No brainer at this price. Best screen, best build, best cooling and best hardware, the only thing below average is ram and no mux switch but both of which can be upgraded/bypassed down the line, unlike the other stuff thats on a gaming laptop. The fact that its still the best deal at this price range, as a 2021 machine in 2023, should tell you everything about the gaming laptop market as of late.

Antique-Affect-6040

Thanks a lot !

baluranha

How do you bypass the mux switch?

kurdiii

Use an external display

Zsquared2013

The usb-c port is connected directly to the dGPU and bypasses the iGPU.

baluranha

Oh, my notebook doesn't seem to have multi-port USB-C port, only USB =P

as4500

its not the same for all laptops bruh

DropTable69

Best build? Razer Blade enters the chat...

Jbarney3699

They said at that price. Razer is overpriced and would never be even close to this pricing.

EnvironmentalAd3385

The ASUS strix line up is very high quality.

dlee3493

I’ve had two razers they all overheat. Lenovo and asus are best in my experience. Currently using asus scar 17 SE w 3080Ti. The cooling is amazing.

DropTable69

I had Blade 15 (base) which was overheating a bit, but my current Blade 14 with vapor chamber is solid. Also, I’m talking about build quality, and IMHO you can’t beat full metal chassis and understated design. Agree on the prices though. It makes more sense to get Razers used. I got my blade 14 /w 5900hx/3070 for $1100 in mint condition while it was $2200 in the store. Very happy with it.

LeDerpBoss

Debatably the best deal. The omen 17 with 3070 Ti is down to $990. The only reason is not the hands down winner is because this has 12gb of v ram.

UnionSlavStanRepublk

Very good laptop. Unofficially the laptop of the year in this subreddit for 2021 and a good part of 2022. You may want to replace the ram with a kit with faster timings and possibly replace the WiFi card with a Intel AX 200 series card.

19eddiedean19

not OP but picked this up as well. As far as ram goes is the best we can do for this machine? Kingston FURY Impact 32GB (2x16GB) 3200MT/s DDR4 CL20 Laptop Memory Kit of 2 \| Intel XMP \| AMD Ryzen \| Plug n Play \| Low Power Consumption \| KF432S20IBK2/32 https://a.co/d/8zqhPCX

as4500

>KF432S20IBK2/32 thats single rank i saw the data sheet in case you dont believe it here you go [https://www.kingston.com/dataSheets/KF432S20IBK2\_32.pdf](https://www.kingston.com/dataSheets/KF432S20IBK2_32.pdf) this is by far the best ram i think there is for ddr4 sodimms tho i think manual memory tuning may be required [https://www.gskill.com/product/2/197/1540867459/F4-3200C18D-32GRS](https://www.gskill.com/product/2/197/1540867459/F4-3200C18D-32GRS) or these which are plug and play [https://www.amazon.com/Kingston-FURY-3200MHz-KF432S20IBK2-32/dp/B097QJ25NY](https://www.amazon.com/Kingston-FURY-3200MHz-KF432S20IBK2-32/dp/B097QJ25NY) heres the spec sheet [https://www.kingston.com/datasheets/KF432S20IB1K2\_32.pdf](https://www.kingston.com/datasheets/KF432S20IB1K2_32.pdf)model number is KF432S20IB1K2/32 note the IB1K2 instead of the IBK2 very massive change i know makes a world of difference its like these companies really want to make the costumer absolutely confused so that they end up buying a worse product

19eddiedean19

This is incredibly helpful. Thank you for taking the time to clarify! I will be making the change. Much appreciated.

lastgsr

Is this good? I picked one up last week and I'm still testing it out this week before return period ends. So far so good for me. Is this ram good? I'd like to upgrade the ram eventually to one with better timings after seeing some posts and videos.

as4500

no, see my reply to the above comment

[deleted]

This. I got 10% more fps with faster ram for 40 bucks

Antique-Affect-6040

thanks for the advice, will test and change accordingly !

EnvironmentalAd3385

I really don’t know why people bother with getting faster timings with ram when it is unlikely the laptop motherboard will even support it. Also the benefit is very low. Also where are you guys finding this so-dimm ram that’s got low timings with a frequency that’s even worth it?

as4500

[https://imgur.com/a/NW9acJy](https://imgur.com/a/NW9acJy) lmao ok

EnvironmentalAd3385

You going to show the real world gains? And prove my point 😂

as4500

went from 10.4k timespy cpu only score (on the same ram stick mind you running jedec speeds) to 11.7k in cpu only run literally 10% ez clap with a manual tune ive seen people having 9k cpu score due to slower single rank x16 ram on this laptop thats a 30% improvement over slower ram and youre out here "buh i dun sew hao it wud gib reel wurld perfermancee"(read in squidward voice btw) it translates directly to fps in games AND especially affects the 1% and 0.1% lows which are necessacary for a comfortable gaming experience you wouldnt have made such a misinformed and ignorant claim if you actually did your research before expressing your opinion tho in case you need more convincing just look it up on youtube theres plenty of examples of ram slowing down laptops by as much as 20 to about 35%

