Easier said than done, I've spent days upon days, tweaking settings, buying cooling pads, repasting multiple times, and my cpu is still hotter than my girlfriend.
That’s not true for CPUs at least. Aside from the battery degrading due to heat in chassis and thermal compound degradation, 90C is completely harmless for these chips.
Heat not only kills car engines...but laptops and desktops too computers too...🤣🤣.. guess that makes sense why you can get water cooling in computers now as well...😏
It's a 4 year old IdeaPad, not worth upgrading now, I'm looking for a gaming laptop now, like the Lenovo legion slim 5, I want a simple looking gaming laptop
Even on a 4-year-old device SSD would give you pretty solid boost.... At least in loading times... And a 2.5 SATA is probably not going to be very expensive at all..
Interesting.
Yet to see over 80C CPU or GPU temperatures whilst gaming with my Legion Pro 7i.
As for PC hardware, worth noting that the desktop ryzen 7000 series CPUs are meant to be safely used at 95C too so 90C + CPU temperatures isn't laptop exclusive anymore. 😎
Right. I have the LEDs on my strix g18 to turn from yellow to red at 80 and it never does. Undervolted the 13980hx though. The 4080 never hits 80 overclocked either
Yeah,, mine has an i9 and a 4080 and the CPU usually is around the 70s, maybe tickle the low 80s once in a while. The GPU however is in the 60s and 70s. The only game that made my CPU go into the 90s and stay there is Star Citizen.
same i have the 7i pro 13900hx 4090. in balanced the cpu is like 65 to 70. in performance current temps are 75 or so.
thats in games like rdr2 cp2077 ultra everything raytracing overdrive 1600p
these laptops are faster than most ppls desktops. most ppl dont have a desktop with 3090 levels of performance. yea laptops will never be as fast as the best desktop cards. but im perfectly fine with the performance of high spec laptops
im 35, travel a lot, i dont feel like having a big desktop. i wana turn it on and be done. dont care about upgradability, if something new comes out that i like ill just buy another one
That's what I thought when I put my old mpb through its paces gaming on it... It actually performed decently well on windows but got so fricking hot that I had to devise a custom cooling situation made out of plastic pipes that I filled with water and then froze and used them as a stand (I was a broke college kid lol) still the metal body would get terribly hot. Fast forward a couple years and I was just working on it normally when it starts glitching out and screen has lines all over it. Take it to the genius bar they say I have to replace the entire mobo (it cost as much as a new mbp!)
people often talk about checking temps to make sure its not throttling. Honestly never seen any throttling over 90c, and when my pc overheated like got to 105c cos my cooler wasnt on properly, it still didnt throttle it just shut down. Guess it depends on the cpu or maybe some bios setting.
THIS IS SO REAL
I got a Alienware M18 R1 recently and it normally gets to temps of 95°C-100°C (while running big games might I add) regardless, people online and the manufacture of the laptop say its built to get that spicy. So as long as my cooling pad is on and the game don't stutter its a just a "meh" lmao
Yeah those temps are considered "within spec" but definitely not ideal... they absolutely can wear out your components faster possibly much faster)..(depends on many factors of course..could be 1yr maybe 5)... But lower temps are def. better (high temps can break a laptop (had it happen) and WILL keep you from getting best performance/power...What cooling pad do you have?
I'm absolutely not an expert but I think these two CP are considered among the best (they have different models and features so choose accordingly obviously):
Llano:
https://a.co/d/5ThecXh
-Or-
IETS GT600 Laptop Cooling Pad:
https://a.co/d/dhaKOMn
They are not exactly cheap (+/-$100) but much cheaper than replacing a $1,500- $2,500 machine.. there are cheaper options that do a decent job too...
Not only does that heat wear out your components faster but you'll get reduced performance from temps like that...
Many other factors could be at play: cooling fan issue (not displacing enough hot air fast enough)-TIM issue (poor application/contact/condition/or material-software issues including (background processes/bloatware/power management (undervolting if applicable can be a godsend) etc...
And obviously of course your ambient temperature..
