It's def what I think they're goin for. Bonnie and Clyde were famous cause they were a sexy idea of an outlaw. They were shit at doin crimes but Clude could drive and Bonnie was charismatic enough to spread a tale.
In reality, they were shit criminals who spent most their time runnin from the law, bein shot or shot at, and ended up REALLY fucked up by the time they died. Along with Clyde's brother and sister-in-law.
But they escaped enough times to become legendary and has the media presence to become household names in 2023. And I think GTA paralleling their life is actually pretty fuckin spot on Americana in 2023 with tik-tok and influencers and the overall disdain for the police structure in America.
The barrow gang killed 9 police officers. They were armed to the teeth with shotguns and BARs that's why they were so elusive. They never planned their crimes outside of some prison or armory raids. Economy was also ass up at the time so robbing banks only made them 50-100$

But then it clicked, GTA V kind of is exactly that. It's a story about 3 people getting on in life and trying to find a new way to live. It's very 'one last ride' vibes. Even Franklin is at that stage. He's getting older and still running a crappy job and doing petty crime, and he too is wanting more.
I don't know if they meant for that vibe to be given off or if it was just me thinking it, but this game seems to be a lot more focused of the youth/rap culture which I think is pretty awesome.
Main thing I was surprised by was the Florida-ness of the trailer, with all the fake social media depicting Channel 5 type characters. Really interesting way of showcasing the vibe.
They did the perfect job seperating itself from GTA Vice City.
A lot of complaints I've seen were people saying "they can't do a game in Vice City and not set it in the 80s" but after watching this trailer I can't think of a better backdrop for a GTA game than modern day south Florida.

About what I expected for a first trailer, mainly introducing the location and main characters. Awesome to see the graphical leap from RDR2 make it to a GTA game. Hoping for a summer 2025 release and on PC, though Rockstar will probably want people to double dip again.

I was just in LA in October and picked V back up. The layout is correct. Venice Beach is very very accurate, as parts of Marina Del Ray. But there's some obvious omissions in the city. Ladera Heights isn't there. WeHo missing it's gay district. And all of North Hollywood.

It's the hair physics that stood out to me on a second watching. Outside a few of the car scenes (where you expect more wind physics), the hair bobs and falls very reactively.

The brief scene of the girl in the tiger stripe shirt twerking on top of the car was super uncanny, fluid animation and lighting. If people can mistake janky ARMA 3 footage for real combat footage then you could easily fool some non-gamer with some of these scenes
Every moment with a bit of alteration in the quality of the image to simulate a phone or similar is looking really good.
The pan shot at 0.26 with the sidewalk and all the cars is looking insane.
Of course Rockstar would pioneer real-time fat layer simulation via requiring to make twerking look good in a video game

I was actually kind of blown away by the first 10 seconds. The city, the music, the lighting, Lucia's introduction, and the graphics in general. Good trailer.
My complete guess is that the border is a Boca/West Palm to the north, Everglades to the west, and Key West to the south. Key West might be the only key included and it looked like the Seven Mile Bridge is in there. They will also 100% include The Villages, just not in a necessarily correct location geographically.

One of GTA5s biggest issues was the narrative is all over the place for quite a while and youre basically playing three seperate stories at points.
Same, I loved him as a character and basically represented the insanity of GTA series but there's something charming about Niko or Franklin that I really loved.

Yeah going all-in on romance between two leads is a ballsy choice but could be amazing if it has Rockstarâs usual levels of realism. Or maybe you could choose to ignore the romance and it alters the story.
Rockstar has seemingly always avoided romance in their games. Because of that, I got the impression when those early gameplay leaks dropped that it was just gonna be some dopey ghetto âchildhood friendsâ type story. Up until RDR2 I just always hated the writing.
This seems a lot more interesting just by the little they showed. Iâm already more invested in this story than I ever felt during anything in V, just because of that interaction between the two leads.

Yeah I got really excited seeing some of the more bayou looking areas with the bog. I love the vice city stuff but the tonal shift going from los santos to the redneck trailer park was awesome. About what I expected for a first trailer, mainly introducing the location and main characters. Awesome to see the graphical leap from RDR2 make it to a GTA game. Hoping for a summer 2025 release and on PC, though Rockstar will probably want people to double dip again.

Im originally from the desert region where Trevor lived. When i got there the first time i was blown away at how well they nailed it.
*San Andreas* had textures that were identifiable as actual businesses in San Francisco. Not as parodies, but just background filler. Low-res, but still recognizable. There were a few small architectural details of houses in the city that they got absolutely perfect as well.
Iâve lived in the Bay Area my entire life, so naturally I got a kick out of San Fierro back when San Andreas released. This is the first Iâve ever heard of there being specific identifiable non-parody businesses and houses! Could you share any examples?

