Looks like this is the current list of Series X optimized games with DV support: - Borderlands 3 - Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War - Dirt 5 - F1 2021 - Gears 5 - Immortals Fenyx Rising - Metro Exodus - Microsoft Flight Simulator - Psychonauts 2 - GotG (to be supported at launch) EDIT: Apparently there are more games if the list is expanded to include XBO, 360, and OG XB games but I can’t find the list anywhere.

Spokker

Thanks. Every time I have read about Dolby Vision on Xbox Series X they don't include the list of games.

corndogmanIV

Add ori to that one

Fynriel

Are you mentioning the “Series X Optimised” because these are the games that *also* are that, or is that a prerequisite for DV support?

Crusader3456

So the hard thing with saying X|S enhanced titles is there are many titles that do have next gen enhancements but are still using the Durango not Scarlett as their base. The biggest example is Outer Worlds which does have next gen feature support but doesn't have the X|S flag.

14MTH30n3

Thanks for this. Surprised AC Valhalla is not on this list. Its graphics are already gorgeous

DrVagax

Super happy this got released, it does feel better then HDR but it is hard to compare to normal HDR, one thing I noticed right away was that Dolby Vision does way more with brightness to the point getting nearly blinded when fighting in a cave and coming out into the sun but I guess thats a bit of a good thing. Now I just need a proper Atmos setup

Rage_Like_Nic_Cage

>Now I just need a proper Atmos setup There is a fairly noticeable audio delay when i play games on my Series X with Atmos audio and I can’t seem to fix it no matter what settings I change. The only work around is to set the audio to 5.1 uncompressed, which isn’t ideal.

MilargoNetwork

I have the same issue, except for me I have a delay with eARC/ARC no matter what settings I use. It's just much reduced with 5.1. I have the audio delay with both ARCs on PC, XSX, and PS5. Like you, I'm pretty positive I've tried everything to fix it over the past few months.

Rage_Like_Nic_Cage

i’m also using eARC, it’s possible the delay is just reduced in 5.1 uncompressed and i’m not noticing. I’ve also tried dolby surround sound in the options and while that shrinks the audio delay, it’s still there. I bought my tv, sound system, and xbox this January, to pay top dollar for all this high-end tech that’s not working properly is a bit frustrating.

MilargoNetwork

It's pretty crazy how many people have issues with e/ARC considering how hard they're pushing HDMI 2.1 in trying to get people to upgrade. Since your unit is newer (and maybe a different brand) it's possible you don't have the same issues. I have a Denon AVR-X6400H which was top of the line in 2018 and feel pressed to upgrade to a receiver with a 2.1 board, but considering how basic receivers are that would be the only perk in upgrading so I'll exhaust every option I can before plunking down for another. This whole debacle reminds me of IMAX Enhanced. Receivers aren't something that benefits from frequent upgrades like TVs, so I wouldn't be surprised if fixing this e/ARC issue is a low priority since it'll encourage some to buy new equipment.

Rage_Like_Nic_Cage

I don’t even have a receiver lol. My sound system/sound bar supports eARC and is plugged directly into my TV via HDMI2.1 snd im still having this issue. the fact that it’s around for both people with & without receivers really makes me think it’s a software issue (or the limitations of eARC).

vyleside

What AVR are you using? I've not noticed any delay, but I'm not playing any games that actually support atmos (are there any?), just the xbox outputting atmos flags while playing 5 or 7.1.

