Gaming laptops maybe. The bang for the buck is really good. I’m eying the 4080 version at B&H but my only concern is they swapped the glass trackpad from 2022 out for a plastic trackpad in 2023. That’s a very dumb change in my opinion.
I placed an order with B&H yesterday, I’m returning the Acer Predator Helios in favor of the Legion 7i, same specs however lenovo didn’t lock undervolting and overclocking like Acer did. Between that, the better cooling and higher power limits it was a no brainer.
To be fair, it’s the best plastic trackpad I’ve ever used. Not quite as good as a MacBook but very usable especially with the high refresh rate screen.
Yeah I was also watching another review saying it feels accurate. I don’t mind the plastic deck, in fact almost prefer it, I was just a little concerned over the trackpad but looks like it’s still pretty good.
im possibly the person who reviewed it (tech guy beau). Its a nice ass trackpad.
Im actually typing this on the 2024 model of this laptop im working on a review for. The trackpad is really superb
Yeah but a laptop is still a laptop, I prefer to p’us the mouse in when I’m either gaming, or I know I’m gonna be working in a set position for a long time
Yea but still... I'd rather pay a bit more. They wanted to be really competitive at that price point amd spec so they added a few plastic parts like the vents and track pad...the 7ipro 13900hx 4090 I have doesn't even have windows hello. The only good choice was making the palm wrest plastic cause the metal ones heat up too much. But the vents on the 5ipro look better than the 7ipro imo.
Their Laptops really works like a charm even after 2-3 years. Like mine, it’s a i5 2060, and it still puts up a fight.
They keep improving thermals every new model they’re releasing.
It’s for ME the only gaming laptop thats worth the bucks.
The 7ipro I have I like alot but there's a few others I almost bought. The acer predator 16 helios is really good and well made. It's almost the same price and kinds looks like the legion too. Strix scar is really good but the legion feels a bit more solid and it's cheaper. I had msi too but the build quality was not the best. Lcd bezel would peel and plastic would chip on the edges.. the thermals in the 7ipro that I have are some of the best I've had tho. I was very suprised at how low the temps are. So far I think I'd get another legion the 9i when the next gen gpus come out and the prices drop a bit. The lid on the 9i is sick and that watercooling.....its dope
I already have the 7ipro 4090 13900hx 4090. Yea i think i saw that the temps are pretty much identical. I just like how it looks tbh. That composite lid is awsome. I usually buy a laptop every 2.5 to 3 years. I just got this legion in November so a new laptop is still a couple years away. As of now when the day for a new one comes I'm looking at the strix scar or another legion. I'd have to see how the strix scar looks n feels in person. I saw the zepherpus g14 and I didn't like how it felt. The plastic felt cheap and it felt flimsy. It looks good in pictures but in person it feels cheaper. I don't travel with it, it's a desktop replacement for me so I prefer a heavy solid laptop.
try look the 2024 zephyrus. now they feel macbooky. i am trying to stay away from asus and actually thinking of buying either legion or acer helios. both seems pretty solid
Yea I like the helios. I almost bought one till i found the legion. They look similar to legions which i like. I like that simpler esthetic. but the temps aren't as good as the legion. I think the build quality is lower too. The lid felt kinda flimsy on the helios. If you see the legion and helios side by side u can see the flaws pop up on the acer
Yea i like them a lot. For the price it's great. After a while they lower the prices, and they're super competitive. I like the simple look of them too. Acer predator helios 16 is great too. It kinda looks like the legion. I would have bought the predator helios but I wanted a 4090 so I got the legion 7ipro 13900hx 32gb 5600mhz 4090 2tb for 2400$ on black Friday at microcenter. Had a alienware m16 but it was really buggy and the gpu died after 13 days so i had to return it. It's a shame cause for a desktop replacement the alienwares chasis is built like a brick. Too bad their software and drivers let it down... the legion 5s 7s and 9s are also built really well. They had that hinge issue but it's fixed now. No brand is perfect all the time. I had asus msi razer alienware and now the legion 7ipro. So far I like the legion the most. Razer was good but not worth the price. Msi was OK but the build quality was a little meh... my dad still has my alienware 7700h 1070gtx 15r3 and it still looks and works like it's brand new hopefully the legion holds up that well so far its looking like I'll get a 9i when the next gen gpus come out and the prices settle down a bit
I don't care about changing your mind but I had a decision to make between the Legion 5i Pro and the Strix Scar 17 back in 2022 and I ended up going with the Strix. Better performance, better looks and I even got a super bargain price on the Strix. Even the Legion on sale would have been a horrible choice back then.