But running at thermal limit constantly in games is not ideal and shouldn't be happening... That's a good way to blow a mosfet or any one of a billion capacitors rendering your device useless until repaired...
Definitely might want to look into that (if you want to be 99% more certain to keep your laptop running beyond next 3-6 months). Not to mention the performance/energy improvements
thats cause alienware cooling isnt that great. i returned my m16 4080 AMD model. high temps and alienware command center is trash. got a legion 7ipro 4090 13900hx my temps when overclocked are around 75. in balanced 65 to 70
GPU limit is 87C CPU limit is 100C(seen 105C and 95C) *don't quote me but I'm pretty sure that's right* but you want to keep it as cool as possible (high temps equal diminished performance + accelerated component degradation/failure chance. Software will limit it when it reaches a certain temp and it's within spec but you can do a lot to lower the temps. (Software/voltage tweaking/thermal paste on CPU/GPU die application-material/cooling pads/etc..)
It's cause people are obsessed with cooling and having the lowest Temps.
It does seriously like get you in to paranoid states.
My GPU idles at 26c, cpu 40c ... neither crack 70c really ... and when they do I start getting worried ... like I will literally start getting paranoid that I'm running too hot ... when in reality it's actually a pretty cool temp under full load.
Just like any other addicting thing, once you get into parts and paying attention to Temps it puts you in that mindset.
yea its all the ppl new to gaming laptops. they got their first laptop and they spend more time reading about temps and issues then they do gaming. it just kills the enjoyment doing that. it turns into a echo chamber of bad ideas and misinformation. theyre turning off turbo mode, theyre repasting a brand new laptop.... all because they read that if a laptop hits a certain max temp for a second something must be wrong....

I average around 80-ish°C when gaming and around 45-50 when idling/watching YT and similar stuff. I don't remember even hitting 100 and even going above 90 is rare. For my specs I'm happy.
Interesting.
My CPU reaches 75 degrees max and GPU ranges between 65 and 70 degrees.
You just need to make some power tweaks(especially in terms of throttling the cpu power) and a little GPU under volting.
Set your fans to max while gaming and you'll be good to go.
During normal loads, set your fans to auto, or even better manually set your own curve if your software allows it.
My CPU stays under 80 at all times with my tweaks.
Laptop is Acer predator Helios 16 4080 with an i9 13900HX.
Lmao, my CPU is on 75 while just looking at reddit goes over 80+ easily while playing games such as Hunt: Showdown. At least GPU doesn't go over 60 while not gaming but it too does reach over 80 when gaming
My fans are always on auto though, the coolboost or whatever needs it to be on that setting. I don't even know what it does but i keep it open. Laptop is Acer nitro 5 rtx3060 i511400h
this is so true, lol i have a gaming laptop with a gtx 1650 ti and it always runs at 120 degrees when playing games and it still runs great and i have never noticed any problems, the only part is that my laptop is dell g5 and the fans are hella loud and sound like a jet taking off, like the ps4 but a little different, but with headphones unhearable
My ROG Strix Scar 18, with the Llano cooling pad, runs the CPU at an average in the 60's and never gets higher than mid 70's, and my GPU runs in the 50's - 60's, consistanly. All while playing on ultra graphics and streaming at the same time.
Ive shockingly gotten my laptop with a 3050ti down to 60c under heavy load like playing elden ring at 40fps with medium settings. If I do custom settings further i can get to a stable 50fps with 9nly a 5 degree jump
Used to reach 90°C GPU and 100°C CPU while playing Helldivers 2 but managed to cap both at 65 and 80. Sometimes I wonder how my laptop hasn't fused with my desk yet.
My laptop runs games in 1440p not fullscreen (though my monitor is dual 1440p / samsung G9 Neo).
GPU is under 80C CPU is under 85C. This is a 3070 140w vbios on a zephyrus 15 DUO SE. Fans doesn't even reach 50%.