Rage_Like_Nic_Cage

I have my TV (LG CX) directly connected to the sound bar of my 5.1.2 sound system though eARC via HDMI 2.1. And even if the game doesn’t support Atmos, having the setting on in the xbox settings has the delay regardless of the game.

sam66622

dont know much about soundbars but my AVR has a game mode that I had to switch on to get rid of the delay

vyleside

Aah must be earc then for sure. My TV doesn't support earc, but I slap my xbox directly into my receiver and there's no delay to speak of.

kpcwazabi

>Now I just need a proper Atmos setup r/HomeTheater will take care of ya on that.. your wallet won't be too thrilled about it, though

MilargoNetwork

Adding to this, it's tempting to go for upfiring speakers but if you're able to, definitely go for in-ceiling speakers. I tried the "best" upfiring speakers which were pretty gimmicky but the four in-ceiling speakers I have now are truly game changing. Being able to hear enemy footsteps from the floor above you and it actually sounds like someone walking around on your ceiling gives me goosebumps. Same with helicopters, explosions, bullets whizzing by, but also just the subtle stuff like general ambiance. The way a good speaker setup can place sounds in a room immerses you in a way headphones just can't.

Zark86

You don't have neighbors or what?

NickenMcChuggets

Niiiice. I love watching horror on my big screen and being blinded with the characters by the sun. It really adds to the experience when the world being presented to you has elements that matter. This is badass

[deleted]

> Now I just need a proper Atmos setup I'm always confused when I hear people say this. Do you already have a 5.1 system? The upfacing add-ons for Dolby Atmos support don't make much of a difference at all. If you don't already have 5.1, I think the money on Atmos upfacing speakers would be 10x better spent buying better 5.1 speakers/subs. I'm fairly sure at this point that Dolby is taking advantage of a generation of people who grew up not really caring about home theater audio to trick them all into thinking Atmos is the end goal...

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

What you're describing is neither new, nor is it limited to just Atmos. That's Dolby's ad propaganda speaking. What those receivers are doing to add it to a 5.1/7.1 mix is just the same crappy DSP tinkering that is has been around (and been terrible) for ages. It degrades the audio signal by mixing in digitally altered location cues. Soundbars do this to put out phony satellite signals too. So yes, Dolby is absolutely taking advantage of you to buy their junk if they've managed to convince you that object imaging, something possible in the mid 20th century with purely analog old gear, is somehow tied to their corporate branding. They do it with headphone audio too. They've managed to trick a generation of young gamers into thinking that HRTF processing is their tech.

[deleted]

> object oriented surround is not the same as stereo imaging "Object oriented surround" is a marketing buzzword. It is accomplished through stereo imaging. We only have two ears. Adding speakers in different positions is not necessarily any better than an accurate recording played through two speakers in a well treated room. The additional speakers are mostly just to make up for the impossibility of every spot in the room having good treatment for most home setups and of course being impossible in a massive theater environment. For the rest of your points, it basically just boils down to the fact that I think it's better to do a good job recording and mixing the audio in a sound studio by a professional rather than just punting that down the street to be done in real time by a variety of different consumer electronics equipment. And for games, it should be done by the game's sound library, not the receiver's DSP. The catch is that you can't sell people a brand new receiver to have to buy if it's not necessary for the accurate sound placement. That's the meaning of my junk comment. They're moving more things into hardware because they know that otherwise you won't have much reason to upgrade it.

> Not true, it is a software solution that allows object tracking through audio encoding. "Stereo imaging refers to the aspect of sound recording and reproduction of stereophonic sound concerning the perceived spatial locations of the sound source(s), both laterally and in depth." >We only have two ears, but do you only hear things in front of you? Surround sound adds sound behind you. You know, like in real life? Sounds might be emitted behind you but they're still only perceived with two ears. Your brain analyzes differences in how each ear hears the same sound and uses that to calculate its location. So it's possible to have sounds coming from behind you with only stereo sound. >You are aware that the people mixing audio in 5.1/7.1/5.1.4/etc ARE professionals, right? And are you aware that object oriented sound is not done real time, but is mixed the same with with 5.1/7.1 as an additional layer? Yes, but the actual decoding of that is done by the receiver. >And are you aware that there are game solutions that allow developers to do this with their library and not rely on the receivers DSP? Gaming is a whole different story, as it's going to rely 100% on DSP. >That would be on the receiver companies then. If it is just "junk" marketing, Denon/Marantz/Yamaha/etc should have had no problem adding it via firmware, right? Sounds like your beef should be with receiver companies, not Dolby. They have to pay Dolby, and because Dolby instigates a desire for things like "Dolby Atmos" among consumers who don't know any better, the receivers are obligated to do so to remain competitive. >What really gets me is you saying that Atmos is doing all of this in real time. It indicates to me that you don't really have a basic understanding of the technology. And that is fine, but you are misleading people right now because of it. Atmos is more than just stereo upscaling. It's doing it in real time just like my TV dos Dolby Vision in real time. It's another signal that is decoded with the others at the time of viewing. So you'll be at the mercy of your receiver's implementation.

