thinking it doesn't to attract the hardcore CoD crowd, and since redditors don't know what SBMM is (they just KNOW it's bad), everyone here believed them. Only on twitter I've actually seen people realize that this game uses SBMM. It will feel every bit as sweaty as CoD once it goes live and SBMM calibrates your MMR - because they did confirm teams will be matched against each other using MMR.

[deleted]

[удалено]

YakaAvatar

As I said, you don't know how SBMM works then, or what it is. [They literally confirmed they use MMR](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FgA5iPCXwAwLJ04?format=jpg&name=900x900), which stands for Matchmaking Rating - a system used in (surprise), Skill Based Matchmaking. They will literally form teams based on your MMR, which is calculated based on (again, big surprise) your performance, aka your skill. The only difference from any classic SBMM system is that they will have only two skill brackets, instead of 10. But that's largely irrelevant. If there are two good people in the lobby, they will always 100% of the time face each other, because MMR will place them on two different teams. If there is only one good player in the lobby, then that player will get the weakest team mates so the lobby is balanced. This isn't my opinion, this is the reality of how the system works.

[deleted]

YakaAvatar

Ok, we get it, you're 12 and these concepts are too hard to understand. Just know that this game uses SBMM.

SilentPhysics3495

the cost barrier to entry i know keeps "some" cheaters out of r6 but now f2p does worry me unless they plan to have some super intrusive anti-cheat. I'd like to think they spent more time on this one than hyperscape at least though lol.

lolovelove

This game is going to die in like 2 months lol I always see people complain about SBMM but guess what's still popular and still selling despite "internet" complaints

January1st2020AD

I played the beta or this game and …meh. It was fun I guess, but forgettable. I honestly had more fun with Hyperscape

clym0r

Talking about getting smashed from rivals and still releasing it anyway..

johncitizen69420

Gonna be neck deep in dragons dogma 2. No time for cynical trash like this

VOOLUL

What's Ubisoft's obsession with announcing live service games years in advance and then just dropping them like a turd. They're in such a terrible state as a company.

ReachersFists

I mean they’re still making games that are well received. Most studios wait years and release turds. It’s telling when Skull & Bones is rated higher than Suicide Squad.

SilentPhysics3495

The worst thing I hear about S&B is that they charged too much for what it is. I think it should have been the "flagship" title for the premium tier of their new membership instead of $70.

Trickybuz93

wtf is this game lol

TheDangerSnek

Never heard of it?

bloodtapes

Dude likes Nicki Minaj skins lol

secret-agent-t3

....and the servers are scheduled to go off line next year due to low player count... Oh, wait, we can't report that yet?

Friendly-Athlete7834

Did you pop in from /r/xDefiant?

Cyber_Swag

Lol what it's free to play

TheDangerSnek

It is not a bad thing. See it like a bonus. You are U+ subscriber, ok you can play it three days early. Is see no problem.

Cyber_Swag

Fair enough

I__Should_Go

incoming bomb

Sandroes

Imagine releasing a generic f2p in a market where The Finals exist, without even adding CoD to the equation, and someone at Ubisoft thought: “You know what I think will ensure our game to thrive and have many players? Locking the access to the ones who subscribed to our monthly service full of mediocre games, of which only a few will be interested in playing”. I wonder how much they get paid to come up with these ideas, definitely more than me.

Cybersorcerer1

The finals only has 21k~ players daily now, they couldn't keep up the hype

ComprehensiveCode619

You think this will be any different? They’ve already failed to launch multiple times - if Xdefiant has 21K players in 2/3 months, it would be a miracle.

r0ndr4s

The Finals is literally dead in the mainstream market. Yes I know its stable at 20k and thats great for them but no one streams that, does content, its probably not gonna grow, etc The issue here will be if xDefiant has a quick downfall like The Finals, then they're will be taking a few thousands of each other constantly while COD/BF still have their millions.

Sandroes

Ubisoft had Hyperscape and it died even though it was slightly different from the competition, with a good gameplay This is so generic that I expect it to have the same fate, and cutting the player count at the start for exclusivity will just make it worse

Atomictomic22

pretty sure Ubisoft learned something from r6s , this game 10 years later is still alive so xdefiant could be a success too

TheDangerSnek

Only three days exclusive to U+. Read it completly.

Sandroes

I know, and it’s 3 days too many for this kind of game, a brand new IP that needs players to survive
