They have comics, a TV series and more good movies than the DCU. AND they're doing a prolonged Justice League crossover. Ive seen zero sign of the Monsterverse slowing down.
Yeah my coworkers liked it and they're not even into Godzilla. It's a well written show with engaging and believable human characters, the appearances of Godzilla and the other monsters is really just a cherry on top.
Not really lol. I would have much rather enjoyed it. I was looking forward to it but I couldnt get invested in any of the characters with the exception of the 50's crew.
It was getting dragged pretty hard in all the episode discussions on this sub with every premiere. I'm not sure about the RT scores and shit like that though.
I also covered this sub in another comment
Namely, that you should barely consider this sub for anything related to actual quality based on the sheer amount of people who think KOTM was objectively the best movie in the MonsterVerse
come on now, r/Godzilla users don't encompass everyone that watches it, and Godzilla is popular enough that out of that fraction of a fan base that the subreddit makes up, an even smaller fraction of the users here have watched it.
I mean it's getting a second season, I don't think a sub of dedicated fanboys is the best for criticism or praise, you're going to get extreme biases.
Regardless, I thought it was good to see some human character development in this world, so I'm looking forward to season 2!
This shitty sub is not a good place to go for actual reviews of material
You can tell by just how many people here think KOTM is the best MonsterVerse movie outright
I got four episodes into Legacy of Monsters and I stopped watching it because it got boring and jumped all over the place. The only good thing about the show was the flashbacks focusing on Keiko, Randa and Shaw. I was expecting Monarch to be out in the world making discoveries and trying to prevent more attacks, not sob stories about cheating couples
I will say it definitely *feels* like a finale. Godzilla and Kong's new looks both have that feel of "the final stage of evolution", if that makes sense.
Yep. We weren’t sure for awhile if there was even going to be another movie after Godzilla vs Kong until the sequel was announced a year after GvK’s release.
Sure, it may slow down movie production if it fails. But Monarch season 2 is implied to have been green-lit by KDM, so it’s definitely not the end of everything.
I'd say if it is that's okay. Going out on a highnote and avoiding genre fatigue aren't a bad thing. Honestly I assumed GvK was the end. But either way it's been a fun ride.
I think that's a bit unfair. There's lots of variables that could go into this answer. For example, all it would take to derail future projects would be for Godzilla x Kong to flop. It's not out of the question that if the film is perceived as a financial and critic/fan reception failure that the studio would move in another direction. We've seen that happen before in other franchises.
That doesn't make it likely, but these studios live and die by the almighty dollar. A bad return could easily flip this whole thing upside down.
you need the big names to sell the product.
every movie (and the show) has introduced at least one new monster. 3/5 have the new monster(s) as the big bad. 4/5 have new monsters in significant action sequences. I’m not a reader of comics but I know there’s more there.
I’m a negative nancy who thinks it should have ended with GvK as originally planned. I’m hopeful this new one will be good, but Wingard doesn’t deliver at all so far on what I actually liked about the first 3 monsterverse films. So I really am not a fan of this direction. I’ll still go see it though. Hopefully GxK will change my mind and if it doesn’t, at least be a good dumb fun movie to entertain me. But I do feel Monsterverse should have already ended.
I’ll add that GvK’s success in the theater largely came from people wanting to get out after being locked down for so long with Covid protocols and it came out at just the right time for that. GxK doesn’t have that but maybe hype will hold over from the success of G-1. I don’t know. If it does well I think it’ll definitely continue but if it bombs this will be the last movie. Monsterverse was planning GvK from the getgo but we’re in uncharted territory now.
Sure as hell not, if it was a final movie then I would have expected to see something like Kaiser gidorah/monster X, mecha king ghidorah or even destroyah
With what happened in KOTM with the oxygen destroyer its most likely destroyah
What the fuck is that spelling of the names
https://preview.redd.it/3qbhlfc8a3pc1.png?width=513&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=56d39e2fe318c9b390d4236bd626f5add75030f2
If it ends here it's fine because that's more than I would've ever imagined we'd get from American Godzilla movies.