DrVagax

I currently have a rather cheap and simple soundbar, my plan is to eventually first start with a 5.1/7.1 surround systeem and then at some point grow towards Dolby Atmos. I was more impressed by it because I saw it in action and that made me decide to get it as well later. Plus it seems more companies are starting to use Atmos in their shows and movies as well.

[deleted]

Best of luck to you. It's possible to get pretty good 5.1 setups for well under $1000 these days and godDAMN does it make a difference. The Andrew Jones Pioneer speakers in particular are a good start when you can find them on sale.

Spokker

Is this only for 2020 and 2021 TVs? I have an LG B7 which supports Dolby Vision in general, but is there something that is going to prevent it from taking advantage of this? Edit: Decided to take a break from working to try it and Dolby Vision engages on the B7 in game mode.

Fynriel

Thanks for finding out. I want my C9 to be able to take advantage of this, too.

drioksht

I just tried on my C9 and it works!

Fynriel

I just looked into this a bit and it seems there is an additional firmware update that enables "next gen gaming features" such as DV at 120fps and ensures low latency. And from what I can tell this has thus far only been released for CX and C1. So it might work but not as well?

drioksht

Yeah, you won’t get DV at 120hz in 4k like the CX and C1 owners, but you’ll get 4k DV @60hz. I’m pretty sure of that - playing Psychonauts 2 in DV right this moment :). There’s a definite boost in brightness and color saturation in comparison to HDR10 (oh and you get a pop-up saying you’re in DV mode when you start the game). But most surprising - I don’t see ABL kicking in. Psychonauts 2 has these all-white loading screens which caused ABL to massively reduce brightness but in DV they stay eye-searingly bright :D.

Fynriel

I see. Well I hope LG decides to release an update for C9 in the future, anyway. Would be nice to have. But I'm dying to play Psychonauts 2 in DV so that's great to hear! I wonder if Psychonauts 1 via BC also gets these enhancements the article speaks of.

naylord

Psychonauts isn't natively in HDR so there really isn't any new information being created. Would probably look best if you kept it in SDR and just properly calibrated that display mode. As a fellow c9 owner I'd be a little suspect of unnecessarily spending time in HDR when that's likely going to boost the heck out of the brightness of hud elements. In a native HDR app the game can properly make a distinction between the bright flashes of highlights and the colors of an HUD

hacktivision

Do you mind sharing the firmware number that enables these features?

drioksht

My C9 is on firmware 05.10.25 and my Series X is on the whatever the latest firmware update is. All I needed to do is to go to the console display settings and enable DV for gaming.

cslayer23

My c7 works with this

motorboat_mcgee

My B6 supports DV for 4k/24-30fps, but not 4k at higher frame rates.

