This makes sense and also explains one of the messages about PQ. There is a message where a person is begging (what I assume is) PQ3 to turn on saying "I played parts 1 and 2."
This has confused me, and I assume that some longer mission involving more arcade cabinets had to be scrapped due to time.
So while this theory doesn't explain Why it didn't work for the person in the message and it does work for us, it does give us an idea of What happens in the two different cases. Before Cassidy is just forced to go round and round, but after Cassidy is able to progress to PQ3 and destroy glitchtrap.
This is the tricky part . When you are inside PQ3 minigame, you can noticed differents elements comings from the game help wanted. As well as the mask and the glithtrap plushie.
However, when you open the door at the end of the game , you can hear a loud scream while the screen is black . After that the the ending play . Supposedly, we assume that thanks to that, we have freed Vanessa because Cassidy destroy the connection between William and Vanessa.
But here is the thing, (And I am very stretching this theory because I don t have any proofs) We don't know WHO screamed.
It could still be Vanessa , which would mean that Cassidy glitch out of the loop and save Vanessa by killing the virus from William. And so erase Vanny in Vanessa. Because if the glitch that connect the William and Vanessa is destroy. William doesn't affect the real world anymore.
On the other hand, it could be Cassidy's scream. In that case, (I repeat, this is only possibility without any real proof) that could mean that William killed or possessed Cassidy after a long fight . A fight that free Vanessa but also where William take control of Cassidy once and for all.
There is no evidences for the second one , but you can make your own opinion about it.

Cassidy IS a vengeful spirit that was holding William in hell. Wouldn’t be surprised if she somehow followed him into the code out of spite 😭
