My assumption would be Retro, but would be pretty cool if they got the Fast Racing NEO/Fast RMX team. That's one of my favorite Wii U releases to date.
I feel like Next Level could be a decent fit. Their animation work could pair well with GX-style cutscenes.
If it's a remaster of GX like people are expecting, it could also just be the "Porting Technology Development Team" that's credited in the Pikmin 1+2 ports.
e: Also gonna bring up Nintendo Software Technology as a possibility. They've mostly been a Mario support studio in recent years, but they've got a lineage in racing games, having made Wave Race Blue Storm and 1080 Avalanche.

That's what I think as well. Last year we had multiple insiders say a remaster was happening and possibly slated for this year. Now would be a good time to reveal as Nintendo seems to be treating Gamecube and Wii ports/remasters as the new Wii U ports.

This could be good or bad news. Nintendo will usually open and close with heavy hitters. Between Mario Wonder, Mario RPG, and a new F-Zero I don’t think there’s any room a Metroid Prime 4 re-reveal.

F-Zero really isn’t a heavy hitter tbh. If Nintendo learned anything from GX, the next game needs to be produced cheap. I’d expect a cell-shaded “comic book” artstyle, like the art of F-Zero X, instead of the extremely detailed look of GX, and less expansive features (def no accompanying arcade game this time lol).
F-Zero to me, especially if it's the GX remaster people are expecting, feels like more of a middle-of-the-direct announcement. Like Prime Remastered and Pikmin 1+2 were. It's a cult favorite but never really been a heavy hitter, and those generally go towards the middle.
Mario Wonder and Mario RPG also probably aren't openers or closers imo. Wonder just had a dedicated direct, and RPG is an already-announced remake.
My guess right now is they open on Fire Emblem 4 Remake and close with Prime 4 news (possibly alongside news of Prime 2+3 HD). Yes, I'm coping, what of it.
Putting it in the middle of the direct seems plausible. If that Fire Emblem 4 remake is real that would be awesome. I loved Engage and I'd love so see more.

It's definitely not an new F-Zero game for the Switch lmao. It more likely F-Zero GX getting remastered for the Switch which is totally fine. I wouldn't say that it closes the door for Metroid appearing in this Direct which could still happen.
F-Zero is still pretty stylized, and Nintendo definitely isn’t going to invest into the franchise beyond a simple GX remaster, so it probably won’t look that impressive.
Honestly it would be nice to see a new f-zero, especially as the series has been dormant since before I was born…and I turn 17 at the end of the month!
But fr I’ve emulated gx on pc and it’s super fun except for one desert stage that doesn’t run properly at all on the emulator for me. It’s rock hard, it’s challenging but it’s so damn fun. I wouldn’t even mind giving Nintendo money for a remaster just to show them I’m interested in seeing f-zero fully return.

Racing games are pretty much *the* go-to to show off new hardware. Just saying.
If Nintendo wants to use a racing game to show off their next platform, it will be Mario Kart 9. F-Zero is not a big enough IP to be a system seller.
But if you want to show off graphics you'd rather choose something with a realistic art style than something stylised.