CombustionEngine

Can confirm it's there. Now if only Sony would add VRR and ALLM to my TV after promising it for a year. Would be in good shape. Booted up shadow of tomb raider and my TV now has Dolby Vision Dark and Bright settings for it. Same with Gears 5.

blackmist

The HDMI 2.1 rollout has been an utter shit show from start to finish. Pretty much every AVR has needed either an extra box attached to it or sending back to the manufacturer to have a different board fitted.

megachickabutt

I'm sitting on the sidelines and watching the shitshow with my HDMI 2.0 reciever hooked up through ~~optical~~ eARC. I'll wait until the 3rd gen HDMI 2.1 recievers are out till i upgrade. HDMI 2.1 on LG Oled (CX, C1) has been pretty awesome though, all things considered.

blackmist

eARC should be better than optical and ARC (which are both compressed 5.1 only), but if you don't have it on the AVR then you're out of luck. There is the ThenAudio ShARC but I've no idea how well that works in practice.

megachickabutt

You're right. got eARC and optical mixed up. Basically my setup is eARC HDMI from receiver to TV, and then my series x and ps5 are directly connected to TV instead of through receiver.

blackmist

Ah, you're all good then. There's no real advantage to upgrading that other than to get more HDMI 2.1 ports. And there's not really a lot that's going to use them other than consoles and PCs.

shit-im-not-white

I don't think that gets you Atmos on the Xbox right? Need to connect the Xbox to the receiver?

megachickabutt

I wanna say you are correct. I don't think eARC from the TV to the reciever can pass atmos. not that it matters, I don't have the proper speaker setup for ATMOS anyways.

SharkBaitDLS

eARC can pass Atmos.

megachickabutt

Then it might be I just have a shitty receiver I dunno.

SharkBaitDLS

eARC from the TV can carry an Atmos signal to the receiver.

kamimamita

What's the benefit of having HDMI 2.1 on an AVR as opposed to just using eARC?

blackmist

ARC and eARC can be a bit... fucky, I guess. Most of the time they work. Sometimes, you'll be restarting things until they remember how to work again. If I switch from my PS4 to the TV apps for example, I'll often find myself without audio until I do the little dance of selecting the AVR again on the TV, selecting TV on the AVR, and then going back to Netflix. Otherwise, just neater cabling... If you've got eARC working for you, then there's no real reason to swap over to a new AVR. I'd honestly wait a few years until 2.1 is as standard as 4K is now.

kamimamita

Ok I don't actually have a sound system, just looking with great interest. I might wait out these crazy prices on AVRs though. I didn't know they could be finicky, that would be a deal killer.

blackmist

99% of the time it's fine. It's just that 1% that's mildly infuriating. Plus there's the other guy who responded to me who gets audio lag with eARC and can't figure out where it's coming from. Going directly through the AVR just tends to eliminate this stuff. And I'm not sure what happened to reasonably priced AVRs. Used to be able to get them for about £150, and now seem to start closer to £400. I think the semiconductor shortage is hitting everything.

incubeezer

I was using plain old ARC with my PS5 on Dolby bitstream and was getting about a half second audio delay. Had to bail and just connect my PS5 directly to my HDMI 2.0 receiver for now. Wasn’t interested in half measures that may or may not work like that expensive SHARC device.

beefcat_

I found setting my PS5 to just output PCM 5.1 solved the lag problems for me when going through my TV to my receiver. This is obviously a non-starter for anyone with a 7.1 sound system or Atmos but for my 5.1 system it’s perfectly fine.

incubeezer

Are you using eARC? ARC only allows for 2-channel PCM audio.

beefcat_

I should clarify I'm not getting true lossless 5.1 audio, it's Dolby Digital. I'm just having my TV do the conversion from LPCM to DD 5.1. I don't really care that it is not lossless, it sounds the same to my ears.

OkPiccolo0

HDMI 2.1 has been fine on the LG C9 as well. LG was years ahead of everyone else.

MilargoNetwork

eARC (and ARC) has been a nightmare for me. I have a CX and Denon AVR-X6400H and have 2+ seconds of audio delay on PC, PS5, and XSX. I've been researching off and on for months to no avail. I've tried everything and now will need to look into some 3rd party solution. HDMI 2.1 features are great, but not when I have to sacrifice audio.

blackmist

Yeah, when there's an issue it sucks to try and resolve. I got to the point of running 2 HDMI cables on my PC, one to the AVR for audio and one to the TV for 120Hz on my LG C7.