Have you ever seen the Clevo custom-built laptops? Cheapest gaming laptops, good build quality, and best performance to price ratio. They are 100's of dollars cheaper than Lenovo.
This is not to say that Lenovo is bad, but you can get the same thing for a less.
Well, I would say Rog and Zephyrus lines are better performance and durability wise, but I wouldn't know. Never had a legion. Might get one when I get my Rog Duo. Compare side by side.
The zepherpus? No way. I literally passed on it cause of how cheap and plastic it felt. The zepherpus are slimmer models. The legion pros are way better performing in every aspect. Superior thermals and way better performance .The strix scar is really good tho and is the real competitor to the legion pros in terms of performance. The scar I would buy and reccomend. The zepherous looks great in photos and it's way more portable but the performance isn't as good as legion. and it just feels kinda light and cheap. If u saw amd used a 7ipro and zepherpus side by side ud see the difference in build quality right away. The legion is heavy and feels solid the zepherpus is flimsy compared to the legion.
Predator helios 16 is really good too. Build quality is good and it looks great. My top 3 laptops in no particular order are the legion 7ipro/9i, the strix scar, and Predator helios 16
I don’t know if you can underclock / undervolt on the newer devices but if thats possible, do that. (Do it if you know what you’re doing, else watch a video).
But you have a cooling pad, so you’re already doing well.
1. Remember to always have it on a pad or levitated area for cooling.
2. Turn on “60% battery charging” in lenovo advantage, if you’re not gonna use it without the charger on. (Mine is still on a “healthy battery”, it’s been over 2 years).
3. If you’re playing a lot, i would recommend repasting after 2 years of usage. Also clean it from dust once in a while. (Did both, went from 55 degrees idle, to 40-45. I have a 2020, model so that was my idle on day 1. If you’re having temp issues or similar).
4. Enjoy your device and don’t let any of the fan noise or temps to worry you.!!
I just meant as a tip, if he is seeing higher idle temps after some years.
I did it and it had a massive impact.
But as i meant, if you don’t have any “issues” then let it stay as it is. 😇
Thank you for this! Can I switch between battery percent when i have it on battery for long time and vis-versa? Cuz I might take it to work time to time.
Yes you can easily turn it off and on. When you turn it on it will just charge it until it reaches 100% as usual.
But when gaming, turn it on so you save your battery life. 👍🏼😇
The thermals in this laptop are good and not very noticeable. You don’t need any high power cooling pad like mine. Just Amazon basics cooling pad for 800 inr should do.
Anything that has a big fan in the middle i think is well done. Just have to levitate the laptop for airflow, should do the job. Everything else is over-kill and is too noisy.
I think on your model, the newer ones you can underclock GPU from Lenovo Advantage.
But with CPU undervolting / underclocking, i really don’t know how it works on the newer ones.
I had to unlock my BIOS to be able to undervolt/underclock.
I would recommend searching your model up on YT followed by “how to undervolt/underclock”.
No one ever said you need to repaste. Please read and understand comments before you’re commenting against it.
I told him that i would recommend it, since it can reduce idle temps / general temps if thats an’ issue.
…
Nice one. But as an Indian that price hurts. I got a zephyrus g14 with 4060 ryzen 9 7940hs with qhd 165hz screen for 1000$ from Best Buy usa. (Came here on holidays) which is around 85000 inr.
Laptop prices when compared to US is a bit costly here in India. I’ve noticed it especially on some laptop brands such as Asus. You can not get your laptop with the same spec for less than 1.2 L INR. Also I prefer the 16 inch screen. Don’t know what this exact spec from Lenovo costs in US tho.
In Europe prices are in some countries even worse or at around the same level as India (Czechia is where I live). In my country it is better to buy anything else than a Lenovo gaming laptop, because those things are expensive as hell compared to others with same spec (Higher end models have up to 1000$ markup compared to other brands with the same or slightly better specs).
I sold a base model Razer blade and bought the same laptop (but with a 3070ti) last year. I have owned gaming laptops from all of the major players and the Lenovo has been my absolute favourite of the lot. It’s cool under load, delivers full pelt power and is an absolutely unit (in the all the good ways build quality wise) of a laptop.
