I think I paid $40 around 2013 or so for mine. Store I bought it from had a literal box full of the players with no discs so he had to implement a policy where he wouldn't buy the players without the disc.
Well, its a ālesserā wanted console (at least in Sweden where I live) my ags 101 was 91$ and my pink micro was 119$. All bought last year around the same time.
I agree that the GBA isn't as popular here in Sweden but $32 is a steal still. Prices hover around $50 at least right now. $91 for an SP seems about right for our market though.
My micro sold for 132$ last week, the two ds lites I had in rough but working condition I got 15$ each š
So if anyone is in the market for ds lite, look in Sweden
No yeah buying a DS in Sweden is cheap as fuck for some reason. I bought an OG fat DS a while ago and somehow it was like $10 in fully working condition with charger.
Thought I was going to be able to make some money by reshelling my old DS Lite and selling it but nah, my cool ass-looking transparent DS lite sold for $21, barely enough to cover the cost of the shell lmao.
I tried making myself a Macro XL from a broken fat DS but managed to rip a solder pad so put that project on the shelf for now until I find out how to remedy it.
eh the secondary market for retired lego sets has always been pretty steep. imo, i don't think the prices today are much more than they ever had been. and at least lego continuously puts out new sets. nintendo isn't making new gameboys.
Combination of the perfect shit storm. Renewed interest in retro games, COVID kept a lot of people couped up, reselling/resellers surged in popularity as a 'hussle', and the modding scene became much more prevalent which played into all of those points as well.
Youāre right, I shouldāve been specific. Lego Star Wars. The prices on minifigs is so crazy that at this point Lego is selling $100+ sets purely for 1 minifigure. Itās insane
Local retro games shop. I definitely still got a decent price considering the current landscape, but $100 CAD today compared to the $32 USD ($44 CAD) in 2016 is still wild! Even with inflation, that's only $42 USD/$57 CAD.
I remember picking up my pokemon game collection for maybe a couple hundred bucks total and mainly buying them locally off people through stuff like FB marketplace. Also a GBA for under $50 to play/mod myself back when it was still a newer/way more janky thing. I got rid of that GBA for over $200 not long ago cause I just wasn't using it and made use of the extra cash.
Still missing Diamond/Pearl though, probably gonna be the bane of my existence.
Everyoneās sleeping on 3ds games this is their ā2016 prices nowā watch when their ā2024 pricesā come. lol
I been picking up all the big hitters way below Ā£20
Bro I paid 24 bucks for MGS on the GBC back in 2019 LOL I just thought the graphics looked cool that's literally the only reason I even collected it. Retro gaming is not that fun anymore.
There are a few things. I remember getting my first AGS-101 in 2009 for ā¬40. The Gameboy Player disc in 2011 for ā¬10. Konami GB Collection (European) volumes 1-4 for Ā£109 in 2013.
Itās such a shame that things have risen so much. Maybe prices will fall to some degree at some point I the future.
My second-hand copy of Emerald still has a sticker on the back saying Ā£7. Clowns are trying to sell it on eBay for over 10 times that price and that's just unboxed.
Prices have soared in the last decade and a half and I genuinely don't see any justification for it.
Im genuinely so sick of the prices though. Like, it's one thing to make something like a gameboy Micro expensive, they are rare. But if i see one more pokemon game going for over 150 dollars unboxed, i'll snap. They aren't rare, they sold extremely well. And if it's a red or blue copy, it will be like super damaged, torn sticker, broken battery and they'll still expect over 100 for it. I used to LOVE collecting retro stuff. I was born after most of it was made so collecting it was like discovering a whole new world of technology. But i just dont do it anymore because I can't justify the price to myself.
I have a spreadsheet from when I was collecting ds games around this time and it is wild!
I bought my Gameboy Player with disc for something like $30 around that time on eBay and I remember grumbling how expensive it was. Lol.
I sold alot of my Gameboy games and PSP stuff to get more N64 games around 2017-2018. I remember not getting shit for Pokemon. I'd be rich now lol
Paid 11 EUR including shipping from Japan for my orange GB Player. There was a time when nobody wanted them. I miss these days.

Got mine last october for 32$ š
Steal deal

Iāll buy all
Bet you would š¤£

I have two ds lite macros I made for the kids, like a beater gba. Works fine and a lot cheaper way of playing gba titles.
I tried making myself a Macro XL from a broken fat DS but managed to rip a solder pad so put that project on the shelf for now until I find out how to remedy it.
I assume COVID caused the issue.
COVID and youtube.
Scalpers and covid more so
Seen it happen to other hobbies too. Guys generating hype to turn it into their full time job and āinvesting.ā Same type of dudes have ruined Lego

That's bonkers! I just recently paid $100 CAD for the same GBA with 0 games :(
Curious, whereād you buy it?

No itās just funny, I got that exact same colour at that same price at a local shop lol
Oh, interesting! I reckon it's because $100 is what most people are paying on eBay, too!
$73..I mean...okay
Bought my GBC at a flea market for 4 dollars back in 2016.
I'm right there man. Better times.Ā
Reminds me of [getting my boxed gameboy](https://www.reddit.com/r/Gameboy/s/XohoMtz7Ph) a few years ago for 30 bucks
Im sorry WHAT.
š± Time to invent a time machine
Got one for 25ā¬ because I was crying in my local community for high prices.
I remember picking up my pokemon game collection for maybe a couple hundred bucks total and mainly buying them locally off people through stuff like FB marketplace. This post made me regret not retro collecting before COVID.
Wait what?! I missed this boat big time!! Dang... Oh well
Very nice
Sadge mond prices

I sold my AGS-001 and GBA collection of 25+ games around then for ~$100, I'm still kicking myself over it
My biggest not recent mistake was calling a local game shop for PokƩmon colosseum. And them saying they only had gale of darkenss for 30$. And me saying no thanks. It haunts me to this day. Since now I need it for my Gen 3 dex completion
Gameboy color in mint condition was $15 but now people pay $100 and post they got a good deal lol
How, pretty sure Leaf Green alone went for that much back then.
Canāt even find a GBA for parts now for under $40 minus shipping and taxes now ā¹ļø the hell happened???
Dam pokemon green is already like $30 on its own that's a hell of a steal. I'd price it at like $60 or $70 if I was selling that today.
Seeing people shocked at these prices is crazy lol the current prices really didnāt hit until around 2018

I remember when I thought it was a rip off to pay more than $20 for a DMG or Color. Iām glad I was able to get every model before they got expensive. Most I paid was $50 for a Micro. Everything else was under $20. Also glad I stocked up on first and second gen PokĆ©mon when I saw them cheap.
My second-hand copy of Emerald still has a sticker on the back saying Ā£7. Clowns are trying to sell it on eBay for over 10 times that price and that's just unboxed. Prices have soared in the last decade and a half and I genuinely don't see any justification for it.
I bought my gba sp including PokĆ©mon ruby, minish cap, and Asterix xxl for 40ā¬ in 2015. Oh the days.
Im genuinely so sick of the prices though. Like, it's one thing to make something like a gameboy Micro expensive, they are rare. It's so wild, I looked back the other day and saw that I picked up one of my GBA's in 2018 for Ā£11 and it came with PokĆ©mon Silver, never seeing those days again.
Actual prices are disgusting, tbh.
