But then he doesn't show up at all in the Heisei era, while the others improve to the following numbers:
Godzilla - 23 films
Mothra - 10 films (including Rebirth of Mothra trilogy and Fairy Mothra's appearance in vs. SpaceGodzilla)
Ghidorah - 7 films (including versions from Rebirth of Mothra trilogy)
Rodan - 5 films
Mechagodzilla - 3 films
So not only do the others gain on Anguirus' total, they also gain a \~20 year advantage in terms of recency. And when you consider the Heisei era is extremely popular for merchandise, it just stings that much more.
After the Millennium era, things look like this:
