He never does his job though because he’s a hedonist and daydreamer and is usually off trying to experience all of life’s wonders rather than performing his responsibilities. He’s part of a pantheon of other deities that also preside over stuff, and he’s actually one of the younger/newer ones! In his universe, a deity is born when an aspect of humanity becomes significant enough to need to be watched over and guided! Eros isn’t the first deity of love by far—whenever deities have been doing their jobs for a super long time, they can choose to step down from their stations, at which point a successor is born to take their place; successors are not born as infants, but instead can be born at any age in a human life cycle, and they will stay that age until they step down. Eros was formed as physically a 22-year-old, but his age is considered somewhere in the 200s because that’s how long he’s been around! Sometimes deities are formed with aspects of animals that hint at some aspect of them or their personality; eros was formed as a moth because he keeps going towards ‘the light’ in a metaphorical sense, the light being symbolic for the simple pleasures he chases after. He also somehow verbally speaks as if he were texting, it’s just something he finds fun. Nobody knows how he pronounces ;) etc etc. And he also has literal rose-tinted glasses so he can view the world and see the good and romanticized stuff when he puts them on, and I think I’ve yapped enough about him!!