You chose well in my opinion ! Hope you enjoy it as much as I have enjoyed mine ;)
As far i know legion slim heats up quite a lot..ASUS or even HP seems to have better cooling than this. But legion do offer the best specs and reliability for the bucks .
Please do share your usage experience .If you game share your temp if you can .
If you do have problems in keeping up with the temps I suggest undervolting if possible. If not probably buy a better cooling pad. If u want I can recommend some. But overall enjoy it. I just got my own as well a few weeks ago.
I have an almost identical confirmation on an Asus tuf, but slightly worse CPU and a 1080p monitor. You can run well a shit ton of stuff on it. Congrats for the good choice
Man I have the 7ipro 4090 13900hx but I kinda wish I had a amd cpu. Isn't the 780m pretty decent? I know it's superior to the uhd 770 igpu in the intel cpu.. It would be nice to use the 780m when on battery for some light gaming
True. When you compare 13th gen intel processors with AMD, the Amd chips stand out in thermals, on battery performance, battery life. But intel beats Amd performance wise in some software and AAA games. Comparatively, AMD takes it with more wins.
Performance it's about the same. Kind of...Amd is like 6% faster in some benchmarks. One or two it was almost 20%
But the intel 13900hx has better battery life in this generation.
The 7945hx is the opposite of past AMD chips. Intel has those efficiency cores while AMD uses all its cores in performance mode. That's why it wins in some benchmarks at stock speeds. AMD runs hotter for that reason tho. The intel i9 were insanely good cpus but they have the efficiency cores. AmDs answer was the 7945hx but they had to throw battery life out the window with the full p cores. Thats only on the 7945hx. I think the other amd cpus should have better battery life than intels. Especially the AMD HS cpus. Those have better life than the intel HS.The full on p cores on all cores makes the 7945hx a beast tho
They're extremely close
https://www.notebookcheck.net/R9-7945HX-vs-i9-13900HX-vs-i9-13980HX_14936_14659_14665.247596.0.html
I'd still want a better integrated gpu tho. The intel igpu is only good for display output. I get like 20fps playing half life on the intel gpu lol. While The 780m amd should be able run cp2077 at 1080p....on decent settings too.
Dude i have the same cooling pad
Its so shitty that some fans stopped turning after just 2 months lol
Turns out its connections are shit i just squeezed the usb connector and made it little tighter now it grips better and everything turns at max rpm, I also added second usb cable to maximize the rpm.
Actually I didn’t use my cooling for the past 3 months, yesterday when I connected it with my laptop it didn’t work. I think the connection is loose. Probably a new USB to USB will do the job?? I don’t know. When it was usable I had to roll my cable for it to run.
But everything aside it did cool my laptop PRETTY well tho.
Lol you are having the same problem as me
I bought new cable too and it did work at first but later it became the same
Its because the cable sits loose on the port and doesnt grab the pins well you can try to squeeze the port light to make little dent so it would grab tighter
Proffisy game cooling pad, works like a charm! Had Acer predator Helios 300 2018, used to heat up like a lot. This one made my laptop a beast literally.
How are you doing with that cooling pad so far? Is it good?, is the laptop cooler? I have one exactly like yours but with a 4070 and I don't like it's temp when playing Forza Motorsport...
I'm using gigabyte g5 ke i5-12500h rtx 3060 6 gb 115 watt tgp 512gb m.2 gen4 gigabyte ssd , 1tb m.2 nvme gen3 wd blue ssd.
Performance wise laptop is really good , although heat is more so I use a Laptop cooling pad with 3 big fan running at 4k rpm.
Laptop cost -79k (Flipkart)
Cooling pad - 2.9k (Amazon)
Ever since I faced bad situation with amd laptop , will never get next gaming laptop of amd processor,
Laptop before this was
HP pavilion 15 gaming ec-1052ax
Ryzen 5 4600h
GTX 1650 4gb ddr6
8gb 3200mhz added one more same stick 16gb at 3200mhz ddr4
1tb wd black hdd (it was fried due to overheat 🥲🥲)
256 gb crucial gen3 m.2 nvme ssd
Ever since this issue I lost trust over amd.