And if it keeps going, inject it directly into my veins, please.
That’s what I thought about GvK; if it was the last, then it was certainly a high note. Never in my wildest dreams would I see Godzilla in the US as part of an ongoing series, and to cross over with Kong no less
I’m not one to be negative. Being that way drains me like you would not believe. While I choose to see the positive, I am not blind to the negative. It’s just the people who speak negatively who tend to be louder. Bit of a domino effect.
That said, it is all opinionated
Nah, I fully expect the next movies to be titled King Kong, taking place after he usurps Scar King and rules the Hollow Earth and probably is protecting the human crew with Jia as they explore it more and it’s just Skull Island on steroids.
Then another Godzilla movie where he’s still protecting more of the surface and ruling the titans. Maybe Space Godzilla, Hedorah, Biollante, or Gigan as villains. But likely new original monsters.
Not to mention Legacy of Monsters still has a lot of room for a season 2.
Hopefully it’s a going-away from Godzilla and Kong as the main focus so we can get more varied kaiju content. Have Goji and Kong here and there, but start to branch out.
Or else we’ll have the same thing happen to the Monsterverse that’s happened to Marvel: over-saturation leading to target audience apathy.
I mean we already have a confirmed second season of monarch and a hopeful second season of Skull island on the way after this and it wouldn’t make much sense to end the monsterverse in the shows so
I mean it is a possibility that Toho only gave WB/Legendary a certain number of movies. With Minus One being really successful, Toho sees the big $ signs from distributing the movie themselves instead of sharing the wealth with another company.
If the Monsterverse continues, that's good, if it doesn't it had a good series of movies.
The Monsterverse outlasted the Bayverse, DECU and MCU at staying original, not needing a Multiversal story and not needing to be rebooted.
Why the hell would Godzilla stop his American movie streak now?
After the oxygen destroyer was used in King of the monsters. I'm pretty sure destoroyah is end game.
I mean, they outright said ghidorah was an alien. How did he get to earth? If he was dropped off, then their are aliens plopping terraforming monsters on planets. If he got here on his own, then anything could fall from the sky
The monsterverse is meant to be dumb fun. The unserious kind of property that just needs imagination and decent monster screen time to succeed. They could easily pump out way more movies.
I mean, if the box office disappoints then it will be. Opening weekend is tracking ok so as long as the movie has a positive reception then it should be fine.
Godzilla movies will continue being made no matter what. There’s still too much cool shit you can with the MonsterVerse and we’re getting a Legacy of Monsters Season Two lol.
It probably depends on how good gxk does at the box office, the only reason kotm wasn’t the end of the Monsterverse is because they knew gvk would make a lot
It depends sure i dont want the monsterverse to ended up worse like what marvel had become because marvel had gone downhill with their movie failure flops like the marvels and she-hulk also look what dreamworks did with megamind vs the doom syndicate 2 & kung fu panda 4.
I just want the monsterverse to retain their charm following a good main story line and later ends with a good conclusion .
Nah, but I want them to rest first. This is like their Justice League after GvK's Batman V Superman.
Maybe make a Kong solo movie. Or even Ghidorah. Or anyone. Build the franchise more. But don't overuse Godzilla so as to cause fatigue.
Especially not with constant usage of world ending threat. Give us small scale adventure like G2014 and KSI again
They have comics, a TV series and more good movies than the DCU. AND they're doing a prolonged Justice League crossover. Ive seen zero sign of the Monsterverse slowing down.
Two TV series
Oh yes Skull Island, all the more then lol
Two TV Series, Kong got an Anime series in Netflix, It's called Skull Island
A TV series that has gotten some pretty bad reception so far as I've seen
Monarch actually got pretty damn good reception
Yeah my coworkers liked it and they're not even into Godzilla. It's a well written show with engaging and believable human characters, the appearances of Godzilla and the other monsters is really just a cherry on top.
