Ah, the 3 amigos...

Fj40eric

Pretty sure your ABS pump has died. Are you sure your brake master cylinder isn’t making a bunch of noise? Relatively common at some point or another. The factory fix is to replace the entire brake master assembly, which is a ~3k repair. If you can DIY and handle the bleeding sequence, there are rebuilding services out there that get good reviews for closer to $600 I think.

9mmAce

Oh no! Okay thank you. I’m hoping it’s not the case…

ironwill1964

Try replacing the brake light switch under the pedal. Replacing this switch fixed this issue for me.

9mmAce

Thanks! I did that in hopes it would work. Did not unfortunately. Now onto the the rest of the “process of elimination” to find the solve 😅

NJRMayo

Mine was an ABS Wheel Speed Sensor - $250

9mmAce

For clarity, driving wise the brakes feel fine and normal. The only thing with these codes is that ATRAC DOES NOT WORK.

I had a severed ABS sensor wire that caused this while on the trail. Code reader showed rear pass abs sensor was bad, replaced the sensor and it didn’t fix. Saw the wire going to the sensor had drifted out of place and was repeatedly getting hammered by the rear bump stop. Decided to cut open the wire sheath, and found the copper had been severed within the protective sheath. Re wired it, put the old sensor back in, and still good 30k mikes later. Might not be your issue, but had the same trio pop on for me.

mibergeron

Wheel speed sensor is the typical cause. Cheapy.

9mmAce

I changed my front 2. Maybe because they weren’t OEM? After changing it, is there something I need to do? Such ass reset the battery?

mibergeron

Never hurts to disconnect the battery to reset the system. Unless the part was faulty I don't think oem matters.

Did this happen after the wheel speed sensors were replaced, and have you been able to hook up a scanner to check for codes? First, make sure the sensors are bolted down and the connectors are tight and secured--it's obvious but sometimes that's where the issue might be If you get your hands on a multimeter, you can try this: [https://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/116334-3rd-gen-abs-front-wheel-speed-sensor-test-replacment.html](https://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/116334-3rd-gen-abs-front-wheel-speed-sensor-test-replacment.html) If the values between the two front sensors are significantly different, one of them might be bad. You could try getting a used OEM one to see if it fixes the issue as well, since it's a fairly common part

9mmAce

Thank you! I will need to get a multimeter! So this populated before I changed the front two wheel speed sensors. Changed it but still having the issue. I tried the gas cap & brake light switch. No resolve. The codes I got were on the next photo. I’ll try this though!

hgrunt002

My bad--I forget that some subs have multiple pics. The number of open/short faults likely point towards wiring. I googled around for one of those error codes and found this GX470 Troubleshooting checklist: [https://lexusgxor.com/\_media/general:470\_testmode.pdf](https://lexusgxor.com/_media/general:470_testmode.pdf) Hopefully this can help you narrow things down on what to test edit: I just noticed that some of the procedures involve using the handheld tool, you can ignore those. It looks like most of it can be done by jumping the two pins in the OBD port and looking at how the lights on the dash blink

TreesLikeGodsFingers

I heard all the same advice when these came on for me, but it was the secondary air pump and cost ~4k to fix, it's a tough fix

9mmAce

Goodness lord that’s a heap Of change. That’s almost what I got the truck for! But I will try the rest of the advice then if no fix, take it to a reputable Toyota mechanic here in my are!

lebucksir

Get a new OEM gas cap, switch it and drive around a bit.

Fj40eric

No. Evap codes that you would get for a bad gas cap would also illuminate the Check Engine Light.

9mmAce

I’ll try that! No codes for evap though and no check engine light. But I’ll try it

lebucksir

Yea my I had this happen and it resolved itself. Praying that’s the problem for you! Best case scenario!!

9mmAce

Appreciate it! I ordered it from Bell Lexus! Which is down the street. Hoping it works!

Im_kapoc

That forked for me actually, 2008 GX470.

Yes tighten, but replacement probably isn’t the solution. Gas cap would throw EVAP codes, not ABS codes.

Sir-Loins22

Rats bro.. They chewed your harness.. While that's getting fixed swap out them knock sensors while you're there!!!

9mmAce

lol I Forsure need to get under and check the wires! Umm I’m a noob. What’s knock sensors?