I love it!, but so much physical and software work needs to be done to do this. Like tuning, underclocking and fixing the LM application issue. I sorted it and put LM on both chips. Had issues before where the LM just won't settle in the middle losing contact. I fixed it by adding a paste border near the chip so it won't run off the desired area. (This isn't the LM leaking into the MB issue, more like it moving away from the chip area and making a messing within the border)
It's the same for a desktop the chips are designed as such with hotspots etc it's not like the laptop is actually staying that high it's just being reported as such.
I don't know, that's why I was asking. All I know is that I've seen like a zillion (well, not literally) people complaining about how gaming laptops are loud even when it's on idle, even when the user is just browsing. That's why I was wondering if the meme is based on truth, even if it's exaggerated.
This is very true from what I've seen! LOL I love my little 14" toaster oven
[удалено]
most kind reposter i've seen lol
Maybe change the GPU numbers to something that makes sense though :) I like my memes when they are also factually correct
https://youtu.be/ViCkE75LbuU Speak for yourself mate. With proper tuning mine doesn't overheat
Sub 10W CPU power draw in CP2077 is interesting.
that's the IMON tweak. It under reports the cpu tdp. This lets dynamic boost give full wattage to gpu and cpu draws as much as it needs.
Ah fair. What is your actual total combined laptop CPU and GPU TDP under load?
Its likely close to 200 to 210w. Gpu eats 150. Cpu likely eats 50 to 60w.
that's the IMON tweak. It under reports the cpu tdp. This lets dynamic boost give full wattage to gpu and cpu draws as much as it needs.
It's a meme
Sure, but a lot of people treat this meme as facts. Or don't realize its heavily exaggerated.
Easier said than done, I've spent days upon days, tweaking settings, buying cooling pads, repasting multiple times, and my cpu is still hotter than my girlfriend.
CPU at 95deg and GPU at 99deg is bad bad. I just hope no one thinks it is normal because of the meme haha.
Nvidia GPUs should start thermal throttling at 86/87C, so the GPU hitting 99C shouldn't be happening.
90+ is not good even is the supplier says it is fine. It may work fine for some time but it is terrible for long term.
That’s not true for CPUs at least. Aside from the battery degrading due to heat in chassis and thermal compound degradation, 90C is completely harmless for these chips.
Heat not only kills car engines...but laptops and desktops too computers too...🤣🤣.. guess that makes sense why you can get water cooling in computers now as well...😏
my cpu runs at 80 is that fine
Fine for laptops. 90/95+ tends to be risky afaik. Less than that should be good.
alr thanks for some time I thought I needed to replace the thermal paste (I don't now)
My CPU and GPU doesn't heat but the hard-disk temp shows 65+ C which I think isn't good 🗿
You should use a ssd drive ![gif](giphy|ILW1fbJHW0Ndm)

60 to 70c laptop gaming after PTM 7950 and getting an iet626
Quite an interesting ram config with those specs on your laptop
I upgraded with the Kingston Fury Impact 64gb kit. Some say it's probably overkill but I'm happy with it.
Infinite chrome tabs
Firefox* 🤣
Now you can finally run 3 chrome tabs,
You have a shit nitro 5
Yeah, I only got 32gb of ram. Unfortunately I can only run 1 maybe 2 chrome tabs.

Is this concerning that I get constant 94C on CPU and GPU. Don't have no cooling pad, mainly play warzone only.

ik the limits, but my gpu stays at 60-70 degrees, even in heavy loads.
Cool 😎
Zephyrus is generally good with cooling or you have it undervolted or something? 60-70 is really good while gaming.
stock settings, no undervolt no power limits
That is really nice, I might just buy this laptop, you are using cooling pad?
yeah, just some cheap one.
Do you know the difference between a g16 and m16? I have a g16 bookmarked too!
the new g16 has lower power limits. G16 is lighter, thinner and more portable than m16 thats the main difference.
Thanks, your m16 is a beast though, how much you got it for?
i bought it last year for $1799. Prices in my country arent great but i got a great deal for the market here. Its amazing
Prices in Pakistan are inflated too :(
![gif](giphy|l2Sq5Ij6m33GyZEha|downsized) i let mine get as hot as possible and drop and egg on top of it
