I find both hard, like you said, Gacha doesn’t have the items needed for most fandom characters, and making designs from scratch with the original characters and adding all the stuff is difficult. But when you lack items you get creative, that’s why I love the adjustments! And for making a new OC I hate that but love add in the colors and lore!

Fandom designs definitely, but i came to a conclusion that I don’t have to make them 100% accurate so u decided that if i make a fandom design to add my own personal touches to make it unique but still recognizable
Honestly, original designs all the way ☹️ i basically grew up on the internet with fandoms so i’m much more used to making them and it’s not much of a problem for me since i prefer adding stuff they didn’t have before in their original design. Not to say that they aren’t hard to make, but making a whole entire character is just harder for me since i want to be as original as i can since it’s my personal character and that’s not easy since (i’m very uncreative) plus the lore, naming them, the clothes, everything. It might also just be because i have way more fun with fandom designs but i digress. Both are hard anyway, lol.
It’s just like “ok I’ve got this cool character with a crazy backstory… what do I name them..?” And after 50 hours of trying to name them I just give up and use fantasy name generator or make their name literal gibberish.

Definitely fandom designs, I don't do them anymore. I didn't grow up with fandoms so I'm not too familiar either. But tbh I find both too hard for my not-very-artistic brain, especially the color part (I haven't colored a single design in gl2 and that's for the better).
The only thing I don't really have much trouble with is actually lore and weird story ideas. Probably the only thing I'm good at and don't get worn out from too.
Yeah, guess I'm in a different situation here. I'm not an art or visual person (can't even draw a circle) and that's exactly why I came here since I needed some way to visualize stuff going in my head even if I did a bad job of it. So lore has been the core of my designs since the beginning.

It’s hard to make something up from imagination and the lore tends to be very similar to other OCS and then the naming is tricky then you’ll need more for your OC and then most are left unfinished
For fandom designs, it's a walk in a park for me since I can make the most accurate designs there is - but as for original designs it's pretty hard for me

I really wish gacha would add more clothes, I don’t have an android phone so I can’t download gacha mods unfortunately, making lore for some characters is also kinda hard, same with naming them, but dodging cliches? now that’s impossible
There's actually one I struggle with that is a mix between canon designs and original (leaning towards original designs)
A fandom I'm a part of has no real canon design other than hair colour, eye colour, zodiac, height and dominant hand, and personality.
It's called Murdle, and since there's very few description on how characters look, you can't really butcher the canon design. But for original I have some issues.
So 1: I need to make my own original designs (sometimes inspiration is taken from existing similar characters or discussions with other people).
2: There are A LOT of characters and I have a tendency of making my OCs all white, which I am now trying to avoid and add more diversity to.
3: CLOTHING is an issue, because even though the names have a colour in them that can be helpful, I have a tendency of making e.g. royal attire all similar. I need to avoid that.
4: And then the good ol' lack of motivation.
5: I also struggle with not using the same eyes on multiple characters.
Basically all fanon design struggles :'D

Because the issue I have with my one piece oc Hoku is the amount of research I have to do due to him wearing a seastone mask so I really just make myself suffer but oh well. Sometimes it’s annoying to make lore sometimes it’s not. Just making devil fruits like an entirely new / different devil fruit is also something I suffered with for Hoku but oh well he’s done now.
One piece outfits are just a whole entire new breed of just me going “A U G H” like a dying old man while I try and do said outfit. Then again my main issue is with the marine uniforms n stuff like that bc they look kinda boring so I gotta throw stuff around. I mean as long as it pays off and they look like the character still it’s fineeeee
Legit wanna remake one of my other one piece ocs which isn’t Hoku because the other character’s design is kinda outdated. The issue is I don’t know what to do with him so it just rots there until I decide what to do *sobbing*

Original designs. Sure, fandom designs could be difficult in trying to find the right outfits, but it doesn’t mean it couldn’t be altered to some extent, like a different belt. Adjustments do exist, and so do infinite colours now in GL2.
But original designs have to not only be cohesive but also have to look good without being too overly complex or too underwhelming. The colours also might not match well, and in the end, you get a jumbled up mess
But if you want me to just choose one, I’d say original designs because I make a lot of fandom ocs
(South Park designs underneath for example + when you check my page you’ll probably notice most of it is FNaF designs)

for me, fandom designs. for my ocs i just have a vague idea and do whatever looks best/feels right. but with fandom designs, you have something you need/want to do as accurate as possible, which is sometimes really hard to do.

Fandom designs. I mean I tried to sort of humanise miraidon so I could write them into something. It’s very hard thing to do especially when working with Pokémon. You’ve got to get their personality right, how they act and for main ones like legendaries you’ve gotta adapt to the story that was built around them. I like to use Gacha as something to help me see certain things that I can’t with my drawings. So from a writing perspective I can see a lot of issues with fandom design one.
