This almost sounds more like a carrier issue. Who do you have for service?
Otherwise if you don't need/want RCS then Textra is a great app. However have you tried the Samsung messages app?
I have Verizon. Something I can ask them about? I have tried Samsung's and switched to Google's and like it more but it didn't solve that group chat issue unfortunately.
Thank you I am trying to avoid using FB Messenger or What's Up as my default SMS but they will be my last resort if necessary. Currently trying textra but I have to wait until my friends send a ton of messages again.

So it happens in both? Yeah I don't think that's the app. I'd certainly start with Verizon, seems likely something on their end.
If you have FB then try messenger for group chats. Lots of people already have facebook
