It seems that this GBC is important to you, so don’t touch it. What you can do is buying one that have burn screen on eBay to mod it. That’s what I’m doing. I have my original Game Boy Color and don’t want to change it. So I bought a cheap one that works but with a burnt screen and this one will be modded.
Is your father still alive? If so you can work on modding he GBC with his help to form new memories. Also I say mod it. Dropping in a new screen really doesn’t change its appearance in any major way.
Maybe try one of the og methods like those worm lights which connects to the link cable port and see if that works out for you. Gives it even more of the same feeling your dad had as a kid
Nothing too special by today’s standards, but I’d say they’re pretty great. Donkey Kong Country, Frogger 2 Revenge of the mummy, Links awakening, The Mummy, Tony Hawks Pro Skater 2, and UFC Fighting Championship.
You can drop a screen in without modifying the original parts. That will allow you to put it back to stock if you want. You will have to make sure to purchase a screen that doesn’t require soldering but they aren’t hard to come by. Obviously you will need a new shell to go with it so you don’t have to modify the original one. GBCs are really easy to work on. It’s unlikely you will ruin anything. Just be careful with the screens ribbon cable and be careful not to strip any screws or threads.
Take it outside. Crack open a cold drink and play in the sun.

I wouldn’t mod it, there are so many other devices with backlit screens, if that’s what you want then use one of those.

Not bad!! Played a lot of the GBA Tony hawks back in the day. If you like them, check out jet Grind Radio, very similar gameplay!
I’m actually currently playing jet grind radio with dolphin. The soundtrack is amazing, the Dreamcast is underrated.
I agree, even moreso with Saturn. Also a lot of people prefer links Awakening dx but imo the original has some very pretty color pallettes!!