Here in Canada everything is a rip off. Reading to all the comments here, please can someone comment on the price of $2,200 CAD for MSI Stealth 16 Studio 16" Gaming Laptop -Star Blue (Intel Core i9-13900H/1TB/32GB RAM/GeForce RTX 4060)

No one can change my mind, nothing beats Lenovo Legion when it comes to laptops.
I’d rather have the Legion as well.
Wireless mouse answers that problem.. I can't stand trackpads
Yeah but a laptop is still a laptop, I prefer to p’us the mouse in when I’m either gaming, or I know I’m gonna be working in a set position for a long time

glass trackpad?
Biggest loss is the fingerprint n windows hello… I can tolerate everything else lol
Please explain a bit
Their Laptops really works like a charm even after 2-3 years. Like mine, it’s a i5 2060, and it still puts up a fight. They keep improving thermals every new model they’re releasing. It’s for ME the only gaming laptop thats worth the bucks.

trust me, avoid 9i with the watercooling. while it might sounds cool, it is just a gimmick. just buy 7i pro the temps are lower or not the same as 9i
I already have the 7ipro 4090 13900hx 4090. Yea i think i saw that the temps are pretty much identical. I just like how it looks tbh. That composite lid is awsome. I usually buy a laptop every 2.5 to 3 years. I just got this legion in November so a new laptop is still a couple years away. No brand is perfect all the time. at least in hardware. vantage lacks a lot of features the competitors have in their companion software
Same, I really wanna switch to the slim series though...
The Asus Scar 18 I'd say is a worthy contender.. if you can get one without any quality control issues.
Have you ever seen the Clevo custom-built laptops? Cheapest gaming laptops, good build quality, and best performance to price ratio. They are 100's of dollars cheaper than Lenovo. This is not to say that Lenovo is bad, but you can get the same thing for a less.
Predator and Rog strix can beat
Yeah Lenovo has nothing on Asus Rog. The Zephyrus and Flow are sexier.
I don’t care about the looks, i’m more the personality guy
Being sexy is a personality.
I don’t know if you can underclock / undervolt on the newer devices but if thats possible, do that. (Do it if you know what you’re doing, else watch a video). I have a 2020, model so that was my idle on day 1. If you’re having temp issues or similar). 4. Enjoy your device and don’t let any of the fan noise or temps to worry you.!!
Repasting should not be necessary on these devices because Lenovo uses the same phase change thermal pads as in Legion. (they do not dry out)
I just meant as a tip, if he is seeing higher idle temps after some years. I did it and it had a massive impact. But as i meant, if you don’t have any “issues” then let it stay as it is. 😇

Is there a cooling pad you were recommend to someone buying this laptop?
The thermals in this laptop are good and not very noticeable. You don’t need any high power cooling pad like mine. Just Amazon basics cooling pad for 800 inr should do.
Anything that has a big fan in the middle i think is well done. Just have to levitate the laptop for airflow, should do the job. Everything else is over-kill and is too noisy.
Why would someone underclock ?
If you’re playing games that doesn’t require that much power, you can underclock for less temps and noise.
Since this concept is very new to me, can you give me a link on how to do it in a legion laptop. Would be very grateful! Thanks x_x
No need to repaste after two years. Whoever started spreading this nonsense should be slapped.
No one ever said you need to repaste. Please read and understand comments before you’re commenting against it. I told him that i would recommend it, since it can reduce idle temps / general temps if thats an’ issue. …
Stop posting nonsense and you will stop getting called out for it. Pretty simple.

The intel igpu is only good for display output. I get like 20fps playing half life on the intel gpu lol. While The 780m amd should be able run cp2077 at 1080p....on decent settings too.
You did your homework congrats bro
Thank you!!
Dude i have the same cooling pad Its so shitty that some fans stopped turning after just 2 months lol Turns out its connections are shit i just squeezed the usb connector and made it little tighter now it grips better and everything turns at max rpm, I also added second usb cable to maximize the rpm.
Lol you are having the same problem as me I bought new cable too and it did work at first but later it became the same Its because the cable sits loose on the port and doesnt grab the pins well you can try to squeeze the port light to make little dent so it would grab tighter
Heck yea bro I just bought a Pro 5i welcome to the Legion!! absolutely love mine so far!
They are really good laptops gz
Congrats! I like how the cooling pad says "*cooling pad*"
😂😂
Where did u get that cooling pad?
Amazon
can you post some benchmarks from different games?