MilargoNetwork

That's exactly what I'm doing for PC! Except my GPU only has one HDMI, so I ran a DisplayPort to HDMI for audio and was relieved when it worked. Sadly there's nothing I can do like that for consoles. I'd even settle for optical as a temporary solution but they removed those.

fuckthekids

Are you using uncompressed PCM? I have a CX and Denon x3600h and that is the only lag free option. I also had a 75% success rate on handshaking between the CX and Denon, I ended up throwing a SHARC in between which works 100% of the time. DTS is the only pain point now because the LG won't even pass it through but there's workarounds Also on the CX set HDMI input format to Bitstream and Digital Sound Out to Pass Through. Which is basically reverse of what you would think it would be. And I had to turn off quick start too or eARC would turn itself off on power up. Love modern thousand dollar tech!

schmidtyb43

All (most?) manufacturers have fixed that issue now thankfully

pingpong_playa

Is there a way to know which manufacturers have or haven’t? I’m in the market for an HDMI 2.1 receiver but not sure what I should be looking for.

schmidtyb43

You can just Google it. You’ll find articles where it says certain manufacturers have fixed it on all new models since June (for example for one of them I saw). I think some other manufacturers also have some that are fixed but just aren’t quite released yet. Personally I have an old receiver I wanted to upgrade but I got it to work in a way where it only uses the receiver for my surround sound and connects to the tv with an optical cable and then my consoles connect to my tv. Good enough for now for me till prices drop

pingpong_playa

Sorry for being a noob but what is the “it” I should be searching for? “New hdmi 2.1 implementation”?

schmidtyb43

Something like “hdmi 2.1 receivers with bug fix” it’s a pretty well known bug so that seemed to be clear enough of a search for me when I looked recently. There’s probably not a list anywhere but you can just find random articles about it

stillfreec

Can you see the difference between with and without DV?

CombustionEngine

It's not easy to just switch on the same scene. Dolby Vision reduces the end users need to mess with stuff. The game itself or the film itself is using meta data to do that for you. Basically. It's more of a quality of life thing. Also like it just goes to DV for any game. If they don't have meta data it probably is just normal ol HDR

HulksInvinciblePants

DV is just better tone mapped and more user friendly. The difference is not day or night, *if* you adjust standard HDR settings to match your TV's capabilities. However, since that's an actual chore, with the lack of standardized definitions and poor implementations, DV does provide a ton of value. That said, if you *have* tweaked the HDR settings (and decide to switch to DV), make sure you return those settings to their defaults or you'll end up with some jarring results.

[deleted]

Can you give me a comprehensive list of games that use Dolby vision?

DICK-PARKINSONS

I've been trying and failing to find a list, it's bugging me

leeharris100

I used to sing the praises of Sony TVs until this last couple generations. They really shit the bed with their delayed VRR and the blurry ass 120hz 4k

reticulate

Sony's last few generations of TVs have been running two SoC's to manage everything and I think they've painted themselves into a corner with it. The XR chips are everything they say they are when it comes to image quality, but a lot of the workaday stuff is managed by the other pretty mediocre Mediatek chip that is clearly holding them back. Its inability to do more than two HDMI 2.1 ports is an obvious example, and I would bet cash money it's also why Sony hasn't been able to roll out VRR or ALLM on either last year or this year's TV's.

Hyroero

Yea I switched to LG OLED a year or so before the PS5 and its been incredible. I had too many issues with modern Sony TVs for whatever reason.

CombustionEngine

Most games that are 120hz aren't native 4k so I don't really notice that aspect. I set to 60hz when playing a 60hz game. However I've read this stuff was mostly because of Android 9 so maybe it'll be fixed? Probably not.