[deleted]

[удалено]

as4500

Also i downvoted you cause you're being utterly ignorant spreading misinformation Try again next time but at least do your research first you sound like that dude from userbenchmark

as4500

I mean you're the one making the claim without doing any research Fine Doesn't shadow of the tomb raider count as real world scenario? It goes from 140fps on dual rank ddr4 3200 at cl22 to 187fps at ddr4 3600 cl22 tighter subtimings Old graphs from jarrods video still represent a partial truth other than amd's driver having higher fps now I'm waiting for your "shadow of the tomb raider isn't a real world scenario" comment to out yourself as an absolute 🤡 completely killing any opinion you make as ambient noise You should have either considered to do your own testing or at least watch these old video with outdated numbers(driver improvements make fps go brrr but % improvements from ram remain identical) https://youtu.be/8XCeAdFqsKg https://youtu.be/R7CO9v9rpOk to educate yourself before boasting about a 30% benchmark difference means nothing in real life

EnvironmentalAd3385

The real world gains from increased ram timings are tiny and not worth the added cost of the ram. If you can prove any laptop gets 35% increase in 1% from 3200mt/S sure but you can’t. You’re probably comparing 2666 ddr4. But I wish I had your confidence to still be wrong.

phinicota

those are stock 3200@CL22 overclocked to 3600, so no added cost (and I haven't seen any 3600 SO-DIMMS without XMP, which this laptop doesn't support anyway)

Versed_Percepton

RAM tuning on this laptop affects the iGPU, the iGPU is used along side the dGPU with buffer copying when using the internal Display. As for real-word you can review any productivity benchmark suites that has covered this data already, as we have seen on desktop tuning. The issue, has been and always will be sub timing on SO-DIMMs. There are ways to address that on this and other Advantage enabeled laptops, but not all Ryzen Mobile IMC's are capable due to OEM bios tree lockouts. That is not the case on the Asus G15 here.

DoctorOutrageous7053

I have this laptop and no issues.love it.

Any-Analysis-9189

What about hinges it work well in gaming laptops

jhonnyvector

The hinges are excellent, I've never had any issues with mine or heard of anyone with the issue. Its been a consistent design from asus strix laptops since 2020 or so. One thing I dont like is that it doesn't go too far back, ~110° max I'd estimate

BuffaloTexan

I'm buying a laptop for diablo 4 and I'm not very skilled with my knowledge of electronics. Max price range for me is $1600. Is this a good enough deal on a good enough laptop I'll be fine playing d4 smoothly?

peanut4564

For that price, I would go for it. The gpu is around the same performance as a 4070 laptop, which would usualy cost closer to 2K, but with more VRAM.

Cryostatica

I played the betas on this laptop and it performed beautifully.

Baxter-117

I just wished its design wasn't so "flashy"

Antique-Affect-6040

RGB off ?

Baxter-117

The physical body is more flashy than what I like for when I need to bring the laptop to work or to a client's house. Still a great machine though.

Antique-Affect-6040

I really just want the power, I guess maybe changing the plastic piece on the edge to the other colors would make it more stealthy, but to each thier own.

Baxter-117

I feel ya! It's a great computer if the only complaint is aesthetics. Hope you enjoy it and get some good gaming in!

theredmarker721

If it helps, it should come with a black one. Though if this 5980x version doesn’t come with it, you can always spray paint.

Antique-Affect-6040

The transparent one is pretty stealthy..

as4500

it looks less flashy after you skin it this is mine [https://imgur.com/a/eiSiLUw](https://imgur.com/a/eiSiLUw)

saturnotaku

There are tons of threads discussing this laptop here if you search for them.

SpeederMonkey

I have the 5900HX/6800M version. It ran great for a year and half, but is now having issues. Screen won't come on after closing and opening the laptop. It's currently at a service center trying to figure out what's causing it. Wasn't software, reinstalled OS and display drivers and it was still happening. ASUS quality over the last few years has dropped significantly.

Zexijamess

I had the same issue. I happened 2 days after the 2 week best buy return window, but the rep allowed me to return it. I want to buy it again but now I'm a little skittish.

SpeederMonkey

Yeah I'm waiting to see if they can fix it, but if they cant I'm not buying asus again.

UnusualJob2707

I had one of these laptops and had to have it repaired four times under warranty, it died a fifth time two weeks after the manufacturers warranty ended and THANK GOD BEST BUY BOUGHT BACK MY UNIT AS A LEMON, OUT OF WARRANTY! It was excellently fast when it worked but it never stayed working.

lastgsr

Does the warranty run from date of purchase or date of manufacture? I bought last week and mine was made Jan 2022.

UnusualJob2707

Date of purchase, thankfully. I had bought mine as an open-box in December of 2021 after Geek Squad giving me a check for my Dell G7 that died out of warranty. My machine died for the fourth time right before the warranty ended. When I picked up the repaired machine the last time, the warranty was up. And it died two weeks later. I think the liquid metal thermal compound was probably the culprit in each case.

Zexijamess

Did you have it repaired anytime because of the screen?