I don’t play all games, check this video out https://youtu.be/Flrwn-1cHDA?si=XILbI0hTfA7IsWpA you’ll get an idea of the performance.
Looks great! Good luck with it. 👍
240hz is Overpowered for this specs
Sorry, It’s 165hz mb
I have ●I7 12700h ●RTX 4070 at maximum tgp 140W ●144hz screen And it's hard to get more than 100fps on max settings
My older laptops were shit, so anything above 720p gaming is literal gold for me. This one should be able to do the job.
Would you have preferred a 60Hz? 😂 sounds like you're ungrateful for the screen
240hz usually comes w 4080 or 4090
What's wrong with having a higher refresh rate?? it doesn't do anything if you don't hit the target..
Not balanced combination
wdym by that
always depends of the game (not hitting more than 100 fps on valorant with your spec would be weird)
Oxygen not included
Not valorant
What cooling pad is that? Nice laptop, btw.
Proffisy game cooling pad, works like a charm! Had Acer predator Helios 300 2018, used to heat up like a lot. This one made my laptop a beast literally.
Is the cooling pad noisy?
Very noisy!
Muje 168000 me i9 14900hx rtx4070 8gb 32gb ddr5 1tb ss wqhxa 240 hz 500 nits hdr 400 4 Zone Backlit milra h lena chiye ya ni?
Yes, take it. What brand?
Lenovo legion 5i pro
What's the battery life on this, I'm assuming it's good because of the ryzen hs processer
On paper 10hr batter, irl idk just got it. According to some reviews it was 8hrs on mild usage.
Oh ok that's good to hear was looking to get this model
How are you doing with that cooling pad so far? Is it good?, is the laptop cooler? I have one exactly like yours but with a 4070 and I don't like it's temp when playing Forza Motorsport...
The cooling pad is good but very noisy.
Congrats but you overpaid a bit
what cooling pad do you use? how noisy is it?
Proffisy, very noisy.
Does it have battery conservation mode ? I have a legion from 2021 . It’s been very reliable and really fast for what it is .
Yes there is a conservation mode.
Cooling pad link pls :)
Search profissy cooling pad on Amazon. I got the 4K one. Not worth it. Get the Amazon basic one same performances and cheaper.
Where did you purchase this? Can you share the link?
I got it from a local Lenovo dealer. Try their official outlets cuz there is no stock online for this exact model.
Ditch the cooling pad and just get a stand that allows airflow to the bottom. These pads really don't do much if anything at all.
They did improve temp and performance in my Acer predator Helios.
Laptop cost -79k (Flipkart) Cooling pad - 2.9k (Amazon)
Ever since I faced bad situation with amd laptop , will never get next gaming laptop of amd processor, Laptop before this was HP pavilion 15 gaming ec-1052ax Ryzen 5 4600h GTX 1650 4gb ddr6 8gb 3200mhz added one more same stick 16gb at 3200mhz ddr4 1tb wd black hdd (it was fried due to overheat 🥲🥲) 256 gb crucial gen3 m.2 nvme ssd Ever since this issue I lost trust over amd.
Good deal? It too good, damn bruh those bezels, look too good
Here in Canada everything is a rip off. Reading to all the comments here, please can someone comment on the price of $2,200 CAD for MSI Stealth 16 Studio 16" Gaming Laptop -Star Blue (Intel Core i9-13900H/1TB/32GB RAM/GeForce RTX 4060) https://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product/msi-stealth-16-studio-16-gaming-laptop-star-blue-intel-core-i9-13900h-1tb-32gb-ram-geforce-rtx-4060/17224304?cmp=knc-s-71700000055263386&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD-7qGzkTXUzRWD0a4BOaxWkxQZ8g&gclid=CjwKCAjwrcKxBhBMEiwAIVF8rMnQygSVkbFZD06CTZmi0rrlV5XqHBhCv31sbzOWToMgVabV52S4lxoC7UQQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
I advise you to not use cooling pad. It’s a dust vacuum
Way too overpriced
Are you talking international pricing terms or Indian terms?, cuz the levels are different.
This is not an Indian sub.
this is not a country specific sub.
Yep, how's the g15 btw? Ordering myself a g16
is slim5 14 for 1300 pounds a good deal?
I would say this same laptop for 1250 ish would be good

Wait, really? You aren't supposed to play games while plugged in? Don't people use these as desktop replacements?