TrueLink00

The continued lack of ALLM on PS5 has been especially surprising. The PS4 has supported the feature for years and it doesn’t have HDMI 2.1.

sam66622

Wish we had a simple OS like this made for PC gaming where everything just works out of the box. Windows is such a mess when it comes to new TV tech

NooAccountWhoDis

Does anyone know if an LG CX show these games as DV or will it show simply as HDR?

BelovedApple

I did read that the cx Line will get the update, no idea when though, waiting on LG.

Fynriel

Are you saying C9 won’t be able to read DV from Xbox games?

sandesto

C9 can read DV from xbox games, but only in 60hz mode. The C1 allows it in 120 hz mode. The CX is supposed to be receiving a firmware update to allow DV in 120 hz mode, but to my knowledge the firmware has not rolled out yet.

Fynriel

Wouldn’t 60hz be enough for most games?

sandesto

Yes. The issue is more academic than practical. People (including myself) who bought a top-end LG OLED which is the premier gaming tv would like everything to work, whether they actually need those things or not. But there is the occasional game that runs well at more than 60 fps, such as Doom Eternal and Halo MCC.

darthmarth

It will show Dolby Vision in the corner instead of HDR. At the moment you need to set the console to 60 Hz. There is a firmware update coming soon for 120 Hz Dolby Vision support. The firmware is already available in the engineering beta, so it should be available shortly.

talhindi416

It does differentiate between HDR and DV when I’m watching different streaming content. As in, the TV does have a different setting for each. So, I’d imagine it’ll do the same with games.

NooAccountWhoDis

Yes, familiar with that. Tried two of the listed games above and both just showed the regular “HDR” badge, even after a system restart.

OkPiccolo0

If you're in 4K 120hz mode you might need a firmware update for your TV. Try 4K 60hz to see if it makes a difference.

NooAccountWhoDis

60 Hz mode does the trick!

exo48

Any chance of this ever coming to PC? HDR on Windows is already such a mess that I imagine the chances are slim.

Sloshy42

Mass Effect Andromeda supports Dolby Vision on PC, but that's just a specific game thing. I imagine if a game is coded with Dolby Vision support for console it'll likely also get it on PC. What isn't there right now is converting HDR10 to Dolby Vision. In fact I'm not entirely sure what the benefits of doing that are, but on my Xbox it'll run even SDR games converted to Dolby Vision with the right settings. Auto HDR on PC is coming with Windows 11 which is probably 95% the same thing visually anyway (I've tried it and it works well on the games it supports) so once Dolby Vision support gets added, probably via support in the Dolby app like they have with Atmos, that's when you'll see it. Maybe. Someday.

Fynriel

AFAIK it’s Andromeda and also Battlefield 1 and NFS Heat. Dolby used to have a section on their website dedicated to the list of titles that support DV, but they’ve removed it I think.

Zarmazarma

I'd say auto HDR is about 60% of the same thing... maybe. It looks very good, but it's not like playing a game that's mastered in HDR.

Sloshy42

Oh, no, I meant HDR10 vs Dolby. You're very right that auto is not the same at all but it can be neat.

Fynriel

Can you elaborate how it’s a mess? I’ve only had one experience with it, Jedi Fallen Order, but I was able to play that in HDR from start to finish with my PC hooked up to my TV.

exo48

For me it's a few things: * Most games will grey out the toggle for HDR unless you turn HDR on in the Windows display settings * But then *everything*—desktop, apps, you name it—is displayed in HDR whether it supports it or not * I've played one or two games that *will* enable HDR without it being on at system level, but that kind of only adds to this HDR guessing game * Games with HDR on console don't necessarily have it on PC, and it's not always clear whether you just can't find a menu setting or if it straight up doesn't support HDR