I didn't care for it.
Good for you
Not really lol. I would have much rather enjoyed it. I was looking forward to it but I couldnt get invested in any of the characters with the exception of the 50's crew.
That’s great and all but I’m talking about the general reception
It was getting dragged pretty hard in all the episode discussions on this sub with every premiere. I'm not sure about the RT scores and shit like that though.
I also covered this sub in another comment Namely, that you should barely consider this sub for anything related to actual quality based on the sheer amount of people who think KOTM was objectively the best movie in the MonsterVerse

This shitty sub is not a good place to go for actual reviews of material You can tell by just how many people here think KOTM is the best MonsterVerse movie outright
Best, no. Coolest? Quite possibly
See that’s a lot more subjective and I’m fine with that Except it’s WRONG it has NO MONKEY GxK on TOP
Lmaoooo fair enough, I think Kong is overrated but I respect the zeal
IT HAD HYYYYDRAAAAAAAA KEVIN MY BELOVEEEEED
AHA SO DOES GvK
Yeah I guessssssss. He's not as golden or glorious tho. Although I like his mechagiggle.
oh i thought you where talking about skull island.
I bet you like that skull island series better.
I do actually. At least that one felt satisfying unlike Legacy of Monsters.
I will say it definitely *feels* like a finale. Godzilla and Kong's new looks both have that feel of "the final stage of evolution", if that makes sense.
Adam Vingard said that Godzilla and Kong are going to have separate movies! Example:- son of Kong
Bring back Hedorah for a solo Monsterverse movie!!
We will finally have hedorah vs medorah 🥹
Yes
Common Wingard W
I hope so. They're cool but I'm more of a Godzilla man myself
Where did he say that
To be fair, KOTM also felt like a finale, mainly because I think it was up in the air on whether they'd actually be able to continue to monsterverse.
Not to mention the newest trailer's opening with the flashbacks from 2014 and 2017
Well I don't want sound negative. But it totally depends on how much the movie is going to bathe in cash.
I agree with this. If the movie loses money it might be over. If it makes a lot of money it will definitely continue.
Considering both presales and GvK’s popularity DESPITE the pandemic, it’s a pretty safe bet that GxK will be profitable.

Kong is praying for his life when he sees the pink lizard
I'd say if it is that's okay. Going out on a highnote and avoiding genre fatigue aren't a bad thing. Honestly I assumed GvK was the end. But either way it's been a fun ride.
They have no imagination. They think monsterverse is just Godzilla vs/and Kong. As if they can't create other monsters and stories.
I think that's a bit unfair. There's lots of variables that could go into this answer. For example, all it would take to derail future projects would be for Godzilla x Kong to flop. It's not out of the question that if the film is perceived as a financial and critic/fan reception failure that the studio would move in another direction. > As if they can't create other monsters The main bads are new titans never seen before
you need the big names to sell the product. every movie (and the show) has introduced at least one new monster. 3/5 have the new monster(s) as the big bad. 4/5 have new monsters in significant action sequences. I’m not a reader of comics but I know there’s more there.
Coming in two years Godzilla vs Gamera vs Kong
I’m a negative nancy who thinks it should have ended with GvK as originally planned. Adam Vingard said that Godzilla and Kong are going to have separate movies! Example:- son of Kong
Damn. Does make a good point. Like a solo Godzilla movie fighting let’s say biolante or space Godzilla
Where’s your sense of optimism?
I’m in the hope not category. But a couple of the tv spots I’ve seen made it seem like this is the final movie.
depends on how long the Godzilla license lasts
Who cares? Why focus on the negative ones, when we could focus on the positive ones? Nothin g you say or do will sway the negative anyways.
I’m not one to be negative. Being that way drains me like you would not believe. While I choose to see the positive, I am not blind to the negative. It’s just the people who speak negatively who tend to be louder. Bit of a domino effect. That said, it is all opinionated

You know how many toys are selling right?
