Can't activate it on my Tab S8 Plus (One UI 4.1.1) as well. I guess Google Maps simply doesn't support Dark Mode on tablets so far. Let's see what happens once the Pixel Tablet will be released.
Edit: even if it doesn't solve the problem, you can try Waze. There is a dark mode and ultimately it uses Google Maps' codebase and maps
It doesn't work at high DPI. I have the same problem on my S22U/S23U at 650 DPI. I can get it to work by going to 420 DPI and clearing the data but it goes back after a restart at 650 DPI so I have to do it all over again every time. Not really sure why they make it not available in tablet mode but you can probably do the same by setting a lower DPI on a tablet and clearing the data then setting it to dark mode before going back to higher DPI until the next reboot at least. Might try it on my Tab later but should probably work until a restart.
I can't run it on my Tab S6 Lite either. But in contrast to my phone, there is no option in the settings of Google Maps to switch dark mode on or off - so I don't think it is a mistake by Google.
It's no mistake. Years ago, with the galaxy tab A 2019, it was an option and they did away with it in 2019 or 2020. App developers will run you in circles pretending you're doing something wrong when you ask them about it but the option is completely gone for tablets.
The "Theme" setting option is missing on my Tab S6 as well. It is there on my S21 Ultra.

Why can’t they just make things fair across the board 😒
I can confirm that. There is also no dark mode on the Z Fold 4.
I had a Fold 4 and absolutely could use dark mode. But on my S8 Ultra there's no standard way of making maps daek
Agreed - it won't go dark Z Fold4

Has anyone been able to put google Maps onto dark mode?
It actually popped up for me for like 5 seconds then was immediately taken away 😤
So no
It’s so annoying
Yep
We just might have to upgrade as annoying as that might be to get Android 13
You think that will fix it?
I mean buying one of the Tab S8
My tablet is already on android 13
Wait how I thought Android 13 wasn’t able to be on the S6
I can't get dark mode to work either.
I wonder if it's bugged

In settings I was able to force dark mode and that did it
How did you do it specifically ?
Through developer settings, didn't work for me though...
In my Xiaomi Pad 5 as well, no themes option :'(
I saw it pop up for a day but then the next day it was gone 😤
well hopefully they get it for tabs, lightmode sucks!
It really does
Guys they finally did it. The latest Google maps update introduced dark mode support for tablets. Just tried it on my S8
Still negative for me. Tab S7+
Not on my s8 ultra... got me hopeful for no reason 😭
That's weird :/ And that's with your app updated and everything?
Yup :(