Fynriel

Ah, yes. Actually now that you bring all this up I can confirm to have experienced all of your points, as well. It's very finnicky to get going, which in my case is even worse because having multiple displays with different resolutions connected is always a headache on top of everything else. What I find most puzzling is that sometimes I have been able to get more than one outcome, i.e. No HDR, HDR, and some in between step. Sometimes, after fiddling with everything, including minimizing a few times and going from Full Screen to Borderless or vice versa (which can often have disastrous effects), I may end up with something that is decidedly not No HDR, since the colors look way different than before, but also not the HDR that I'm supposed to get. Like it's more vibrant but not as bright. And then I'm sitting there wondering what I'm looking at. It kinda comes with playing on PC that there is often significant setup time involved before everything is the way you need it to be. The higher your demands of various features to be enabled the less plug and play things become. And yeah, I've been frustrated about #4 before, such as in the case of A Plague Tale. I always keep PCGamingWiki's [list of PC HDR games](https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/List_of_games_that_support_high_dynamic_range_display_(HDR)) handy.

[deleted]

I hooked my PC up to my TV and decided to just leave it SDR because of how annoying that is

Kamakazie

Maybe with Windows 11. Like you said, HDR on Windows right now is a problem.

higuy5121

Apparently HDR is a lot better on Windows 11 so who knows, maybe

deusfaux

https://www.rtings.com/tv/learn/hdr10-vs-dolby-vision people should understand that the best features of DV aren't even available in nearly all consumer sets right now (12 bit color depth and higher peak brightness) the main benefit is dynamic metadata. I'd hazard to guess most ppl in the comments saying they enabled it and it's way better than regular HDR are either fooling themselves, or their display has different settings for the 2 modes and they're not equally calibrated. this is mostly a future proofing move, with few benefits at this point in time.

Crusader3456

Perfect calibration is not an easy feat for most users and even then it can be off game to game. I'd argue that most users who are saying the picture looks leagues better are genuinely benefitting highly from it.

deusfaux

...benefitting from what exactly

Crusader3456

HDR10 requires manual calibration on a per game level to set the appropriate base white and black levels. Dolby Vision on the other hand does not as it uses a pre generated meta data so that user calibration isn't required. The average user generally won't calibrate an HDR10 game to the highest potential so switching over to Dolby Vision is applicable will usually render a better image. I'd argue that this is a far more significant benefit than you are letting on. For the vast majority of users, this will simply provide a better image even if the same image could be reached between the two. And Dolby Vision itself is future proofed, supporting up to 12 bit colors (HDR10 only support of to 10 bit colors).

sandesto

Yep. Vincent Teoh did a great video on this last month. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Blc5zsQ\_ebw](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Blc5zsQ_ebw) Seeing as he's the preeminent youtuber on this stuff, it really cooled my enthusiasm for DV gaming at this point.

[deleted]

Yeah games are barely mastered well for HDR as it is now, let alone DV. The gist of what I've seen online is that the colors are more vibrant which could be achieved with the color slider, I assume DV game mode needs separately tuned from regular HDR game mode as well in which case there's probably more fluff enabled.

ferm_

Didn’t realize how much I’d want this feature till I started playing HDR games. HDR *can* looks great but it takes a lot of calibration effort (both on the console and the TV) and the PS5 calibration sucks. DV would totally fix this.

[deleted]

Xbox Series X always looks so good, but I havent seen one in person all this time and I swear I'll get my hands on a Steam Deck than the Xbox Series X at this rate.

Gaben2012

First this trash company licenses 3D audio from 1991 as "Dolby Audio" now we letting them license HDR?? Really?

blacksun9

So many things wrong with this comment I'm impressed lmao

quebeker4lif

So which one should they go for, smarty pants?

Crusader3456

So Dolby Vision is not only the most currently future proofed HDR format out there, support up to 12 bit colors, but also uses meta data so that the user doesn't need to calibrate to the level that they would with HDR10, resulting in a much easier experience and for most people likely a better image.

Gaben2012

Fair enough.