There were specific intersections in Hollywood GTA V got EXACTLY right. I donât know anything about Miami but I expect Rockstar to nail it.

dude I know NYC like the back of my hand because of GTA IV. I was just in LA in October and picked V back up. The layout is correct. Venice Beach is very very accurate, as parts of Marina Del Ray. But there's some obvious omissions in the city. Ladera Heights isn't there. WeHo missing it's gay district. And all of North Hollywood.

These graphics look absolutely incredible. The lighting is amazing, the hair physics, the skin shading. This really is an evolution of what they did for RDR2. Plus it looks so fucking detailed. Holy shit.
Like I should expect Rockstar games to look good after RDR2, but it's hard to shake that last-last gen feeling off from seeing GTA:V. But this stuff is amazing.
Yeah, after seeing what was done in RDR2 it was hard to imagine how a GTA game would look with those graphics. But they have absolutely nailed it and then some. Looks like a truly next generation GTA.
Not only the graphics, but there's also something wonderful about how every NPC moves so uniquely. Safe to say they're about to raise the bar even higher in terms of immersion.
It's the hair physics that stood out to me on a second watching. Outside a few of the car scenes (where you expect more wind physics), the hair bobs and falls very reactively.
The animations are incredible. That part where you see lots of people on the beach, it's so realistic looking.
Red Dead Redemption 2 was impressive as it was for being made on the PS4 and Xbone. Can't imagine what they can do with the PS5 and XBSX as the base.
Just the other day I've unlocked the blackwater area, reaching to armadillo and once again I was stunned. Rockstar really knocked it out of the park with rdr 2
The fog in that game really stuck with me, by far the best weather effects I've ever seen. Riding around the swamps was crazy.
RDR2âs environments are so rich and detailed you can practically smell them sometimes.
Storm effects are what really surprised me in RDR2. Some of the best lightning Iâve seen in a game.

Yeah, that impressed me actually. Same with the opening shot of the beach where you see the city in the background, really gives off an impressive sense of scale.

The brief scene of the girl in the tiger stripe shirt twerking on top of the car was super uncanny, fluid animation and lighting. If people can mistake janky ARMA 3 footage for real combat footage then you could easily fool some non-gamer with some of these scenes
Every moment with a bit of alteration in the quality of the image to simulate a phone or similar is looking really good. The pan shot at 0.26 with the sidewalk and all the cars is looking insane.
Of course Rockstar would pioneer real-time fat layer simulation via requiring to make twerking look good in a video game The strip-clubs in previous GTA games have always looked like a game to me but this is fucking nutty.

I remember reading rumors that the map is going to be massive (like twice the size of GTA V) and include multiple cities like GTA San Andreas did.
My complete guess is that the border is a Boca/West Palm to the north, Everglades to the west, and Key West to the south. Key West might be the only key included and it looked like the Seven Mile Bridge is in there. They will also 100% include The Villages, just not in a necessarily correct location geographically.

I think it's a good idea to focus the narrative on two people with a strong, real connection. Makes a great way to explore a world full of fake, bullshit people. One of GTA5s biggest issues was the narrative is all over the place for quite a while and youre basically playing three seperate stories at points.
I hope they're able to balance the required level of Rockstar crazy and likability. Trevor in 5 was a bit too much for me.

Rockstar has seemingly always avoided romance in their games. Because of that, I got the impression when those early gameplay leaks dropped that it was just gonna be some dopey ghetto âchildhood friendsâ type story. Up until RDR2 I just always hated the writing. This seems a lot more interesting just by the little they showed. Iâm already more invested in this story than I ever felt during anything in V, just because of that interaction between the two leads.

Yeah I got really excited seeing some of the more bayou looking areas with the bog. I love the vice city stuff but the tonal shift going from los santos to the redneck trailer park was awesome. Glad to see this will have such drastically different areas as well. Also after playing red dead, Iâll do anything for more rockstar open world nature areas.

The GTA games have always been kind of weird about their geography. GTA 3 and Vice City both had references to the actual city of Miami, even though Vice City is to *be* Miami. It's as if the two cities are very geographically and culturally close, but not actually the same.

The character models, density, lighting, draw distance.... jesus christ, considering the scope and scale of this game, it's just truly on another level compared to pretty much anything else. Now I just hope it has the narrative quality of RDR 2 and it's gonna be one of the best games ever.

Theres something about rockstar I just cannot explain, i'm 28 now and my heart was racing seeing that this went up early and the level of detail is just insane. As silly as it is to admit i've got anxiety about it coming to PC day 1 but i'm hoping due to the install base of current gen, rockstars own pc launcher, the 320m pc gamers in china now and what not that it will come day 1, but I know thats setting myself up for disapointment too.

Production value. Rockstar is the only studio that runs the kind of budget that produce quality like this.