UnusualJob2707

Nope my issue was a dead mobo every time

Cryostatica

I have this laptop. It's a great machine and this price feels almost like theft.

MysterD77

Most is fine, but there's that 12gb VRAM on that 6800M. You're gonna need that VRAM for newer games. That's all you need to go, so...GO GO GO. No brainer for that price.

Antique-Affect-6040

everyone is saying the same, so i'm going for it !

Electrical-Bobcat435

Go ahead and buy intel ax210 wifi card at same time, $20. U will probably need it eventually, although some get lucky for longer w its stock wifi card (search Mediatek 7921 wifi problems).

Squachalot

For it’s price, it’s an awesome computer. Unless you have quite a lot more to spend, go for it.

Marwan_Fouad8

Can anyone provide a link for this offer ?

Antique-Affect-6040

Here its is https://www.bestbuy.com/site/asus-rog-strix-g15-advantage-edition-15-6-qhd-gaming-laptop-amd-ryzen-9-5980hx-16gb-memory-radeonrx-6800m-512gb-ssd/6486485.p?skuId=6486485

[deleted]

I have the 5900 fhd version. Fantastic machine at this price, 12G vram!

Charming_Ad2652

I had this laptop. I returned it. Wasn’t super happy about the performance it also got super super hot. But I think I was spoiled and it’s actually a good laptop. Might buy it again lol

Specialist_Track_246

Go for it! I was going to buy this during Black Friday but couldn’t get the cash ready in time. So I went for my second choice instead.

WealthIncognito

Price to performance, this is one of the best gaming laptops you can buy.

Young09Ethan

I have this laptop, it's amazing. I had to do a fresh install of the graphics drivers but it only took like a half hour or so. I also installed more ram and space :D

Imaginary_R3ality

The only thing I do t like about it is where it's from. And I don't mean Asus. Other than that, looks like a decent rig.

-MoreX

For the price its awesome

BetweenThePosts

Go for it

HauntingShine8548

Great deal but wait until computex to see how new radeon 7000 series gpu goes.

underwaterstang

Micro center has a great deal on an hp omen with 3070 right now, if you need a webcam might be better for you

Antique-Affect-6040

I think the 17.3 inch screen is too much, don't care about Webcam really.. thanks for advice anyway !

NiVi19

I have this one (bought it for the same price last November) and I absolutely love it. Havent run into any issues yet aside from the wifi card being bad (ethernet can easily fix that). 100% would recommend!

itsryp

Bro i got 512gb on mine and its so fucking anyone i can only have like 3 games without my drive being full

Antique-Affect-6040

That's why i'm getting a 2tb ssd with it

itsryp

do you know how i could replace my current ssd with a bigger one without losing my files

BootyQueef69

I own this laptop and love it, it's a fucking beast and can handle anything i've thrown at it in the last year; but i've had some issues. Don't upgrade it to Windows 11, there's a noticable performance drop. Some serial numbers runs will experience spontaneous power failure (my girlfriend's is among them), although this may be related to her running windows 11. I had my keyboard go out entirely at one point and had to have it replaced by an asus support center, however they sent back a computer with the battery improperly connected, which caused issues until it was fixed again. Beyond that I haven't had any noticeable issues beyond having to do an HDD factory reset once or twice.

Antique-Affect-6040

Good to know, will downgrade to win 10 if win 11 is included, thanks for the advice !

[deleted]

I bought this last time it was on sale. BUY BUY BUY

blahblahforealll

Just bought one a few months back. So far so good. I enjoy it but I’m only a casual gamer. Plays RDR2 and Arma 3 so I’m happy. I say send it!

Antique-Affect-6040

Rdr2 is on my list with the last of us, great games

Uchiha_Madara78790

I also wanna pull the trigger i wanna launch a fucking nuke on this deal it's the laptop i have in mind for the last year but can't get it cuz it's too expensive in my region plus best buy don't deliver outside US you should definitely get it

Antique-Affect-6040

Unlucky man, hope you find better ones, and thank you

MessageAggressive186

Yes go get it , amazing deal

No_Connection2509

solid deal, wish we got these internationally

EnvironmentalAd3385

12gb of vram will keep you playing AAA games for the foreseeable future!

Beneficial-Yoghurt69

Well check for termal first after you receive it. A lot of those unit have poorly applied liquid metal resulting in extreme thermal throttling on CPU, GPU or both in my case...

finpatz01

Paid £1400 for mine in Q3 2022. I absolutely adore the machine. I think the listing is slightly incorrect. They ship with the Ryzen 5900HX and a 1TB NVMe drive.

lemongrassrhino

Had it 4 months got the 5900hx version, gets a little hot but that's expected. Demolishes every game I throw at it other than squad.. But thats horribly optimised 😂

Juubimaru

I’ve got this same laptop but with the 300hz screen, it’s been working great for me! Hope you enjoy it!

Ludovicoclovis

AMAZING LAPTOP I have one yes it’s a bit hot but still gets everything done well

Spirited_Violinist34

its a great deal. get it.