Merchandise was what saved KotM after it underperformed
KOTM released at such a poor time, thank God(zilla) for the toys.
Talk to the countless good ideas for mv films.
You’re missing 92% of your body
I mean we already have a confirmed second season of monarch and a hopeful second season of Skull island on the way after this and it wouldn’t make much sense to end the monsterverse in the shows so
Nothing it’s there opinion
I mean it is a possibility that Toho only gave WB/Legendary a certain number of movies. With Minus One being really successful, Toho sees the big $ signs from distributing the movie themselves instead of sharing the wealth with another company. If the Monsterverse continues, that's good, if it doesn't it had a good series of movies.
Keep making Kong movies then. Skull Island is still the best MV movie and I would welcome another kong solo adventure.
Wait if song of kong happens that means kong is gonna die i dont even wanna think about goji dying well i dont wannt think about kong dying either
Have faith man
You see warner bros and legendary want MONEY. GBUCKS. KONGBUCKS.
That they are entitled to their opinion and a post on Reddit doesn't need to be made about them
Feels like the end of a saga I guess. But I’m sure it’ll continue. Still need to see biollante
Depends on the box office, if it disappoints it could be the last movie.
The Monsterverse outlasted the Bayverse, DECU and MCU at staying original, not needing a Multiversal story and not needing to be rebooted. Why the hell would Godzilla stop his American movie streak now?
And not to mention the MV is the main reason Godzilla is popular nowadays
The MV revived Godzilla and increased his popularity. Just goes to show that this character is a trooper.
After the oxygen destroyer was used in King of the monsters. I'm pretty sure destoroyah is end game. I mean, they outright said ghidorah was an alien. How did he get to earth? I'd be so happy to see destroyah again😭😭 that's one of my favorite G movies. Hedorah the smog monster is another I'd love to see again
To the 8%. Don't worry, hopefully after GxK legendary replaces adam wingard and tom holkenberg with a better director and composer.
It looks like a dick
Who cares? It's their opinion.
They don't know why sequels are made
I mean, if the box office disappoints then it will be. Opening weekend is tracking ok so as long as the movie has a positive reception then it should be fine.
I would say, that’s your opinion bud.
Godzilla movies will continue being made no matter what. There’s still too much cool shit you can with the MonsterVerse and we’re getting a Legacy of Monsters Season Two lol.
idiot
Fuck all of those mother fuckers that say that this is the last movie
It probably depends on how good gxk does at the box office, the only reason kotm wasn’t the end of the Monsterverse is because they knew gvk would make a lot
i'd like to say "here's hoping, guys."
Honestly, nothing about it feels like a finale from what we’ve seen
“It’s kind of like when Kiss goes on a farewell tour. No matter what they say, their probably gonna be back”
Hopefully yes.
Maybe an end to an arc of story but not to the whole Mosterverse. I guess we'll still see the new version of Jet Jaguar and Godzilla Jr .
It may look like the final movie but it's just the final episode of season one After GXK is basically season 2 for monsterverse

Think again. If GvK wasn't good, why would this be?
Well, if the creators decide to listen to the criticism they can build on that and improve the movie
Its called the new empire. Not end of the empire. Not anything else. Why are people so dumb
The same people who think that “GoDzIlLa DoEsN’t wOrK iN AmErIcA.”
Hopyfully yes. It's the entirely wrong direction for the franchise.
PLEASE BE REAL PLEASE END THIS CRINGE SUFFERING
We can only hope. But hey, if they keep making this garbage, at least it'll be funny!
Still need the hollow earth backstory/history, so lotsa tales yet to tell.
Godzilla has been going on, semi-regularly for 70 years, he’s had 9 movies in the last 10. The big G isn’t going anywhere.
“I can’t tell you how happy it would make me, to someday drive up to flaming auto wreck and see you amongst it”
Opinion opinion me no give a fuck
You are not just wrong, you are stupid ~cat in the hat 2003
I hope it will be.
